Good morning all.
I'm using Tiamat's 3.1 ROM, and have recently noticed two things (not necessarily related):
1. Keyboard lag, lots of it- This applies while typing in browser, email clients (both) and Market
a. I have Swiftkey, Thumb and T9, they all do it.
2. All apostrophe's I type in the Email client come out as "'"
Anyone have any ideas?
It's a Android Honeycomb issue, not a Tiamat issue.
I understood that to be true, just being specific for those who might ask what version of OS/kernel I am running.
Is there a short term "fix" for the problem?
Type slower?
Just kidding. No, not that I'm aware of.

After a lot of trepidation, I finally rooted and upgraded to JF1.5. I really have to thank all the people who have spent sooooo much time discovering and documenting this.
I did a lot of reading before I upgraded. I finally used http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/TableOfContents , because it's excellently documented and has all the files I need in one place. Thanks Jon Pezz!
I do have some questions and observations
1. I can't seem to get telnetd working after upgrading to JF1.5. I read posts about it being broken in an earlier release, but being subsequently fixed. Is this broken or intentionally turned off? I love the G1 for the physical keyboard, but it's a poor country cousin to my IBM Model M keyboard And I'd rather use my PC for typing any day.
2. One of the best devices I have owned is the Sharp Zaurus. It wasn't a phone, but it was a great Wifi Device. It was Linux too and I could control it completely. I'm surprised that Google is making us jump through hoops to get root access. Also, I don't see samba, vnc server, vpn etc. yet. Some work around, some in progress, but surprisingly not the real thing.
3. I was completely underwhelmed by the multi-touch in the browser. It's performing so poorly, initially I thought it wasn't working at all. It works really well on the iPhone, but on the G1 it's very unresponsive. I tried unchecking "Fit to page", although I think that's so incredibly useful for browsing on mobile devices - in fact, one of the reasons why I think this is a better browser than the one on the iPhone. So maybe it's not really ready for prime time. I found it much faster to use the single touch zooming.
4. While I really like the physical keyboard, like everybody, the soft keyboard is very handy for typing a few letters. But in the two places where I really find myself needing one, it doesn't work - quickly filtering contacts and and in the App drawer to select an app. In the case of contacts, you have to open the menu, select search, click on the text field and then start typing. It's faster to just flip out the physical keyboard. In the Apps drawer, it doesn't work at all. It would be useful to add a button combo that would popup the soft keyboard.
Also, I see a lot of people asking for the HTC T9 keyboard for contacts. You might want to check out SpellDial in the Market. Works really well.

I'm not. Root access would wreak havoc on 95% of G1 owners seeing they are oblivious to the phones capabilities and just use it as a phone. Can you imagine the damage some rouge/malicious app on the Market could cause? There isn't a chance in hell Google could pull it fast enough.

If I'm not mistaken i believe telnetd was disabled b/c of security reasons.
Just imagine if while using a wifi network someone else gained root access of your phone. Not a cool risk worth taking.

The way it is currently set with no password, maybe. But if while registering for Gmail, it used the same password for root (or provided advanced users with an ability to use a different password for the phone), would that still be a security issue?

Again, isn't this because of the fact that root has no password (or has a fixed password)? Wouldn't this be like any other linux box if there were a user password. From my light browsing on the subject, doesn't look like anyone's got sshd running on the G1 either.

you can filter contacts with the virtual keyboard. Hit menu then hit search then start typing with the virtual keyboard.
Anybody else realize that the ASUS custom software keyboard (not the Android vanilla keyboard) seems to have Swype-like technology built in? So psyched I accidentally just stumbled on that
Maybe thats why some people report that it is sluggish. It seems to work ok for me though I never realized it worked like swype, thanks!

It seems it doesn't work in all text fields.. doesn't seem to work in the address bar of the browser or in email address fields. But it does work in most general text boxes. People complain about the keyboard being sluggish? I feel like I haven't really experienced anything like that
No matter what I do the keyboard in the browser takes forever to type, tried Thumb keyboard, stock keyboard, Logitech Blutooth keyboard. On every website I try, Facebook, Google Images, XDA, anyone else wtih this issue?

This is a well-known issue, caused by sites with a ****ton of javascript.
It got a bit better for me in 3.2, but it's still there.
I keep hoping webapp developers will smarten up and reduce the javascript for mobile and tablets.

Search is your friend...really:
Xoom tremendous keyboard lag
Keyboard Lag and Formatting
keyboard lag
Keyboard Lagginess on display units
I had the same problem. In another thread someone mentioned that they thought about going to a static IP since the Xoom was constantly acquiring a dhcp address. They thought that was the reason for the lag on anything network. I went into the AT&T U-Verse modem that I use for WIFI at my house and modified the dhcp for my Xoom's MAC address. I set the dhcp to dedicate the IP address that I was currently using on my Xoom. As soon as I did that, my network speed was great with no keyboard lags.
You might want to give that a try and see if it helps.

Try turning off openGL rendering in the browser settings.

Hi guys, I'm posting this here as I can't seem to find anyone with the same problems as me and I am hoping someone here can help me.
Everytime I run Dolphin Browser (ver. 9.3.1), there is a MASSIVE keyboard lag whenever I want to enter anything in the address bar. The keyboard will only show up after a few seconds (ranging from 1-4 seconds) and when I enter the address, some alphabet inputs will be missing as it was not registered by Dolphin due to the lag. So for example, if I entered yahoo.com, only yo.com will be registered on the address bar, eventhough I typed yahoo.com.
General speed of loading the websites is not affected and is quite fast. It's only when there is a keyboard input involved, then it lags like hell.
I have tried tweaking my Infinity with System Tuner Pro to increase the memory limit of Dolphin browser but it doesn't seem to work. I also have Browser2Ram (as part of Cleanrom inheritance 3.3) but nothing seems to work.
Searching for similar problems faced by other owners of Inifinity also turned up empty so I hope someone can help me on this.
I have a rooted Asus TF700 running on Cleanrom inheritance 3.3 ODEX version, but I also experienced this problem when I was running my TF700 unrooted.
Please help! It's driving me crazy as I'm a big Dolphin fan!
Thanks a bunch!

Well i'm facing the same on stock. So i guess its time to write to asus.
I have the same issue with Dolphin as well. I've had it stock and also with CROMI. I have switched to the stock browser which, with CROMI, is so lightning quick and lag free. I also like Dolphin, and still use it for some websites that work better with it or I need Dolphin's add-ons for, but mainly, I use stock and am very happy.
But, no, you are not alone with Dolphin lagging badly with our device.
Perfect on my S3. It is exactly as you say on my tf700.

Odp: [Q] Massive keyboard lag with Dolphin browser
Finally someone else has the same problem as me. This is my #1 issue with everyday use of Infinity. Yes, I could switch to Boat or other brower. But I got used to Dolphin interface.
I wrote about the problem to Dolphin developers twice. They acknowledged it but did nothing about it.
The lag is probably related to the way they programmed Google search suggestions. Try disabling suggestions from Google in Dolphin preferences, the lag will be almost done. All other suggestions (history, bookmarks) will also be disabled.
The problems seems to be as follows. You type a letter. Dolphin looks for search suggestions, displays them, then reads another key, and so on. If many keys are in the buffer, it gets slower and slower. If you type really fast, the keyboard buffer overfills and some keystrokes are lost.
If you use onscreen keyboard, this problem does not occur. With the keyboard dock, you usually type faster. Passing the keystrokes through USB may also account to this. Correct me if I'm wrong.
To sum up: everyone who has this problem, please send a report to Dolphin developers (they have form on their web page). Maybe if more people will report, they will finally do something about it.
I would strongly suggest you guys to use stock. Its almost bug free and also fast enough. On mine it displays the content faster than dolphin and the page load is faster than dolphin. I have timed the loading of all the websites i frequently visit( yes I cleared all history, cache, etc. and also disabled pre loading) and dolphin took almost 5-10 seconds more than the stock browser to load up the pages. You can even try chrome. Its good after the latest update. I didn't try timing it but its better the previous version.
It has been brought up before that Dolphin is less optimized for tablets than it is for the smart phones. Might not be entirely the problem with the device.
In certain text boxes in the browser I'm experiencing a really annoying issue, basically when I type a bunch of stuff in then make a mistake and start using the backspace key to erase, stuff that I perviously typed comes up in place of stuff I erased. It happens even now that I'm typing here. What's up with this issue? Any way to fix? I noticed it happens more often when I use swype typing. Stock keyboard on stock Xperia Z3.
I still have this issue on Lollipop, wtf...
Ive had that issue since Kit Kat.
Try another browser, I had that issue before. I prefer the stock browser so I installed AOSP Browser installer from the play store, then installed the kk browser. No issues with it for me now. I hope this helps.
Trying another browser or another keyboard isn't really a fix. I like to use the Sony keyboard because it allows me to type in english and italian without having to manually switch language every time. It also seems to be more precise with the swype compared to Google or Swiftkey, and it has better handling of custom words. Also I like to use Chrome because it's fast, smooth and "just works", like someone used to say.
I made a few posts about it on the Sony forums, because it only happens with the stock keyboard, hopefully they will listen.
Here's also a video I made to show the bug recorded by me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZhG8rqpw1w
I turned off the auto correct. Seemed to work.
Interestingly enough, I noticed this with google voice typing. Invariably it would accurately type for me, but put everything in twice. Craptastically ridiculous to have to erase what you actually wanted typed because the stupid ap would double it up. I have since removed as best I can the blue google ap, don't use google+ at all and I tell the xperia kb to not guess squat for me. The actual term 'smartphone' I truly believe to be as misleading as one could possibly be without calling yourself a liar.
So, has anyone found a fix for this issue? I feel like I'm pretty much the only one so I wonder how is it possible that such a terrible glitch ON STOCK APPS is basically unnoticed.
I used to get this when using remote apps like Unified Remote and typing into the HTPC. Whenever it tried to predict it would go all screwy.
I haven't noticed it in my z3 but I use Swiftkey.
Its a problem with browser, web site, keyboard... Not sony it self...
I do occur this problem but very rarely, because some website uses technology which is not so optimize for smartphones to decode them, or certain browser.
