[Q] Arm Band? - Verizon Droid Charge

Anyone have suggestions for a good arm band holder for the Droid Charge? I am a runner and cyclist who needs something that really stays in its place... thanks.

TuneBelt makes an armband that fits 4.3" devices perfectly. Go with that. I got mine on Amazon.

Was the model you chose for the Droid X and Incredible?
This one?
Thank you

I feel like the Charge is too heavy to have on your arm. I keep it in my bag while I'm at XC practice and in one of the back pockets on my cycling jersey when I go cycle. And obviously I keep it in my bag at swim practice. So it essentially stays in a bag for at least 3 hours a day, plus I have school... Yet it's still very close to dead when I come home for lunch. Am I veering off topic here?

You could say that. If you were to use an armband it would be like having a weight on that arm so that could be a positive.?.
Also, your battery should be lasting longer than that. Assuming you have gone through the settings and done some of the basics maybe you should download setcpu and make sure your lowend number is really low. This will help with battery without really penalizing performance. SetCPU is great even if you don't want to overclock.

I'm no noob. I've done pretty much everything possible and the battery life still sucks ass. Probably stems from the fact that my school is a ****ing bunker...and I hate listening in class so I answer questions on XDA or play some games.
I've tried underclocking...the performance difference between 1 ghz and 800mhz drives me nuts. Undervolting makes a slight difference but it eventually becomes unstable. Real men use Voltage Control
Also, its not the weight that would bother me, the annoying part is that it would swing side to side. If I want to run with music I'll use my ghetto iPod Nano 2G...

For XC I just put it in a generic string bag and leave it in my car/in my coach's classroom. For swimming, i use a custom Speedo swim bag... Like a backpack, but made to hold wet suits and towels. I don't mean I wear it when I swim... That would be ridiculous.

[Q] Extended Battery?

So I sold my Inspire because the battery is garbage and can't last a day with heavy usage. So is there an extended battery that could make this phone last at least a day???? This phone is a big downgrade from the Atrix with that tiny battery
I saw a nice boost rooting and going with CM7 notmassive but better. Other then that consider trying a undervolted kernel, it worked for me. With some moderate to heavy usage im around 20 hours

Ill go get my brothers and try it. The only thing is that I like the full 1ghz. My Atrix can run the Tegra 2 with heavy usage for up to a solid 22hours.... I got to 26 once.

Well, if you already sold it and you consider it a downgrade from the Atrix, why would you still want an extended battery?
If battery is all that matters, then go with the atrix. You won't find much of a dev section for it though.
In any case, there isn't an extended battery available that will match the atrix, and any aftermarket ones with a listed capacity greater than the existing stock battery most likely won't perform at their advertised capacity anyhow.
There are tradeoffs with any phone. The inspire has to be micromanaged to optimize its battery, which admittedly, isn't the greatest.
Still wouldn't trade mine for an atrix, though.

Even rooted and running something like CM7 with, say, LorDmod's undervolted kernel he's still not going to get more than a day out of the phone with "heavy usage" unless it's underclocked as well. One of the biggest killers is the screen and backlight simply due to its sheer size.
I was able to pull 2days 14 hours out of an Inspire with LorDmod's -25mV undervolt but I'm pretty light on the usage.

I agree. The screen is what kills it for sure. No way around that, aside from reducing screen brightness and minimizing/optimizing all the other non-screen functions of the phone, to leave more juice for the screen to consume.
2 days 14 hrs is pretty good, but knowing what your screen-on time for that period was would put in better context.

Couldn't agree with you more. I started with the Inspire for a few days hated the battery and volume so I went with the Atrix. After 26+ days and the lack of development and the fact the phone got crazy hot after playing games for not long I decided to come back to Inspire. Haven't even thought about the Atrix since! The choice of REAL ROMs and the fact it's an overall much nicer feeling phone (not cheap feeling) sold me on the Inspire. Not to mention the fact that the screen on the Atrix, qHD and all, IMO sucks color wise compared to the Inspire. The "THD" games I bought weren't all that impressive IMO and cost more money as well. I am yet to have the Inspire run dead on me while I was out and if I know I'm going to be out for a while it's simple to bring a charger in the car and give it extra juice to last. Screw the Atrix and it's locked bootloader thanks to garbage Motorola!
*off rant* lol
Is keeping a spare batt on you feasible with this phone? I mean, is switching the battery a real pain in the butt on it? I'd be afraid of the door wearing out and not wanting to stay in place.

Pretty minimal. I get a lot of emails so it's on to check/reply to those and refresh a twitter feed. In that particular screenshot I had to reflash CM and the LorDmod kernel (it's the big drop around 60%).

Depends on where you open it. It's insanely easy to pull off if you put your nail under the volume buttons instead of the edge. Like this video shows.
Or you can hold off a few and grab one of these.

Lol. I actually *wanted* the atrix, aka Olympus, before it was released.
I guess it depends on what kind of impression your previous phone left you with, as well.
For me, I had a captivate, so just having a phone that I didn't have to worry about finding out it turned off on its own, or that gps actually works, set the bar pretty low in terms of what a better phone is.
That's not to minimize the inspire -- it really is a great phone in its own right, but still... Someone who's expecting an iPhone or feature phone in terms of battery performance is going to be in for a bit of readjustment going to an inspire.

Somehow I missed your screenshot before.
I'be been used to just looking at the actual numbers, too, so...
For me I can get about 5 hrs total screen time in between about 14-16 hrs between charges, with no CPU tweaks. There's room for improvement on that, as time goes on.

Yeah I came from an iPhone 4 before Android and I wasn't impressed with its battery. My battery was LOW at end of day but I also used the living hell out of it. I use the Inspire a bit less but I've been pretty busy since I got it. The battery could be better sure but it lasts me a full day so far.

Skyrocket Short Review From an Iphone4 User

Just figured I would chime in an leave a few comments about my new Skyrocket.
Background: I am a long time iPhone user and this is my first android device. I came from an Iphone 4. You know what really pissed me off about the iphone4? When the iphone4 came out and you couldnt upload 720p vidoes to youtube (they later fixed this, but it took a while). A-JOKE if I ever saw one.
When the iphone 4s came out it was a huge disappointment in terms of specs. Apple seems to be struggling with rolling out the best and latest and greatest.
Getting used to android didnt take long. I got all tingly inside with all the extra freedom and choices!
Samsung makes a the best screens and it shows. The screen size & 4G LTE speeds are all you need to forgot about your iphone4 or iphone4s. Cause lets face it, the 4s was a money maker. Not a real hardware upgrade, right SIRI?
Pros vs iphone4:
The first thing you will notice the screen. BAM in you face its huge. Its bright, its just eats the iphone screen for lunch.
The 2nd thing you will notice is how fast the phone zips around menus, loads programs etc.
The 3rd thing you will see is the 4g LTE speeds are what phones needed 3 yrs ago!
Good form factor. Very thin, Huge Screen
More Freedom and choices with android customization.
Plays Mkv videos files without hassle
Easier to transfer videos/pics via USB
Home screen Widgets
Its nice to be ahead of the TECH curve instead of 1yr behind
I can take my battery out.
I can put a MicroSD card in. No way? I am still in shock
Cons:
The only bad thing about the skyrocket is battery life. The truth of the matter is you find yourself using the phone more vs the small/slow iphone4. I am seeing a full day with avg/normal use. When I cant put it down the battery drains rather fast. With a charger at work, home, car its not that big of deal for me cause power is always near by as I dont travel for work much at all.
IRIS isn't as accurate and advanced as SIRI (YET). But most people I talk to who have siri only use it to send text msgs or compose emails. Android has the built into the your home screen. Asking SIRI drunk questions for humor lasts what 15mins?
No ICS
I am sure this isnt all the pros/cons.. But its what Ive noticed in a week of ownership. Enjoy my post
Thanks for reading
-mhx
Enjoy your skyrocket mom have a iPhone and she's always asking how I get my phone HIGHLY customizable once MIUI comes out. It will make you love Android!

Ics is coming..the skyrocket and vivid were both confirmed by att for ics. And so far the only att devices that were confirmed. Also remember this device is still very new. We will be seeing 3500mah extended batterys soon im sure, and theres the power skin. That is like having a second battery
yah I saw the powerskin, I am not a fan of the rubber case.
I like the raw feel and a thin phone that slips in/out pockets without sticking.. Plus i dont like the lip u get on the front screen when u put a case on a phone. Its in the way for me
I emailed Seido already asking for an update. A larger plastic back cover I can deal with for 2x battery life.
Once you start rooting and flashing roms you will be addicted. I used to have a iPhone and I gotta say there's nothing exciting about iOS. Android just makes you feel good inside. And just to keep your spirits up, I used to get 9 hours of battery use in a single charge. That turned to 14. And now its at 18-20 hours a charge depending on usage of course. Btw I am rooted as well.

What ROM are you running now? What root kit did you use?
Totally agree with this, the battery life is the only con i can see because all other will be fixed soon. I had all the iphone until the except the 4S, i was literally a fanboy of Appple but now, i put my big shiny LTE GS2 in anybody who has an iphone and all they have to say is WOW!. I am not an android fanboy, Apple and their stupid JAIL policies make matters worse for them. Even the jailbreak could come close to what android does stock.
For battery life, i get a decent life because in rooted and allow Juicedefender ultimate to underclock my CPUs...on full charge i get about 24-30 hours of mild use without disabling wifi or sync
EDIT: And for siri, **** SIRI get voice actions plus...its a little buggy but it's much better than siri or iris

Speaktoit Assistant is by far the best Siri-like app out there. I wont call it a clone because it was out BEFORE Siri was released.
Also Vlingo's In-Car feature that reads your texts to you and allows you to naturally speak out your reply is a feature you simply cannot do on Siri.

I also came from the Iphone, and I have to concur about the battery. I have installed a different ROM and that did help, but I hate having to constantly monitor whats running, battery life, usage, check this app, that app..etc. to ensure I'm getting the best battery life. Other than that...i love it.

Don't need to...it will kill the process. If you really want to, you can install task killers or juice defender for battery. My last iPhone was the 3gs and decided to try other OS before the rumoured iPhone 4 was official. The Nexus One did it for me and have been here since.

I think the rezound is a better phone than the charge. Faster, newer, higher video resolution, more ram etc.. The only thing doesn't have is the hdmi output (I don't use this at all..only for testing) and shorter battery life than the Charge. So yeah! I would take the rezound.
specs-wise the rezound is a superior devise. I havent used it so i cant say for sure, but if i were given the option i would probably do it.

My girlfriend just got the Rezound on Saturday and I'm super jealous. It's a kick ass phone in general, and they already have a really solid development community and they don't even have S-OFF yet. Dev on that phone is going to explode when S-OFF comes.
do the "beats" earbuds come with it? $100 value in those alone...
I say... go for it. If it's that much of a deal, you'd be a fool to pass it up.
You'd be getting a phone with more RAM (double the RAM of the Droid Charge), a dual-core CPU, and a better GPU. What more can be said?

I wouldn't pay .10 for Beats headphones. They sound awful...muddy and unlistenable. I listened to my gf's after she got the phone, then I plugged in my Skullcandy Titans and listened to them...the Titans have just as much bass as the Beats, but they have a lot more balance in the treble and mids. The Beats are nothing but bass.

Rezound is awesome no doubt. My wife has one. But the battery life is horrendous without rooting it and maybe changing the rom. My wife uses hers minimally but the phone's power and resources eat up battery life.
Still love the Charge. I haven't had issues like a lot of people have had when it was stock or during root phase, and/or upgrading to a custom rom.

ya resale is what i was thinking.... i got the beat buds when they first came out and it wasn't long before i was extremely disappointed and went back to the bose.
I've tried alot of the roms which are awsome and phone works good for a while then slows down which it does with any rom. Fp1 is a huge improvement but still slows down in random spots and drops data for no reason. And gps sucks still sometimes 5 seconds but all too often im sitting in my car or outside waiting for it to lock for 5 min even when it shows 6 satellites. Its been fun but I think its time to move on. Going to miss the screen and the awsome community

so just got the rezound and wow its fast. My biggest gripe was the gps on the charge and its like insta lock with the rezound and the altitude is right!! The biggest thing about making the switch is its definitely going to take some time to get used to the screen the colors look more realistic then the charge but I keep going back to the charges screen and saying wow because everything just pops. The rezound has a 720p screen which is nice and now I notice all the pixels on the charge lol. overall I think ill be very happy with the rezound. Thanks everyone for your advice
Some other things i notice the camera on the rezound is amazing and super fast i would say faster than the charge. The screen is harder to view in the sunlight vs the charge I might fix that with a screen protector but not sure yet. I do like sense now that i have had some time to get used to it. gonna miss that amoled screen but not the slow ass gps lock

**All S4 owners please read this**

Hi guys,
So I did some testing on batteries for the S3 and it seemed to get positive feedback from fellow XDA members. I was wondering how many people would be interested in the testings for the S4. I buy most of the batteries myself (which costs a lot of money and I am not asking for donations). I just want to help as many S4 owners on buying the right battery. If you would like me to do similar tests please reply in this thread. If it gets enough replies I'll begin buying the batteries asap and start posting results one by one in a new thread(hopefully it'll get stickied).
Thanks in advance

The S4 tests will be similar in fashion.

I think it would be great if it's not too much trouble to go through. Having a guide to ascertain the best battery for my needs would be very helpful.
I actually wish there were a lightweight, smaller capacity battery for everyday use, since I'm rarely in a situation where I don't have charging access. I haven't put them on a scale, but in the hand the battery weighs almost as much as the whole phone! A battery with roughly half the capacity would probably knock half an ounce or so off the overall weight. Probably wishful thinking on my part.

Lol I hate how light this phone is without a case I feel like I'm going to snap it in half.

Hehe. Different strokes for different folks! The relatively light weight of the S4 was a key selling point to me, and also a reason I don't use a case. But for people like you, you can always add a case, bigger capacity battery, etc., but there's really no way to make it lighter. Maybe a helium tank!

Yeah lol people have said their S3 battery works for the s4 although I'm not sure how much a few hundred mah really makes a difference in wait. If you're really serious you take the back cover off and use a piece of electrical tape to hold the battery in.

Lol exactly what I was thinking but I did this on my old G2X when the tabs on my back cover bent/broke. If you have it in a case you'll never notice.
I've just recently purchased Hyperion's 5200mAh battery from Amazon. It will arrive within the next week or so. I can do some extensive testing on that and report my results if anyone would like.
I thought I read somewhere that a Nexus battery would be an upgrade and a same fit? Is this true or are there any other OEM batteries that fit for more capacity? I know there are a couple aftermarket batteries that dont require a back cover but are kind of unreliable from what I'm reading. I remember having the htc sensation and upgrading it to the evo 3d battery, same fit but like 500 more mah.
This would be great, keep up the good work!
I'd like to see a test/review. Been thinking about buying one of the 7600 options that comes with a case.

Plan on adding a micro fan to back

Im in the procces of implimenting a small 15 x 15 x 4 mm fan to the back panel of my m8 i was wondering if anyone knew the max voltage that the battery pushes out coming off the battery connetion point will b posting pics soon planning to mill the back plate this weekend if fan shows up
Update battery only produces .6 v dc but the vibration motor has 1.2 v so next i need an application that could keep the vibrator on full time w/ different strengths then i will tie directly into said connection jack

Over clock i figure if i can keep it cooler i can turn it up more without potential overheat.... Plus i have an extra back and a machine shop with a weekend to kill

Raw battery voltage will be between ~3.6 - 4.2 volts. Can't see the practical use but if you just want to then go for it.
To each his own, but... If you were to do it I can't imagine that a fan (which will kill the battery much quicker) would not provide enough cooling to be a worthwhile tradeoff for OC'ing the phone. IMHO if you have to add an external fan (would also look gawdy) for the OC, it just doesn't seem justified.

I'm doing it because it would b a first and slow week at work
pulling from the batt. Connection would b less beneficial I've decided that the vibrator motor would b a better option that way I can a just the speed / use the fan as the vibrator plus it will have a case made for it , and I'm not using it as a pushing fan like a CPU fan it will b pulling air through air Channels I'm milling inside with relief holes to vent further, and i have found smaller fan now it's 14*14*2.5 mm so not so fat also decided I'm polishing both backs if the fan works out I will b selling a polished back

I agree with other folks here that it sounds a little crazy but I say go for it. I could only dream of having access to the tools necessary to tinker like this. I just wouldn't recommend taking out a loan intending to pay it off with the profits from this endeavor. Be sure to fill us (or at least me) in with the results.
I'd certainly be interested in seeing the results, mind you!
sorry guys work got real hectic this week
It's a cool idea but the CPU will likely become unstable before heat is an issue.
