I usually add a few more steps, and I've never had a bad flash.
I'll spell it out, in case you don't know:
open rom manager > reboot into recovery > wipe data/factory reset > back > wipe cache partition > back > advanced > wipe dalvik cache > back > wipe battery stats > back > back > install zip from sd card > choose zip from sd card > select your rom > install!
Hope that helps.

If you do a search for the full wipe zip in the development area you will find this to be the most useful tool to wipe your phone. All you do is put it on the root of your SD card and then when you install a new rom you use the full wipe zip and it works quite well to prep your phone for the new rom, something that worked well with my old inspire and something I will use with my new Red Inspire when I get it.

It does a good job, be sure before you flash this you have the next ROM ready to flash. It wipes everything.
I found the link to give credit where it's due.

Good morning. Let me see if I can help you. Did you follow the directions in the OP of that thread you linked to? If you did then you should have downloaded two zip files. Without Google Play I am guessing you didn't flash the second file, which is the Google Apps. In other words, if you flashed the ROM then your phone did see your downloads on the SD card, so I am not sure why you didn't flash the google apps (gapps) package in the same session?
Anyway, here's my advice, assuming you downloaded the two zip files:
power off the phone and boot back into recovery.
Then follow the instructions from the OP:
Download the latest CyanogenMod 10.1 build (link below) (done, yes?)
Download the latest Google Apps Package (link below) (done, yes?)
Put both .zip-files into the root-directory directory of your SD Card: /storage/sdcard/0/ (done, yes?)
Boot into your Custom Recovery
"wipe data/factory reset"
"wipe cache partition"
"advanced" > "wipe battery stats"&"wipe dalvik cache"
"mounts and storage" > format everything except sdcard
Flash the two files with the Recovery via "install zip from sdcard" > "choose zip from sdcard"
"wipe cache partition"
"advanced" > "wipe dalvik cache"
"reboot system"
When I have the time, I try to go through Q&A threads and answer the ones with zero replies... Good luck, bud... once you get this straightened out you'll enjoy it.

[Q] Phone hangs on CM10 Splash screen after install

Hi there,
I previously had the CM9 Rom on my phone and now I try to upgrade it to the CM10 rom. Unfortunately, this is not working as expected. I've downloaded the CM10 latest nightly build from the download section on the CyanogenMod10 Website and put it under a folder on my SDCard.
Then, here's the step that i'm following;
Boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Go to “advanced” and “wipe dalvik cache”.
Go to “mounts and storage” and format system and cache.
Go to “install zip from sdcard” > choose zip from sdcard” > select the ROM zip package. When prompted, select “yes” and flash it.
Wipe dalvik cache
Finally, go back to main menu and select “reboot system now”.
I might be missing something at some point, but can't tell what. Any help on the topic?
Regards,
Benkkei

[Completed] Partition Cache vs Dalvik Cache vs Storage Settings Cahce

I searched but could not find a clear answer.
Q1) What is the difference between A) Wipe Cache parition from recovery B) Wipe Dalvik cache in recovery and C) Go to Settings -> Storage -> Internal Storage -> Cached Data -> Delete.
Q2) Is it good to wipe which cache regularly?
Q3) I can't wipe my parition cache using TWRP as my phone is encrypted. Is using the Storage Settings wipe good enough?
