I know its new but even phones like the GS2 and Sensation had things going on in the thread before they were out, could this phone be skipped by the devs and ignored which makes it a pointless phone to own what's your views.
Have you tried developing a 3D app etc? It's probably a lot harder for starters... It's not just a case of porting an app over like from the HTC HD to say a mini pro.
Give it a few weeks and I'm sure something will pop up

i don't mean 3D apps I mean roms with owning a Sensation and now a GS2 as well as this phone, the Android Development threads were beaming with things even before the phones had been released but there is little on this so far.

I will give it chance but weeks before the Sensation was released there was loads of interest in the Development section, test roms etc same with the GS2 but this one so far is pretty dead.
AFAIK, LG is not as popular "yet" as the 2 two pioneer brands...but it has great potentials...
I think the reason is the complexity behind the 3D part of this phone. After all, the main reason for getting this phone is for its 3D capability. Also, this is one of the first 3D phone around... so give it some time
Don't forget Samsung also had smae prb back when the "Galaxy" range come up.. the dev rom not really picked up before i9000 arrive.
Sure this phone will pick up once u see more on street, it is very early now ^^
There are also a lot of developers that are interested but can't get the phone yet.
We are getting Verizon LTE here this week, but we don't even have a date for any dual core Cortex-A9 phone yet.
wait till you see CM7 pops out at you.
Am sure almost all the good teams will be with it soon enough. LG could help too by releasing some stuff too.
I dont think this phone will lack interest of developers. Once it has been released in US, many things will change imo. The phone has great potential not only because of its 3D capabilities, but also because of the Tri-Dual tech and Omap4.
I am actually satisfied enough with root and chainfire nvidia drivers for tegra games. Omap4 is quite capable of playing high end games which are specifically designed for ANOTHER gpu. This gives me the thought of its potential that if there will be games specifically designed for omap4, it could be really really rocking.
As stated above wait for the US release, also when it comes to ROMs, this phone is hard, there where a few early leaks but nothing much and the hardware is completely new compared to others and that takes time as well to get to know, on the plus side TI shares code and are often very helpful to homebrew projects etc, on the downside 3D is also completely new to the ROM builders and that will take some time to learn etc.
Many of the phone that get builds before they are even out share most of the same hardware as other phones and so on, the LG Optimus 2X is just getting CM7 but still no stable build, not for lack of interest but for the fact that it's a new chipset and dual-core etc, if you are hoping for a ROM within the next few weeks you are going to be disappointed but if you are willing to give it 3-6 months you'll probably get some really neat stuff to put in your phone.
This phone has great potential. But currently it is still too "costy" for development purpose and too many "first" for the industry. So everything is from scratch. So far the only thing that I am able to stuff in this phone is the HTC IME (chinese) which I still couldn't find anything better.
Who whants to pay for developing sense 3.0 on Optimus 3d
yes i am willing to pay
Have to admit i do like sense myself and wouldnt mind it ported, The problem ive seen with sense 3 though is their are some graphic glitches that can be annoying not that this is a reason not to port.
I do not see many developers joining us unfortunately..perhaps the only reason that I will have to sell my mobile,I know there is no interest and I can not explain....
I am learning to dev when i do learn it i will port it for free so far i understand the basic structure of roms now i'll learn how to port hahaha it will be awhile though....
Reward offered
$150 donation goes to the first person to port Sense 3 without the usual graphics glitches!! Happy porting!!

You do realize that this phone is brand new, it will be released to the US market at Aug 21th and the release in many places has been very low key specially since Samsung has gone all out for the SGS2 release.
Also about devs, CyanogenMod is under development for the O3D and going pretty fast, most things are already working (including 3D, EGL etc) once CM is out giving developers more control of the system etc it will become much more attractive and it will also have a larger user base after the US release.
What kind of development do you really want?
CWM is working on the device, ROOTing is no problem, Custom ROMs will come in droves as CM is available and with CM chances of hacks like overclocking, 1080p 3D recording etc are high ans as for sense it's not unlikely that it will be ported but it will take time.
i could wip a quick dirrty port up for you lot to try, if you really want one that bad. but i will warn you i will not be testing it myself before hand,

Yes I agree with you but in the galaxy s2 forum there is great interest and this is reflected in the many roms that have now come up something which did not think to apply to the LG...perhaps the world do not have much confidence in the brand LG..do not know what else to guess, I'd bought the galaxy s2 despite the many good words that sound the phone was not to my taste and so sold it,And certainly do not regret it at all....sorry for my bad English...

*The "experimental" stereoscopic support is for use with red/blue glasses, not the O3D style of 3D.
I found that this app is WAY too resource-hungry too... even after installing from stock with no other user apps. Uninstalled

Asked them a while back about supporting the O3D and others and they said that it will become available once the phones are out.
Looks like they started with the red/blue glasses for debugging, adding O3D support should be easy once everything works in red/blue 3D.
Of course it is resource hungry, it runs in 3D, 2D is so old school.
Nobody seems to correct me, so I repeat:
Sense 3 after clean boot uses 700+ mb of ram.
O3D has 512mb of ram.

A(ported) Sense 3.0 custom ROM worked beautifully on my previous handset (HTC Desire), which I am sure does not have 1gb RAM... more like 576mb.
Come on devs... get amongst it! Only 6 more days til release in the US... then we should see some action
I believe it is time for another upgrade, i've been upgrading almost like every 2 months for the past 8 months or so.
- HTC Magic
- HTC Tattoo
- LG Optimus One
- Samsung Galaxy S
- LG Optimus 2X - Present
I've got a buyer of my LG 2X in my family, so i wont buy any device at it's full price.
So in my country i've got SGSII at 499€ or the Optimus 3D at 459€
Share your thoughts with me, is O3D worth it for 40€ less than the SGSII?
I'm starting to get sick of LG, and all of its *upgradeable* while not being upgraded. (officially OFC, i'm running latest miui now)
I originally got the sgs2 and had enough problems with it (overheating etc). Gave it back as DOA when it burnt a pixel on day10 and got the lg 3d. Don't regret it even for a minute. I like it more. It feels and IS fast and all that on 2.2 froyo. I guess it will be even better on 2.3. Got it to reach 3600+ quadrant and though benchmarks aren't everything it is really fast man. And all those without any overclocking at all and stock rom v10k. Though sgs2 heating problem is (reportedly) solved i wouldn't go anywhere near it again.nice colors on screen but really bad resollution when you zoom in on text for example, plus some colors appear glitched (see angry birds sky up close). Battery was lasting me as long as o3d does give or take half an hour difference and i am a really heavy user...(sometimes i charge twice a day)
Plus o3d feels nice in your hand and build quallity is great whilesgs2 felt like a piece of cheap plastic (which it really is)... hope i helped
4 me it's a very simple question, and has a very simple answer...
Do you like and want 3D sbs effects on your phone? yes= buy lgo3d
no= buy samsung sgs2
Thats basically my question, i believe that the SGSII is a better device, and i would only go to the 3D if i wanted 3D, since i don't the 3D technology today is going to revolucionize anything, is it worth?
Plus i think that asking this questions here, i will most likely be convinced by O3D people xD
What about updates? FFS this is October, ICS is almost launched! Why are we still using Froyo?! and please don't give me the "stability" answer, froyo is more stable simply because LG worked on Froyo and not on GB.
Software-wise i believe that Samsung is doing a greater job.

Hello,
If you can deal with its screen, sure SGS2 is a very good phone.
I couldn't deal with the crazy colors, so far from real ones. I can't bear to read Internet pages that are supposed to be white displayed in a pale blue...
Without this screen i would have go for it.
Here in France the O3D can be found new at 349€. So that's 150 less than SGS2. So it does make a difference.
And the feeling in hands for SGS 2 was not pleasant.
hmm, nice point webgelato...this might actually be the best argument in my own *personal* research of what is the best...
I seems that the main (and actually only serious) complaint about the SGSII is the weird way that the SAMOLED+ likes to treat colors... blueish tintings and yellow tints in some cases...
If i knew things what i know now then i would go with the sgs2. This fones specs are respectable but software is a nightmare. No real custom roms yet. I really get mad sometimes with this phone where simple things such as SMS typing turns a nightmare cause the keyboard acts out regardless the softkeyboard weather stock or installed one. And also you have to reboot the phone at least every week or so because is get really sluggish. As of today i wouldn't recommend this phone even if u want three d

I've come from the Optimus 2X running MIUI and I can honestly say I don't regret getting this phone for 1 minute, I do have to admit that this phone hasn't got the developers that the O2X has got and I do miss changing roms all the time but I think it will only be a matter of time before it has. I personally think that the sgs2 is a damn good phone but I just think it feels a little plastic and fragile where as the O3D feels a little more solid.
If you can put up with the lack of updates and developers for a while, I think this phone will then get a lot better...

Exactly!
No one has even tried to port anything for O3D yet. When I had my SonyEricsson X10 and we were stuck with Android 2.1 and a locked bootloader, developers managed to port awesome ROMs. We had a fully working MIUI Gingerbread and lots of Gingerbread ROMs.
But now with O3D, not even a buggy port! Nothing at all! Not even a massively buggy MIUI port to at least taste the MIUI on our phone.
And all the current Custom ROMs that say "LG stuff is removed" are lying. For example the AcuraTeam and King3D ROM have removed the Social+ widget but you can still see the Social+ settings in the Account settings menu.
SelfKANG2 is still so buggy and needs attention but there hasn't been an update for the past three weeks. Aremcee is mainly working on Optimus 2X and Optimus Black.
I regret that I didn't buy a Galaxy S II instead of O3D.
I would recommend you to stay with the 2X a while and then decide.
O3D is a stupid buy at the moment, but since Cyanogenmod is releasing their mod in a few weeks, O3D will be much better.
We have a dual core phone using Froyo. That's like saying we have a Lamborghini with a 1.0L engine.
Froyo doesn't support dual core like it is suppose too.
The O3D has a OMAP4 chip which today is probably the best chip ever for mobile phones and other devices.
We will be able to use Linux on our phones without any big portings since there is already stable releases for different linux distros for OMAP4.
I have a O3D but I'm still using my DHD. I didn't buy my O3D for the 3D function, i bought it for the dual core, the 4.3" screen and the OMAP4 chipset.

Am aware of the power of the TI chipset and it's awesomeness. I still think that LG sucks software-wise, and that everyone will be waiting impatiently for an outdated Android version GB. Thats my big downside for choosing LGO3D

That is the main reason for me choosing the O3D over the O2X mainly because of the bigger screen and the OMAP4 and of course aremcee saying thats its a damn good phone was the final thing that made me want to change.
hi,
What is better choice 3d or 2x? or where is better support....
lets see what ppl say about this....
2x has a bigger community, much more roms to choose from and is generally better supported. If you don't need 3D and you can live with a smaller screen and slightly lower performance you can buy 2x a fair bit cheaper than O3D. Also, LG confirmed that 2x will receive official ICS.
I think LG made the same commitment for the O3D regarding Ice Cream Sandwich, so that's no issue
I agree with the rest of your post though, if you want the latest and fastest and are interested in playing and recording 3D content, get the O3D. Otherwise, get the 2X which is cheaper and more supported by third parties, though I hope that with the update to Gingerbread starting to roll out more parties will be interested to make roms for the O3D.
Or wait and get a quadcore based phone next year
Besides hardware and specs... its a question of do you want your cake now or later? 2x has more roms and stuff but look at how much the O3D and Thrill forums are blowing up. Things are coming along here and soon we will have just as much as everyone else. Also I think most of the roms for this phone are pretty well put together. You might have a lot more rom choices right now on another phone but how many of them are even worth flashing? O3D and Thrill are just getting off the ground and have some pretty new tech in them and we already have a good amount of roms and now kernels are being brought out. We are going to be one of the first to get CM9 and once everything for this phone is figured out I am sure it will blow the 2x and many other phones away.

Optimus 2X has the Harmony Tegra2 Chipset.
There's NO support whatsoever from NVIDIA for that chipset.
There's NO open source drivers for that chipset.
There's serious doubts about the possibility of implementing ICS on Harmony without the binary blob from NVIDIA.
On the other hand, TI releases all their code for the OMAP platform.
It's an ideological reason, but for me (and for the medium/long-term implications) I choose the open option.
@Beriaru
Can I conclude from your post above that the Optimus 3D (aka P920) would be a better option due to having a more open source policy regarding the drivers?
I am having the same question as the OP of this thread. LG is giving 100 EUR mone back for buying this phone, which puts it at a very competitive price range.
I would like to ask if the P920 has:
1) Unlocked bootloader
2) Will it support ICS?
How is the battery life on it? I have an HD2 running NAND Android and I would like to know if it would be as good, better or worst in your opinion. (I understand it has to do with the way we use it, but for normal use (some phone calls, sms, music and light web surfing).
Thank you all for your help.

Good man, another one who came from the HD2 side! I also had an HD2 and was heavy into flashing and playing with it, running Android NAND most of the time, GB 2.3.7 so I think my opinion here is about the most accurate you might get.
If I use my O3D the same as I did the HD2 it would last pretty much the same, with light web surfing, chatting most of the day, a few phone call here and there. The HD2 had a much longer standby time though due to the ROM I was using having a 6ma draw when Idle. The optimus is not quite there yet.
So comparing the upgrade in hardware with a very slighly less battery life, I'd say the optimus sticks to the HD2 pretty well (battery life wise)
Here, have a look at the state of development of CM9 for O3D and O2X:
https://plus.google.com/115049428938715274412/posts/KycR8ZjeUiS
Thanks Willievi (+1) for that information. I am getting 4mah wit my current HD2 ROM, so I am quite pleased with that. I think that once this phone gets gingerbread and hopefully ICS the battery life (at least in standby) should be improved considerably.
Do you find it in any way slow, or are you reasonably happy with it?
@Beriaru
Thank you very much for that link to googleplus. It is always nice to see a fellow Portuguese (at least the name suggests that), is working on this phone.

Hi every1 first of all i want to say that 2 months ago i sold mine galaxy S I9000 and i had an option: Galaxy S2 or LG P920 unfortunatly i got LG and now everyday i'm *****ing and crying like a little sissy because there's no roms for that bull**** phone.
My girlfriend still has SGS and there is plenty ICS version for my phone nothing not even one.Everyday i'm checking LG P920 section and every morning i got mad because of it. Now i'm stuck with LG because i can't afford to buy SGS 2 .God damn
i don't know what to do with this .I like the size of the phone and omap inside but i have to sell it and go back to SGS.I wrote this thread just to let every1 know how LG f..k me up , i hate LG and this 3D bull**** , so have a good day to every1
lets go spamming lg facebooks and mails
couple week ago I have the same shoes as you, confuse between sgs2 and o3d.
before I choose I try the two of them.
and I know, my heart tell me that I love this 3D bullsh*t thing.
I need something more multimedia ++ haha...
I thing beside the 3D TV, device that suitable for 3D is on smartphone, yes.. just like our O3D...
btw,of course I'm not pleased with LG about the slow update.
but you know in this forum there is a lot of great developer that help me extend to remain patient..
Most of the devs said that when ics comes out they will start deving like mad but as i see it by the time lg release it our phones will become outdated. Then all the work will go into the newer 3d max and etc shame this phone was really good. But just the lack of development from lg killed it..

Yes, you are really crying like a sissy, and I don´t understand why you blame LG for this.
LG has A LOT of problems they can be blamed about, and the delay for ICS is definately a shame for LG, but otherwise, you can´t blame LG for "no ROMs". If you say the phone is ****ty because you can´t find "lots of custom ROMs" for it? Then you should blame XDA developers (or lack of), right?
I already said this in another thread: if your hobby is to flash a new ****ty and half-working ROM every morning, very well, go look for this elsewhere, the O3D is not the phone for you, really. But please remember that while we have just a few ROMs here, most of them are stable and usable, and this IS NOT the case of many other phone models, which have many ROMs available, but most of them experimental and completely broken.
If you guys really want to blame and spam someone, let´s join forces and spam arcee, not LG, because he´s the responsible for LG in CM, and if you check his G+ page, he did a dirty half-done job for the O3D and moved on for other LG phones. It´s clear he´s looking into QUANTITY (many ported phones) and not QUALITY. And the O3D DESERVES the best from arcee, we are talking about the flagship of the manufacturer he´s dedicated to in the CM project.

That is just ridiculous the O3D was the first CM9 rom arcee created on any LG device for reasons only he knows he has chosen not to release.
I suspect this is due to the usual b*ll**** he received on development of CM7. People requesting 3D compatibility which arcee stated from the very outset that this was never likely to work unless LG released their real 3D framework. A problem he does not face with other LG devices.
Can't blame him for releasing CM9 on other LG devices I ask you 1 question could you do what arcee does?
I blame myself for not doing my research on lg's reputation. I have and will hate HTC and Motorola.. never had a Samsung device I didn't like. Should have stuck to my guns but the hardware and dual channel ram tempted me too much.... my bad really...
PS. I flashed 20c kdz and installed thiaz 2.5 stock rom and I love my phone again. Highly recommended!!!
That's all I got to say bout that...
I flashed V20c and all was going well till today when my friends and family rang me all day and my phone did nothing and then when i finally called everyone said i was ignoring them...
I guess i need to buy the samsung galaxy s or the nexsus s out right and then use my sim i can't take this anymore and no i do not want to go to ****ty froyo baseband it sucks...
I'm in the same boat as Trekfan here. Try ThiaiZ's rom, he just released 2.6. use his kernel update as well. I also applied a ICS theme that doesnt' just give me icons, but dialer, texting, and everything on my phone to look like ICS (everything but the real deal). I have also deleted every useless application off my phone, and i now have upwards of 250mb free ram during regular use. phone is much faster, smoother, stable and not missed a call once.
i know there isn't as much development and action as the S2, but then again, the 3d didn't sell over 20 million units... we're not completely left in the dark. thanks ThiaiZ!
here try it out:

I think you're wrong mate. Perhaps there is no such as a ROM for the Galaxy S2, but here each ROM is very stable and reliable .... ALL Optimus 3d developers make excellent and stable ROMs, and excellent kernels, everybody can find what suits him ... ..
I have personally tried all ROMs , and I can say that all great and very very stable
I became a fan of the Thaiz ROMs, Thaiz currently using 2.6 with the ICS theme
I can tell the phone operate and behave perfectly, and that this should be when he left the factory....
Waaah waaah...no roms! Pathetic reason to hate on a manufacturer. LG aren't faultless but they cannot be blamed for the lack of custom roms can they? Maybe you should look a little closer to home - if you wanted a handset you could piss around with all day in that respect you should have tried some old fashioned research before purchasing.
Maybe you should start a "bye bye LG" thread when you exchange back to Samsung just to really let everyone know what you think eh?
Sent from my LG-P940 using xda premium
With all due respect give me a break please ,check sgs section how many great roms sgs has .All of'em are based on ICS and the phone is much weaker than P920.
I can't figure out why developers don't wanna mess with our phone. We don't even have decent themes ops my bad except one yeah just fu...ing one that's pathetic , i gotta sell that amazing phone and i swear no more LG for me
Everyone can create a theme using UOT, with a couple of clicks.
Then it's just a matter of selecting a theme for your launcher.
It's not LG's fault this phone is expensive and therefore with a much smaller userbase than any other 100€ phone.
Great phone, negligent manufacturer
Before buying it, I already knew that I was going to have loads of problems with updating, LG is not what I call 'reliable'. But I still chose it because its a smartphone with great specs, large screens (IPS, much better than the heated Super AMOLED Plus that did not deliver a great experiences, with yellowish stais and bluish whites, nor Atrix's grayish and dark screen with the pentile martix, my second choice, just staying behind LG's NOVA, which is outstandig), tri -dual technology and 3D, the one that besides HTC's EVO we havent seen before. But the developers surprised me where LG disappointed. Right now I'm on ThiaiZ 2.6, with ICS theme (kept Prada launcher), and removed system apps, like kylereid's suggestion - and using a 20b brazillian baseband used to remove ghost calls problems on thrill, and I've experienced no problems since flashing it. It's perfect - for gingerbread. I am too craving for ICS, and LG did release real3d source code, I guess: developer . lgmobile . com/real3d
ICS update should've been released already, Jelly Bean has already been announced and we'll have official ICS by the end of agust, its too much.
I love the O3D but LG has screwed it up.
well, same history here bros.
-i had the i9000 before, i like it and the communty that support it so much, but it's getting old, so i decided to get something dual-core, bigger and faster.
-bought my girl the SGS2 beforce, we are extremely love it, fast, vivid, light and big big big actively communty, i decided to get me the LG 3D( because of 3D, and we do have SGS2 already), and i must say - this decision is my BIGGEST MISTAKE OF THE YEAR
-the 3D is not as fast as the S2, free ram is too small, cant heavy multitasking on it, battery life is terrible, and of course, GHOST CALLS, my boss, my clients and even my family and my girl started hating me because i didnt answer their calls, when i want to open the camera, it will take 3 seconds or more until the interface appears ect..ect... im too tired and fruscating of it, so i took out the sim and use it as a mp3-player..
-finally i managed to get rid off it, just sold the optimus 3D and bought the moto Atrix 2
huge huge huge differences i must say, there are over 910 MB of RAM here, install all things, open tons of apps but phone still smooth, never go under 150MB free ram (sorry but smooth like iphone 4s, even the animations are very nice) .
while both of the phone have TI 4430 SoC but in the atrix 2 apps open instantly (my op3D opened opera mobile in 2-3 second, but the atrix 2 opens it in 0.5 sec, and never auto close unless i turn off the phone or force-close), camera app opens in about 1 sec ect.......
Im not trolling in this thread, but well, you should avoid LG, and go for other brand (like samsung with the S2, moto with atrix 2, RAZR), LG is good at making TVs but not smartphone..
sorry for my bad english thought.

You guess cause they haven't... It is just the real3d sdk platform that allows devs to create 3d app USING the real 3d framework which is not released as of yet. It is stil proprietary. I querried at lg.opensource and what they said is that they have no immediate plans to release the damn thing. If you think that they DID have immediate plans to release ICS since December and they SAY they will release in summer when they will actually release it in fall if it goes like GB, then you can imagine when and IF they will ever release the real3d framework...
Never man its the goldmine of LG
Ilove my 3D phone

My mistake, so whats left is hoping Ricardo Cerqueira is still working on cm9 and using dual boot with gb in order to still have access to the 3d stuff. LG could at least release the 3d framework since theyre not willing to release ics anytime soon. Not surprinsing though, its not like LG hasn't disappointed its costumers before.
