Hello folks,
I have a HTC Desire.
3 weeks ago I decided to explore the world of roms and roots.
So I rooted my HTC and after a week or so I installed Leedroid 2.4. (with app2sd) (without a factory reset)
When I did that I got a few more programs on my mobile eg.: CIFS manager, Homescreen Changer, a launcher and some more. So inside the rom were some apps I didn't had before.
So far so good.
Today I decided to wipe my Google test account and create one I'll like to use in the future.
These are the steps I followed:
Booting the phone in recovery mode (I took out the sc card)
I did a factory reset
I wiped all data from the sd card on my pc (except the Leedroid rom zip file for clockwork and some music)
put the sd card back in the phone
Booting the phone in recovery mode
installing Leedroid 3.0.8.2 (clockwork , install from zip)
After a some time all was done.
I have to say that my sd card has an ext3 partition of 512mb and the rest of the 4g card is fat32 formatted.
I was well aware that I wiped everything on my phone. I was planned.
But I was surprised when everything was done:
when I installed Leedroid 2.4 it took a long time installing
when I installed Leedroid 3.0 it took a short time installing
Also: I don't have the apps mentioned above when installing Leedroid 2.4.
Is this a very common thing and do I have to install those apps by myself and still it doesn't affect my upgrading?
Maybe this is very normal but it surprises me a lot.
Thanks for reading

I have bought a new 16gb Kingston SD card. I partitioned it 11GB FAT32 and the remainigng ext4.
I rooted my HTC Desire, wiped it, installed StarBurst and then installed Data2SD. So far so good. The phone booted back up and all seemed well but accessing apps was slow. I then tried downloading an application from the market and got the error "Sorry, there is not enough space to install this application".
I checked and my SD card is showing 11gb free space and my internal memory is showing 3gb.
Has anyone seen this problem?
Many Thanks
Formatted both partitions and reinstalled Staburst Lite 1.2.0 and getting same error. As the phone recognises there is space, could there be a permissions problem?
When you flash Starburst, it sets the permissions just before it finishes the install. You're ROM might be bad, you should try downloading the full one. Doing a factory reset. Flashing the ROM. Then rebooting and flashing the App2SD install and reboot again. Hopefully things work out for you. I'm having problems with Starburst too.
I completely wiped and reformatted SD partitions, downloaded the lite ROM (had tried standard) and installed that. Same problems, the phone seen the 3gb internal memory but I couldnt install apps. It did however download the update for google maps and install that automatically. Even after that if I tried getting anything from the market I got the no space error.
When I had the standard ROM installed, I evntually tried the fix permissions button in ROM manager. It did 170ish tasks but didnt fix the problem. This was my first attempt at flashing my Desire. I have learnt a fair bit already about it and done plenty of googling and reading.
I have installed Oxygen for now but would like to get starburst working to try out this performance boost it boasts.
Ok, I gave StarBurst another go, reduced my ext4 partition down to 1gb from 3.x gb and it works now. Maybe a restriction to what size it can work with.
Hi,
I just flash ARHD 4.1.6 w/ Bricked v1.5 and everything is working great. I just have a few questions I hope could be answered.
1) I would like to put the advanced power menu and CRT animation mod on the phone. Are either of these able to be flashed with the 4.1.6 ROM? The second post in the ARHD thread says they are for 3.6 only.
2) I had a bunch of apps installed to my SD and now they no longer appear in the app menu (I still see their data on the SD Card). Does this happen on every rom flash, or just when I use Super Wipe.
3) Is there a way to reinstall the apps which are already on my SD Card?
4) I made a nandriod backup with CWM a long time ago to use as a fall back. The ARHD installation put ext4 on my phone in its place. Am I able to use the CWM backup with ext4 should I need to?
Thanks for your help!
1. There should bee a section off add ons for 4.x ROMs
2. Why are they on the SD card?
3. Reinstall from the Market
4. Doesn't matter, it'll work regardless

Hi,
In answer to your questions:
1) Here is the thread for the CRT animation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18478212&postcount=25006
Here is the one for the APM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18411950&postcount=24612
2) Flashing superwipe erase all user data, if you didn't do a Titanium backup, you will need to install them again from the market.
3) I don't think there is a way to reinstall without Titanium.
4) Yes, you should be able to restore the CWM backup with ext4, I have done it and it works fine.
Hope this helps.
Thanks!!
Flashed both and they work great.
I read about the titainium backup in the newb guides and totally forgot about it. Silly beginers mistake.
Thanks I'm looking for this one too
Hi guys, first post from me. I wish i could post this in the proper thread, but since i am new i am not allowed, so excuse me for the inconvenience.
I want to use custom roms to enhance my phone, i've been reading up in this forum and some video's on youtube. I've already rooted my phone before, so that part is out of the way.
Now here is my phone setup:
- Samsung Galaxy S Plus
fw= 2.3.5
baseband= I9001BOKP1
kernel= [email protected]#1
build= GINGERBREAD.BOK4
carrier= T-Mobile
- External SD Card, 486 MB
I just used the SD Card from my old Samsung phone (G-600)
The thing is, i have used Apps2SD to set apps to my SD card (the external one)
1.A: So if i am going to backup will that also be stored back to my SD after i format it?
1.B: Or is external SD card formatting not required for a fresh clean install?
The ROM i want to use is Cranium RC9
As i understand this ROM comes with a kernel as well, so..
2: should i do anything kernel related? (since it's my first time to install a ROM and all)
And finally..
3: What is the correct method for a 1st time/clean ROM installation?
If i look at the 1st post of the Cranium ROM thread, then i see install methods if you already have RC8. And the other method is for installing RC4. Please don't tell me i have to go through all the RC's to get to RC9 o_0
Thanks for at least reading this and hopefully some one can help me further on this
1.A When you backup, choose internal SD since backup has about 1GB of size if you have lots of apps. Go to feamod recovery 1.4, backup and restore then backup to internal sd card. When you finish ROM flashing restore your apps only in advanced restore.
1.B I don't think you have to format external sd, anyway you can back it up too.
2. I don't think so. The rom comes with a kernel..
3. For fresh ROM installation, Format system, data, and cache. You can also wipe dalvik cache. Then flash using ODIN or CWM, depending on the file. Reboot system and you can restore data only after going to cwm again.
You can also read fabsau's starter guide in our forum(i9001)..
In my opinion, try broodROM, comes with skyhigh kernel, ICS theme, beats audio, smoother scrolling and more..

Thanks this was helpful to me
ok, so my TF101 is rooted and i had Android revolution 3.4.2 installed, i wanted to update to the newer Android revolution 3.5.0, i downloaded both the rom file and super-wipe full and placed them on my memory card. I then ran super wipe and started flashing my new rom, however when i did it said cannot open (bad). Now i cant get any further than the splash screen because i have no rom. I CAN boot to CWM 5.8.3.4 however it will no allow me to either
1.) mount my sd card to get a new rom installed, or
2.) when i put my TF101 memory card in my phone and then put the rom on it, the changes are not there after i put the card back in my TF101. It seems to have the same information for the files on my card as when i originally messed up.
Ive tried rebooting to recovery multiple times, i have even tried a different memory card, however CWM always shows me the same list of files.
Im really at a loss here and i would love some help. someone please give me some advice on what to do here.
fixed
Mods can feel free to close this, after much trial and error i finally for adb working and managed to push a new rom image and recovery to my memory card. I am now up and running
Ok heres the story (its not too long don't worry)-
But I URGENTLY need help to fix it please please.
I have an LG GT 540.
I got it 2months ago, and it came as factory standard, and on LG's android 1.6 operating system (so unusable basically).
Over the 2months I managed to upgrade it to a Cyanogen 4.2.1 custom rom, managed to learn how to partition my SD card into fat32 & ext2 and then installed Mounts2sd and used it to freeup space on phone.
(The phone comes with only 138mb storage, so is unusable without mounts2sd quite simply).
The phone was constantly freezingup everytime I tried to load any app ever,
but after clicking the 'Fix Permissions' tab in the recovery menu, it was all working fine and everything was working fine.
HOWEVER as 1 thing wasn't working on an app I love, and re-installing the app didn't fix the issue, I decided to wipe the whole phone, reinstall the ROM and try re-installing the app then.
But when trying to clear and wipe everything from the phone, in addition to clicking data wipe/cache wipe/dalvik cache wipe, I also clicked on the buttons saying ''Format system / Format SDcard / Format sd-ext''.
When I tried to reboot phone it was bricked, as had no boot screen logo, just was plain dark screen.
I fixed this by removing sd card from phone, putting it into laptop, placing the Cyanogen 4.2.1 rom file directly onto the sdcard, placing sd back into phone, rebooting into recovery menu, and then re-installing the ROM from the sd card.
However I now have a massive issue in that whilst the phone will now work without Mounts2sd installed (well it works but I cant install any apps as no space to do that),
As soon as I install Mounts2sd on the phone and try to use it, whilst it does freeup the memory its meant to, it totally mucksup the entire phone by making every app freeze, making phone not turn off straight away when clicked to... ect
I have removed sdcard, re-partitioned it on my laptop into Fat32 & Ext2, re-installed the ROM multiple times, and then re-installed mounts2sd on the fresh rom and tried to use it,
But everytime I try it just screwsup the phone and makes all the apps and everything on the phone freeze!!
Ive now wiped all data/cache/dalvik,
re-flashed that cyanogen rom onto the phone again (mustve done that 50x now in last 2months),
and am about to try formatting the sd card again on my laptop, then re-partitioning it to Fat32 & Ext2.
But before I re-install Mounts2sd and get the exact same issue all over again,
please please can someone tell me how I can fix this or what im doing wrong??
And so how exactly I can install Mounts2sd back onto my phone again, but without it messingup the whole phone and making everything on it freeze?
Thankyou soooo much inadvance
