[Q] Please Help! Where do I start?

I'm very new to this whole root thing. I just got my SCH - I500 like 2 weeks ago.
I have figured out how to root my phone getting SU intact, but I don't know what Im suppose to do from there.
I tried getting CwM to work, but I have failed to figure out how to do it. I spent around 3-5 hours just reading forums trying out new things.
And, do you need a recovery? Cause I seem to have a problem getting it to work. What do you need to do once you've rooted your phone? What are the potential possibilities I can do with a rooted phone? What do you do once your phone is rooted and recovered properly? There's just so much I dont know.
I just need a little guiding as to how to begin. I'm a fast learner, I'm just looking for a little bit of guidance, that's all.

cant say it much easier than that. This is for Mes though and you did not specify.
Thanks! I'll take a look through this.
And yeah I meant for my Mes.
Sooo I tried using the .tar file and then i finally just was like idk wtf im doing anymore I quit...
I went to factory reset my phone and now im stuck at the SAMSUNG loading screen and it was making robot commands through the speaker and now it wont do anything.
how do i just fix my phone back to normal
i learned my lesson and am no longer ever going to try this ****
Robot sounds. Was it a lady voice. dui you have a voodoo kernal on your phone? What have you all done to your phone? Did you try pulling battery and restarting? Some things you do can take up to 20 minutes on reboot.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I started with the base model and then went through step six. I got the .tar file onto my phone and then I didn't know if I had done it correctly so I factory reset my phone.
And yes it was some droid sounding lady. I almost thought it was my computer for a second cause I was sitting at my desktop haha. Kinda freaked me out.
And no I dont even know what voodoo is and I hardly know what a kernel is.. :-/ I really should of done my research before I started doing this stuff.
As long as your reset all is good. It does take some time to learn everything. It helps to read through all pages of posts as well not just first one. Just read read read and read again. : D

Haha yeah I'll remember that for the next time. I did a little reading, but I started getting really impatient with the recovery **** aka CwM or whatever. Thats when I just started trying ****. I had no problem with rooting the phone and I even figured out how to use some AndroidSDK/tools commands or some **** like that lol idk how to explain it. Any place you would recommend me to go just read endless hours about stuff?

The .tar is never meant to be on your phone - it's installed via ODIN (which runs on a PC) And yes it's best to do a lot of reading before even ATTEMPTING any of it - so that you don't get stuck in a situation like you are . If you need one on one help, come join us in the IRC chat.

[Q] Moto Defy Bricked :'(

Hi, I have had my moto defy for a while so I decided to root. I mucked around with root for a month or so and then run a custom rom (LiquidArc Gingerbread). That worked fine, for about 3 reboots.. then it got stuck on the Red M (I left it for 10 mins and it was still stuck).. so I ran RSD Lite v4.9 and flashed the Australia Telstra (my current provider) from: and - developers. com / sbf:defy.
RSD Lite told me it had passed, and then said to restart the phone, I did and now nothing... Black screen, EDIT: White L.E.D sometimes, no bootloader, bricked. It is still recognised in RSD and I have tried the same .sbf three times now but still no success.
I have read through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1066816 but I am not sure where to go from now.
If anyone could help me that would be super!
EDIT: I know cannot even get it detected in RSD Lite.. I have a White L.E.D as soon as I plug the phone into the computer... I have also tried the jump-start method with a spare USB cable I had..
I think I'm bricked too =/
Fastboot and RSD options both freeze/lock up on me.
I am able to get into recovery but my clockwork version 4.0.0.4 which is causing some SD Card detection issues.
Stuck in a bad way right now, can you get into both RSD and Fastboot options?
RSD does not freeze but it cannot detect the phone any more. It used to, and thats when I tried flashing three times, but now, nothing.
imnew,,,,,,
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
I have sent it in for repairs... They are going to phone me the cost of the repairs in a couple of days...
Look into this thread:
Motorola Defy > Defy Android Development > [DEV][ROM] CyanogenMod 7 (Android 2.3.4)
they have much xperience with these things
Sent the phone to Motorola..
I expected to pay for the repairs and would have done so happily, but it came back 10 days later free of charge with a fresh install of 2.2
I won't be messing with custom rom's for a while
wahaha...i'm done with motorola products now...you want to hear my story?
I bought motorola defy last year when it came out. I was very happy and so i continued flashing froyo which was blazing fast over Eclair...but my multitouch started giving me trouble. I sent it to motorola. They returned my phone after 2 months. YES 2 MONTHS !
They had all kind of reasons behind it...but when i got my phone back i was soo happy you can't imagine how i felt when i held it in my hands...but then i wanted to check other 2.2 roms as well if they would fix the multitouch problem but they didn't and one day, the phone started to react strangly, random reboots, not turning on, battery drain and all sort of things even with the stock rom...
I sent motorola my phone back again and i recieved it after a month...when i tried turning it on, it didn't turn on...so i had to send it back again for another month...and in the end i told them to keep their product and refund me...they did refund me but it took them another month to do so...
Motorola has a really poor customer service, i advice you guys to ask for refund and get Galaxy S, it goes for the same price now lolz

Lg tribute 2 (Please help!!!)

Ok so I bought a lg tribute 2 back when they had just came out I believe they had only been on the market for 4 days or something..... anywho I was reading up on rooting phones and I wanted to do it.... but first I used my husbands phone as a test pig which he had a s3 and what do you know I did it right the first time I used odin.....then it was my turn and what do you know I did it! But the problem was even tho I read about 100 different articles about rooting phones not one told me what to do after I rooted my phone.... my husband told me I needed to download a recovery something so I tried all the ones he told me aboutand none of them supported the tribute 2 so long stoyshort I turned the phone off and when I tried to turn it back on its like stuck in a bootloop I dont know how but qfter I turned it off I dont know if it factory reset or not but its taking me thru the whole first timensetup thing but when I get to the wifi part where u sign in it tells me it cant sing in to the same internet im using right now qnd if I hit skip the screen like blinks and its at the same damn spot .... im so done with this phone can anyone help me but plz know i do not know anything qbout anyof this stuff so plz put it in lamest terms....
Oh and please if u r going to be ugly dont even bother commenting thanks
Oh one more thing the phone remebers my wifi password and itsays its connected but I nce I click nextitsays couldn't connect to internet and then a second box comes up and says internet unavailable with buddy ( name that shows up in wireless networks.)
If you're ok with your data being deleted, I'd just do a factory reset yourself so that hopefully it might fix whatever broke, otherwise I'd just restore my working backup.
I believe the tribute 2 is Volume down and power to turn it on and get to the factory reset.

A huge help here guys... soft or hard bricked?

First things first... bear with me because the story is long
A friend of mine was trying to update his Xoom 2 MZ608 to some custom rom from here (I really don't remember which one was).... but it seems he is a very anxious person and tried to flash a MZ602 into this MZ608 tablet... well, unnecessary to say he bricked the tablet...
Few days later, after he struggled at all efforts he could find, he totally gave up and sold this device to me.... I really thought it would be an easy job, as long I'm used to do these things.... but, turns out, it wasn't =D
what is happening?
the tablet got stuck on Motorola logo with Dual-Core written below of it...
- i cannot access RSD, for some weird reason
- when I try to go to Android Bootloader, i got a "battery low, cannot program" message ((even if the tablet spent 2 days plugged))
- for some reason, SOMETIMES i can access using fastboot, but, as long something is completely messed up inside, the tablet can't read the battery values property and turn off way before i can send any command to it....
what you guys advice me to do?? I took this tablet into a Motorola certified shop here and they said me they don't do this kind of job anymore.... all 3 shops said the same thing....
any help?? =)
Cheers =)
Are you selling it? I would be interested in buying at a fair price.
I am the one compiling the Xoom roms again for Wingray. (using Schischu's sources)
