Can I move a frozen app to SD storage? - General Questions and Answers

Is it possible to freeze an app and then move it to SD storage so it uses no internal storage? I currently have to uninstall some apps so I can install others that I need at the moment, and repeat the process ad infinitum for every other app. I have already used Apps2SD and the like to move as much as I can out to SD storage. What I want to know is if it is technically feasible to ship app app to SD (app+data) (maybe putting a stub in place) and move back the actual app when needed?

Well, I didn't get any replies but what I effectively wanted to do is certainly possible, since Titanium Backup does it. I install all the apps I want to use, then run a Titanium Backup and uninstall the apps. When I need a particular app, I just uninstall something else, then restore the app (+data) I need from backup using Titanium Backup.
Problem solved.

Also Titanium Backup will give you that choice, as well as a ton of other options, like to make a backup copy of apps and their data to the sd card. Flashed my phone and restored all my programs with saved passwords data and everything using this program. The ROM I have now automatically installs all apps to the sd card unless they are required to be on the internal mem. :)

[Q] Not Enough Internal Storage

Hello,
Infuse 4g. I uninstalled Skype (which is apparently a mistake) because when I try and reinstall it, the phone locks up, black screen, and reboots upon install. The Skype app downloads fine, but will not install with out locking up the phone. Sometimes, I get a message which states I have too little of internal storage, which is at .93GB. Does any body have any suggestions for me about how to install Skype?
The phone is rooted and I have titanium backup, which I tried to reinstall that way to, same problem, the phone locks up.
Any ideas about how to get more internal storage.
Thanks
Charles
Hmm try cleaning your /data partition or going to ics

Use tibu to move some apps to sd card?

Check threads about what you can safely remove
I use TiBu and remove youtube, maps, voice apps, news apps, and other crap. I typically try to keep 90 to 100 mb free.
Do a search for things you can safely remove.
Do a tibu backup before removing. If something goes wrong you can easily reinstall it.
well, Ive removed alot of stuff I dont use, but internal storage remains at .91 GB? This is a major drag, not having Skype really sucks. What's odd, is I used to have Skype on the phone, I uninstalled it thinking it would be no big deal to reinstall it...but it will not install. Skype downloads fine, but upon installation, it will lock up the phone everytime and I must reboot. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Thanks GoSooners, but you lost me. How do I clean my data partition?

Well you can wipe your data partition but it'll uninstall your apps and undo anything you've done with your phone. Just move some large apps to sd card. You can do that by going into settings. You shouldn't see that message unless you have less than about 200-300 mb.
I am more than satisfied with the internal storage...
I dont install much apps, just essentials, it also helps when changing roms because u dont have to install all of them everytime...

unrelated that's all on the system partition which is read only and doesn't need free space..
the free space error is a market problem and unrelated to the actual free space. some kernels have a patch for this. i dont really remember the details for fixing it manually but gtg used to have a modified market and a init.d script that fixed it but that was on an old version of the market.
if you can get a current version of the apk you can side load it with a file explorer by either clicking it and letting the install program run or by moving it to /data/app with a root file explorer.
between 1+gb data partition for apps and app data and the apps2sd feature in android and 14gb internal sd storage you shouldn't have storage issues. even if you fill the sd with rom .zips and multimedia you should still never reach the 1gb /data partition because android apps simply arent that big with the exception of a few high end games that i beleive actually install to the sdcard
.93gb is a ton of space for phone apps! but is that the internal sd or the /data partition
Thanks Dani897. If I read you correctly, you believe it's a problem with the app, and not the phone? Which is what I always thought. When I first got the phone, Skype installed fine, now it does not.
Phone Info:
Samsung I-997 Infuse, rooted
Version: Froyo
Go Launcher
Internal SD Card Storage = 8.12 GB available
External SD Card Storage = 6.8 GB available
Internal Phone Storage = .92 GB
Maybe if I could somehow get an old version of Skype, maybe that would work?

Titanium Backup

I use titanium backup to restore my apps and apps data after flashing a new rom (i never use it to restore system data). On my old phone (tbolt) I would use the BATCH to restore all apps and apps data and it would do it all automatically. Now when i use it to do the same thing, I have to manually press Install then Done, Install then Done on every single app. Is there a way to make it do it again automatically so i'm not having to press install and done for every app?
Thanks
It only does that if you don't have the pro version. If you paid for pro, download it again thru the play store. If you never had it, you got lucky for a while and now you must pay.
Another method if you still have your T-bolt, or a backup of your storage card, is to look for a file in the root of the card named titanium license.txt. Move this file to the root of the internal storage on the S3, TI should check for file the next time you open the app and you will be all set.

[Q] Removing dead apps on phone?

So I restored a nandroid backup, except some of the apps aren't linked properly from the SD card anymore, so they don't show up as installed on Link2SD or anywhere else. Essentially, they're just junk, except they're taking up space on my internal memory. How can I find and remove these files, or how can I restore these apps?
U can download Rom toolbox from the play store. Then go to application manager in that app. Then click the app u want to delete them choose uninstall

Transfer App with data to other phone

I recently got hands on my OnePlus 3. I am migrating from RedMi Note 3G. Now the thing is, I have couple of apps (Whatsapp & Saavn) which have larger data (300MB and 700+MB) with them. Now I know Titanium Backup is a way to go but it is not backing up my apps saying insufficient storage available even though I have 1 GB+ available on phone and 10 GB+ on External SD(My backup location is on here).
So my question is, is there any better way for this to transfer directly?
I tried:
Easy Backup(app) - Only backs up apk.
CloneIt(app) - Only sends apk.
You can try Titanium Backup but I'll warn you, some apps and data don't restore correctly on another device.
You can also use ES file Explorer to backup the apk and then you go to your Android/data/ folder and you'll see a folder there that has the app data for that app, you can copy that folder to your extsdcard or PC then you install the apk on the other device then you copy the app data folder to the Android/data folder on the new device.
I tried Titanium Backup, it wont backup saying insufficient storage while I have more than enough on both(Phone & SD card).
I will try the other idea and let you know.
Yeah, the second option I posted, doing it manually. It backs up the same stuff Titanium would, Titanium just automates the process for you. You just need to know where to look so you can copy the app data folder for each app that you backup, then you need to know where to put back on the other device. Its a bit round-a-bout but it serves the sane purpose and will do the same job, you just have to do it yourself instead of it being convenient.
Doesn't Work. FIles get copied but app doesn't recognize them anyway.
Do an adb backup then, you can restore it with adb also.
