Homescreen grid. Which one do you use? - HTC Sensation

The default one on Sense is 4x4, but it could be increased with the likes of ADW or Launcher Pro.
I was playing with different values, but widgets are always overlapping.
If we take 960×540 display and subtract notification and dock areas, what's left? Don't think it is going to be 540x540. So, if I want to get rectangular greed, I'd need more rows, then columns.
What would be the optimal grid settings for qHD resolution?

I use adw.launcher with 6*8 grid. It's perfect for me.

So, using 6x8 on qHD screen, what would be the size of 1x1 cell?
I was trying to measure it with Desktop Visualizer tool, but the resulting widgets still overlap. ((

Sure icon texts / labels are overlapping, but I don't keep them enabled.

5x5 looks best with icon text

5 x 4 is enough imo

I use Elixir, and with the widgits, it is possible to get up to 7x7 icons on a screen.

I'm using Launcher Pro Plus and I think it looks great 6x4. It has an option to re-size widgets so that they don't overlap.

I use Elixir also. Started using it for the monitor and toggle widgets but fell in love with the app launcher widgets. I actually have zero icons on my home screens (all widgets) since Elixir is a widget. 49 icons on one home screen!

I really wish Sense could do at least 5x5...

I use ADW EX. 5x7 Is the best for me. 6x8 is too cluttered and it makes the icon labels overlap. Btw if the widgets look out of proportion just long press on them, press edit and adjust them to your liking.

Question about HTC Sense UI

Hi,
If I look the main screen of HTC Sense, there is one big clock on top and 4 icons on the bottom.
While in the middle, there is empty space ...
Can I put widgets there?
Thanks.
mmhmm
Yes, you can fill the entire screen with, well whatever your heart desires they just need to be the correct size, which is common sense
Thanks
What do you mean with the correct size?

Try to put a widget in the gap that's bigger than the gap, and you'll find out.
Dunno if i'm stating the obvious here but not sure if you realise...
You can also move/delete the clock and the icons. Replace them with whatever else.
Home screen items and widgets are locked to a 4x4 grid with icons being 1x1, things like the power widget and search bars being 1x4, etc. The SenseUI clock is actually a 4x3 widget iirc, so you can only get a single row of icons underneath it.
sure,you can.

no the clock is 4x2
what i did was to put the sense calendar widget in that place. looks good and functional
TIP:use androids stock analog clock,it's much neater imo and more usable since you don't need weather forecast (and especially your location) every time you look at your phone....it is 2x2 so you can have a better usage of your screen and will also save your battery
Better use smaller clock, 2 put more useful widgets @ home screen. Look at my home, for example.

Grid Display Sizes

I'm trying to cram a couple wigdets and icons onto the same same for my Epic 4G, and I noticed something when I was trying out Launcher Pro: the bottom control icons didn't have titles under them, and as a consequence, Launcher Pro is able to fit 5 control widgets on one line.
Is there any app/workaround out there that allows you to change the grid size of your display from 4x4 to 5x5 or to hide the text that is below the app icons to provide more app space?
mission possible! you need to be a hacker http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=697994
good luck
Don't you just need to change the number of rows and columns in the LauncherPro homescreen settings? Unless you're talking about something different.

There is an app called lcd density I believe and it makes it possible to fit more
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
LCD density just changes the DPI, so things look bigger or smaller. It doesn't affect the placement of shortcuts or widgets. Like Jumba said, you can change everything you've mentioned in Launcher Pro. It's the main reason I use it over Sense.

[Q] How many Android homescreens do you use?

I've been wondering how many of their homescreens do people actually use?
I use LauncherPro on my T-Mobile G2x, and I've only ever felt comfortable with just one homescreen. I find the app drawer to be much easier than swiping screens.
I have over 100 apps so I use all 7 screens.
Sent from my MikG powered Evo
I use all of mine, 2 for news, 1 home, 1 twitter and fb, and one for a 4x4 calender widget
I only use one, and even then I dont use widgets or icons.
I use Launcher Pro and the 3 docks and that does the trick for me.
Love the clean look.
I use adw ex with my screens set to 4x4 and no dock. I kind of use an i phone look with every app displayed on my homescreens so right now im at 6 pages. But i use simplistic black icons and it all comes together great
I'm forced to use at least 6 homes in my sense rom because of widgets, but in aosp rom i used someone less (adw launcher ex FTW! )
3 screens for me.
More widgets
I need more widgets for my homescreens
One here.
I am boring and don't use much of my home screen.
A clock at the top row, and a couple of app icons I use a lot, arranged in an arc that I can reach with my thumb in normal position
I can do my daily tasks on this phone often without even moving my thumb to select, due to the position of the icons
I have 4 but only use 3.
Sent from my X10i
One here using launcher pro with just a beautiful widgets clock and a dock with gmail phone texting and web.use the app drawer for the rest
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
I use 3, I rather consolidate my apps within folders than spread them across multiple homescreens.
I use Launcher Pro and 5 screens. One for all my rooting/modding apps, one for games, one for frequent contacts, one for tool/productivity apps(no root), and the middle one blank except for the alarm clock app.
Also use all 3 docks.
Droid 2 Global
[ROM]Hexen 1.0.1 (Final)
I use animated Widgets to group similar programs together (all map, navigation; family;messaging) etc and I have it kept to 4 homescreens. I do use and rely on social, task and calendar widgets though.
Also running with Go Launcher Ex or whatever and have frozen/blocked most of the blur/motorola bloatware.
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA Premium App
3 screens seems to be the sweetspot.
i like to use that as well.
left for music widget center for weather/calendar widgets and right for appfolders
I use 3-4 on my Dinc, but I like to go either 5x5 or 6x6 for rows and columns. Always beautiful widgets. Ever since cm7 was released, I only use adw launcher ex. For my Nook, I use only one homescreen, and no dock. Both are OCed CM7.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
One home screen here. As someone else mentioned, I find the vertical scrolling app drawer easier to navigate than the horizontal navigation of home screens.

Reduce icon spacing?

Is there a way to reduce the icon/widget spacing to get more in on each page?
Cheers
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
If you use a different launcher, such as LauncherPro or ADWLauncher, then you can change the numbers of rows/columns on the homescreen to fit more icons on.
I use LauncherPro and have 6 rows on my home screens.
Launcher pro plus ftw

or you can try Elixir Widget, it can put 7 x 7 icons in 4 x 4 widget space.

(Apps) ( Updated ) Sense 4 Launcher, Sense 4 Big & Small Clock, Butterfly Clock

Hai,,,,
I want to share how to make your phone looks like HTC SENSE Launcher with SENSE 4 Clock and HTC J Butterfly clock using APEX LAUNCHER and FANCY WIDGET based on free version Modify by me for QHD 540 x 960 testing with MTK Based phone....
Setting Apex Launcher and clock widget :
1. Homescreen Setting ---> set 5 x 4 potrait grid and change the vertical margin to Large
2. Dock Setting ---> set Horizontal margin to Large, Vertical margin to None and check Hide dock divider and then change the dock background to custom and choose dock icon from attachments below
3. now you can change dock icon manually
4. add 7 homescreen in desktop so the screen indicator will be short like sense 4 launcher indicator
5. resize the clock until you see same as screen shot below
6. make 4 folder like in screen shot below for looks like htc j butterfly
7. tap minute clock to enter fancy widget setting
Setting Fancy Sense 4 Small ( With Weather Animation based on Fancy Widget Pro 1.0.8 )
1. Appearance Settings --> Widget Style --> Flip Clock
2. Advanced Settings --> Choose Enable unlock animation
Note :

I have the an HTC One V which has a resolution of 480x800. I find your Butterfly Clock works perfectly without using the Apex Launcher but is too big (see pic) as it is designed for 540x960. Is there any chance of re-sizing it for this resolution please..

HTC J
Hi, that was quick. Is this a stand alone app or still for Apex Launcher? I think a stand alone app would be popular. The first shot shows the original clock (top) and the new one (bottom) without Apex Launcher. The second shot shows the clock with Apex Launcher.
The original clock is in the correct design for butterfly the new one is not. Also the original has Accuweather which is much better.
My thoughts are it would be nice to have a stand alone butterfly clock app with two sizes 480x800 and 540x960 with accuweather which HTC uses. I don't know what other people think, many thanks...
