Anyone know where to buy the same cable with charger plug that comes with the phone? I bought a samsung cable off amazon and it doesn't work. Thanks.
It's a standard micro-USB cable. Amazon has some non-generics made by Blackberry for a little over a dollar.
I bought the Samsung Replacement USB Data Charging Cable for Samsung SPH-M330, SCH-R100, SGH-T939, SCH-R850 and it does not work with the Charge.
I bought this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0049IE70I and
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001XXUOQI
I think the second one is the one you are saying you bought...I bought 4 of them and they all work.
I know its just a normal micro usb cable, but I also would like to find a few more of the factory cables that came with the Charge. They are really nice quality. If you compare part numbers the Charge cable and charger have a newer part number than what is currently available on samsungs website. Maybe they are slowly phasing the new cable and charger in replacing the older style.

The micro USB cable I'm using now that worked with the Thunderbolt does not work with the Charge. Does anyone know of any 6ft cables they know work with the Charge? I'm also wondering if it might be the cigarette adapter that is not up to the task.
you do have to be careful because several merchants are going to see the term "Charge Cable" and think that it is meant for the Charge, however it is actually meant for "Charging only"
I have several microusb charging cables and they do not allow usb mode, however if it clearly states "for sync" it should work...
cheap generics
MyCableMart offers some great deals on cables. I bought a 6ft and a 10ft from them and both work great with my Charge.

p.s. I can't post links yet

+1. Be careful. Any old USB to micro-USB cable will charge the phone, but you won't be reading or writing data without the proper version of the cable. I found that out the hard way after trying to get Odin to recognize the Charge with a generic cable for an hour before finally trying the OEM Samsung cable
I used my OG Motorola Droid's micro USB cable to root the other day, it worked flawlessly.
Any micro USB should work and can be bought anywhere. I used the micro USB cable from my WD Passport.

Just go with monoprice... http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10303#1030307
If you're not familiar with them- they do great quality cables (across the board) for dirt cheap...hdmi, home theater, computer etc...p.s. their LCD mounts are great and cheap too.
I'm personally trying to track down a good quality retractable micro-usb cable for use in the car...I looked at a few on amazon, but the reviews were sketchy for some issues with the connector not being long enough. Anyone have any experience?

+1 I am also using Motorola cables without any issues. Superb quality, using them for everything.

I only use the samsung cable when using odin. I read there is an extra pin for data but I might be wrong or motorola used the same data pin. I have 2 retractable cables I use, ine I keep in my bag for data transfer/charging and one in my work desk for charging only. My work Mac hates when I plug in the data cable so It's just safer to use the charge only cable if I'm not transfering data.
Apparently the Charge has a special cable with some pin that allows flashing through Odin.
Not only that, I'm pretty sure you need the correct type of cable for the correct voltage output(if you want a full and fast charge)
Hi all. I am deciding between the Charge and the Infuse for work (we have contracts with both ATT and Verizon).
I was reading about the USB cable for the Charge. Looks like I need the "special" cable to do both charging AND data as you guys are discovering.
Can anyone confirm if that is the same case for the Infuse?
Thanks

I wouldn't join AT&T over something so minor as a USB cable. Verizon's network much more reliable imo.
It's not the phone that is causing the charge only/charge and data issue it's the cable itself. Some cables are marketed as charge only cables that are not made with any wires for data. There are universal cables for data and charging that have these wires.
What I was talking about is a special pin for use with Odin. Possibly a special factory function or error checking. That's why I always use the factory cable for flashing.
FYI: The cable I bought is defective as it won't work on my friends dx2 either. I still would like to know where to get the official cable from (assuming the price is not crazy) if anyone knows.
Thanks for the info guys. Interesting about that extra pin. Also a bit of a PITA since it nice to be able to use just any cable lying around.

My charger that came with the SGS4G is not an official Samsung one. This is because I bought my phone used and it came with a 3rd party charger.
The charger is just a one-piece charger. I cannot remove the cable. It says:
AC Charger
Model: Micro USB
INPUT: AC 90V-240V
OUTPUT: DC 4V-8V
Can I use this charger with other phones that charge over MicroUSB? Do I need to make sure the other phone can handle 4V-8V?
Also I intend to buy another charger as backup, but I have this adapter which I plug in my USB cable into and then it goes to the power outlet. When I used this, my phone acted very erratic, swipes would not register correctly, phone became unstable, etc. Any reason for why this would happen?
It's sounds like your generic USB charger, and should charge anything that would charge if you were to plug it into a computer's usb port. I have a belkin usb plug, except it has a usb port on it instead of a cable, and it charges everything, even PS3 controllers lol.
Who makes this charger? If it's a super cheapo, the power may be dirty and may cause your phone to act funny.

It is some cheap USB to AC charger I got from Dealextreme. Never had a problem with my old Huawei U8100 or DSLite.

Yes and yes to the first two questions but it normally isn't a problem depending on what is charging.
To the third, I had that same problem with my ZuneHD and a generic manufacturer's cable and I still don't know why.

The major issue is "are the data lines shorted together?". If they are not, your phone (and other devices that use USB for power) will see it as a simple USB port and limit draw to what a PC USB port can supply (not much).
There are also some ways (particular resistors used across... pins 1 and 3?) to indicate how high the charger can go.
Most of the USB car chargers (at least the ones with USB ports) do NOT do this, so they take forever to charge a phone.
Easiest way to tell: with the charger charging, go into device settings. If it says "Charging(AC)" you're good; "Charging(USB)" not so good.
So turns out I didn't ship this week... -_- Just what I've come to expect from the military lol. But on to my thread! Is it just me, or do any of you guys ever have issues with certain USB cables? My phone seems extremely picky about which ones work and whatnot. I've tried an LG one for a Sprint Optimus S, borrowed from my sister to charge and it wouldn't charge, tried an HTC from my girlfriend's Inspire, and I also tried an AT&T generic cable. The last two cables will charge, but no data will work, and I know there's nothing wrong with them because they all work with other people. So far I've only had luck with the Samsung official, and it seems as if mine has lost it's data abilities So on my quest to find a new one to purchase, I've wanted to avoid one that wouldn't work. If any of you guys have this problem with your phone being picky about cables, please let me know so I don't feel like I'm just crazy, lol.
Yes, i have had my share of problems with cables. I had one from my old Aria that i tried to use to charge one day and completely mest up my phone. My computer wouldn't recognize the phone, it wouldn't charge, etc. That was a headache. I just stick with the Samsung cables.

honestly ive never had issues, i just got my infuse today but its charged from several differnt cables,
Car Charger
Blackberry Charger and Cable
HTC Cable in PC (and data worked)
Ive never had issues, it seems that I have about 7 or 8 micro usb cables/chargers and from my captivate to my brand new infuse ive never experienced an issue..
I've had some issues with the orignal charging cable actually wanting to charge my phone.
Also, when plugging the phone into the computer I can't use the stock cable to do any flashing and sometimes USB doesn't work. I end up using a charging cable from my Logitech K800 keyboard and it works like a charm.
Maybe look at the cables for the K800 from Logitech, I have used it to charge via wall adapter, computer USB port, and it works for flashing. It's also longer than hell and comes with a little Velcro hoop attached to it for easy storage / transportation.
I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue, lol. I thought my phone was just crazy, haha.

I've never had a problem with any cable (BlackBerry, HTC, various Samsung) on any of my Samsung devices. Used them on Captivate, Epic and Infuse with no problems. I almost wonder if the USB port's quality is as big a factor as the cables.
My phone will charge about 55% of the time. It is the most annoying and aggravating thing I have ever encountered. Of course I can't take it back because I dropped it and shattered the screen about 2 days before my case came in the mail
Some of the AT&T cables are charging-only and won't pass data (they get lots of bad reviews for this...)
General rule:
A straight-through cable will depend on the charger to determine how the device charges. If the charger shorts D+ and D- together on its end, the phone assumes AC. If the charger uses iPad/iPhone resistors to indicate a dumb charger, the Samsung will assume USB. Not sure what happens if the charger has nothing on D+/D-.
Some of the AT&T cables short D+ and D- together in the cable - meaning they'll always charge as an AC charger but won't work for data.

If anyone is short on micro usb or in the market for one,
look for data cables instead of just a charge cable.
they're about a buck ea. on ebay
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trk...&_sticky=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=15&_sc=1
I picked up about a half-dozen Blackberry branded micro USB cables off ebay for a buck a piece, shipped; they worked like a charm.
I mistakenly thought it wouldn't matter, and on a business trip to NY took my son's cable from his LG dumb-phone. I had all kinds of problems with it, so yes, I see that behavior too. It wouldn't charge unless I fully seated the cable and then removed it halfway out of the USB connector on the phone. Even then, I occasionally had problems with it.
Had the same issues. Good cables has associated "click" event when it inserted, bad ones are loose. If you look at USB connection from Samsung made cables it has significantly larges pins on bottom (probably 2x time bigger then other brands) and that's what makes a difference. This is also important in a car with a lot of vibration. I just bought specifically Samsung OEM branded microUSB cables from eBay and never had any issues after that.
FWIW... USB cables from Monoprice work just fine on my Infuse.
And I had issues charging with a cable from another Samsung phone.
My Infuse stopped being reconized by computer and at same time I realized that it wasn't charging also. It would charge on my computer but not wall or car charger. While munchin down on some wings I dropped it and it splashed into the bleu cheese dressing. The mic and charge port were crammed with cheese. I thought I cleaned it but no. I took a tooth cleaning pick (used to get food out of your teeth, has a green brush on one end) swabbed it in alcohol, the rubbing variety and gently scrubbed the contacts. Phone now charges on all chargers, computer still won't connect.
Had all sorts of issues with cords/ports. I'm convinced it has something to do with the dual sd cards. But who knows. Anyways now using a monster data cord and it works great! well as long as I only use it on one specific USB port

I used to have the Captivate and when I bought the Infuse 4G, I accidently sent the cable that came with the Infuse with the Captivate. It turned out the two cables were the exact same model but somehow my Infuse will only allow me to charge with the Captivate cable and not data.
That is why I have resorted to cloud syncing. It is the future!
Hi !
I broke my usb cable so I can't charge my phone anymore...
I looked online but I can't find an "official" usb cord. I know that if you don't use the right one, things like ODIN may fail...
Does anyone know a good USB cord reference for the vzw s4 ?
Thanks !
Any micro USB cord should work. I've used the original and many cheap ones without problems.

It may charge but not connect to the computer i have had this issue in the past with other phones.
Generally any official or name brand cords should work it doesn't have to be the Samsung one, I'm still using my Blackberry branded cords without issue, if you are really worried i would recommend getting the cable from a major online retailer like newegg or Ncix or Canada Computers (if you are in Canada)

Not "any" micro USB cord would deliver the full 1900 mA that the stock S4 charger provides. It works but it will charge slower.
I've tested a bunch of cables and found that the iFrogz is the most reliable. It is capable of delivering 1900 mA or higher (when used with Nexus 7, etc). On top of it, the plug is slim, so it will work with thick cases or those with small cutout.
The pink ones can be found on eBay for $3.50. Other colors can be found on Amazon for $6. I like them non-black so I can find it easy among all the cables.
Hope this helps.

I have been using my first usb cord... think it came with my og droid with no issues
I have a couple of Nokia USB cables that are very reliable for both data and charging.
I have several monoprice usb cords. They all work fine and charge as fast as the oem cord.
Majority of the cords on ebay claim they sell the oem cable, they are like 1 to 1 copy, they are not OEM, but they do offer reasonable quality and speed, and do offer data transfer at a low cost compare to the actual OEM one's.
I'm using the stock charger but the cable is a bit short for me. I have two 3' USB extension cables but neither of them allow the tab to charge. The tab lights up as though I plugged the charger in but it doesn't ding nor does it actually charge. That are standard extensions and work with my Kindle & various HTC cell phones but not my TF300T. Anyone know why or could someone suggest a brand/type of USB extension cable that would work? I am also comfortable with buying a new one and rewiring or swapping wires on it if need be or buying wire and 2 ends and soldering it myself.
Since the tab is 15v and USB is 5v I'm guessing they swapped a wire somewhere in the plug to allow for more voltage.
Thoughts?

You have to use a USB 3.0 extension cable.
Seriously? That's it? Man, I feel like a dummy. It never would have occurred to me that 3.0 was necessary. Thank you for the help!

Yep that is it.
I bought my USB 3.0 extension cable from www.caseen.com. They also carry the stock chargers, cables and a couple other items that I was unaware even existed (a 2 port USB hub that plugs into the USB on your TF300T dock WITH an Ethernet port so you can connect DIRECTLY instead of staying wireless!). Fairly decent pricing and fast shipping.
This is probably a noob question, but is there any specific micro usb cable I should get for this phone? The one that comes with it is so short. Is there any specific wattage or mAh I need to look for before buying a longer cable?
I don't think usb cable matters ,,,,only thing is you have to use correct adapter

USB cables make a huge difference, more than people realize, especially if you want a cable that's longer than 3ft. Try to find one that has 24AWG wiring
Yes, it does matter. Since we can't see internal wires, we don't know what its gauge is. I have changed to original cable (comes with phone) to get faster charging.

You can search for them, and a lot of times it is imprinted on the cable. look for 28/24AWG, this means that the signaling wires are 28AWG and the power wires are 24AWG. The safest bet is to get genuine cables for any of the leading smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, LG or Motorola.
Monoprice is also a good source - http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=103&cp_id=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5458&seq=1&format=2
I know cable specification would be imprinted out side with most trusted brands, but some times there is no print on cheap chinese cables.
