Support/Roms for gz'one Commando? - General Questions and Answers

hey guys i just got my Commando and rooted it with SOC. Now that that's done, i'd really like to put a diff rom on it, but havent had any luck finding one. Cyanogen is a no go. Is there any talk of Commando support on here? (I used the search, only found a few threads that don't really go in depth, and no section for the Commando itself.)
Thanks guys and you got some great forums here.

roms for commando on super one click
Yes on roms please. I know one of you super geniuses out there can develop one for S.O.C.
C'mon, let me have an indestructible cool phone!

I agree, this phone needs some serious development. It's the perfect phone for those of us that work/play in rugged outdoor environments but it's gonna take some serious tweaks to satisfy us gadget heads with it's sorely under-powered processor specs.
The trick might be to try and figure out who manufactured this device for Casio....Is it just a HTC device with a fancy suit? If so then maybe some of the ROM's for that brand would work...My guess is that it's just another phone that's been repackaged in a rugged shell. Anyone have any ideas?

from what I heard it was hitachi

Getitnowmarketing has posted a customy recovery for the Commando over on androidforums. I have installed it and it works. What is going to be a problem is that there is no way to boot into recovery from off. You have to call recovery from terminal emulator or from adb.
Hopefully a developer will come up with a ROM - but how do you test it in the face of a mistake can result in a brick that can't be fixed?

Pantech Duo C810

Being a complete noob in the smartphone arena, I would like to know what ROM's? are compatible with my phone.
I was parusing the site and ran this one (see link)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380991&highlight=pantech
Is this compatible with my pantech duo c810?
If not, how about pointing me in the right direction.
Thanks
Unfortunately, none of the ROMs you'll find here will work on the Pantech C810, or any Pantech phone for that matter. Problem is, they havent found a way to allow the phone to load any ROMs other than the ones that come from either Pantech or AT&T. What you can do is customize the hell outa the phone by hand, but it isn't easy. Hopefully, someone will find out how to bust open the phone and we can have our way with the ROMs, but until then, its hand fixes for those of us who still have too much student loan debt to afford awesome phones.
I bought this phone for my sister a few months back thinking that I would have been able to tweak it like i do my kaiser. Hope they finally do crack this thing, its actually a pretty kickass phone. Dont be ashamed, its still better than a razr...

Snapdragon 1 GHz is great BUT...

I just picked up a LG IQ (Monaco) from Telus, but I am not sure what to do....I posted a similar list of questions over on ppcgeeks, but then relized that the LG IQ is sort of a GSM phone (Telus seems to be migrating to a GSM G3+ system from thier CDMA system) and thier might be more interest over here.
I did have a Rogers GSM Apache prior to my Touch Pro, so I was watching this sight quite a bit years ago.
I have just come from a Touch Pro, so the LG IQ is a smokingly fast device, both from a responsiveness, and web surfing point of view. The 1 GHz realy DOES make a difference!!!
But that is my problem...
For what it does, its great, but the interface is far behind the latest Sence builds ( I have mostly used Energy CDMA ROM's on my Touch Pro - thanks NRG!!).
So I have a phone that does stuff FAST, but I miss all the bells and whistles of the new HTC software.
1. What to you guys think..should I keep the device, or go to a Touch Pro2, a known but much more limited hardware platform?
2. Do you think there will be enough interest to open it up and start building kitchens/ROMs?
3. Should I just live with it and put Spb shell or something on it?
Sadly the TP2 or the Omnia (1) really are the only WM options available directly from telus right now, and I am quite a committed WM user (I started with the original CE PDA's)
Ready to hear all thoughts.
If there is interest I will post a miny review in a couple of days...are you interested?
keep your 1G phone! everybody say window mobile is sluggish, maybe on 528mzh cpu, but on snapdragon 1G i dont feel any slowness, it quick! and load/render web pages really quick too! if the phone is hot/popular, people will make custom rom for it!
i love my Acer neotouch with 1G cpu, it' so fast!
i tihnk u should keep it. i would love to hv the lg expo as my 2nd phone. mostly because of the keyboard.
right now im on acer neotouch which also has the 1ghz snappydragon and it feels really snappy compared to my old wm phone (X1).
however it also lacks a custom interface likes htc's sense but i hv installed PointUI on my acer just to cover up some of the default windows stuff. maybe u can try that.
i think there will be enough interest in the lg expo that some smart ppl will start developing custom roms for it.
just like my acer neotouch. i was surprised a couple of members here hv cooked custom roms with htc sense for it. though i havent tried them out myself. maybe in time.

1) No, the Touch PRo hasn't been out that long either. There will be plenty of goodies for the LG soon enough once it gets a bit more market penetration. I myself have the phone on order but won't be getting it until next week or later (hoping it arrives before christmas x (>.<) x [fingers crossed]). Just give it some time.
2)Most assuredly! The eXpo has quite the winning combo of hardware features. I'm most excited about the touch sensor, no more trackball nightmares! Nevermind the cool stuff that can be done with the projector.
3)I think you just need to be patient. You are on the bleeding edge of tech, it's going to take the community a little while to catch up esp considering the holiday season. All these wonderful programmers and ROM chefs have families too.
dude r u serious !!!
offcourse keep the lg iq ...
sooner or later there will be a port ..
wait until att release it...
2c
Keep the IQ and please do a rom dump of it quickly too! PM me and I can help you if you need. Thanks!
u might not get custom roms unless spocky12 plans to cook one.
either way, the snapdragon makes up for the sluggish WM.
u'll still be able to install apps made by the wonderful people here at xda.
i say keep the phone!
Once you have snapdragon, why go back to anything with less cpu...Keep it!

I'm actually waiting on mine too. I was told I should get it on Tuesday. I've read everything I can on the eXpo and that was what made me choose that over the Tilt2 (TP2). If anything just for the 1ghz processor. I'm using a Tilt right now with a sakajati hyperdragonIV Mega rom and it runs ...ok I guess. I'm running SPB mobile shell on top instead of manilla and it's running a lot faster. If the S-Class interface isn't to my liking (which I'm sure it will be) I'll probably just install the SPB mobile shell if I can. I'm sure it would look pretty sweet on the higher res screen.
Keep the Monaco. Like others have said before me, it's a great phone and more "goodies" will come out in (hopefully) not too long. It's so new here in the states that I can't even find accessories specifically for it. Not even a case. Hell I can't even find where I can buy the projector. I'd get that now if I could. lol (Cubicle movies at work lol )

Totally Jealous. I bought mine from amazon full price, they say I won't get it until at least the 23. Just ditched my G1, Android is crap IMHO. This will be my first WinMo phone and I'm looking forward to it. I'm new to this flashing thing but it looks like a lot of fun, I've allways held off getting a smart phone until the browsers improved and they certainly have come a long way recently. Looking forward to winmo7 and IE9.
Did this ROM get dumped yet?
I was going to go to the store and dump one of the phone's roms from there for MightyMike and Juggalo_X at PPCGeeks. If this guy is doing it then I'm sure Astain will pass it on to those two.
Trust me don't go back to a sluggish msm72xxx cause your going to regret it, just be patient rom cooking will come, probably in the coming months, so just keep it and try installing htc cabs on it.
If you really miss touchflo, look for throttlelauncher with a skin, its free and does the same thing, and is more customizable. Of course, the touchflo tweaks will not work for it

thanks for the tip...but as time goes on I am getting to like the S-class UI better and better!
This is a phone that was hard to like at first, but grows on you FAST!
I will jump in there and say I will be working for custom roms as soon as I get mine so damn I cant wait to get it... Hows the rom dump coming?
setimpson got some errors when he tried to dump it.
it may not function the same way as the htc phones.

Sub $100 tablets?

Hi everyone. I have a 4 year old who keeps taking my phone and my kids (his older brother and sister) ipod touches. He uses them to play games and go on youtube. I've been looking online for a cheap tablet for him to have and on craigslist there are a few for sale in my area for anywhere from $75-$100. I want to know if anyone has any experience with these cheaper android tabs. There's one by Sylvania and some others that just say ePad.
Does anyone have any experience with these and if so, do you think it will be ok for a 4 year old? Keep in mind, it doesn't have to be anything special. Just something that can play youtube and games like angry birds.
Any information is appreciated.

Well you'd probably be best googling the models and seeing if they are real. I had a friend who got a fake off ebay. They work alright. Not great for myself. But if they are a proper tablet I don't see you having any problem as long as its not a scam haha

Hmm just had a quick Google of the sylviana branded tablet you mentioned and from what I read it seems to function alright. Some are having problems but seems to be functional haha. Sorry if its what you already know

A scam on craigslist? Never.
Being serious though, I did do some searching on google and with the information I got it figured it would be better to come ask the experts. I really dont care about the software that's installed on these tabs as long as they can be rooted and/or have access to the android market. Its just more important to me that they run decently. They are not very expensive but it's still money and I would like to know what I'm getting into.

Hey,
I was recently setting up a home network for a co-worker and she "paid" me by giving me a White 7" Pandigital Novel "eReader". Its android based and from what I can tell it can be rooted and used as a low cost alternative to an Android tablet. They sell for as low as $100. I haven't decided what I'm going to do with my own since I just got a HTC Inspire 4G...
Guess I can try and hack it. I can let you know how well it takes being rooted.
Please do let me know. I would really appreciate it.

Hey,
Sorry for the delay but I got a little busy with school. I was able to sit down for a bit with the White Pan digital Novel and I must say I was impressed. Due to the extremely low cost and decent spec of this machine it has gotten a lot of love from developers. Its extremely easy to flash ROM's for root access (just place .ZIP on SDCARD, remove internal SD, boot to recovery, and flash it). The guys over at Slatedroid even put Cyanogenmod 6.x on it.
I tested a number of ROM's but most had weird issues. The Slatedriod Cyanogenmod 6.x ROM actually only ran crisp (for now) in landscape mode. Its a bit too weak to play games from Android Market and that's assuming the the ROM you choose has a working Market (most don't by default). They used a mod called the non-ugly hack to fix this I think. Another issue with a lot of these ROM's involved the wifi going into a infinite loop, repeatedly turning itself on and off. Despite the fact that I love Cyanogenmon on my Optimus V, I had to find another full time ROM.
That's when I stumbled across an Eclair-based ROM ported from teh popular Cruz Reader. It was awesome. Smooth in all view modes and even video ran great on the thing. I haven't attempted to OC the device yet, but I would assume it would only make it better. This ROM is rooted of course, and had a working Android Market (and Cruz Market) installed from the start. With this ROM the device becomes a comparable tablet, far exceeding the value placed on its tag. Just use regular apps to manage the power usage and overclock it with Set CPU or something and you'll have quite a machine for $50 something .
A big downside is that for an "eReader" the battery life was horrid, a little better than an android phone (and that's even with the stock ROM). You are going to have to hack this thing to get any decent performance out of it as the stock ROM is laggy. The rooting worked for fixing a lot of these issues.
Em still a bit unfamiliar with the rules on posting links to other forums here, so I wont. Let me know if you have any questions on need the links and we'll set up some sort of arrangement.
Thanks for that info. Gives me a lot to consider. I may end up getting one of those units.

Its getting busy in here :-)

Wow this area of the forum is getting busy, last week there was just a few of us, now the numbers are increasing fast. I knew this phone was going to be popular, just wait till the USA gets it too
Welcome new O3D owners.
Pete
i was just thinking the same i'm a member since yesterday but i followed this forum a few days before that and it's getting real busy awesome
mmm, when is supposed to be out in USA?
I guess we all just know a good phone when we see it.
Can't believe I was considering a Galaxy S2 or an HTC Sensation over my O3D. What was I thinking?!

Really dude, what were you thinking. Forget about the 3d, Optimus is still better than them. Tri-Dual and the Omap4 is the key
I noticed so excited when I purchased my LG because I'm not so sure whether it is true the right smartphone for me and if it gets the community it deserves. But what amazes me it goes fast because it is not yet available everywhere. I think there are still some great things to come
I'm very close to buying one.
My main concern is that the standard 2D 5MP camera is going to be rubbish up against the Galaxy S II. However, my software support fears have been alleviated by the fact CM7 has been confirmed.
I hear the 3D really is quite excellent.

well i started in this forum with my HTC Elfin, then Xperia X1, then Motorola Milestone, then Galaxy S, then Galaxy S2 (for two weeks) and now my journey ended with this masterpiece of a smartphone!
looking forward to flash and test and flash and so on

its so much more than just themes. there is deffo no malware protection. most manufacturers would probably describe it as malware!
cyanogenmod is a completely from the ground up customised version of android operating system designed for the power user with the intent of maximising the control over and performance of the raw hardware. it allows you to fully manage the settings and behaviours of your device to suit the way YOU like it.
i will honestly never buy another phone that does not have cyanogen available for it, its that good.
Things do seem to be picking up now in these forums which is nice to see.

well it's not that easy...
cyanogenmod is a opensource version of android.
normal customroms are basing on firmwares of the company.
cm7 not. its based on the officual code from google.
on the one side the programmers are able to change the code more easyer and deeper than the firmwares, on the other hand its harder to port cm7 to a new device with all the hardwaresupport.
and yes cm7 is always rooted
pros of cm7:
faster (not from the beginning on)
more funktions
cooler
cons of cm7:
at the beginning there are always bugs (due the different hardware)
some functions never work (for example tv-output of the galaxy s)
at the beginning batterydrain
so at the beginning the cm7-ports to a new device are buggy, slow, batterydraining and don't support the full hardware.
but after a lot of new releases it's really great! blazing fast, cooler, batterysaving and and and
Just got my P920 hope the amount of users will grow everyday

[Q] Any other kernels?

Well, I see ppl from XDA doesn't interesting so much in O3D. There are only two kernels at the moment: stock and Acurateam beta kernel which is pretty sh$$ty. I see noone want to compile the kernels, noone want to see how can we O/C O3D, or maybe someone want, but he doesn't know how? Write here you opinions
I got mine today.
Maybe this is all due to the fact it's a very recent phone and there aren't yet any developers with one of these.
Anyway, anxiously waiting for CM7 and better kernels.
I believe the reason is also because they're waiting for 2.3
I'm one ****ed up user definitely. The O3D doesn't feel like it is optimized with the so call full dual channels chipsets. The old Android 2.2 make it worse. The 3D is awesome, but using the camera in 3d modes and browsing 3d contents is sluggish. It is a huge frustration to turn on the 3d camera and switching between 3d video. When it is finally able to take the moment, it has already history.
If LG doesn't promise with the gingerbread in Oct, I will feel really ****ed up with LG phones. And even if they will, the flaws might not be fixed. I'm only putting high hope with cyanogenmod with everything working. I give it another 3 months, if nothing changed I will chuck this phone. I've experienced with few android phones, I've never feel so frustrated with a "high end' phone. It is not polished in many ways. My old HTC HD2 ported with Android had way better experience with this phone. This is freaking annoying to me now, and I'm feeling stupid of spending such money for a phone. I'm giving this phone 3 months time!
Sent from my LG-P920 using XDA App
from acurateam have worked and are working to bring something better than stock, we are not experts in modification of kernels for android (but we are working hard), we know that this device can take a lot of potential, and try to help with our work, some great developer soon appear, we are studying to improve O3D
With gingerbread longer possible improvements, froyo is simply
The phone itself is great, the biggest problem here is LG and their b*** s***.When I bought the phone I sold my SGS2 and the reason for that was 3D, I didnt expected it would be as fast as SGS2, but it is actually, it is a very nice device. The biggest problem is GB, LG promised it would be out in September, but than they release an update with a 3D converter (what is very nice actually), but doenst fix our performance problem. The problem here is not the device or developers, as I said before the problem here is Froyo and LG.
