Does it boost volume of the speakerphone during calls? The speaker on the back of the Sensation goes about as loud as the earspeaker on other phones.

Meltus' only app that "officially" supports the S4G is the Volume+ sound hack. It works for me but it is not free. I think its 1.60usd. All I can say is to try it for 15 mins and play with the settings as I did or try the other threads settings to see if it works for you before the 15 mins are up.
if you reed the description, the app is paid on the market, but their is a download link of the same program, but slightly older version (still going to be updated in the future, as far as i know) that you can get from the developers website.
androidaudiohacks [dot]com/home/volume-gingerbread/download
This means try the free one, and if you want the extra features and know you like the app, get the paid app from the market
Yes it does

No Luck
I cant get volume+ to work after i bought it. It tells me "(process com.TEST.android.lvh) has stopped unexpectedly. please try again" I have PlayerPro installed. could that be causing the conflict?
ok quick question and theory here. i bought the standard case from bodyglove from tmobile with my sensation, and i just took it off and notice lil holes all over the back of the phone. i know alot of devices with speakers and mics have this to do sound cancellation and what not. if u guys got cases on maybe the case is muffling the sounds and making the volume super low just cause i thinks it doesnt have to be loud. i doubt this is the reason but just wanted to throw it out there.
You can try Equalizer from the market. I got it and it definitely works.

Good point. I have the bodyglove case as well. But i think the only speaker is on the back and top of device. So i dont think theres a problem there. Unless the case covered the top hole on right of camera.

I just got the Inspire 2 days ago and the ringer is so quiet that I can barely hear it. All of the volumes are turned all the way up and it doesn't help any. I heard that if you got the Zedge app the ringtones on there were louder but it didn't help much at all. I love the phone so far I just wish that I could hear it better.
I thought that also @ first but I think all tones vary on this phone and its odd but I've found to be ok after a while once I dabbed into all tones..

I've had my Inspire for about a week now and I have noticed that the speaker is horrible. I come from an iPhone 4 and was betweek the Atrix and the Inspire, love the screen size and really like sense but I'm concidering jumping to the Atrix as I've heard good things about the speaker but bad things about Blur so i'm not so sure what to do right now.
root flash a custom rom that has increased the sound 20% like Android Revolution or CoreDroid. If you get Android Revolution download DSP Manager, CoreDroid comes with it. With DSP you can make it even louder.
2 questions, how do I install the Rom your talking about? And I've found a few intoned on ledge that are really loud but when I go to set them it tells me that they ate over 300kb and try again. What's the point of having them on there if they're to big?

1. You will have to make a gold card, root your phone, turn s off then download the ROM you want from the developer section. You can find a video tutorial here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCcd1XQrTzE and the Hack Kit here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
2. Yes they have to be under a certain size. You can easily resolve this by downloading an app from market called Mp3 Ring tone. It has a little blue note on top of a speaker. You can stream and download music then cut them down to size (this includes your mp3 downloads as well), so they will work.
Will this app work for the notification times as well?
loved the inspire, loved the size, loved the screen, and loved the battery life with AD revolution
last friday my phone was acting a little strange, choppy etc. got a call that my wife suffered a seizure (turned out to not be one) but on the way to the hospital, my inspire froze when trying to call out, lost signal and rebooted TWICE. i could not get a hold of anyone where she was. i was so mad. the next day after she was home, i went to best buy and exchnged back to the IP4. i do miss the inspire, but as im sure some of you may agree, it was an atual "reason" to return. left a bad taste
hope to come back some day with another phone..miss android (kinda), and that nice big screen...

No, you cannot load custom iOS ROMs onto an iPhone.
Same here I use the speakerphone a lot while driving due to the law here in Cali...but figured out the problem see just like you I thought when in speakermode I'd use the Mic on the bottom usually to answer calls but my bro kept telling me I sounded far or distorted and I was like wtf serious?...if this phone is beast!!
It just hit me and decided to talk to him using the Mic next to the led lights and BAM! sound was perfect again so he said..from now on I talk facing at the camera LOL..
I don't think this is a Rom issue since I'm not rooted yet but it could be just my phone or can anyone else verify?

We're stealing the thread, but I also just figured out that the phone uses ONLY the rear mic when on speaker phone. You can yell as loud as you want into the bottom mic but you will still sound far away if you don't have the phone flipped over to speak into the back. I have not been able to find a setting that changes this, using stock Sense.

There's always risks involved when modding your cell. This was probably your fault for the inspire failing in such way I've never heard of yet.. but not hating here just my 2cents and well we all do it because its liberating and dangerous that you could end up with just a paperweight...My inspire hasnt dropped any calls at all nor having to reboot 2x just to make a call...
Left my iphone4 and never looked back because the inspire is such a beast. Been JB iphones since 1.0 and seen nasty bugs and bricks that scared the shat out of me too but itunes restore always prevailed just like RUU would..iOS just bores me completely now and thank Jeebus for jumping ships to Android, you have to jailbreak and use cydia vs marketplace that is out of the box..tralala

I ended up going back to my IP4 from the Inspire also.
Basically for me it was the horrible sound quality and low speaker volume I finally got fed up with. I did notice the reception is a bit better on the IP4.
All the regular apps I use are available on both, but they were just much smoother on the iPhone. I do miss the big screen on the Inspire.
I would also add that this situation highlights the importance of having nandroid backups on your SD. IMO you should always have a nandroid of the stock ROM (or in the case of the Inspire, as close to stock as available) so that you can fall back to a working ROM if necessary.

I feel like I have heard that dropped calls are an issue with the existing custom roms, which is why I have yet to root and try one. Well, that and I haven't really had any need to root. That may change.
Personally, I have found the call quality and reception on the stock rom to be quite good. I use a BT headset so I am not sure about speakerphone.

My only complaint is battery life which is a 4G thing. You're probably aware, but if I'm not mistaken the TB battery life is smaller than the Revo's.
Expect to disable your data a lot, and run WiFi often. There is a great dev community though!

Those headphones may not be compatible with the ThunderBolt either. I use the Bose MIE2 and they are very nice but pricey. Good sound, especially with the equalizer set to R&B, call button works and I use software to also use the call button to advance tracks and boost the volume occasionally when outdoors.
Some people have problems with the phone rebooting and occasional data connectivity issues but this is probably being fixed soon. I don't have these problems any more and I suspect the great majority of people have these issues very infrequently or not at all. Biggest issue for most people is battery life but I'm used to having a couple of spare batteries on all my phones so I don't give it a second thought.
Thanks, Robrecht
the only common problem seems to be reboots that they are releasing a fix for. Of course that fix has been delayed at least once.
My wife and I have only had 1 reboot each in 2 weeks with the phones. Other than that, it bogs down occasionally so I have a task killer I use manually when that happens. The phone takes forever to reboot...
Battery life sucks. You can do all those things that are counterproductive to having a smartphone like turning off data, turning off wifi, turning down the screen brightness...
I just bought 2 extra batteries with chargers so I switch them out as needed. The thunderbolt is pretty slow at charging batteries. I could go from 20-30% on my hd7 to a full charge in around an hour, but this phone takes 3-4.
Overall, it is a good android device. Right now for verizon it's either lte (thunderbolt, charge, revolution) or dual core (x2).
I went for the network speeds and don't regret it.
If you are worried about your headphones not working with a phone, make sure to test the headphones on the Thunderbolt display model before buying.

So that being said you are saying this will not work in the TB either? That wouldn't make any sense to me being as its HTC phone and every HTC phone I have had (many) has had 3.5mm jack compatibility ....?

I have three Sensation 4g's on Tmobile, and the microphone gain on *all* of them is very low. Everyone that we call has problems hearing us. Unless I cup the entire bottom of the phone and direct my speech right into the mic, it is very difficult for the listener to hear me.
Have any of you experienced this as well? Since it is like this on all three on my phones, I suspect it is a problem with the Sensation 4g and not my particular phones.
Is there a way to boost the mic gain? We love the phone in ever other respect (except for the pathetic speakerphone!) .. but this is turning out to be a deal breaker.
Thanks.
My wife and I both have Sensations. Nobody has ever told us they couldn't hear us and when we talk to each other, we can hear each other loud and clear. I don't know what's going on but it seems odd to be happening on all 4 of your phones.
Mic volume is good with me on two Sensations.

Thanks for putting down your experiences. If you don't mind my asking, how do you hold the phone? Is the listener able to hear you loud and clear if you hold the phone from the upper half of the phone, slightly angled away from the cheek (so that only the ear piece is touching the ear, and the rest of the phone doesn't touch the face)? Do you press the phone against your cheek to move the mic closer?
Thanks!
I would appreciate others' experiences as well. Need to decide soon if we're gonna trade the phones in for something else. On that note, any other Tmobile phones worth getting?

To tell you the truth, I don't have a certain way of holding my phone. I guess I usually hold it with the earpiece being the only part of the phone touching me and other times I hold it between my shoulder and cheek with no hands. I've never had anyone complain they couldn't hear me and I have never had a instance where I can't hear my wife load and clear.

I have the same problem. We have 3 sensations and especially the one that I have seems to have a low profile microphone or something. I get complaints all the time that people can't hear me. I believe WiFi calling make it worse for some reason. When I am on WiFi calling people complain more. But in general I believe there is a problem. I think this could also be related to voice tone and the way that voice cancellation optimizes the tone. If we are lucky, there could be a software update in future for this problem.

Update: Success after disabling wifi-calling
Thanks for the hint ceroglu. I disabled wifi calling and it immediately made a world of difference. The difference microphone gain ridiculous. It goes from barely intelligible, to *loud* even with the phone away from one's face. I wonder what causes this? I barely get any cellular signal at work, and the wifi calling would be useful. Wonder if this will be fixed after CM7 or something is release for it?
any fix yet?
I want to add to this, even though it was a while ago. My mother and my girlfriend both have this issue on both of their HTC Sensation 4g's. Has anyone came up with a solution? Neither of them use Wifi Calling. Both are stock roms not rooted, and no matter who talks on the phone they are extremely quiet on everyone elses phone when they call. My girlfriend is going to start wanting another phone here soon, so I was hoping there was a fix rather than spend a ton of money (which we don't have). Thanks

Sensation XE mic
I have also had people complain about it from my Sensation XE. I did a comparison with my old HTC Desire and the difference in call quality is massive. Not only is the mic a lot clearer on the other end but the ear-speaker is a lot clearer at my end too.
The Sensation XE sounds muffled, when people say they can't hear me (or usually "what?!") I speak louder, but actually it just makes it worse for the listener as the sound becomes more unclear/muffled the louder I talk.
Hope there is a fix soon from wither HTC (which I doubt) or a dev
So, as title says. Anyone know of one that works on non-rooted ONE X?
Yes for the speaker, since I find it so low. I want to increase it for music and games.
I dont plan on rooting or modding my phone. Hopefully theres something out there.
Volume+ which has both a paid and free app on the Play Store (free version has less features). But the paid app is also available free on the dev's website (forum signup required).
Read the dev's cautions, as boosting the volume over what the device is designed for can damage the speaker.
So far tried 3 different versions of VOL+ from newest to older. None of them work. Hmmmm
Turning the knob to max doesnt do crap. Tried 1-8 1-15 and nothing.
