I was wondering if the current slingplayer works on the XOOM. I don't want to spend 30 bucks for an app only to find it forces close on launch or something.
Thanks!

I have - it works fine. It looks like Sling updated the Android app yesterday to include high quality streaming, finally! It runs in full screen on the Xoom - the picture looks good (not great, but good). Hopefully Sling will release a tablet-optimized version as well.

Hey dwboston, I tried to look for this app in the market for the Xoom and I can't find it. Where did you find it at? I tried the search button, but it didn't find it either.
Works great for me
after the update, it works ok. the mobile controls need to be tweaked, but it is usable.
Slingbox on Xoom
The app works great on Xoom but is exactly the same as the application for the Android phone. Therefore if you purchased the application for your Smartphone no need to purchase it again for the Xoom.
Also since its the same app the controls could use some tweaking but overall it does what its suppose to and with good bandwidth the video quality is great.
I am working on a video to show you how it looks/works. Ill post it soon.
Slingplayer Overview Video
As promised I have a video overviewing Slingplayer app for Slingbox. Hope this helps those deciding on making the investment. I paid $180 for Slingbox(you really only need the regular) and $30 for Slingbox App for Android.

Excellent video, thanks! I don't have a Slingbox, but it sure is tempting after seeing how flawless and easy it ran on the Xoom.
I bought a Monsoon Vulkano for 109.00 and the app is free. I have been very pleased with the quality on my DX and my laptop. I will try it on my Xoom as soon as I get one!

Update: does not work withmy g tablet even with the latest update. Just hangs at the buffering screen.

Your Welcome. Please 'Thanks' me , helps me out a little. I run daily videos of different applications on Xoom so you can check out my channel through that link to see other vids, as well as request Apps you want to see in action. http://www.youtube.com/sleeplessninjas
The app itself is as flawless as the video depicted. Setting up the hardware initially for use over the internet can be a little tricky and its hard to make a generic video on how to set it up because the tricky part depends on customizing some port forwarding on your router. But if anyone is having issues with this setup just send me a private message. You probably shouldn't ask for help with the hardware setup in this thread because it doesn't really pertain to the Xoom itself.

From reading up on the device it looks really impressive. Especially with the HDMI In and the ability to have its own DVR. Thank you for sharing I am going to check it out.
For those that are on Dishnetwork with a VIP 922 or 722 with Sling adapter there is a free application. It shows up on the cellphone market, but not the tablet.
I downloaded the latest phone version in apk format from another site and installed it on the Xoom. The latest version has the HD mode that was just released on the normal Sling player. The browse portion is verticle, but when you play a video it switches to horizontal. Working great for me so far.
I have a Sling Pro-HD coming tomorrow and I am going to see how that works on other devices. If the quality is good I am going to hook it up to a device such as one of my Blu Ray players that has Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon on it to see how that looks and works.

I didn't have to search for it. I have it loaded on my phone (Dell Streak) so it showed up automatically in my list of apps in the Market on the Xoom the first time I turned it on.
I have the slingplayer app on ea bunch of devices. I have it for the ipod touch, my Droid, I even have a Windows license of it from when I had a Winmo phone. I have one of the older Slingbox AV devices and I gotta say it's been great. Now that I can hook the Xoom up to HDMI I can literally watch tv anywhere I am. I am traveling this weekend, hotels typically have HDMI inputs and wifi so I always have my tivo with me. I used it on my last trip to watch local news at night back home. The controls aren't perfect as mentioned above but they're pretty good. I use the app almost daily either on my phone on the Xoom. Most people complain about the cost of the app but to me it's worth it.

One thing if you decide on the Vulkano, just get the "platinum" version it has the same abilities that the other units have but does not come with an SD card or hard drive but they can be added for the dvr feature. With the free apps for all devices, I think its the best deal going. Good luck!

sorry to bump this thing up, but what version of Sling player are yours? mine doesn't work, just loads a black screen, sometimes it hangs there and most of the time it closes.
NVM found an update sorry.
I have a Slingbox AV (old model) and it still chugs away. I watch a half hour show at lunch everyday on the Xoom. Works well.
Sling over Wifi seems to work okay. However, it doesn't seem to work over bluetooth tethering for me. Can anyone else confirm whether or not it's working for them via bluetooth tethering?

Bluetooth will most likely not support the bandwidth required for streaming. I would never suggest tethering (usb or bt) for anything other than just accessing the internet for google searches and other low bandwidth usage.
checkout a BT wiki for more info, BT is just not the best idea when it comes to any sort of high bandwidth file transfers or streaming or even tethering if you ask me... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth
I have my droid 2 tethered to my xoom and I have zero problems streaming my sling box HD.
Currently running TnT lite 5.0.1 on my ViewSonic G tablet and have tried Qik (the version designed for the galaxy tab), but the sound didn't work. Tried fring, but the whole app just made funny noises and didn't work. Also tried Tango, but the app didn't recognize a phone number, so it wouldn't let me use the software with my tablet. All tests were done with the gf who has an HTC EVO, stock.
Has anyone had any luck with any specific combination of ROM's and apps? Or do you know of another app that would be best?
Notice to SKYPE... you're expected to be the industry leader here, so wtf are you doing so far behind the curve on mobile video chat???
Thanks for any help!
Been wondering about this myself. I don't understand why nobody is making a big deal out of this. What's the point of having a front facing camera if there ain't no video chatting program that works? I am particularly ugly... don't know why my boy friend is my boy friend in the first place. I wouldn't want to take pictures of myself in a million years.
Anyway, this is one of the reasons why I'm still hesitant to order this device.
Try Yahoo messenger+ video plugin. It wors perfectly for me. Sound and video. Tested yesterday.
Greetings
But with yahoo messenger you can't call people on other services like skype. Or can you?
No, only yahoo contacts, but at least is a solution. Skype is playing the cell companies game here, so it will take a long time before they offer a video solution.
So what is the XOOM using for this? Custom Motorola build of something or... ?
Ya, xoom supposedly has a kickass video chat possibility that they've been advertising for a while. What are they using?

My understanding is the video chat in Honeycomb is through the GTalk server, which is awesome. Also quick note as I haven't seen it mentioned yet, Qik is actually owned by Skype.

May I ask where you got it from?
The oovoo site says my tablet doesn't qualify (running tnt 4.25)
And loading the oovoo apk I found on xda only force closes. (Even after moving it to system/app)
Thank you

Isn't Skype eventually supposed to add video/camera support for tablets in the near future? Thought I recalled a couple of articles during CES about this.
anybody got netflix working for the infuse? i tried the stock 1.2.0 and modded 1.2.0 before seeing that 1.2.1 is out and doesnt have device check anymore so it doesnt need to be modded but its still closing the program after i log in.
1.2.1 apk: http://db.tt/wDtOm1L
Yeah, I tried as well this morning with the same results. BTW just wanted to note my infuse is rooted.
Rooted infuse with no device check apk same result
tried. Installs fine, but closes after trying to sign in
I am able to sign in and utilize all of the apps features including navigating my instant queue, but it shuts me down when i try to play.

it only works with gingerbread on the hummingbird. on a snapdragon it works on 2.2 because quallcomm has a deal with netflix. i guess the drm support is different.

Thanks for the the 1.2.1 download. I was able to get the 1.2.0-No device check.apk version to install and launch. Everything but streaming is working (i.e. add to queue, search, etc.). One thing I haven't tried yet is to 'deactivate' one of my devices that I use to stream Netflix. Remember, you only get 6 unique devices at a time. I had to do this when I got my AppleTV2 and realized that between the xbox360's, blu-ray player and the multiple iphone/Pads in our house, that I had run out of activations (got a message that the ATV2 couldn't access Netflix Instant, blah, blah, blah... a similar one to what I'm getting when I try with the Infuse), so I deactivated the blu-ray and was able to use my ATV2 just fine.
Will post if this works.
deactivating devices doesnt make a difference. and i dont appear to be limited to 6 devices anymore, i now have 9.
What it's going to boil down to is to modify a gingerbread rom and most importantly a kernel to get it onto an infuse. That's the only way we're gonna pull this off.....
Or just wait. =]

i swear there are like 4 threads on this already in General. /sigh.
i have been digging deeper and had seen some... i just need to contact verizon to let them know which phone to send me since they are taking thinderbolt back. i played with the phones at verizon and this one after the update seems better. I am not sure.. the gps seems much better and locked on quick the phone seemed less laggy what do you guys know about the lg revolution
i know netflix does wotn on LG Revolution. If that's your make it or break it deal, then you need to get LG Revolution. No one really knows when 2.3 will release on the Charge. What we know now is really just speculation.
I hope you don't want to hook up the HDMI to your tv to watch rented or downloaded movies. I've tried doing that from both mediahub and blockbuster and it wont let you. The screen says it's a rights issue. When I bought the phone no one said anything about that.

According to Android Police, Netflix has added our device to the supported list!
http://bit.ly/oPqr9l
version 1.3 is supposed to work on our device, but currently the version that you can download from the market is 1.2.2, so I guess that's why it isn't working yet.
downloaded it but it goes back to main screen after putting in email and password
your link is dead it seems here is another
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...rge-atrix-4g-bionic-and-one-honeycomb-tablet/

I know, I got kicked out too! =[
I saw it in the market earlier. I thought it had appeared because of some of the tweaking I'd done after rooting today, but quickly realized that is probably preposterous. This makes a lot more sense.
Anyway, it doesn't work for me either. Force quits after trying to log in.
Here's to hoping that 1.3 update is released soon and we can finally watch Netflix over our unlimited 4g data plans!
dropped a 1 star on the app in the market for listing the charge as supported, and it STILL closing after login. here's hoping after enough of those, they'll actually fix the issue. honestly, this is the one app I'm holding out for to make this phone complete for me.
Not working for me either. Reboots after logging in. Seems like netflix pulled the switch a bit too early.

Netflix would not add the Charge to supported devices over a leak, since its you know.....a leak...... and yes, previously most all phones required GB to run netflix.
If it added as a supported device and still won't work on Froyo, then it deserves bad star ratings, if it will support the Charge Froyo with a new version of the app, but that version isn't out yet and they are already adding it to the list of supported devices, it deserves a 1 start review.
has anyone tried it on stock froyo or are we all on modded roms?
Tried on both
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
2 things:
First, it specifically mentions the Commando with 2.2 as being compatible.. so that's a nod toward Froyo support.
Secondly, it lists the Bionic as being supported.. so maybe they just grabbed a list of phones and called them supported.. or maybe the Charge is going to get Gingerbread soon.
Its definetly becuase they didnt put 1.3 on there. It even says in the description "Netflix 1.3" but has 1.2.2 so thats clearly the problem. But why on earth would they update the description and not the actual app?????
The app downloaded fine from market on my GummyCharged Froyo. But it's the same 1.2.2 version released a month ago. The app description does mention 1.3 - so hopefully an update will be pushed out soon.

I just called Netflix to complain about it not working and they told me that it may be a DRM issue.
The more people that call to complain the faster they will fix the problem. (or they will pull support for our phones)

Its always been a DRM problem.
So the questions we need answered is 1.3 going to clear up those issues or did they just throw the DC on that list for the heck of it.
There is no point in doing anything until the official version on the market is actually 1.3. Then we will find out if anything changed.
