OK... I've been a bit dissapointed with some internet speed test results so I thought we could look into it a bit deeper.
After installing CM7 RC 1.2 with the MR2.5 radio I noticed my speed test results using 4G suffered greatly. On sthe stock ROM I would regularly get 20+ Mbps results using the speedtest.net application. Now I get between .6 Mbps and 8Mbps. I get the same results with MR2 and MR2.5 radios.
It was suggested that the speedtest.net application didn't work well with CM7 and was innacurate. I checked out a few other internet speed test sites using the browser. Speakeasy regularly gets 20Mbps+ now as well as a few other sites. Speedtest.net still reports an average of 3Mbps to 6Mbps...
To really test things out I downloaded a 831MB file from Microsoft.com in 15 minutes (don't have the seconds). I've calculated the download rate to be 7.387Mbps: Formula for Mbps = File size in MB * 8 / time to download (in seconds)
Immediately following the download I:
Ran a speed test using the speedtest.net app and it reported 6.46Mbps
Ran a speed test at the Speakeasy site and it reported 19.85Mbps.
This data isn't helpful alone since I did not run this with the MR1 radio and non-gingerbread ROM but maybe someone has some time to test this
Here is the file I donwloaded for continuity http://www.microsoft.com/download/en....aspx?id=24559
Hopefully some of you can take the time to download the file I've linked above and let me know what ROM/Radio and download time
I am also on CM7 and can verify what you are saying. On the speedtest.net app I was averaging between 3-6Mbps down and on speakeasy.net/speedtest I was averaging 16-20Mbps down. Something is off there lol.
Just use the website. Problem solved.

The only problem with this is that the large file download from Microsoft revealed just over 7Mbps...
This means the speedtest app is pretty accurate.
With that said; I'd like to see a few folks running MR1 download the file to see if the speed is nearly the same but with speedtest reporting 20Mbps.
maybe the speakeasy speed test is the inaccurate one, opposite of what people are thinking...
I've seen speeds of 3-20+mbps on speedtest app and on the speakeasy website test...
I would imagine many places throttle connections so one user doesn't soak up too much bandwidth. While places that do speedtests don't throttle as that's the whole point of the test.
I have a 10Mbit connection at work but many sites don't give me 10Mbit, however I can download from two sites and max it in the combined rates.

Hi all
Sorry for posting here but I do not have more then 10 posts.
I am rooted. Running Perfect Storm Rom with the 1.9 Kernal.
Before, When I just had the Perfect Storm rom and the stock kernal....I ran a speedtest. I was getting around 20 mps down and around 35-40 up...AWESOME SPEED
after I loaded the 1.9 in my download speed is fine...but my upload speed is ONLY 8 up
Is there something I am missing? What can I check or do to bring back my upload speed.
Thanks in advance
the insane up is a glitch in the speedtest app because the buffer on the tb is bigger then the file it is uploading, in reality it is about 2-6
Al I know..when I was stock with just the Perfect Storm Rom...I was getting uploads of 35-40 now I am getting 5-8....
so not sure what is going on......
Read the reply.
The Thunderbolt has 768 megabytes of Ram. Most phones dont ahve this much and it causes a glitch in teh app you are doing the test from. If youw ant to compare it, turn off the Mobile option in the browser and use speedtest.net the site, not teh app. Your upload should enver be higher than your download. And who teh hell needs 40 megs up on their phone?
Listen...I read the reply...I just went on Speakeasy...the site not the app.....
only getting 1.5 uop....
If I restore Perfect Storm with the stock kernel....I would get 30-40 up....that is all I am saying!!!!!!!!!
and listen
the 30-40 is not the actual speeds that you were getting, your dl speed should be 5-10x higher than your upload
when you were getting 30-40 you were either using the app or the mobile website. and now either you are using the full website or somehow the rom fixed the issue
YOU HAVE NEVER HAD OVER 10MBS UP EVER
Running TPC for about 1.5 months now. hsupa is enabled. getting ~1.4mbps upload, but like 300kbps download, no matter what server I select, and at various parts of the city. Used to never be that slow. Any ideas?

Same here. Mine is around 700 upload and no more than 600 on the best server.
EDIT - Moved about 2 miles and now the down speed is 3200 and up is 1300.

On my speed test app.. I get like 500kb down and 1000up
But my browsing speed is still very zippy..
Before I flashed my radio the data speed test was 3000kb down but the web browsing still feels the same...
Does this data speed test really reflect what's going on??
I think yes and no. Your data speeds depend on traffic volume as well as what your running. Sometimes the speed test puts you on a server not in your area. Hope this helps
I think it really depends on the area your in doing the test and time of day . For the most part after rooting and flashing the kingdom rom 0.1 I noticed data wasn't as fast on speedtest like it was before the ota update from att

I have been back on GingerREMIX for about the last week and have noticed an issue with speeds over 3G / 4G / WIFI. I listen to Tune-In just about 24/7 and with BAMF 1.6.3 (Froyo), it never buffered. It seems with the Gingerbread leak that we have, it buffers over 3G, 4G and WIFI every 20 minutes or so.
So I have put together a little test sample of data speeds over 3G and 4G (I am working on WIFI results as well). The tests were performed on two different days at roughly the same time as well as in the same location to try to capture a fair sample. I will also note that absolutely no apps except for the speed test app were installed over the base ROM when testing.
I uploaded all of my results to google docs to make it easy for everyone to see.

Just something to think about before making the leap to alpha GB.
Disclaimer: In no way does this reflect on the quality of the BAMF ROM(s) as I have experienced the same type of issues on other GB based ROMs. It more or less comes down to the alpha build of GB that we have.
Interesting. Thanks for the "side-by-side" comparison.
Please don't tell me you used speedtest.net mobile app to get these results.
If you did, you should read the other 100 topics about Speedtest app not working on GB, you will in fact get normal speeds with GB just need to use a different speed test.
I really think that the leaked radio has more issues than just the possible bricking. When on CM7 GB, I get normal download speeds in the 12-20 mbps range, same with any froyo rom, however, when on any of the roms that need the leaked GB radio to work, I get horrible speeds. Netbook tethered to phone, Pandora/slacker streaming, YouTube streaming both normal and HQ videos. There is a definite and significant drop in download speeds.

Interesting, just when I used the leaked GB radio on Das BAMF everything ran fine with plenty of speed. Speedtest (Not the app) showed normal speeds and I never had a problem with downloading/streaming anything even the MR1 PG05IMG.zip to send me back to froyo downloaded in a minute or two (400mb file).
Also, Pandora didn't work on GB so I don't know where you got that from.
The 1.5.6 version of Pandora ran well, I couldn't get 1.5.7 to work though.

Hello friends,
How is the data speed of iio 4g in mi4i ???
Actually i got very low speed .sometime its fast but maximum times its slower..
Is there any tweaks or tricks to increase jio4g data speed in mi4i
hey,
I am from Ernakulam,Kochi. I get decent speeds here. Indoors I get minimum of 3.5mbps and maximum of 18mbps depending on the time. I once got 54mbps outdoors. Outdoors it's always 30mbps+.
Some tips I discovered are. The morning hours like 6-7 AM the speed is very high. During evening it works the slowest. So I'd say download during morning.
Find the best spot to get max speed at home by putting some big game like Asphalt on Play Store and roam around your home until you find that sweet spot.
Good Luck!
Depends on the location and time. The highest I got was 26 Mbps which was outdoor.
Yep actually it depends on pace and time.I saw different tricks in internet and try each one.But some works and some didn't.So,if u want to try it,here you go :-
1)At first change the internet protocol in APN setting to IP4/IP6.
2)Download a app name speedify and connect internet through India server by the app.
3)Try to download a app and resume it or watch a online video and pause it,see if ur speed increased.
4)Try to use uc browser for surfing and uc mini/ADM for downloading
I am not saying that these tricks will increase speed by lot but you can see a difference.Good luck.

Haha I think I had MIUI 8 to get that speeds. But on CM 13 the speeds are indifferent. I get great speeds irrespective of the ROM.
You are probably getting slow speed because of you're area. I think that way your out of luck..
