Is there a way to change/resize hdmi output resolution ? doesn't fit my tv - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As stated in the title, unfortunately my TV won't let me resize the image while using hdmi mode (don't know why...) and I can't see part of the image.
Is there a fix ? (even rooting)
thanks

I put mine in exact scan mode and it fit the screen correct, if you have that or a PC or gaming mode where it goes 1:1 with the pixels it might look better

Still couldn't fix this issue with my television screen, im attaching an image.
thanks

I have this issue as well. Hate it.. Anyone have a fix?

since I'm rooted I'd flash anything to address this boring issue

My TV has the same problem with different sources. Usually computers. It is a TV problem I think. However, my TV works much better with a smaller input size. It leaves about an inch around the outer edge. Hardly noticable though.
Maybe there could be an app for that. Like SetCPU does with OC's.

I had the same problem since the TV was looking for 1280x720 and the transformer is giving it 1280x800 instead. I was able to fix it using the built in scaling feature on my TV. Its an older Sony 720P DLP TV, so I'm sure most of the newer TVs have a similar scaling feature.

can't understand why but while in HDMI input it won't let resize the image, no problem with AV (like with my xbox)
I wrote about the same issues in another forum (asus transformer forum) and there are other guys experiencing the same issue.
thanks for the replies

I have this to not quite as bad but i cant see the bottom of the screen or a little bit on the edges but the top lines up sweet
I have tried everything hope somebody makes an app or fix for this maybe revolver parts screen resizing !!!!!!

Some tvs suffer from overscan and there is no fix. That being said, www.avsforum.com might be a better place to get more info on tour specific tv

Don't take this the wrong way but.... could be a cheap tv. My parents have an insignia and there is no 1:1 screen setting even on pc or gaming mode. It always cuts off the over scan space(no overscan).

I had the same overscan problem initially with my toshiba LCD TV, ie. the sides of the transformer desktop were clipped off but i fixed it via the Toshiba's screen adjust settings whereby you can select aspect-ratios such as "16:9", "4:3", "cinema" etc.
The setting that worked for me was "Exact scan". I believe it is called "Native" mode on some other brands of TV.
That's where to look.

Usually what it's called. Its just over scanning or a 1:1 pixel matching. But not every tv has this option.

Does Wyse Pocketcloud only support 4:3 resolutions ?

I downloaded pocketcloud (Free version) from the market few minutes back. It works fine, I could connect to my PC without any problems, I like the mouse implementation, and everything is good. Except the screen resolution. For some reason It only let me use 4:3 resolutions (1280x1024,1024x768,800x600 and 640x480). I looked everywhere in the settings of both Android and PC app, but there is no place to enable or set a wide screen resolution. When I use one of the above resolutions, PC screen shows up to the left and there is a huge black box on the right. I saw a couple of youtube videos where it runs full screen at wide screen aspect ratio. Why doesnt it work for me ? I would gladly buy the full version which is like $8, but only if it works in full screen mode.
Was not happy with resolution also with Wyse. Check out "2x" in market. This will go full tablet when opened, plus the free version supports multiple connection configuration unlike Wyse free.

No such complaints with the full version. Full screen works perfectly with Automatic resolution.

The paid version does support full screen resolution. Once I bought it, the PCs I connected to automatically went full screen, I didn't have to set the resolution. With the desktop client installed it is a super convenient RDP client. The only problem I have with it is that when using a USB mouse the right-click acts as a back button.

If you can pony up $5, SplashTop blows both 2X and Wyse out of the water. You get uber smooth remote desktop... of the likes you've probably never seen before.
Be sure to get the HD version...

But can it work behind a firewall (without port forwarding) ? I want something that can, haven't tested wyse completely but from the looks of it,seemed like it can.

As long as you install the desktop companion, Wyse will work behind a firewall. I saw in the comments of splashtop that it wasnt working behind a firewall but that "they are working on it." I also really like the way Wyse makes everything accessible from the on-screen cursor. Not sure how Splashtop takes care of things like right-click and drag n drop, but I like how Wyse does it. I also like that Wyse supports VNC for my Linux box.
I wish splashtop had a free light version so I could compare it without buying another RDP app. Although I see splashtop just lowered the price again, so I may have to give it a shot while it's on sale.

Micro HDMI practical usage

Hi,
I tested microHDMI cable today and connected pad to the HDTV. Works amazingly well. Surprised.
I was watching picture gallery, a HD movie and just took a quick 10 minute test.
I wonder what could be other practical things and what this could be used for:
- presentations
- music, of course
- games? how?
I have a problem with a fact that when the screen goes off - tablet is locked - movies stop playing.
This means the screen of pad must be always "on". So you basically have two screens. Not practical. Any workaround?
Same goes for games. I noticed i still have to look at the tablet to know where to press on the screen, so except when using the game controller and screen on....it is not possible to play on TV.
Am I correct? Any practical ideas? What can we use HDMI for.
My cable is also ethernet capable, which i didn't even know it exists. What about that? How to use that?
Sorry, many questions

A gamepad/controller will solve that issue. I agree that using the tablet for input and TV for displaying the output is not ideal
I've used the tablet with a micro-HDMI cable and BSPlayer with great results. It supports LAN mode (SBM/Windows file sharing), and can stream directly from RAR archives. Great for watching TV shows, etc for those of us who can't get Netflix, Hulu and so on.

This is a feature added in the HDMI 1.4 specification. It basically throws in a full duplex 100 Mbps Ethernet link alongside everything else going through the cable. It needs to be supported by both ends, and is mostly for TVs, receivers, etc. As far as I know, the TF700 does not support it, I'd be surprised if it did.
The cable is just transporting the signal, but manufacturers (and especially eBay sellers) love putting on features like that on HDMI cables. "3D support! Ethernet support! Will get you laid!" and so on
(More on HDMI 1.4, as well as version comparisons: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Version_1.4)
I know at least for my phone...I never really use it for anything more than playing a couple games with a controller, watching a video, or viewing photos. Maybe browsing the web, but not really. Emulators are the best, I love being able to play a little Super Smash Bros or Zelda: OoT on my TV via my phone (and tablet).

Possible to change MHL-HDMI out resolution?

I scoured the internet and these forums for an answer to this but found nothing. Does anyone know if this is possible? I know the max res is [email protected] and that is what my tv displays. I would like to set it to [email protected] (best for movies) or possibly even [email protected] (for gaming).
All I can think of is getting an adapter that tricks HDMI into thinking your TV isnt capable of doing certain resolutions, but I would rather not have to go that route.
Thanks.
if your tv supports it, force it into another resolution and see what the phone does with it. on my tv i can set the resolutions and refresh rates on the different inputs.
unfortunately my tv does not support that, who makes your tv? i have a 2009ish samsung lcd, i am pretty sure i know that tv inside and out but its possible the functionality is hidden away somewhere.

Screencast to PC

I ended up with the note after replacing my tf101 with the tf300 and tested the note and loved it in every way.
I'm not really even missing the keyboard dock and finding many ways to use the spen on a regular basis.
What I'd love though is to basically use the note as a digital whiteboard for teaching. Essentially to be able to write in smote or quill while sending the screen display over wifi to the PC connected to the projector system. Is there any way to do this? To do a live screencast from the note to a PC?

Have had zero luck even getting it to connect. PC install didn't work at work, tried at home and apparently needed to let it restart and then install all over. Still cannot connect the device though, device always scans when I turn on AllShare cat in network and Allshare on the PC recognizes an "intel" device. Thought for sure the Note would appear there.
Any tips on how to use it?
Does it actually do this? I gave up on it because what I see on Samsung's website only talks about sharing music/video and I didn't see any mention of streaming the tablet display to the PC. (Except the idea that you could watch a game on the PC, but see nothing about this in the app itself.)

Were you able to figure this out? I'm a teacher as well and do things with my HP tablet, but really want to with many Note.
You can execute AllShare through Samsung Kies, as well.
My suggestion would be to try and look at Remotes. You may be able to find drawing input ones. I use Unified Remote for using my phone/tablet as an input device. Although, the free version is limited to about 13 remotes or so. With the pro version you get it up in it's 50's. I'm not sure if this has what you're looking for but you can make your own custom remotes.
Or, alternatively, you can use a Remote Desktop client. Some of these may adjust your screen resolution on the PC so it fits well in the Note 10, but you can easily change it back. But it'll effect the view on the tablet. For this, I use Splashtop 2 HD.

What is Samsung Kies and what is Remotes?
I've done some investigating and I think the only way that AllShare works to screencast to another device is to send it to an AllShare Play device. Unfortunately I don't think (but really hope I'm wrong) the PC software works this way.
I'm curious, has anyone tried the VNC Server for Android and tried connecting in a view mode on a PC?

This is the setup I use and would suggest to everone in need to present from Galaxy Note 10.1:
buy Allshare Cast dongle , search for it on Amazon
buy HDMI to VGA adapter
connect HDMI to VGA adapter to projector and Allshare to A/C
on Note 10.1, Settings/More Settings/AllShareCast, the dongle will be detected something like "Dongle-xxxxx", tap to connect
When connected, start to present, wireless, move in the room, take the S-Pen and highlight the important topics etc.
On that way, no hassles with connection to PC/laptop and then to projector. AND the coolness factor is priceless! Every time I present there is a WOW factor, the downturn is sometimes people are not listening to my presentation but wants to see the technology.
And the Apple fanboys in the meetings around with their iPads - can you imagine several of them told me "nah, that is PROPRIETARY technology" !? LOL! I was very respectful before to other people opinions and personally I am very thankful to the genius work of Steve Jobs but in recent time I simple shoot back very sharp - face it, Apple funboy!

I don not own any Apple product and cannot say anything about it.
Everything what you can see on your Note 10.1 screen you are seeing parallel on the second display. I have tested it with several projectors from Dell, Sony, signal to those devices over their VGA ports and the experience is exactly the same to one with the laptop connected to the projector. The best result is via HDMI port, majority of the business projectors do not have one but monitors and TV have them and the result is gorgeous, beside the screen the audio is transferred too.
The video player is optimized for the AllShare Cast, when playing you can see the video on the second screen and on Note 10.1 you have the control menu.
Polaris office works fine too, same experience, WYSIWYG on both screens. For slides (aka PowerPoint), when connected to AllShare Cast dongle, the slide show button clicked shows the selection of
Primary display
Dual monitor
Controller & Note
but only the Primary display selection switches to presenter mode. Even then, the pen modes is active so you can annotate with S-Pen direct on the slides during the presentation, the killing feature for me.
Small downturn - multiscreen is not working when connected to Allshare Cast dongle, only single screens, but the floating helicopter videos is working and that is impressive for entertaining the people after the work is done :fingers-crossed:.

That sounds amazing. I'd love to see a video of it all in action. Sounds great, especially being able to run a presentation and markup with the pen, but would like to see it before dropping about $100 on the setup.
I've been testing splashtop whiteboard but have had problems getting it to connect. Sometimes it will.... sometimes it won't. Would prefer to just screencast and run everything from the tablet anyway. The presentation mode sounds impressive and ability to swith into Sketchbook or snotes would be great.

First off thank you for your help and input. My school is going to purchase this for me but I have one additional question. We do not have HDMI projectors in our building. I was wondering if an HDMI-VGA adapter would work? It will not provide true 1080P but that is a non-issue for me. I only want to be able to project the S-Note or any note app so my students can take notes on what I am writing. Again thank you for your help.

Hopefully they have a solution soon. The only thing that would improve this setup is being able to use the Controller & Note presentation mode.
Anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong? .I can project the screen when the dongle is connected with HDMI, but when I connect with an HDMI to VGA converter the Allshate Cast automatically shuts down and the Note restarts.

did anyone manage to solve the display mirroring to PC software?
I found another way to get very good results in mirroring wirelessly from Note to PC: Teamviewer. Download the free app from the play market, and also the free PC client from the Teamviewer website. A tad laggy, but works well for presentations.

could tell me please the type of hdmi to vga adapter exactly with the manufacturing code, there is a lot of staff on the market and I am pretty sure not all of them are working, thanks
I just got the dongle. It works great!
A few comments:
(1) For rooted device (like mine), the app "triangle away" is needed. The dongle works after (but not before) I reset the counting using triangle away. For un-rooted devices (the device is un-rooted if you didn't root it yourself) it shouldn't be an issue.
(2) The dongle works with a hdmi-VGA converter. The one I bought is this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cable-Matte...7O2U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358947513&sr=8-1
I am sure lots of other converters should work as well. But there may be two things to note. It would be safer if
(a) "Active" converters should have more chance to work than "passive" converters. There is an IC chip in active converters. The passive ones are just data lines.
(b) Make sure the converter does not need too much power to work. The one I bought is raspberry PI compatible. This typically mean the converter the current it draws from the device is not too large. In some previous post it is mentioned the dongle could reset when connected to VGA converters. I doubt it may because of too much power required by the converter.
(3) I didn't notice any lag or instability issues with 30 minutes of use (I installed a firmware update before usage. The discovery of update and installation is automatic. I just clicked OK).
I didn't (and will not) use it to play games or watch movies anyway. I only want to use it to do presentations via projectors. Games and movies transfers much more data, in which case I haven't tested.
I will update if I got problems using the dongle for a longer time.
(4) The "multi-window app" feature goes away when the dongle is connected. (It re-appears after disconnection.)
UPDATE:
After more test, there do exist a few problems:
(1) If I play a video in full screen (both youtube video online or downloaded videos using MXplayer), the video is only shown on external display. Even worse, when I exit the full screen mode of the video player, the allshare connection typically crashes. I need to go to settings to connect again (no reboot needed though).
On the other hand, for youtube without going to full screen, there is no problem. And when I compare the two displays, there is no lag between them.
(2) In polaris office, only the "primary display" mode works well. In other two modes, the external screen only update partially.
Both of them should be software problems. If I don't do (1) of the above, I never met crash or disconnections. I didn't test the device with games. There is no random disconnection so far (this is most important for me).
The connection is stable within 10 meters, while it breaks at about 30 meters (together with 2 doors blocking the space).
Finally, there is a drop of display quantity if the image is quickly changing, and I watch closely enough. But considering I only need to display static images, this is not a problem. The display quantity of static images is great. Compared with the TeamViewer + computer solution, the dongle uses less resources on the tablet and gives much better image quality. The usage of battery is not heavily affected either. I used in total 7% battery power per hour for light usage of the tablet with dongle connection (and among which the tablet screen still used most of battery as usual).

Point of View HDMI Smart TV Dongle

hi all, i have bought the above smart tv dongle thingy from maplins
http://www.maplin.co.uk/point-of-view-hdmi-smart-tv-dongle-android-4.1-685649
anyone have one of these? im pretty impressed with it, im not too happy with the menu though and id like to customize it a bit.. any ideas on what can be done with this device?
Thanks
First thing to do with this device
I just got one.
First thing I did was install ADW Launcher Ex on it and get rid of the horrible launcher it came with.
Now I have a very fast 42" tablet, with widgets, live wallpapers the lot, no root required.
This thing has loads of potential, but if you read the customer reviews on Maplin you'll see they haven't understood that this is Android and you can customise the heck out of it.
The only thing I've found missing so far is a lock screen in case you don't want others using it while your not there without unplugging it. I also heard it loses datetime if you unplug it, not surprising as it doesn't have an internal clock battery.
It's surprisingly fast, but if you're mouse pointer will lag under heavy load.
Still exploring potential will post back as I find out more.
Ah thanks! I have since rooted and installed different firmware! I found out that it was a re-branded Rikomagic MK802III and installed the latest firmware for that device which is way better. I have XBMC running alongside MX Player Hardware video decoding, all is sweet. I found out all I needed from this guys post. Enjoy

I also have this dongle which is connected to my tv. I also have mine and my Mrs's Android phones which are running kit Kat and another ohms running on jelly bean.
Is there anyway to mirror my or my wife's phone to the dongle add we both have the mirror screen option on or phones?
Answers/help will be appreciated.
Point of View HDMI Smart TV dongle - interface & WD My Passport
Hi,
I have just bought the hdmi dongle and m not very technology savvy. One of the main reasons I got it was to be able to connect my WD My Passport to it to play movies etc. However I can't seem to change the settings on the menu - so when I click on Movies - rather than all my separated folders showing up - instead it shows an icon of my 1500 movies (which includes about 750 clips of my kids). I can't seem to find a way to get it to display the folders, or even a list of the movies rather than the huge icons! Is there a way around this?
Thanks in advance,
Colette
