Tracking is off
I've been using the app for a few weeks and it works super! The only issue I found is that when I go running with two friends in the forest and each one has GPS, my results (KM) are more then one kilometer off from the rest. I don't know if this is a problem with my sensation but it's not handy.

i've had endomondo across three devices (one blackberry, two androids including sensation). they all seemed to have a bit of a difference in distance measurement (i compared the distances of my morning bike commute which is always the same).

Phone's GPS isnt that fast in getting the location so when you ride your bike in a curve, the phone would just "connect the dots" and losing some distance. I have used Endomondo on a 250km ride and it showed just 205km, but my friends and mine cyclocomputer showed the correct distance.

Wireless tether range

I just walked about half a football field or more away from my phone with wireless tether(barnacle) turned on and got signal the whole way pulling 700kbps+ down on my iPod touch. Is this normal? Cus I can walk 2 rooms over in my house and lose wifi on my laptop on home network.

Being in a wide open field is a lot different than house. Your walls could have insulation, wiring and other materials that interfere with a WiFi signal.

lol jesus thats still a ridiculously long way
did you happen to have pringles for lunch?

Just for my own amusement I went and tried this and it worked for me as well. That's pretty damn awesome.

I know right, I was shocked at the distance. Wasn't wide open field either phone was in dumptruck at work and had a couple dumptrucks between me and phone when testing this. The trucks definately interfered with signal when I stood right next to them.

Anyone having GPS trouble?

I picked up my sensation today and I cant get an accurate GPS location. It tells me im a few blocks away even with WI-FI on.
Anyone else experience this?
Yeah mate, same here, my gps is stoned! I'm in France for work and last night I couldnt get my phone to tell me so! He thought I was in London.
I'm tempted to do a factory reset its so bad. I can't even navigate, it keeps loosing me.
Hope htc will addresses this in a firmware update.

This is my fourth Android device, and it certainly has something wrong with the GPS. I agree... It is getting a good satellite fix, but sometimes the location is off by several hundred feet - way beyond typical GPS errors.

My GPS seems to be working well. Or at least as well as my Nexus One and iPhone 4. (That's in Hong Kong and South China).
Mine works fine.

Dang (to put it mildly).
This is not the thread I wanted to see. I was out walking in NY yesterday and my Galaxy S again had me a block from my real location, with the compass spinning like a top. Few things piss me off at a phone more than flaky GPS when I really need it to work. I'm so hoping the Sensation will resolve this problem.
Please let these reports be some tiny minority, and fixable.
I drove in to work today (from Brooklyn to Manhattan), with the intention of testing the Sensation's GPS. The phone instantly picked up my location (GPS only, "use wireless networks" unchecked), and had the accuracy down to "within 50 feet" in a few seconds. During the drive, the only time it lost connection was when I was in the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel. I found the GPS performance identical to the MT4G, which was excellent. Plain and simple, the Sensation's GPS capability works as it should.
My gps works flawlessly...it's just you dude LOL no firmware update needed

I get nearly instant and incredibly accurate GPS lock, even inside my downtown apartment with tall buildings all around..even the compass feature is accurate indoors

Mine is flawless. I never have time to click "my location" in google maps it's so fast.
Looks like it's great for Yanks. Or maybe the T-Mobile version has better GPS? Pure speculation... just throwing it out there.

After a factory reset, it seems to pick it up a lot better. I'll have to test while driving.
I have been dependent on GPS for years! Lol

My gps has had problems also. What I did was just turn off the phone and switch it back on. That has solved my gps problem.

I'm gonna replace it. I cant get any kind on signal with just GPS satellites and not from wireless networks.
Its really sad too because besides the gps this phone is flawless.
After having the Samsung Vibrant and all its gps woes I almost cried when it found me so fast within, seriously, like 10 feet of where I was standing in my house.
It's definitely a hardware issue. I'm about to replace it, ill update the post soon

Just got my phone and tested the GPS. It picked up my location (with no mobile data enabled) in about 15 seconds. That was outside though, I couldn't get any GPS signal while was inside the house, and GPS test app located only 1 satellite, too... My dell streak finds like 17 of them when I search =(.
My new phone is better but not as good as my G2. Navigation is exceptional.

My gps is kinda ****ty. I use My Tracks multiple times a day while riding my motorcycle. Ever since I got this phone it stops recording partway through my 20 minute commute.
I really hope its an easy fix. I love this phone so far but this is really a deal breaker. I use GPS a lot.

[Q] Best IM App

I am curious what IM app people are having success with on their Sensation. I have used Trillian in the past but even with C2DM active I am loosing about 9% of battery per hour. I never had this issue with other phones. This I am curious what IM apps you have been successfully using that do not eat battery life. It needs to support AIM and Facebook.
Thanks!
Try Ebuddy.... i havent used it on Sensation as of yet... but on my DHD, it worked perfectly...and about draining battery... well the smartphones have oversmart batteries.... it used to drain everytime.. dont know if it was ebuddy or Whats App... but for sure it was HTC HUB and Friend's stream
I use the IM+ free and work great, dont have the battery problem, because you have the notification mode and when you go out of IM+ you have still the mesage....

imo.im - Doesn't drain battery to me, and no silly account registrations.
Trillian!! have used it for computer for years, great on android as well.
I say imo. Very stable and battery drain is minimal

beejive is pricey, but it's great and uses push notifications to save juice.
Hey, for those who uses trillian, any idea how to "reset" the groups? It seems that it is not following the groups i have within msn, and using its own contacts grouping system.
Use Trillian. It's IMHO best on Android.

I'm not sure, but maybe you need to delete your contacts in Astra (I'm taking no guarantee in this). They should reload.
imo is great, but which one you have decided to use?
Trillian best bar none.

For me too. I only need MSN. Tried Mercury, but it didn't really convince me. IM+ looks way more professional. Stay away from that eBuddy bull**** - I gave it a chance, but first thing it does, asks you to register an account with them. Holy ****!
Im+ for me too

I use Trillian, and I don't have any battery drain issues. Actually today my battery went 5 hours at 100% battery lol, I thought it was broken until it finally start decreasing.
Trillian also works very well for me!

[CM 10.1] - Inaccurate GPS

I've been running the 10.1 nightly for a while now, and I'm pretty sure this problem has been present all along. I just haven't gotten around to posting about it.
Basically, my phone is just bad at pinpointing my location using Maps or any other app. It will hone in on a fairly large circle of maybe 10 blocks, but can't get any more precise than that. I don't remember ever seeing this issue before flashing 10.1, and was just wondering if this is a known issue or if there are any fixes.
Everything else with the phone works just fine.
Sounds like it's only using cell towers to pinpoint your location. I'm assuming GPS is actually turned on? You can try an app from the market called faster GPS to nominate what region you're in, that might help.

Navigation whilst offline?

Hi,
I'm currently in Paris and thought I was a well prepared by creating a list of saved places, and downloading the entire city to use offline in maps
The problem is, the actual navigation/find directions part doesn't seem to work without an Internet connection - I can still browse the map etc but I have no way of finding out how far away places are, or the best way of getting there
Also, my GPS took almost 30 minutes before finding my location
Any suggestions please? In florida last year I used my iPhone offline constantly for driving directions etc and it was perfect, is there anyway I can do something similar on my Android please?
Thanks!
Navfree.
Works a treat
