Gorilla Glass Display - HTC Sensation

Hey guys and gals,
I've never owned a device with Gorilla glass display since my Vibrant and I only had it for a few days. I was wondering, for those that do not use a screen protector. Is a screen protector needed?
I've always used Invisashelid but I really like the feel of just glass and if I got even the tiniest scratch I would O.C.D on it and it would dive me nuts.
So in short, does the Gorilla Glass work well enough to where you don't need a screen protector at all?
The guy at T-Mobile told me that the Sensation does not have GG but after doing to little Google-ing it seems it does. I know this is a funny question but I wanted to get peoples opinions about it before I made my phone naked (besides the case).

If you're even remotely OCD (which you claim you are)..USE PROTECTION! Then you can only blame yourself.

[Q] Any way to remove a scratch? - HTC Sensation

Hey guys..
So much for the 'invincible' Gorilla glass Not that I used the phone clumsily or anything. Have been treating it like a baby and have not even put the phone in my pocket as I am awaiting a screen protector which i ordered.
Unfortunately there seems to be a hairline scratch on the screen which is really making me tear its relatively small but running a microfiber cloth over it with my nail made me feel it very lightly.. Was wondering if whether any of you blokes could suggest a appropriate remedy for this issue..
Did go through the rest of the threads out there but there was no clear cut agreement on which method would be more safer and doable. Any ideas on how a scratch could be removed from a Gorilla glass?
Really appreciate your suggestions.
Thanks!

I suspect putting a screen protector on it now will completely disguise the scratch. Won't repair it, of course, but you shouldn't see it. If you sell it just point out it comes with a bonus screen protector already installed.

True enough A screen protector does mask out the scratch but you know.. :-S been an owner of the phone and knowing that there IS a scratch is a bit annoying. Though with all honesty, the scratch been only visible when looking at the screen from a certain angel and without any light falling on it..
Any ideas on how much a replacement screen would cost? Just to have options

I recommend finding the nearest Ghost Armor kiosk at a mall near you... They professionally install a full-body protector and are very good at getting scratches to look invisible.
I've used them ever since my Nexus One and now have it on every device!

Consider yourself lucky that you are beyond the obsessive new toy phase, and now you can start using it like a tool instead of obsessing over it. I'm always relieved when I get my first blemish. There may even be more...
I'd go with jdmarko's suggestion. If you try to polish the scratch out, you will need to use something abrasive. I'd be hesitant to do that because anything that will polish the scratch out would be abrasive in nature and might damage the rest of the phone.
I dont think there is a way to remove it.
I got the ghost armor on it first chance i had with this toy.I'm pretty bad at scratching stuff so it's definitely worth it.
@ jdmarko, jggonzalez, b00m83 - Wish i could find a place to get that done but unfortunately we dont find such joints here in Sri Lanka I have ordered a full body protector nevertheless and I am thinking of going for a Case-Mate hybrid tough case for complete protection.
@smacman - hehe, i know man but its just stinging in a way. guess i ll just have to get over it. However i am on the lookout to finding means to actually getting rid of the scratch.

was looking at that link and he seems to have had some success. unfortunately not really sure from where to find the compound he has used.
I am actually not willing to do this but just to know the options out there.
Does any one know whether its possible to get a replacement gorilla glass for any mobile for that matter? is that possible? the ones on ebay does not seem genuine gorilla to me :-S

Screen Scratch - EASILY SCRATCHED.

I know this probably shouldn't be in the General Section but I just want to help people out! Beware, The HTC Sensation does not have proper gorilla glass, gorilla glass does scratch but not that easily, today I handed over my phone to some friends and I saw them using the phone very carefully but when i got the phone back there were BIG scratches here and there on the screen! Whoever hasn't bought a screen guard PLEASE do so and remember NOT to buy the glare screen guard, but the Anti-glare one. The glare screen protector doesn't work that well under the sun and most of the time you see yourself rather than the UI on the screen even in full brightness. The Anti-glare protector works PERFECTLY.
And also guys, please help me out. The scratches are really minor but irritating. The aren't visible when holding the phone normally or looking at it from the front but when i tilt the screen I can see them. Would getting a screen guard help? Would it hide the scratches?
Sorry if this has been posted already..
I had a couple of scratches on my screen so I put a zagg screen protector on. I can't see any scratches on my screen anymore.

Sorry for repost and BUMP - Is amzer a good company? Should I order the protector?
I always keep one pocket free for "the phone pocket"... I mean sure it's gorilla glass and all, just like my galaxy S was, but I don't want to test it out!
Sorry to hear that the OP was having issues. It seems very strange that a finger could cause scratches like that... Was there some kind of debris around? Like sand or something?

Oh wow, even the G1 used Gorilla Glass. That was long time ago and before other manufacturers started bragging about their Gorilla glass equipped gadgets. The same goes for back-illuminated camera sensor. Only Apple made a big deal out of it, while EVO 4G (saw it in iFixit teardown) and possibily also other HTC phones also used back-illuminated sensors.
again i had my phone since 6/16/2011 it stay in my cargo pants pocket with keys and everything else still my phone have know scratches all i get is finger prints wich is supposed to be finger print resistance
I may not call it a scratch. It's just irritating ordered the amzer protector.
evo 4g was supposedly gorilla glass. The one day i was rocking it without a case (the superbowl, i was a little buzzed) my buddy took me on a beer run got out of the car with phone on my lap and it skidded across the cement screen down. i flipped **** picked it up only to have a scratch on the top left plastic the screen was fine.
So you let you friends see ur phone and they handed it back with scratches? Id beat some ass thats not cool

WTB HTC but concerned about screen

I lost my sgs4g recently and was looking into getting an htc sensation. One thing I'm noticing is that the screens crack pretty easily (falling from 5ft). The sgs4g has gorilla glass and I would drop it plenty of times and although it would fall apart without the case(back cover and battery pops out), the screen would never crack. From what i have seen, the htc has gorilla glass yet it cracks so easily. Why is this? Is there a screen defect with the phone? From what I've seen so far, the phone seems great but the screen issue users seem to be having concerns me.

i know of a digitizer issue but an easily crackable screen? never heard that one before
ok i read a bit further and the way most people spoke of the phone,it had me think they were one and the same. the digitizer will crack easily but the screen itself will be fine am i correct on that?
Is there anyone else that would like to chime in on this? I remember reading a thread where a person asked whether if the replacement digitizer would be gorilla glass which had me think that the digitizer and screen are one and the same. Also are there any other issues with the phone besides the digitizer that i should know about?

the display and the digitizer screen are separate pieces
the digitizer is a part of the gorilla glass screen and the display is beneath that
it doesnt crack, it shorts out and stops working properly for some. it can easily be prevented. if it happens, its an easy fix and if you want a new one you can replace it i think its about 20 bucks
oh ok great how can i prevent it? and is the easy way to fix it the software update as mentioned in a stickied thread? i basically dont want it to ever look like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142379

The Sensation does NOT have gorillaglass.
You can effortlessly push down hard enough on the digitizer to get it to touch the actual LCD panel underneath. It's an oleophobic plastic.

just from the design of our screen (curved around the edges) it could possibly make it a tiny bit weaker

micro scratches?

Is anyone else experiencing micro scratches?
I've baby'd my phone since I got it, never letting the screen touch anything, the pocket I put it in only ever has my phone it in, nothing else, ever.
Just recently after owning the phone for a little over a month now, im noticing micro scratches on the screen.
It's not normally seeable, but if your in a place with bright lighting or outside its pretty noticable and really annoying.
I figured with the gorilla glass on these things It'd wouldnt be an issue to not have a screen protector, especially for someone as careful as me.

Lol this. It sounds freaking ridiculous that something that is sharp/dangerous to us, can't damage the phone, but something we don't even think about can.
Damn Mohs, and his scale.
These phones come with an oleo phobic coating, so some of the micro scratches could be in that as well.

Really? My Gnex did too, and that felt ALOT better than the straight glass on the HOX. I love this phone, but that's one of the few things I miss about the Nexus
I'm going to try to pickup an invisible shield for it.
I figure that even though the screen protector wont fill in the scratches, the light would reflect off the invisible shield instead of the screen making the scratches less noticeable. Does that make sense?
Yes. I had a few scratches on my sensation, and I put a skinomi screen protector on it, and now you can't see the scratches.

If you would like, ATT puts them on for free in store I'm pretty sure. But the shields are expensive. I've heard some great reviews on skinomi so you could give that a shot. As far as a steamy bathroom, I usually turn on the shower for a little it really does help. Might be a placebo but I've gotten all my screen protectors near perfect.. I'm having too much fun using the phone naked though. Still contemplating getting a screen protector cause it would help with the face grease after talking on the phone.
I should be able to get an invisbleshield for fairly cheap locally.
Or I could order the bodyguardz screens online and get a 2 pack for about the same price as the invisbleshield, but then I have to wait a week.
Has anyone tried toothpaste or something else to remove the scratches? I have been contemplating it but I haven't seen any conclusive answer on what does and does not work.
From what some said, toothpaste works by grinding down the glass to get even with the scratches. Didn't sound like a good idea to me but I am open to suggestions

the toothpaste trick is NOT FOR PHONES.
Don't do it, you'll most likely scratch the **** out of your screen and make it look really foggy.

How many of you with scratches on screen?

Hi people!
For those without screen protection, how many of you with scratches on screen of the S7 flat?
No scratches on my S7
No scratches on my S5 with not even a case for almost 2 years
its not bout scratches its bout how well you take care of your phone because it comes with gorilla glass 4 so it shgould last if you take care of it.
Gorilla Glass 4 my ass. I baby my phones and have never scratched a screen until this one. Super disappointed with GG4 or Samsung's implementation...
I also take care of my phones VERY much, and can see some scratches visible on sunlight after 3 months. I never put my phone with something that can scratch it. But then again, I saw those little scratches on every phone I had. Good thing about older phones is that it wasn't so freaking hard to find a screen protector

When U live in Serbia, ordering things is a pain in the.. Neck
I have a friend that works in a larger phone accessory shop here, and he said that none of the protectors they have are full screen or that they always have bubbles.
Have U tried any? Maybe a suggestion so I know which protectors are good for ordering online.
I have a galaxy alpha with gorilla glass 4, and also have the small scratches.
These small scratches come from sand, dirt, dust that is harder than the screen and rubs against your phone in your pocket, these small scratches are unavoidable without screenprotector.
But these are small so they don't bother me, what worries me more is the back glass which is not GG4 and scratches more easy.
Hi everyone.
I've owned a Samsung Galaxy S7 SM-G930W8 Exynos edition since release date. One day around month 3 I was removing the phone from my otter box case and with the littlest bit of flexing the back glass cracked horribly. I found this to be very annoying since this is supposed to be a "prime" quality phone with gorilla glass 4. I think it was more like gurly glass 4 as I bearly flexed the phone at all and am a very caring / gentle phone user and have owned many and never cracked a case/screen ever. My question is has anyone had broken glass, front or back replaced under samsungs warranty or am I crap outta luck? I called Samsung once and they said it's not covered. Since it was not outside of proper use I feel I was fed a line. Any help or suggestions? Very dissapointed in gorilla glass 4,and Samsung for placing it all over all sides of the gs7 in a very thin manner.
Makes me rethink if I'll ever purchase another Samsung again.
Discouraged and disappointed!

Hard or rigid protectors can't cover the whole screen because the edge has a bevel. I got an anti-glare matte screen protector and it works great

Thanks for the tip!
But I don't really want a rigid protector, I mean, i have been using plastic film protectors on all my phones, because I'm very gentle with them and just want to keep them from small pocket scratches. I just need a full screen one that will go over those 2.5d edges of the glass. I also don't like those matte protectors, they totally mess up the screen quality
I had 3 years SG S4 and only one little scratch. After 3 days having S7 I have already weird "graze" (is it correct word in English?) . Is not visible when screen is clean but dirt always stay in the same place. I'm VERY disappointed. Also afraid about home button made of plastic !
My first S7 edge had a super Deep scratch right on the screen curve, stay that for awhile before it turn in a crack going across the screen.

I bought a Fosmon screen protector for both mine and my wife's S7s and they fit really well. If you apply them correctly then you won't have any bubbles. I never use the guides or anything to put it on, I just go slowly and use a credit card to smooth out bumps. Cleaning your phone screen first with alcohol and a lint free wipe cuts down on anything left on the screen to cause bubbles.

That is not at all what I was asking. My question was has anybody had this issue and had it replaced under warranty? If so what did the process entail and what was said to get it done. Since you went hostile... You might wanna to stop being a **** and start your own thread, for your own issue, instead of hijacking this thread. You broke your phone and that isn't a warranty issue, which Samsung already explained to you. He offered you info the help you quickly & easily fix your phone for very little $.
As for screen scratches on my S7, I don't have any so far. No screen protector either. I guess it's probably nerdy, but I carry my phone in a Nite-Ize holster, on my belt, and never in my pocket. So far, I've never scratched a screen on any of my phones since the OG Droid. I had a screen protector on my OG Droid, for a few months, but that's been the only one I've used.

What's your problem? Maybe you should just STFU then if you get mad bout people helping your dumb ass. You break your own phone and come in hete crying bout warranty while this treath is about scratches on the screen. So next time calm down or dont reply
Personally if your just using it day to day you wont see any scratches on your phone especially since the Galaxy S7 has gorilla glass 4. I would recommend a screen protector or even a glass screen protector if you are the type of person who chucks around their phone and doesn't really care about it.
You should be fine using it without a screen protector
