Hi, I would like to ask if anyone knows if it is possible to update the transformer firmware manually with the files of a different region?
The reason I am asking is that I got my Transformer in Japan, and the update to honeycomb 3.1 is not released here yet. (its still 3.0)
Can I use the US, or WW firmware file to update without any problems?
I'm a little worried about losing functionality with the dock keyboard, since the layout for the Japanese model is a little different (different key-mapping).
Has anyone tried to do this?
Thanks!
yeah I really need to know this too. I love this tablet but the browser crashes alot and the keyboard is laggy plus the video is horrible and staggered both on youtube and from the memory so I'm hoping the update will fix this but for some reason Japan hasn't gotten the update which is driving me crazy
Cheers for a response in advance
So... has anyone tried this?
I want 3.1, but I don't want to brick my transformer (><)
You can try PRIME 1.5 version, It's more optimized than the stocks firmware. But other firmware should works fine.
thanks makec3rt
I don't know anything about custom roms. I read the post that you linked to. But, I don't 100% understand what the point of this rom is..? Why use it instead of the stock?
Also, am I likely to have issues with the keyboard layout if I install this? And what happens to the pre-installed apps (like polaris office etc)?
You can read the change logs at there. With PRIME 1.5, you will have root access, which allow you access/modify/remove stocks apps you don't wan't, and system files etc..and not limited as the stocks firmware.
Keyboard layout should works fine, you can always change keyboard layout in the settings.
All pre-installed apps are still there.
Hi guys! I've got the same problem: my EEE Pad is from Deutschland (Build number: HRI66.DE_epad-8.2.3.13-20110511) and THE ONLY language is Deutcsh (no other languages are available in the menu). MoreLocale doesn't really help.
Cause I don't know Deutsch at all I wonder if it's possible to change firmware for US/WW/CN or anything else that would have several languages to choose from.
And what I have to do for that.
Installing a foreign SKU will void your warranty, that's for sure.

Hola,
I had a similar issue with the xoom before and finally went through unlock, root etc. fine but it looks like its not all the same with the transformer?
I bought the transformer in china today as I need a tablet plus keyboard next week. The issue I have (same like I had with the XOOM before) manufacturers seem to unable GMAIL-Accounts on tablets purchased in china, which makes it impossible to dl apps from the market.
Please believe me this is not a chinese authoritites issue as the XOOM is working flawlessly here now.
The accounts page under settings does not contain any GMAIL option, there just is CORPORATE or EMAIL and to configure any gmail account wont be successfully connected.
I know I could dl apps anywhere but I do want to use my tablet with an GMAIL-account. So what do I have to do for that? Unlock only? Unlock and unroot? Can I follow just on those

haha i dont think its a random guess
well as I read in any of those threads why ever MOTOROLA etc make its so difficult just even to access the market but it keeps pushing me to try APPLE one day.
I am sick of reading so many posts and having to over come so many small issues just to use a gadget as it is supposed to be...
anyway I thought there would be an market enabler or something like as I dont want any fancy thing at this time.
stuck in a rebooting screen as I followed on that one

- edit: I thought GMail app was not possible on crApple...
Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie to tweaking, and am trying to optimise my build.prop file. I live in Australia but imported my tf700 from the us.
While going through the file I noticed the following lines:
ro.product.locale.region=US
ro.wifi.country=US
Should/can I alter the line to match my country? I would imagine it would be AUS or Australia?
Is there any advantage to doing this?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Generally edit build.prop, don't import it, there are build-specific and device-specific values that shouldn't be overwritten!
As to these lines, I'm on WW firmware and have US in locale too by default. I don't think it has any influence on the system, as you can change locale for different keyboard mappings (for diacritics when docked and using non-ASUS keyboard) etc. on the software level, but you probably won't need it anyway. I doubt there was AUS in yours either, currently there are five different firmware regional versions, which you can see on ASUS website.
As to the ro.wifi.country line, I believe it has to do with legal limitations in some countries (allowed and banned frequencies etc.), in my build.prop it is ro.wifi.country=GB by default, these are probably standarised within the EU, I'm not sure about non-EU "WW" users.
Thanks for answering. Point taken on editing, and that is what I have been doing. I thought there were some nation specific standards for wifi ( to prevent interference I presume). My wifi performance is ok using US region setting, but I guess, we're all keen to squeeze a bit more performance out of our devices. I would be very grateful if anyone from Oz could indicate what they have for 'ro.wifi.country=?' in their build.prop.
I think this could be a could thread for build.prop general question.
Does build.prop needs to be in original state when doing OTA upgrades?
We have to be temporary unrooted - is it a same thing with build.prop....
Some blamed having changed their build.prop for not receiving or not being able to install firmware updates (either OTA or manual), while others went through the whole procedure with a modified build.prop without getting into any trouble, so I don't think we have a clear answer on that one yet.
I didn't unroot mine either and I was able to receive and install the OTA update, so let's not pass too certain judgements on these.
Stupid question, but by OTA, do you mean the 1/2 dozen firmware updates and other things that the tablet downloaded the first time I got it on the network after unboxing it? I just bought mine ~10 days ago and remember that happening. THEN I rooted it.
Build number shows IML74K.US_epad-9.4.5.26-20120720
Kernel 2.6.39.4.
I'm guessing i'm on the latest, but wanted to check I didn't miss something in the past few days that might not be popping up because I rooted!
You're on the latest and I'm not sure how many you've received, but OTA means just Over The Air = over the network, without you downloading any file manually, so probably we're thinking of the same thing.
Guys, looking for some assistance on the correct wifi/US firmware. Currently KOT49H.P900UEU1ANAE on my tablet.
I have rooted with CF autoroot, and then I noticed I lost my keyboard symbols, and screen mirroring. Tablet has been great even so, as I put exposed/wanam, then installed the "alternate keyboard module" which gave me the symbols back. Being there is no work around for the screen mirroring, I decided to odin stock firmware, which I had downloaded from sammobile. I used the "unknown" for country, as US is not listed. So, as I was using the stock ROM, all my stuff stayed through Odin. Cool. No keyboard symbols, but it did bring back screen mirroring.
While in settings/language, the words with "z", are all spelled with "s".(recognised vs recognized, colours vs colors) Huh, am I running a UK version? Bought in Connecticut. When I try to set up the languages, there is no option for setting to either. I know from early posts, I saw that both the language setting had to be on English US for the symbols to show. I cant even get that to happen. Also, that posters words were spelled with a z, not s like mine.
I did a factory reset through the stock recovery, thinking I could reset the language option during setup. It only listed English, no US or UK. So I am at a crossroads. Kies3 doesnt seem to support this tab yet. Can anyone confirm a wifi US version build #? Also, does anyone have a download link to the US version other than Sammobile? thanks
Hello everyone
I, ve bought a note pro from an importer (didn't realise at the time), it is regionalised for china. I have changed the keyboard settings to english but sometimes in certain apps the keyboard opens up in Chinese. I mostly use swiftkey but would liks to sort this issue out. The device is rooted so can i replace the keyboard with a western version or change the region some how?
Grateful for any advice here. Ive never rooted a device before so dont know what the possibilities are now.
Not sure the best place to ask this question, which comes in a couple of parts:
1) Does anyone have much experience of developing Android ROMs for the Intel Atom platform - particularly on ASUS hardware?
2) Do you need to flash a completely new ROM just to change the OS language localisation, or can it be changed via setting?
3) Depending on the answer to 2), do ASUS make it particularly difficult to flash a ROM?
I ask because I'm in the market for a new tablet in the upper-mid range. Needs to be 10", FHD screen, sensibly priced, and not have a crappy processor and RAM so it won't need replacing in 12 months time. I don't particularly want a Samsung, as they seem to charge a premium price for a not-particularly (in my view) premium product.
The ideal spec machine which I have discovered is the ASUS Transformer Pad TF303C, which seems sensibly priced and spec'd. However, as of right now, it's only available in Germany through a specific retailer, and nowhere else. Neither Google nor ASUS themselves have turned up anything in the way of distributors anywhere else in the world, which is odd.
Now I'm guessing the software on a German version will be a German-language localised ROM, which will hopefully explain my questions above.
Can anybody shed any light for me please?
For the first question there are almost no Roms for Intel devices
The language can be change via the settings, there is no need to flash a new ROM,
The lack of rom can be kind of solved with xposed modules

Thanks for the reply. Changing the language via the Settings i kind of knew about, but does that change all the application names as well? Will i be left with 'Das Gmail' and other app names? Will it connect to the English version of the Play Store? Is there even a non-English version of the Play Store? I'm assuming there would have to be, but being a native English speaker, I've never had cause to check!
I'm not that bothered about there being not much in the way of Intel ROMs - I was just wondering if I'd need to flash a new ROM to sort language issues fully.

Wonderful - thanks for trying it out for me. Looks as through the Play Store is natively in English and automatically translates itself into other languages, similarly to Chrome etc.
