First off, MAJOR kudos to MDJ. I was a Darkstone ROM user for a while, and in the wake of his departure, I tried a few other Android builds. MDJ's is FAR AND ABOVE the best I found -- no crashes, extremely infrequent data hangs, and so far, all of the app updates from the Market have continued to function.
(FYI, using Mdeejay_FroYo_Sense_v._2.4_Clean_S6.1.)
The only "issue" I have -- which was an issue with other ROMs as well -- is that, because there's no "English - USA" option for the languages, I choose "English - UK". As a result (or at least I presume it's a related outcome), the app servers default to their UK host addresses. For example, Amazon MP3 goes to "Amazon MP3 (UK) for searches, etc.
Since I'm a "yank," it sure would be more efficient if I could make these apps hit the US-based servers. Is there a way to make that happen? Where do I edit??
Thanks in advance...
BUMP
Can I get a BUMP?
I keep having my browsers stop, they wont finish loading and then when I touch on the address search bar or refresh button on the screen I get the force close message. I'm having problems with the stock browser and also the dolphin hd browser too. It happens after about 10 minutes and I can't find any correlation with certain sites, it's just after a little time no matter what I'm looking at. I did a search and only came across someone saying they were having a problem but it was a xoom and they were also rooted. My transformer is all stock and only about a week old. Does anyone have any suggestions or anything? Besides that I love this thing. Thanks for the help.
some sites are inaccessible without crashing to the desktop. Web browsing is one of the major use cases for the transformer. It will be nice if this geta fixed.
Are you serious? I researched tide tablet for weeks before i decided on it. I knew about the cameras and taking videos not being good, I knee there was a chance for light bleed, and also that there were some problems with hd video playback sometimes. I hadn't read anything however on browsing problems. I tried Firefox and opera along with dolphin and they all stop and crash. I don't understand why someone didn't mention this in their reviews with it being a problem. I've had no problems with light bleed, video playback and the camera is fine for me, but the browsing problem would have dissuaded me from purchasing if I would have known. Is there no fixes at all?
The problem is java script, try to disable java

On Monday I'll have my Transformer for 2 weeks. I just started having browser crashes yesterday only after a couple of minutes of browsing. This has happened on yahoo & xda. At the time I was trying to copy & paste. What I don't understand is I wasn't having problems before.
Also, I am unable to do a search on XDA. The search & keyboard come up monetarily then close.

Yes, stock & not rooted
I never get force closing pop ups but everynow and then the browser just closes... but then it depends on the website
I;m running overclocked prime
Mine is just stock, I haven't rooted mine either. I can usually browse for 10 minutes or so before mine stops then force closes. It seems strange that it just started after 2 weeks for the one person. If the problem is Java and I turn it off won't that limit some of the sites? I hate to be limited on browsing, otherwise you might as well get a dang ipad. I hope we find a fix for this it's driving me crazy.
Stock, 3.1 not rooted. The crashing is site specific. It happens with Dolphin as well. Xscope will handle the site, but it has other usability issues (like no zoom) . Do other tablets (zoom, tab 10.1,etc) have these issues? I love paying to be a beta tester.
Same problem here, browser crashes on certain webpages without a warning, switching java off solves the problem but this shouldn't be a solution
Turning off Java Script does indeed help a lot it seems - faster loading and far less crashes. As a web technology noob what do I lose w/o Java script? I browse mostly news/science/tech blogs and forums. Not to many interactive (save Facebook of course).
Any good tips on what losing JV scrips limits?
Thanks!
This has been discussed before Its a known issues (at least to us that have them) and its pretty annoying to say the least. Turning off javascript helps in two different ways (stops crashes and speeds up browsing), but some pages wont display correctly without it.
i resolved crashes with "adfree"
I've never seen my browser as prone to crash or sluggish on the transformer. The only thing I configured is to start plugins on click only (like poor man flashblock - but I prefer it this way on my desktop Chrome too). Running stock 3.1.
i wwill try the adfree and I will post my results.
I've had my Transformer for about three weeks and besides slowing down quite a bit the stock browser and Dolphin have been crashing regularly as of last week. I'm running stock 3.1 - not rooted or anything. It's gotten bad enough that I've basically stopped using it and am using my Acer W500 and iPad. I can put up with some problems in a new unit but if I had known that Honeycomb was as buggy as it seems to be so far I probably would not have purchased this.
i got mine last week, the default browser performance is unacceptable. It just crashes without any warning. Clicking comboboxes , checkboxes and even links in some cases is far too difficult to get right with one go, there are instances where you simply cant do it at all , even after zooming all the way in. Turning off JavaScript is not an option for me, there are simply too many sites using JavaScript for their manus n stuff. Now using dolphin browser, seemsmuch better, but still unreble.I am a huge android supporter, i have a galaxy s and i love it. But recently i compared this against an ipad 2, i hate to say this but with current firmware (3.1 stock, not rooted) this tablet is far inferior to the ipad when it comes to web browsing. I hate apple products, but at this point id rather have an ipad, over this

Browser Cache
I cleared my browser cache and this seemed to fix it. can someone test and post results?
Anyone else having the odd crash out of the browser (Also tried Dolphin Pad beta with similar results) or even the odd reboot when trying to run a Flash webpage? I rarely get a forced close just a straight crash out of the browser to the desktop or worse, a reboot. I had this with Prime but am also getting it with the new Revolver ROM. I am beginning to suspect it's endemic to Android or the TF (Or both).
Noticed it most when trying to use Flickr in Lightbox mode (User Agent set to Tablet/Android).
Nobody? I just want to know if it's just me or not.

I think there must be some deep lying cause for the browser crash other than Flash. people have complained of crashing in the browser a lot. It's weird how it does it sometimes in the new Dolphin Tab beta browser too. What's interesting is that in Opera if you enable Flash and use Flickr Lightbox you just get a black background and no photos will display. In the stock browser and Dolphin Tab it works but causes crashes. Scratching my head over this one. I cannot believe how bugged browsing is in Android. I feel like we are beta testing every release. ICS has a lot to live up to if we ever get it on the TF.
Yesterday I updated to Mango on my HTC HD7 and already had a huge dissapointment...
First of all I live in Israel and surf in few Hebrew sites. The new IE does not support any of them!!!
Even not Google.co.il.
The screen just splits in half or the IE goes crazy (I will post a video that demonstrates it later). You can't even zoom in or out. It wasn't like that in NoDo version.
The second problem is that the hebrew keyboard I installed previously is not freezes in Marketplace and some other aplications, and i can't write anything.
If anyone knows about this faults (especially the first one), and how can I fix them, please let me know.
Just check it yourself by entering some hebrew site like, kama.co.il and see for yourself IE go crazy...
Thank you.
anyone?
can anyone help me?
No problems here pal. I tried both sites in samsung focus and they are working ok. I can zoom, I suggest a clean update from scratch or a hard reset.
Yeah it looks funky on my DVP
both sites act funny. google doesnt load and chops half the page; kama bounces around until it's done loading. I wonder the language/script has anything to do with it?
I'm using Spanish in some languague settings, here is a proof.
Thanks but its really a mess on my HTC HD7..
The ICS+ browser on my TF700 has started acting up lately. It was running fairly stable since I got the tab in May but all of a sudden it just closes down on almost every site as soon as the site loads. I am seeing the exact same thing with Boat browser and stock, but so far Opera seems to be working (although no videos will play for me in opera).
I am running Browser2Ram and have add-ins on demand. I have cleared cache, forced stop and cleared cache, and re-installled. I've also re-installed Browser2Ram. Nothing seems to impact the browser crashing once a page loads.
I would like to avoid a factory reset - any ideas?
Started having this problem with stock browser recently

I'm having this too, not with every site but for example Huffington Post does it every time. It happens when the page is almost loaded or right after it completes, then suddenly the stock browser FCs and I'm back at desktop. No reboots or other apparent instability, just this one issue, and a manual reboot doesn't solve it.
Just got my TF700T yesterday from Amazon, a 'C8' that came with latest ICS firmware 9.4.5.26. I don't think this happened at first though, then there was a firmware update for the dock (using my former Prime dock) and I also rooted (but didn't unlock), so coincidentally or not it was after those things that this seemed to start. Just tried a factory reset and this time didn't setup anything extra (no Playstore updates, no Flash, nothing but setup wifi) and am still having same issue so that didn't help.
Are you other folks also rooted, or is there someone else with this issue who isn't rooted, to possibly rule out rooting as being related? I don't see other posts about this, and you both say this just started after having your tablets for a while, so did you recently root or receive this supposed firmware update for the dock?
My galaxy s2 is doing the same. And my touchpad. All of a sudden out of no where. Very weird.

So a factory reset did not help? This is not good news, but saves me the hassle of restoring everything.
I am rooted, but have been since the 1st day. I do not have a dock, so we can rule that out.
From what I remember in the past, when this type of thing happens across websites and across different ROMs, it is due to something in a banner or poster ad that is crashing the app. Just something they'll need to fix.
Not positive though.

Forgot to mention I'm running ad-free as well so not likely due to an ad since those are all blocked.

I only had it one day and hadn't set it up completely, so didn't mind and glad to save others the trouble. And thanks to your feedback it doesn't look like rooting or a dock issue.
Never had this on my Prime, and tried it today before sending it back to Amazon for a refund, but none of the same sites that make the stock browser crash on the 700 did so on it. Chrome is okay though, so for me it's just the stock browser, though I haven't tried any others yet.
Also noticed today the Maps app does this too, takes a couple minutes but suddenly *poof* and it's gone. Regarding ads, had no blocker installed at first when testing after the factory reset, then setup AdAway since and the problem occurred in both cases. Also Maps has no ads so I doubt it's directly because of them.
Mine has started this also. I am rooted but unlocked. I run adfree.
Same problem here. I'm noticing it with cbssports.Com. It's happening with dolphin browser both stable release and their beta. Happens on my tf700 and HTC evo 4G lte, both rooted, ad block.
Sure sounds like ad block is the common thing here! I do not use ad block and haven't had any issues...

Same problem here with the stock browser crashing. Over and over and over on major sites like Engadget.
I am not running any type of ad-block nor do I have hardly any apps installed nor running. My TF700T is pretty much stock as all it gets used for is an internet surfer and medial player.

Maybe. Mine closed out of the stock browser like twice today, but the problems been happening much more frequently with my phones browser lately. Both have ad blocking enabled, so that might actually be the culprit.
Any users who don't use ad blockers having this problem?
EDIT: Just saw the post above mine, interesting... Can't definitively blame ad blockers. I wonder what's going on.
I am stock, not rooted, not running the ad blocking thing and experiencing the incessant browser crashing this past week

I dont have a transformer but I am having a similar issues, google browser started crashing about 4 days ago. After either changing the user agent back to android from desktop or disabling java script my browser no longer crashes. I tried a complete factory reset and multiple roms without luck. Firefox also started crashing, after installing add block plus no more crashing so far. I have a suspicion its an add/banner site causing the issue.
Can someone explain how to catch this with logcat since I can easily replicate the problem. Maybe we can see what is crashing in the logs.
I decided to test this a little further - here's what I found... It seems completely dependent on what browser you use. I have the same crash issue with the Stock browser, Chrome and Overskreen, but NOT with Boat Browser. I've also noticed that I don't seem to have the issue with the stock browser as long as I don't tell it to use the desktop version of sites. If I look at a logcat when the issue happens, I see a ton of debug messages about "libchromium"... At first I was thinking that un-installing the latest Chrome update may fix it, but that is not the case (it doesn't fix it).
Is it possible that the last Chrome update updated some OS file and simply un-installing the Chrome update does not actually revert that OS file? Even with Chrome disabled, I still see the problem in the browsers mentioned above...
My suggested work-around, at least for now, is to use Boat browser until the problem gets resolved, which is hopefully soon.
How the hell do we inform Asus of these types of issues?? I wish there was some way to report bugs directly to Asus...
Maybe I'll try actually un-installing the Chrome browser completely (since I'm rooted, I should be able to do that). I'll report my findings. This is a pretty bad issue!

I've found that the easiest way to see what it going on when it happens is to use an app called AirTerm - it's a "floating" terminal emulator. So, I start that up, which is visible in a window even while using the browser, and simply watch what happens in the logcat output while reproducing the issue (which is pretty easy, as you've mentioned)... According to what I see in the logcat output, it sure seems related to Chrome...

Hmm, it seems that simple disabling the "Enable JavaScript" option sees to solve the issue (browsing is a lot faster too, although I'm sure this will cause loss of functionality too).... I was not able to make it crash after disable JavaScript though...

Ok, last update (I promise!)... I was incorrect earlier - the Chrome browser seems to be un-affected by this issue - I'm seeing the issue only in the stock browser and Overskreen and only if JavaScript is enabled (I only tested Stock, Chrome, Overskreen and Boat).
Chrome and Boat don't exhibit the issue at all, even if JavaScript is enabled.
Again, my recommendation would be to just use Boat browser until this issue is resolved. Chrome on the TF700 just sucks (in my opinion) - no flash, slow scrolling, etc. Boat allows for Flash and scrolling is nice and fast.
There may be other browsers that work ok as well, but I only tested with these four.
Hope that helps!

Crashed my browser about 10 times in the past hour. I'm wondering if its a hardware problem since the 300's I used weeks ago never had browser crash issues.
I don't run adfree. But several android sites crashed me, and can confirm huffpost articles crash it after a few minutes of being on the page
Guys, it has nothing to do with adfree, and nothing to do with Asus or even our device specifically. The same websites that will crash the stock browser on our device will crash the stock browser on CM10 on my Galaxy S3. It's a java script error that's causing it, and it's happening across many websites. I'm investigating whether it's a Facebook widget that's found on many websites that's causing the crash. Nothing conclusive yet though. Still experimenting with some logcats after experiencung crashes from different sites.
I completely agree (see the way-too-long post above) - disable Javascript in the stock browser makes the problem go away, so it's definitely javascript-related.
What's strange is that Boat browser (as well as Chrome) can view the same sites without issue, so it actually seems to be a bug in the stock browser (or maybe the stock webkit that a lot of browsers use)...
I'll just use Boat and forget about it! It's a much better browser anyway...
