Tablet CPU usage monitor - Eee Pad Transformer Themes and Apps

https://market.android.com/details?....tabletcpuusagesmonitor&feature=search_result
Came across this app yesterday, it works really well on the transformer.
There are 2 versions, a free one and a paid one.
It shows you CPU useage, load and frequency for both cores and can run in the notification area if you like.
I bought it, the dev sent me a thank you email and seems very friendly

Thanks for this info, I've used Elixir up to now but this only seems to report the overall CPU usage - it doesn't appear to support multi-core CPUs or tablets yet. I'll have to give this one a try when I get a chance...

SeePU is also similar, but will show you network traffic also. It can plot historical data, and do so with a graph in the notification bar.
IDK if you need root, as all my tablets and phones are rooted.

If you are a resource monitor freak, try this:

Fresh Toast 2.1 - OC Widget vs. SetCPU

Could anyone help me out with this? I was using SetCPU, but I had heard about its constant processor use and "instability" (jumping down to 19MHz?). So I switched to OC Widget, but I'm having some issues with battery life. I had it set to 767MHz max/min when the screen was on and 245? max/min when the screen was off (I always had SetCPU on "performance"). However, I seem to lose battery like crazy with this for some reason! I switched to 245min/767max with the screen on, and I seem to lose battery much slower, but I will get a bit of lag sometimes (especially when typing something). Any assistance?

Overclock Widget vs SetCPU: Up until now toast and I have been pushing SetCPU because it allows us to create a custom file that tells it what clock speeds the rom is capable of running at which makes things nice and easy. However a couple of bugs have come up lately. First off is that it is constantly using 10-15% of the processor when it shouldn’t even be doing anything. That doesn’t sound like a lot but that’s pretty extreme. The second issue is that it doesn’t seem to be honoring the settings you pick. I could tell it that I want the minimum to be 245mhz but I would catch it at 19mhz. Or vice-versa I tell it that I want the max to be 650mhz and I catch it at 767mhz. With that said, toast took the time to program settings in to the kernel that will now allow you to pick “automatic” off of the device selection rather than custom. This may resolve the issue, so just keep an eye out for it if you use SetCPU. In OC Widget just go in to settings and click “Detect frequencies” to have it read them. If you have no preference then I’m personally saying to use Overclock Widget. It isn’t quite as user friendly as SetCPU, but it gets the job done right. Additionally as a 3rd reminder: make sure if you are running Fresh Toast that you DO use one of these applications, and if you are running Fresh Rom that DO NOT run one of these. Doing so can cause slowdowns.

Yes, I read that. That is where I got the information about SetCPU being funky.
I wish I could help, but I'm in a "noob-state-of-mind" right now...how the hell do I find OC Widget? I see it no where!
Thanks,
Tee Jay

I don't know how much you use your phone, but to say I use mine heavily is like calling Rosie a bit chunky. The settings I use are min:652.8 max:767 while on
min:19.2 max:247 while sleeping. I get roughly 6 hours batter life. But I literally use my internet for around 6 hours every day, plus calling, texting, email etc.
I'd imagine, if you use it less, you'd get much better battery life.
Edit: Oh! And I run MUCH more stably with OC widget than setcpu.

CPU Tuner - Battery Saver

Guys, look that...it seems to be nice...I installed and im still testing...Some users said this app helps to increase the battery life in almost 25%....I liked the UI also, is very very nice...
Im going to test...

same here, I cannot change settings, however, I do not find apps running slower or the whole sys response got worse
There is no way a cpu tweak can save you anywhere near 25% ...
The screen uses about 80-95% of the battery even with a 1.2ghz overclock cpu doesn't make near that much of a difference...

It's funny because I thought the screen was a new technology super battery-saver lol and it's clearly not
However, the Wave who have 0.7 smaller screen but the same technology have a battery like 3x times better.
the difference? the os. I'm pretty sure the problem comes from the Android and nothing else.
I would second android being the culprit....considering most of us are running leaked 2.2 battery management has not been fully implemented. I had great battery life on jh3 and jh7...... but I would never go back to eclair to get better battery life. The epic is starting to get.official froyo and I read that Canada should start seeing froyo this week......all we need is for att to get on the ball and Samsung to release their source code

hey guys,
does anyone have an older version of this app. It used to work great for me, but with the latest updates it has not performed as well.
thanks.
Actually the 1.0.1 version is really good. Here is a guide how to use it:

I haven't tried it yet. But if I understand what it is by the name I don't think it will help that much. Android OS already changes frequency based upon usage. You can see these percentages in the Android System Information app. For example, mine reads as follows:
1000.0 MHz 3.19%
800.0 MHz 6.49%
400.0 MHz 5.5%
200.0 MHz 9.58%
100.0 MHz 75.13%

[Q] Any tips on saving battery on Sensation ?

So i just got a deal for a cheap Sensation and decided to give it a try. After a few days, i really like the Sense UI + ICS but find the battery is pretty bad compare to my GS2.
The Sensation drains about 8% overnight while the gs2 drains 2-3% overnight, both with nothing on. When playing music (doing nothing else, screen off) the battery drains a whopping 5%/h. while i dont think the gs2 would drain more than 1%/h just playing music. I thought the battery life on both phones should be more or less the same given the same specs and battery capacity (1650 vs 1520).
To be more specific, my ROM is ARHD 6.5.0 ICS, i havent installed any new app yet, i have the follwing widgets on : email, messages, weather, contact, task, music. I'm not sure if the drainage is coming from those widgets.
One more question, is there any way to quickly change brightness ? (like sliding the status bar as with the gs2). Auto brightness may be draining more battery but going through setting->display->brightness every single time is painful.
Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you.
download just defence i got a good result of it underclock your phone a bit to
Is there a kernel that allows undervolting which is fully compatible with ARHD6 ICS ?

something like this should do im not sure havent seen any other kernel for sensetion 3.32 base UV'ed
Juice Defender is a good option to test out, even using default settings it's pretty good with helping battery usage/drain.
Otherwise ARHD is using Sebastian's kernel at this point and you have the choice of using the 1.2 or OC'd 1.5 Ghz speed when flashing. If you're concerned you can use the 1.2 version or flash the 1.5 and just set the clock speed using something like SetCPU, available here on XDA, or System Tuner, from the Market.
As far as I know right now, the kernels are not allowing UV because the official source hasn't been released yet. Once source is released/obtained then things like UV and other deeper optimizations can be done by the awesome kernel developers here.

Actually didn't realize it would do it, awesome and thank you!
I normally perform my UVing through System Tuner Pro, but the options are not available at this time, I just checked, so I didn't realize another app that also allowed UV would still allow it. See what I get for assuming...... lol

So you have finally made your choice in choosing between HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S II? Found yourself having to recharge your new Android device every 8hours? You’re not alone. Some users reported to have a poor battery performance for their Android phones. Older device ranging from HTC Desire, Motorola Droid, Samsung Galaxy S, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to the latest dual-core Android phones; LG Optimus 2x, Motorla Atrix, HTC Sensation, and Samsung Galaxy S II, are not sparred with complains of poor battery life. However, Android itself is not a power hogger, or call it battery juice sucker if you like. Many users were able to get their Android device up and running in a single charge up to 3 days(gosh I missed the good old Nokia 3310-era).There are many factors in leading to poor battery life. The very main reasons are the display and unnecessarily turned on features, which some users don’t have a clue in turning it off. If you are happened to be one of the Android users not happy of the current battery performance, or you simply just want to improve the extra mileage of your Android device’s battery performance, here are some tips in improving the battery life of your Android phone.

Battery problems absolutely solved with "3g off" widget, on the market. I don't need anything more than basic phone and sms for hours at a time so I just hit the widget. Takes a few seconds to sync latest mail when it comes back on but less time than that to just find a 4g link. Great when I'm at the ofc where my mail gets pushed to my laptop anyway.
Very useful also in a weak-signal area, stops drain due to signal-search.
Juice Defender is very good for battery life but this solution is even better although the widget does require manual intervention when the screen comes back up. I use both. Possibly JD paid app automates the whole process.

Cool Tool= Bad name but cool app

I'm fairly new to the XDA world, and all the "fun" that comes with it. I have been totally wrapped up in why my phone does what it does when it does it. A few times a week I'll run a dump file on Better Battery stats, run quadrant score while making a minor tweak on a governor or OC etc. Lately I have been addicted to this Cool Tool app, and thought I'd share. For all I know, you all may know all about it, but I don't see it on the threads here in SGS4G.
It's...... well.... COOL
It has alot of user friendly setting choices. It floats anywhere on your screen, while running your browser, or an app whatever. I keep mine up in the notification bar ( see screenshot). It does not appear on your lock screen.
Anyways, I have mine set to show CPU usage and freq. free ram, network traffic, battery temp, and my favorite- most resource intensive process. So while I open my browser and go to a website, I can watch what my phone is doing, how much cpu and at what point, and what %. Plus when I'm on my homescreen , I can see what resource it randomly draws from, system_server, events/0, android.email(and watch the network and cpu jump as my phone checks the email)
Could be one of many , but I like this one and you should check it out. Thoughts?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ult#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImRzLmNwdW92ZXJsYXkiXQ..
I haven't tried that one yet, thanks for the pointer!
Along with BetterBatteryStats, I've used Quick System Info Pro, as well as System Tuner (Pro) and Battery Monitor WIdget (Pro) for a long time and find them pretty valuable. The support from 3C on the last two has been beyond excellent. Looks like Cedric has merged his apps together as well.
Nice! I'm going to check those links out, Thanks. I'm definitely interested in your thoughts on Cool Tool, Jeff. Let me know after you've had a chance to go through it?

I'll try it for a bit, mainly because it is fun. It would have been handy for the CPU-speed overlay when I was tweaking the governor for Hefe Kernel, for sure.
Looks like it is likely a battery hog, especially that "top resource" feature - which more often than not is reporting ds.cpuoverlay - this app?
Posted from my SGS4G, thanks to Team Acid development
Yeah, ds CPU overlay is pertaining to this app. I haven't noticed a battery difference tho. The only place I see it in bbs is in services, and it sits very low, that's a dump file after a full day. And in stock battery stat after a full day running, it doesn't show on list of %(yet xda and and other minimal apps do) Good point tho. Don't want to cut ourselves off at the knees trying to save our shoelaces.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
I suspect that it is running the standard utility "top" and parsing the output. That approach self-pollutes since you're always running when you "randomly" sample to see what is running. I don't know if that made sense, but...

CPU doesn't seem to go past 1.5ghz

So i have ran antutu bench mark and then ran better battery stats afterwards and it said my CPU stayed at 1.5ghz the whole time. I was under the impression that it should of changed to the other 4 cores under strenuous activity such as benchmarking. Is there another way i can check to see if all 8 cores work?
I'm guessing that a lot of apps need updating to realise that 4 of the cores are rated at high clocks. No matter what app I use, the highest reported clock speed is 1.5Ghz. BUT that doesn't mean that the other four cores are not working as expected. I can't remember what app I was using at the time when I did this, but I was running something in the background or something, I dunno, something, and I was watching the clock speeds of the 8 cores in the app, and I can confirm that the power cores DO hit 2.1Ghz.
So to clarify, most apps at current are only reporting the CPU clock speed of the efficient cores.
Devs just need to look into how their apps get their data stats etc.

Good recommendation! Cheers! Shame it only does an overlay for the "first 4 cores" though. But it definitely does show the varying and correct usage of all cores

Yep that worked! You can select to show the other cores as overlays in advanced settings. The phone is actually using the other 4 cores heaps. Just in general use it uses them, I wonder if we will be able to change a governor so that it restricts using the power cores as much.

It's quite a unique setup, but maybe one day, with a custom kernel, that level of control may be possible. Who knows?
