Navigation whilst offline? - Android Apps and Games

Hi,
I'm currently in Paris and thought I was a well prepared by creating a list of saved places, and downloading the entire city to use offline in maps
The problem is, the actual navigation/find directions part doesn't seem to work without an Internet connection - I can still browse the map etc but I have no way of finding out how far away places are, or the best way of getting there
Also, my GPS took almost 30 minutes before finding my location
Any suggestions please? In florida last year I used my iPhone offline constantly for driving directions etc and it was perfect, is there anyway I can do something similar on my Android please?
Thanks!

Navfree.
Works a treat

Fake GPS for MLB At Bat?

When I had an iPhone *shudders* I was able to fake my location and watch my actual team's home games without dealing with black out restrictions.
I've tried Fake GPS and Location Spoofer but At Bat seems to bypass it somehow. Does anyone know a way to truly fake your location to watch these home games? I'm sure something as simple as this with an amazing dev community is easy to get past...
Thanks!
unfortunately, I am not sure. Perhaps they read your area code? Have you tried using it out of your state to see if it worked?
Out of curiosity, what phone are you using?

Using the Thunderbolt. I know MLB goes by this for Blackouts, so I usually set it to like Wyoming to watch teams on East Coast.

Give navigon a try, its free for australian users, but if you look through this forum you'll see ways to get it working elsewhere, or you can pay for it in the market.its not pretty but does a good job and full offline mode.

..Only downloaded sections, and up to 10 miles per area.
To the OP, Sygic Aura and CoPilot are great.
So download the parts you need. Derp.
If you need to be entirely offline then use copilot live. I use it for work and it is great.

I Need a good GPS navigator app

I am looking for a good and reliable app that i can use for outdoor use on my phone. I know that the GPS on these phones are not the best, but i spend alot of time fishing, hiking, camping, and off-roading.
It would be really nice to have a quality map/GPS app that I can use when out of cell service area. I was wondering if anyone had used some from the market, and could recomend some places to start. I'm not cheep so a paid version isn't out of the question, but I woundn't mind a free version to see if it works first.
I have tried Google maps, and pre-catched the map thru their labs, but i never seem to be able to get lock on device thru that app when out of data area. I've looked at alot of the app's in the market with reference to hiking and navigation, but there are so many! If there is anyone that has used some of these apps plz let me know!
Honestly you're probably better off just getting yourself a decent gps system such as a garmin.

Try using gps aids and applying the fixes through it, should help immensely with locks. Other than that don't know which gps app is best, probably that navigon one for general navigation but based on more wilderness /non road use I'm of no help

Gps question? How do I get it to work?

I am running VB FB Edition and one thing I have noticed is that my Gps does not work. I would like to use the navigation feature but it seems never to get a lock on. There is many apps in the market that say they fix Gps issues. But what does everyone use to get Gps working? Can some advise me? Thanks for all your input.

Somewhere within the VB black thread I think the apk for angrygps is posted. That was suggested for a while to fix the gps issues.
I have not read anybody else with gps problems on FB's VB. You may need to reflash, or clear caches and fix permissions.
Ok I found my issue under development for some reason I had enabled mock gps location enabled. What is that feature for?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
It can enable you to set a different location from where you actually are. For example, if you use any of the maps/location features that show you stuff around you, say hotels, you can use a mock location of where you're headed (say New York City) vs. where you are now (on the highway in New Jersey) to get what's close to that location.
Clear as mud, right?
Also, you can use mock location for development purposes in case you're making an app that uses a GPS location and you don't get a real GPS location, or testing to see if your app will work with different coordinates and how it will react.
EDIT
Woohoo this was my 2000th post!

Google now

What is the right way to use Google now when traveling? Ie how do I set it up to keep me posted on flight info? I read that searching for a flight number will do it but how does it know what the date is? Flight numbers repeat daily and searching by flight number and date returns no results. Same question regarding hotels. If I'm flying somewhere how does it know when and where and when to alert me of the hotel directions? I read somewhere it is reading email confirmations but I'm not sure.

Could you be specific? What does it do

It tells you today’s weather before you start your day, how much traffic to expect before you leave for work, when the next train will arrive as you’re standing on the platform, or your favorite team's score while they’re playing. And the best part? All of this happens automatically. Cards appear throughout the day at the moment you need them. Its basically a smart little assistant for your phone only works with jelly bean phones and ics root with a rom I just got it but I really don't like it to be honest

I'm asking specifically about travel, airports, hotel, etc.
Well when u travel it uses the card cause it know ur in a car traveling it tells u short cuts how to avoid traffic jams and wrecks, at airport the airport card knows to come up because of you location settings it goes on the map and knows where ur at that's how it knows wat card to bring up, so when u get to an airport it tells u about your flight if you have one or other flights and delays such as u waiting on someone, for hotels it give you ratings prices better deals. Like I said its just like an assistant that learns from your everyday life route and plans and its there to help u with everything instead of looking for info just click on the app and it'll give you wat you need

First off, I've found those functions to work best if you're either a) doing everything from your phone or b) searching on your desktop while logged into Google with the same Google ID you've linked to your phone.
From there, it's pretty much just automatic. And sometimes a little creepy. Oh...also helps if your flight confirmations, itineraries, hotel info, etc is going to the same gmail account as whatever you've linked to your phone. For various purposes, Google Now processes a combination of your web history & email inbox.
It'll use current location for the starting point of any projected drives, & for the weather reports.
