Hi,
i just noticed that the default HTC Email app on the sensation, in all its awesomeness, doesn't push emails to my device. it refreshes every 5 minutes or so.
is there any way to push emails ?
Im using a gmail account.
thanks
Turn your google mail sync off then back on again, and ensure your sync is always running, that is as best push you will get.
Pushmail doesn't work on WIFi for me with the stock apps.
I use Advanced Email. Very good app and you can also access folders which i have set up on hotmail

Where can I get this? You mentioned it once in one of my threads, and I've been trying to get it, but it's not on the market and Google didn't help me either.
so there is no way to get push emails on the default HTC app?
SOLVED.
I created a microsoft Exchange account with my gmail address and now emails are pushed!
thanks
You can also get hotmail emails pushed What you do is create a new Exchange/Active sync account. put in your hotmail address and password and click manual set up. Then in the username field make sure it's your full email address. in the server field type m.hotmail.com (even if it's a @live account) and you will be able to get your hotmail pushed. My school uses live mail for it's student mail and I get push email for that as well using the same method.
for yahoo there is a yahoo mail app that pushes your yahoo mail just like the gmail app.
Sorry mate its Enhanced Email, stupid predictive text

Yea it seems gmail never fails to give me my email notifications right on time, right when I receive mail I get a notification no more then 2 minutes later. But yahoo seems to never update and I get my email like 30 min to a hour later. So this must be droid telling me if I don't have gmail I won't get my notifications on time. Very bias of the android OS. And it sends nobody has a sure
fix for thus as I have searched the forums and have used k9 as well it all fails.

Both GMail and Exchange mail support the feature called Push Email -- it pushes into your phone's inbox as soon as the mail server receives the email.
How do you setup your Yahoo email? I guess you used the POP3 email access which is pretty dumb and doesn't support push email (your phone has to check the mail server every so often to see if there is mail there.
There should be a Yahoo mail app created by Yahoo that also supports push email. You have to use that app in order to get the push email from Yahoo.
Hotmail now also supports push email via Exchange email support. So, no new email app needed.
I have one of my yahoo accounts set up on the yahoo app, but it only allows for one account as far as I know

Then, call Yahoo and ask them to support multiple accounts. Yahoo, Gmail and hotmail all use properitary protocols for their email in addition to support the old POP3 protocol. Gmail and Hotmail have the added advantage of supporting Exchange ActiveSync. So, in order to take advantage of advanced feature like push email, you will need the native client from the respective email provider or use Exchange ActiveSync if there is support for it. It is not any kind of bais in Andriod OS. It is the fault of Yahoo falling way behind the technology curve. POP3 protocol is created like 20 to 30 years ago. Back then, emails often take days to reach the destination.
BTW, the phone's built-in email client only supports 2 Exchange accounts max. I know Gmail client supports multiple gmail accounts as well but not sure how many accounts it can support.
Yahoo does have an app, whether it's any good is a different story. I have tried both, the email app and the messenger app and they are very laggy, almost rendering the phone useless. Then again ymmv
if i go into emails it downloads them no problem, next time i go into emails it deletes the ones already there, yet i don't receive these emails on my PC either .Why is it deleting them and is there any way to stop it
Are you using the GMail client or the other one ("Email")?
If the latter, are you using POP/IMAP, or Exchange? If it's not Exchange, I'd suggest you embrace your GMail account - you can configure it to collect email from other accounts - and use the GMail app. This has the extra advantages that you have a central contacts list, and can view your emails on any computer with a browser too.
use the other email and its a pop account ,so are you saying use g mail and set up my pop account on there, already have my g mail account set up on the email appr
There is most likely a setting to remove the mail off the server when you pull it into the app, thus deleting it off your regular mail server, and why you aren't seeing it on your pc. I'd poke around the settings a bunch and see what is up.

I set up a few POP accounts in the appropriate client, but I think the only 'delete/remove from server' option was only when emails were deleted locally. I'm not sure about the default behavior - whether it is 'download and remove from server' or just 'download a copy and leave on server'.
checking in the client settings, it's under Incoming Settings, and the options are only
"Delete email from server -"
and the two options are 'When I delete from Inbox' or 'never'.
That tells me the client should NOT be removing/deleting emails from the server except possibly when you delete a mail from the inbox. IIRC, the default setting was 'never'.
Combat, do you perhaps have a client running on a computer somewhere that may be periodically checking and removing the mail from the server? This is a common thing with email servers - someone leaves an email program running on a computer which is set to download and remove mail from the server... then the mail doesn't show up on their phone.
Incoming setting were set as never delete mail from server so unchecked it and rechecked it again ill see what happens

There's probably a setting in the Email app for leaving mail on the server, but personally I get my GMail account to pick up mail for all my POP accounts.
You can configure GMail (through the web interface) so that you can send emails out as if from your other accounts too.
For example, if someone emails me at [email protected] then it gets picked up by my Gmail account. If I then hit reply, GMail will use [email protected] as the 'from' address. If I reply to an email sent to my gmail.com address, the reply will come from my gmail.com address.
So you don't have to mess around with 2 different apps, you have all your email in one place, accessible from anywhere, with a single contacts list. Win/Win.
Hi
Is there anyway to speed the time the mail is sent to the phone from the time it is received by the service provider (that is like Hotmail or POP)
i have found it takes 30mins or more sometimes for the mail to reach my phone and it has been received by hotmail.
can anyone give me some advice on how to make this time shorter.
i am running RCMix3D Runny v3.3 on my inspire 4G

Most e-mail clients allow to adjust how often it queries the e-mail servers. It sounds like your client is using the default setting of 30 minutes or something. You'll have to go into the settings and adjust the "Check for e-mail every x minutes" setting.
If you want to receive Hotmail in realtime, you'll have to use the official Hotmail app in the Market.
X2 on the hotmail app, it works great. Also I found with the stock mail app when you delete messages it won't delete them off the server, the hotmail app does it instantly

How do you have hotmail setup? I have it setup as an exchange account in the default mail app and everything works instantly (receiving messages, deleting messages (which are also deleted from server), etc). I usually have it set to only sync every 15 minutes to save battery, but when set to push it works instantly.
server address: m.hotmail.com
username: full email address
Server requires SSL
This is what I have done and it is working great. Go to your email provider (Hotmail, POP3, whatever it may be) and set it to forward all your emails to your Gmail address (you do have a Gmail address, right?). Use the Gmail app on you phone and your emails will get pushed to you instantly. You can also set your Gmail account to use your other email address for replies and forwards, so it looks like it's coming from the original address and not Gmail.
Thanks for the excellent info people i really didnot know there was a hotmail app. but it was setup for every 30 minis. i have changed it to 5 mins cause thats the lowest i saw. i also want to find out about the the download messages which is set to 200. does this mean that the phone will only download 200 messages "per day"?
1 last final question which i am curious about. i have other folders created in my hotmail such as sent and drafts etc. usual folders is it possible to sync these folders with my phone inorder that my hotmail account will be in sync with my phone.
sometimes i use my computer to send out mails as well as my phone. but i cant sync the sent folder. please bear in mind i have not installed the hotmail app.
however i will try it as soon as i am finished sending this post.
thanks again people for your kind support.

You can try playing around with the settings in Gmail. I know they have fileters that you can set. I haven't tried it personally but I imagine you could set it to put the emails you forward from your other accounts into specific folders.
Try out K-9 off the Android Market
You'll never turn back. Fully customizable (potentially overwhelming).

Create a filter in Gmail for your hotmail account and add a label named "hotmail", then forward to your Gmail account. Check sync "hotmail" folder in Gmail app. settings

Is there a way to setup push email with Yahoo with this phone. I am coming from an iPhone 4S where it was able to setup as push, but when I setup my Yahoo mail it didnt have a push option. Is there a manual setup I have to do?
Yahoo mail actually has a really nice app that does notifications.

All my Yahoo email accounts have push. Make sure you select "Add as Premium Account." This will make it part of the Samsung Social Hub, but you don't have to use that app. This simply enables the account to have extra (push) features.
Also, after adding and syncing your account, go into email settings and at the bottom you can configure the sync schedule. I think by default push is turned off for non-peak times.
The best thing is to run the Y! Mail app from the Market. It takes care of everything.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I decided to download the Yahoo mail app
I'd like to get a pop email client that will:
1. pull ALL of my email from a server the first time I use it (after that, of course, it just pulls the new stuff).
2. pull ALL the contents and attachments right away, not just the headers.
Is there anything out there? I have tried K9mail, but it's really hard to work with, and doesn't show an option to delete mail automatically after I download it. I've tried Maildroid, but it appears to only download the headers, and then I have to download the contents when I open the individual emails.
And the stock HTC email client doesn't do this?
I use the Gmail app and have set up my Comcast.net email to forward to my Gmail address (Comcast is POP3) since Gmail pushes email instantly to my phone. I have also set Gmail to use my Comcast address for sending mail, so it's actually going through Gmail but people receiving it see it as Comcast. Has worked great for me.
MailDroid best email app out there. Good Dev. Very flexible client.

What this guy said. GMail is probably your best option. I'm not sure if the others have push, but I love the push notifications.
Have a look at Enhanced Email.
K-9 Mail is pretty good. I found MailDroid the best for exchange server emails for my work emails.
