No trouble at home, multiple work locations, Starbucks, airports etc.
Thank you for the detailed instructions! Will try it tonight. one router is for use in the living room while the other is for the bedroom due to the range.

I've noticed that the wifi range for the sensation is good, but not as good as my old iphone 4's. I used to be able to connect to my wifi network from my room with my iphone 4, but with the sensation it's hit and miss. Sometimes it'll connect but it'll drop it and go back to tmobile's network frequently.
Nevertheless, I just use my laptop instead to use wifi . It's easier.

do remember bro...walls inbetween fone and router do hinder the signal...so b sure the non-detectable router is brodcasting at max strength...also gimme the model and make of non-detectable router as well as probable distance from usage area.....enjoy
Check the channel setting on the non detected router it might be using some higher channels or the router might have broadcast ssid disabled .
Broadcast is definitely on as my wife's iphone can detect the network.

Is the one not being detected using 5Ghz? If so, that's the problem. Phone only works on 2.4Ghz.
Finally got it to work. Not sure how it happen tho. Thanks!

Hi all
bear with me as i am a complete android noob.
Have just got my sensation on vodafone with 750mb data
on my touch pro 2 if i wanted to tether i put the usb cable in swiched to internet tethering and all was good.
on the sensation i did exactl the same and made the default setting for usb connection type as usb tethering.
i also made sure that the wifi was switched off on both my phone and laptop
connected it up and .... nothing
I phoned up vodafone who said it wasnt locked and there should b no problems .
anybody got any advice as it was a major part of signing up to vodafone
thanks in advance
Why don't you just use your device as hot spot? Just enable hot spot in app drawer and search for WiFi connection on your laptop.
To use tethering via USB you most likely just need latest HTC sync.

Either way, it's a data hog. Did it on my Desire before I got my BB setup when I moved and used 50MB in a matter of minutes
Agree with Eddy. Phone is capable with doing almost everything laptop can in terms of.browsing, so might as well just use it.

thanks for the replies (sort of)
yes it may be a data hog ( though ive never blown my 500mb limit yet) but there are times when it suits me to use the laptop.
I will try loading up htc sync
any other ideas?
thanks
Well loading up HTC Sync cured it
Thanks
did also use the wifi hotspot which was great but its a bit more of a battery drain i guess.
Probably, as when using tethering phone is actually charging not draining battery. Real benefit of hotspot is that you can use more than one device to connect to it and obviously that there are no wires involved.

HI, we recently bought an 802.11n compatible router called Asus RT-N13U and its visible to every pc in the house inclufing the xbox 360 and the ps3 but its totally invisible to my nexus s its like it doesnt exist. We have tried disconnecting everything but still didnt work. I need help and this phone is not rooted.

Probably broadcasting on a channel which Android has disabled for your country. Switch to a channel between 1 and 12 on your router, may need to take off auto. An app like Wifi Analyzer should be able to see the network no problems.
Its on channel 11. My old was on 11 too but it worked...

Make sure you have set your router to use the 2.4GHz band, not 5GHz.
It is set to 2.4 ghz and wifi analyzer cant see it

Be sure your router was configured to WPA/WPA2 security, not WEP,and that the router is visible (Wireless SSID : ON) .

Is there any way to solve this problem, shouldnt it be possible to solve it in the software of android?

It just stops working for no apparent reason and the signal indicator fluctuates wildly. Amazingly the LTE signal is very strong and reliable, guess I'll be relying on that over wifi which just seems wrong.

If I sit in front of my router it works great but if I move a little out of the way it just doesn't work. This sucks, because otherwise I'm loving the phone.

I was curious about this too. Are you on AT&T or Rogers? I know many are reporting issues with Wireless N routers.
Supposedly it will be fixed in a firmware update.

I have a netgear, couple years old. Not sure what type though.
In the WiFi settings, under the menu, "WiFi Network Bands", select "2.4 GHz only". That improved the wifi quality significantly for me.

I can confirm that switching to "2.4 GHZ only" improved the stability for myself as well. This will have to do until HTC releases a fix.
Been using mine for about 2 hours and no WiFi issues yet. Router is an apple time capsule.

Yeah there's definitely a major issue with the wifi driver on this phone. Everyone having this issue please tweet @HTC with it.

Has anyone tried to assign a specific DHCP lease to their phone with their router to see if this solves the problem? This is killing me, I have to have a phone with flawless wifi, I don't get great cell signal where I work so I need the wifi for texting (I use google voice) / chat / email. I guess I will know more tomorrow when I get home to get mine. I tried to talk my wife to brining it to me at work but no dice there.
I currently have a galaxy nexus which has very finicky wifi as well. I have found that it is more router related than anything else. With the apple airport extreme the connection has always been perfect, but I saw here this is not the case with this phone. Fingers Crossed.
AT&T broke the WIFI on purpose for the following reason
have you use LTE.
Charge your for going over data cap
Profit?

Seems to have done the trick for me!!
From a purely RF point of view, 2.4GHz has better range than 5GHz due to being able to go through walls better. If other devices don't have issues connecting over 5Ghz from the same location, then the issue may be the WiFi antenna design and/or the case material which makes it difficult for higher frequencies to get through. This is most likely the case if by approaching the router you are able to connect over 5 GHz.

Trying it now too. Appears to be better but reserving judgement.
I just want HTC to acknowledge the issue so it will get fixed.

This would be fine but I have issues when connected to 2.4ghz when 5ghz is enabled. After I turned off 5ghz its stable so this is not a signal issue, this is some type of driver or kernel issue.

I believe your correct, hopefully HTC will adress it.In the mean time at least it's a bit more stable so far switching to 2.4
Switching your ip to static also works! lets you keep the frequencies on auto. Good for your home wifi. For other locations i guess set it back to 2.4ghz. Hopefully HTC addresses this sometime soon.
Now to be specific I'm not talking about cellular network I'm talking about sharing a wifi signal thru my phone because my phone can reach the signal but my computer cannot is there any way for me to connect and beacon the signal thru my phone I believe it's called ad hoc but not sure
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA
see if you can share the connection via usb or bt tethering
I did it once not sure how i used my phone as a wifi modem don't ask me how or what app or setting it was

It's probably easier to get a wifi repeater.
It's not as cool from a ""Look at the awesome nerdy stuff I can do" perspective...but it's probably the easiest way.
Using your phone as a repeater will be unfriendly to your battery life.
Had it pluged in comp lol

USB tethering shares wifi (at least it did in my previous phones, not tried on Sensation/CM9).
I just got this phone from AT&T yesterday, everything else is fine, but I just can't connect to the WiFi network. I can scan it, and the signal strength is normal, but everytime I try to connect, the signal suddenly drops to nothing, and it stucks at a connect-disconnected-scan-connect loop. I've already tried flashing the latest RUU (which they say it solves some of the WiFi problems) and read hundreds of threads and articles about this, I JUST CANNOT FIND A CASE SIMILAR TO ME.
Any ideas? This is so annoying because the laptop beside my gets full signal and my EVO 3D gets full too, but One X AT&T just...... Awwwwww any ideas??? 4G LTE is perfectly fine.

What radio are you using? If you are rooted and bl unlocked, you could flash the 2 09 radio that is on the devs section. If however you are stock and have no desire to root etc .. you could try restarting your phone, and your router. Also, you could try forgetting the network that you want to connect to, then try joining. I remember having this problem when I got my hox, and tgat did the trick for me.

Is the SSID hidden?
This prevented me from using my home network, and even caused the phone to reboot instantly upon connecting.
Try WPS (I think WiFi protected setup) if it is a newer router. The jist of it is you push a button on your router then select WPS on your one x and it gives you 90 seconds to connect without a password.

Exchange it. Sounds like my issue I had. But mine father trying to connect could not see any networks till I turned wifi on and off.
Restart your router.... Solved it when mine was doing the same.
