[Q] applications

My dad'll be getting an asus eee pad transformer soon, and I have a few questions about apps:
1. How much apps does the honeycomb market have? Are there a lot of good apps(fun games or useful tools)?
2. Will the transformer run android phone apps? And what will happen if I install an apk of a phone app on honeycomb
thanks

This list has become the unofficially 'official' list of apps optimised for Honeycomb.

Basically though, most Android apps on the market will work on your tablet and they will automatically stretch to fit the screen though not always perfectly and the odd app won't install or work at all. However on a daily basis now developers are updating their apps to be either compatible with or optimsed for Honeycomb. Just got to be a little patient...

1. Not sure, ~79 maybe 80 by now? That's counting the apps under the Featured Tablet Apps screen. A lot is stretching it, unless the stuff you decide you want ports from the phone to the tablet well, in which case yes there are lots to choose from.
2. It can and will. You will be able to access and install most of the Android Market (Froyo, Gingerbread etc.) stuff, it's still essentially 1 market you just get to see Tablet specific stuff in addition to the phone stuff whereas phones just see phone stuff. If you install an apk of a phone app on honeycomb it will either a. work perfectly, b. work but fit into a phone sized portion of the screen or c. force close (aka, not work at all). There's not much harm in trying. I'd advise you to stick with installing what's visible to the tablet in the Android Market, for now. I'm assuming there's some reason you can't see certain apps in the Tablet Android Market App and I'm confident there will be ports for them all soon enough.

[Q] Firmware from different region?

Hi, I would like to ask if anyone knows if it is possible to update the transformer firmware manually with the files of a different region?
The reason I am asking is that I got my Transformer in Japan, and the update to honeycomb 3.1 is not released here yet. (its still 3.0)
Can I use the US, or WW firmware file to update without any problems?
I'm a little worried about losing functionality with the dock keyboard, since the layout for the Japanese model is a little different (different key-mapping).
Has anyone tried to do this?
Thanks!
yeah I really need to know this too. I love this tablet but the browser crashes alot and the keyboard is laggy plus the video is horrible and staggered both on youtube and from the memory so I'm hoping the update will fix this but for some reason Japan hasn't gotten the update which is driving me crazy
Cheers for a response in advance
So... has anyone tried this?
I want 3.1, but I don't want to brick my transformer (><)
You can try PRIME 1.5 version, It's more optimized than the stocks firmware. But other firmware should works fine.
thanks makec3rt
I don't know anything about custom roms. I read the post that you linked to. But, I don't 100% understand what the point of this rom is..? Why use it instead of the stock?
Also, am I likely to have issues with the keyboard layout if I install this? And what happens to the pre-installed apps (like polaris office etc)?
You can read the change logs at there. With PRIME 1.5, you will have root access, which allow you access/modify/remove stocks apps you don't wan't, and system files etc..and not limited as the stocks firmware.
Keyboard layout should works fine, you can always change keyboard layout in the settings.
All pre-installed apps are still there.
Hi guys! I've got the same problem: my EEE Pad is from Deutschland (Build number: HRI66.DE_epad-8.2.3.13-20110511) and THE ONLY language is Deutcsh (no other languages are available in the menu). MoreLocale doesn't really help.
Cause I don't know Deutsch at all I wonder if it's possible to change firmware for US/WW/CN or anything else that would have several languages to choose from.
And what I have to do for that.
Installing a foreign SKU will void your warranty, that's for sure.

[Q] How can I install GCC/G++ on my ASUS Transformer?

I searched and hadn't found results completely relevant to what I am looking for. Is there a way to program using GCC/G++ (or any C++ compiler/IDE) on my ASUS Transformer? If not, I'll wait for all of the quirks to be worked out on Ubuntu for the Transformer.
Thanks

[Q] What does it need ...

Hola,
I had a similar issue with the xoom before and finally went through unlock, root etc. fine but it looks like its not all the same with the transformer?
I bought the transformer in china today as I need a tablet plus keyboard next week. The issue I have (same like I had with the XOOM before) manufacturers seem to unable GMAIL-Accounts on tablets purchased in china, which makes it impossible to dl apps from the market.
Please believe me this is not a chinese authoritites issue as the XOOM is working flawlessly here now.
The accounts page under settings does not contain any GMAIL option, there just is CORPORATE or EMAIL and to configure any gmail account wont be successfully connected.
I know I could dl apps anywhere but I do want to use my tablet with an GMAIL-account. So what do I have to do for that? Unlock only? Unlock and unroot? Can I follow just on those

Random guess but maybe flash a custom ROM if possible?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
haha i dont think its a random guess
well as I read in any of those threads why ever MOTOROLA etc make its so difficult just even to access the market but it keeps pushing me to try APPLE one day.
I am sick of reading so many posts and having to over come so many small issues just to use a gadget as it is supposed to be...
anyway I thought there would be an market enabler or something like as I dont want any fancy thing at this time.
stuck in a rebooting screen as I followed on that one
