Thanks, just bought your app!

This app looks promising! Thanks

Does the free app support Dual Cores ?
It doesn't show anything like No. of Cores on My Optimus 2X.

According to the market description it says it does support dual core devices.
The paid version definitely supports dual cores as I use it on my LG O2X and nicely shows two graphs for each core.
I just can't activate CPU Frequency on the O2X with CM7 #81 + vorkKernel. It works fine on my N1 with MIUI 1.7.15.

Thank you to everyone for your support! I really appreciate it
The free version supports dual cores but doesn't display any core information as you have said. Only the paid version supports core details, different statusbar notification colors, and CPU frequency (on supported devices). Hope this helps.

Bought the paid version, but is only detecting 1 core on my Droid 3.
Will you be providing support for this phone? (TI OMAP 4430 CPU)
EDIT: nevermind -- it's working as intended when the second core kicks in. Missed that disclaimer before somehow. Thanks for the app!

CPU frequency reporting does not seem to work on OMAP3, or the Nook Color+CM7 at the very least. I was disappointed to find this out, and returned the app.

Nice, It would help to show the % of CPU use in the activity too. (per core, and total)

Thanks for the feedback. I've added your request to my notes and will try to get this implemented in a future release.

I'm sorry to hear this but its something that is out of my control. Some devices just don't allow for reading that data.

Quite similar to SeePU

I bought the paid version, but I have a question:

I have a Sensation, what do you mean exactly here? that the frequency displayed is wrong? Or that it reads the fre for only one of the two cores?
And my most important question : despite what is above, can I trust the app when it shows only one core running or two cores running? I mean, can I trust it to see when the second core starts running?
That's what matters for me, with this asynchrone dual core, the possibility to know when the second core starts running
(and if you tell me "yes", I will be disappointed by the Sensation, your app shows the second core easily starts running, when I was sure it was not and thus explaining the poor benchmarks of the Sensation)

A single core will only run if it is needed, for example when you have two separate programs running. a single app that has not been optimized for using both cores of a dual core cpu will always just use one core just like on a single core phone.
It's the same as on PCs. If there is no optimization to use all cores it will just use one. Dual core doesn't mean that a single process will automatically be split into two separate processes for each core. Your Sensation being slow can have dozen different reasons.

But the OS itself is multi-core aware and it does run multiple processes simultaneously -- are you saying that they'll all run on the same core even when that core is taxed?

No, I was trying to say that a single process won't be split into separate processes for each core if it is not optimized for multi threading. That's what I know.
As you said multiple processes will surely use all the CPU's power, meaning both cores.

Notication ?
WTF is that ?
Notification you mean ?

Not exact: there are two kinds of dual core on Android smartphones:
=> Tegra 2 platform: the 2 cores always run simultaneously, at the same speed.
=>Qualcomm platform: this one is asynchrone and works as you said, only one may work, cores can work at different speed, etc
Android 2.3 is not supposed to handle Qualcomm asynchrone dual core, so that's why I want to know if this app can be trusted concerning the usage of asynchrone dual cores.....

Okay, thanks for clarifying, good to have learned something new

It would be great if you could add a memory meter..So we could see how much memory is left and used by the system
But other than that he app is superb keep up the good work

Thanks!

Would love to try this out on my EeePad Transformer but the market says it's incompatible. Is there any other way to test drive this app?
Also showing incompatible with my Acer Iconia A500. Would love to try the free app and possibly buy the paid if I like how it works. I've been looking for a good app for this!
Few questions guys.
1) Are you running a rooted/custom rom?
2) What is your location. I want to make sure I have it updated correctly in Market
3) Within your settings -> Applications panel. Do you have Unknown Sources checked? or within the Development section. Do you have USB debugging checked? If you don't you might want to try to check them. Try to download and install the app. Then set the values back to their orignal value.
Thanks!

You can set the CPU cores as dynamic hotplug mode, single core mode or fully dual core mode.
This provides easy and simple way to use.
[ Features ]
*Set on boot
Change mode what you selected automatically on boot time.
Menu > Settings
[ Modes ]
*Dynamic Hotplug Mode
Default. Recently, mobile multicore CPUs turn off extra core(s) to save battery life when system is not busy and only use 1 core.
They turn on extra core(s) when system is busy. so system use all cores again.
*Single Core Mode
Use 1 core always. A extra core is shut down. It makes battery life longer but performance is decreased. [ Battery saving, Idle mode, Phone not in use ]
*Dual Core Mode
Use 2 cores always. Performance is increased but battery life is shorter than others. [Example : Zip or Rar Extraction, Photo Editing App Fast Load ]

So, i have seen this application and i have a question...What's the meaning of this??I mean...The only reason i can find it usefull is the one core mode that it can battery. But why someone to enable 2 cores all the time??The cores is auto enable when something ''heavy'' running in our device. Why to enable it when otherwise?
If i am wrong please light me up...

Benchmark testing, mostly, though it also adds a little "pop" to application launching and UI performance in some situations.

And theoretically 2 cores are more efficient than 1 due to both running at a lower clocked speed than it would with 1 core.

At first I was thinking "right whatever mate" - but then I started thinking ... maybe bad idea?
Are there scenarios where this might be true? I'm not sure of by what order of magnitude power consumption goes up by when increasing clocks but I seem to recall my WinMo phone Xscales had an expoential increase - specifically doubling the speed of the processor quadrupled the power consumption. This could be complete garbage btw, it was a long time ago and everything, and have no bearing at all on ARM processors.

The poster of that comment is simultaneous right and wrong.
If you have a multi-threaded app, it may well run faster and use less power by running two cores at a lower speed. However, for a single threaded app or task, a 2nd core is *never* going to be used, so it would just run slower.
The 2nd Core app is quite clear that running 2 cores all the time is going to hose your battery. However, if you are multitasking many apps, running just 1 core all the time will likely mean that that core has to run at a higher clockspeed all the time in order to cope with demand, and could also hose the battery.

Dave

Made by the developer of Return To Castle Wolfestien and QIII4A (Quake 3 port). I have attached a few version's below as not on market yet and hard to download from where it is hosted for free (4PDA), if need any info or bits to make it work please visit this original thread (Link below). Thanks!!
ORIGINAL DOOM3 RUSSIAN FORUM THREAD
Frequent radio transmissions through the player's communications device also add to the atmosphere, by broadcasting certain sounds and messages from non-player characters meant to unsettle the player. Early in the game, during and directly after the event that plunges the base into chaos, the player often hears the sounds of fighting, screaming and dying through their radio transmitter. The ambient sound is extended to the base itself through such things as hissing pipes, footsteps, and occasional jarringly loud noises from machinery or other sources. Often ambient sounds can be heard that resemble deep breathing, unexplained voices and demonic taunting from the game's antagonists.

Demo on a Note2 -
Instructions (Old version please see top of page for Google Store version)
Install
Download version and unzip
Install Apk
Create a folder on your SD cards (diii4a) with a folder named (base) inside that.
Move your Doom 3 pak files (and any other files in your PC's base folder) inside (diii4a>base)
Move folder (gl2progs) contained in this zip to (diii4a>base)
Start the game and have fun!!
NOTE - If RC1 or RC2 don't work for you try the AIC build as that mite. You will also need the PC Doom3 game files to be updated to the newest version 1.3.1 Effect SettingsIn the command line entry on application main page, add these lines on to (game.arm) for less/more lighting effects!! (SCREENSHOTS OFF/ON CLICK HERE)
Full Light Effects = game.arm+set r_nolight 0
No Light Effects = game.arm+set r_nolight 1
NOTE - Having this set on full will impact FPS and you will need a powerfull device for it to work ok on.

I want to try this but I don't have all of the PAK files. I'll see if I can run the Shareware version.
EDIT: I guess I need all of the PAK files, I only have demo00.pak as I don't own the PC Version. Maybe I did something wrong too though since it crashes right after opening, maybe others can help.
I have the game tucked away somewhere (never could get it to run worth a damn on any newer Windows OS) but will it actually run at a decent speed on our Plays?

Wow that is cool! How does it run?
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
Yeah... How much FPS you are actualy getting from that thing ?
I would do fine with steady 20fps :I
But this is so cool, I remember how amazing it felt to know that in 2007 a Nokia N95 could run Quake 3"@ 20-30 fps! And my pitty N81 could still run QUAKE and Quake 2 regardless the lack of 3D accelration.
Now we are getting DOOM3 for android phones. Hooefully they can port other games running IDtech 4 in the future too (quake 4, Quake wars)
I mean, the Quake 3 port (id3) never ran that well on the Play and the id4 engine is quite a large improvement. I wouldn't imagine it gets more than a solid 10fps but I'd love to hear otherwise!

But as far as I know, Kwaak3/Zeus Arena doesnt have 3D accelration (doesnt take advantage of the GPU). If this DOOM 3 port does, we can expect better performance/GFX ratio.

You may be right since I'm not 100% sure but if I recall correctly Kawaak3 was ported to Windows Mobile and saw much better performance on the Omnia devices since they were the first to my recollection to use dedicated GPU's capable of OpenGL. I believe that would mean Kawaak3 is 3d accelerated but since my memory that far back is a bit fuzzy and I can't find any reliable information online I'd love to hear some second opinions since this could make all the difference in the world if you are right.

Well, to be more precise. GPU is being used but only in a way Q3 originaly utilized GPU's.
meaning that like many old PC games, unmodified IDtech 3 and Quake 3 are very CPU heavy.
Newer IDtech 3 enhanchments put alot of workload to GPU to reduce any bottlenecks. Asuming that Kwaak3/Zeus arena is just a direct HW port it shouldnt have any GPU stressing features.
IDtech4 already has these features there by default so basic porting and optimization should involve full support for GPU
To give some kind of insight to the difference between stock IDtech3 and modified version that uses GPU heavily: 200%-600% performance increase on PC's (2007 and up) is guarantide !
On Xplay I would expect atleast 50%-100% increase if one would enhance that Q3 port.
Im not an expert by any means, just sayan what I have heard and seen.
Sorry for the off- topic noob question but gives gpu- rendering better game performance?

Ofcourse, GPU's are being used for GFX rendering so heavily because they are more efficient in it than CPU's. This bases on their difference in structure and dedication.
-------------------------
Spoiler
CPU is one unit with one or multiple high clockspeed processors. GPU however has one "core" that is relativly slow (clockspeed wise) but it has also alot of "minions" which can share the workload better. Their structure is more appropriate for fast rendering since thats what they were desinged to do.
GPU core can concentrate to GFX rendering with its other essential workers which can do multiple rendering things at once while CPU can throw orders and make sure the game is running properly and everythings behaving like they should.
There is various other stuff in PC world that can ease these tasks, like tessalation unit. If GPU has tessalation unit it basicly enables developer to use low-poly models and then tessalate them to look maybe even better than hand crafted high-poly models. Since tess unit is only being used for tessalation (and displacement mapping I think ?) you should experience performance BOOST since now GPU has to deal with lower poly models while tess unit makes sure those models look better
Xperia Play has only CPU and GPU, nothing super fancy. Only thing I think is noteworthy about Xplay's hardware is the dedicated videomemory. This allows developers to leave more room in RAM department and put most of the models and textures into this dedicated memory.
And anybody who knows this stuff better is free to correct.
--------------------
I made a small test to try if kwaak3/zeus arena is CPU or GPU heavy, it was pretty simple.
I launched Zeus arena and a mod called "Hunt" where you fight againts multiple AI enemys. Their AI is enchanced compared to stock Quake 3.
I was having 40-60 FPS during start up and when going againts ONE enemy my FPS dipped to 4-22, After 3 more enemies appeared and I was shooting them with a chaingun my FPS literaly went to diashow and caused the game to crash
AI calculations are being made by CPU and the FPS drop was so extreme that I doubt GPU had anything going on for the game.
Lets just wait and see, I bet you that DOOM3 port will run decently, after all, integrating multithreading (dual, tripple and quad core) support into any Quake engine is really time consuming and not really worth it so developer has to concentrate into other ways to increase performance
Okay, I will shut up now
Blahhh, I guess I'm going to have to test it when I get a day off. Its a bit of a pain in the ass since I have to clear a good amount of my full SD space but its a pain in the ass in the name of science!
not sure if anybody else has this problem, but http://dante.mobi/ is nolonger reachable for me.

I am in the process of exploring the device and getting used to it. It is full of bugs at this point and doesn't run as smooth as I'd like. It's still a great deal for $200. It took about 2 weeks to arrive. You can get one online by just googling onda v989. I doubt I am allowed to place a link, feel free to look it up. You can request it in English. Unfortunately, you need to update the firmware as soon as you get it and the firmware is in Chinese. It took a little experimentation to figure out how to change it to English, but once I figured it out, I was off to the races.
Some problems I have had: The battery runs down pretty quick. I believe they are still tuning the driver set for the Bit/Little processor. There's just something off about the battery. It is falsely reporting the top consumer as "Cell Standby" which I found out is just a bug in the code and its not actually cell standby. I would assume its the screen that is taking up all the juice.
I have also had problems with charging - with some of the firmware I have used it reboots while it is charging every 10 minutes or so. I haven't really had time to figure out the root of this problem, but I have tried a full factory reset to try to get this thing stable. Still no luck.
There always appears to be some Chinese characters on the screen even though I switched to english. I would assume that the Chinese characters are due to Chinese versions of applications installed and I have since replaced those apps with the english version. I have worked around this mostly. I would love there to be an English version of the rom.
Please use this post to discuss this beastly device and hopefully get some excitement around it to develop some English ROMS
I was just looking to see the highest antutu scores are coming in and I am shocked that this is significantly higher than the highest I have found. The top I have seen is around 42k! This thing blows that away. I just ran it again thinking that it was some kind of a fluke and sure enough, 63k again!
hey ,,i made a review video about this tablet, Onda v989, share with you .

Yes, the app does not save it's settings, but is planned for future release (soon, I hope).

seems like it doesnt help much, battery drain is not predictable because of android OS drain.. or maybe its because of zenfone 2 processor does not support core management, sometimes i feel like the phone is overheat when using 2 cores only. but the apps really working, it can shuts off the cores..
Sounds weird, on my Zenfone 5 it works ok (wakes up with power button nicelly).... are you sure it didn't wake up? If you're using 1 core it may have a little delay, like 1 second, before wake up).
The saving option is comming soon (next version almost done).
Thanks for your feedback!

If you look on a CPU app, the zf2 does underclock and disable cores automatically to save power, so core management must be supported somehow.

i never seen disabled core on our device..maybe its because of interactive/ondemand governor..but im hoping that asus unlock the bootloader so that custom kernel with hotplug governor can be developed..and i read somewhere ASUS stated that there is no core management for intel processor on zentalk..

Never tested it, but should work with more than 4 cores, the number of cores is read from the system.
