Coming soon to a thunderbolt near me. - Thunderbolt General

Bringing my Revolution back as soon as I can (Saturday) because...among other things ... the headphone jack isn't compatible with my beats by Dre. Anyways I have been reading about the thunderbolt and I think I am going to really love it ans I cant wait. Anyways I was just wondering what are the common problems being had with this phone and have they been fixed or been in the process of being fixed? Mainly ask this because I have heard some bad things about this phone dojng rrandom stupid things like rebooting 20 times a day etc...?

My only complaint is battery life which is a 4G thing. You're probably aware, but if I'm not mistaken the TB battery life is smaller than the Revo's.
Expect to disable your data a lot, and run WiFi often. There is a great dev community though!

Awesome I am excited...yea I get really good battery life with my revolution but its all good I stay near my charger hahah

Those headphones may not be compatible with the ThunderBolt either. I use the Bose MIE2 and they are very nice but pricey. Good sound, especially with the equalizer set to R&B, call button works and I use software to also use the call button to advance tracks and boost the volume occasionally when outdoors.
Some people have problems with the phone rebooting and occasional data connectivity issues but this is probably being fixed soon. I don't have these problems any more and I suspect the great majority of people have these issues very infrequently or not at all. Biggest issue for most people is battery life but I'm used to having a couple of spare batteries on all my phones so I don't give it a second thought.
Thanks, Robrecht

the only common problem seems to be reboots that they are releasing a fix for. Of course that fix has been delayed at least once.
My wife and I have only had 1 reboot each in 2 weeks with the phones. Other than that, it bogs down occasionally so I have a task killer I use manually when that happens. The phone takes forever to reboot...
Battery life sucks. You can do all those things that are counterproductive to having a smartphone like turning off data, turning off wifi, turning down the screen brightness...
I just bought 2 extra batteries with chargers so I switch them out as needed. The thunderbolt is pretty slow at charging batteries. I could go from 20-30% on my hd7 to a full charge in around an hour, but this phone takes 3-4.
Overall, it is a good android device. Right now for verizon it's either lte (thunderbolt, charge, revolution) or dual core (x2).
I went for the network speeds and don't regret it.

If you are worried about your headphones not working with a phone, make sure to test the headphones on the Thunderbolt display model before buying.

besides netflix, what is better on the revolution?

I have the ibeats with sound control, and the button controls send and end and long pressing pulls up voice search. You do have to go into call settings and set tty to vco but it does work.

Just to be clear...when I say they do not work I am not talking about tthe control talk. I am talking about unless I physically hold my headphone connector into the jack It doesn't stay contacted enough to even play music really? So that being said you are saying this will not work in the TB either? That wouldn't make any sense to me being as its HTC phone and every HTC phone I have had (many) has had 3.5mm jack compatibility ....?

My take on the MT4G ... a list of things it doesn’t do that my Sprint Evo did

It doesn’t fail to connect to my VW’s Bluetooth system.
It doesn’t sporadically connect to my Mitsubishi’s Bluetooth system … sometimes in the middle of a call.
It doesn’t force me to reset my Bluetooth when I switch to the charged headphones while the previously used unit charges.
It doesn’t lock up while syncing data causing the battery to discharge at an alarming rate.
It doesn’t discharge the batter at a fast rate just for normal use.
It’s doesn’t force me to turn off extra functions (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) to get reasonable battery life.
It doesn’t lock up occasionally and force me to rest it.
It doesn’t all of the sudden turn into a hand warmer and again force me to reset it.
And to me that’s the point. Sprint screwed the pooch when it upgraded the Evo to 2.2 and failed to allow uses to downgrade their OS back to the originally installed version. Probably a cost saving measure, but one that cost them at least this customer.
So to anyone on the fence about getting a MT4G, I think the beauty of this phone is that it just works. Works in ways you expect smart phones to work, but just about all current phones don’t seem to accomplish. Who doesn’t want a cell phone that does that!

why i HAD to leave the Inspire :(

loved the inspire, loved the size, loved the screen, and loved the battery life with AD revolution
last friday my phone was acting a little strange, choppy etc. got a call that my wife suffered a seizure (turned out to not be one) but on the way to the hospital, my inspire froze when trying to call out, lost signal and rebooted TWICE. i could not get a hold of anyone where she was. i was so mad. the next day after she was home, i went to best buy and exchnged back to the IP4. i do miss the inspire, but as im sure some of you may agree, it was an atual "reason" to return. left a bad taste
hope to come back some day with another phone..miss android (kinda), and that nice big screen...
anyway..jsut thought i would share..

No, you cannot load custom iOS ROMs onto an iPhone.
Same here I use the speakerphone a lot while driving due to the law here in Cali...but figured out the problem see just like you I thought when in speakermode I'd use the Mic on the bottom usually to answer calls but my bro kept telling me I sounded far or distorted and I was like wtf serious?...if this phone is beast!!
It just hit me and decided to talk to him using the Mic next to the led lights and BAM! sound was perfect again so he said..from now on I talk facing at the camera LOL..
I don't think this is a Rom issue since I'm not rooted yet but it could be just my phone or can anyone else verify?

We're stealing the thread, but I also just figured out that the phone uses ONLY the rear mic when on speaker phone. You can yell as loud as you want into the bottom mic but you will still sound far away if you don't have the phone flipped over to speak into the back. I have not been able to find a setting that changes this, using stock Sense.

There's always risks involved when modding your cell. This was probably your fault for the inspire failing in such way I've never heard of yet.. but not hating here just my 2cents and well we all do it because its liberating and dangerous that you could end up with just a paperweight...My inspire hasnt dropped any calls at all nor having to reboot 2x just to make a call...
Left my iphone4 and never looked back because the inspire is such a beast. Been JB iphones since 1.0 and seen nasty bugs and bricks that scared the shat out of me too but itunes restore always prevailed just like RUU would..iOS just bores me completely now and thank Jeebus for jumping ships to Android, you have to jailbreak and use cydia vs marketplace that is out of the box..tralala

I ended up going back to my IP4 from the Inspire also.
Basically for me it was the horrible sound quality and low speaker volume I finally got fed up with. I did notice the reception is a bit better on the IP4.
All the regular apps I use are available on both, but they were just much smoother on the iPhone. I do miss the big screen on the Inspire.
I would also add that this situation highlights the importance of having nandroid backups on your SD. IMO you should always have a nandroid of the stock ROM (or in the case of the Inspire, as close to stock as available) so that you can fall back to a working ROM if necessary.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I feel like I have heard that dropped calls are an issue with the existing custom roms, which is why I have yet to root and try one. Well, that and I haven't really had any need to root. That may change.
Personally, I have found the call quality and reception on the stock rom to be quite good. I use a BT headset so I am not sure about speakerphone.

Should I?

Alright guys, I just saw pictures of the new Droid Bionic and I gotta say.....WOW. I am really blown away and I think I really want this, plus, moto said there going to unlock bootloaders (not quite sure why everyone forgot this http://pocketnow.com/android/motorola-promises-android-bootloader-unlock-in-late-2011). What do you guys thing? This phone is one hell of a beast but I also am in love with sense but blurs been winning me over. Thoughts?!?!?
2 fascinates and 2 droid x's later i can say if it aint stock android or htc sense i dont want it.
If it has unlocked bootloader so u can run cm7 then thats a different story but dont hold ur breath.
It's all personal preference. If you want to shell out the money for a bionic go ahead. I am quite happy with my thunderbolt. I really don't see how my experience can be improved much. But then again personal experiences vary.

My expierence with the TB has been great but im definitly worried about our longevity because every time i think about it, the TB just seems like a test bed device for 4G. Ill be honest, the only thing holding me back is HTC Sense because I love the heck out of HTC Sense but I really need that next gen power.
I say give the Bionic a look. The hardware looks great and the new Blur is actually really good.

Thats moto official right there, of course there going to do it (Okay I do realize i sound pretty nieve right there), but still Verizon confermed that they have no problems with letting unlocked bootloaders on their networks so I dont see why it wouldnt happen

No Brainer
HTC Thunderbolt
1) When we need to have conference call we use anyone else's phone because the external speaker on the TB sounds like crap.
2) The ear speaker is so high pitched and scratchy sounding it actually hurts!
3) Mine has a bad head phone amp. (can't add base).
4) battery lasts 4 hours.
5) Takes forever to find satellites.
6) Random reboots.
7) Who needs sense when 3rd party launchers and widgets are better and more configurable.
I could keep going but you're probably bored already. The only thing good about the HTC is it's looks. I'd go for the Moto or wait for a dual core Samsung.
@mcargil05
It sounds like you've had nothing but problems. I am surprised you haven't traded the TB for something else. My speakerphone & ear speaker are no better or worse than any other phone I've used. When I stream music over audiogalaxy thru my car aux port, it sounds as good as my ipod. If your phone amp is bad, that should be covered by warranty & you should be able to swap phones. If you're only getting 4 hours between charges, that's definitely a hardware issue or bad battery, or both. I got 7+ hrs on stock before flashing a battery-sipping kernel (16-20 hrs now). GPS lock in 3-7 secs depending on whether I'm indoors. I had a couple of random reboots right after flashing GB-based rom, but nothing since. It's true that Sense is kinda "take it or leave it", not a lot of customizing options there. But I think it's pretty good for a stock app & it does what I need it to do. I used Launcher Pro on my Captivate & Nexus One, and I don't miss it enough to ditch Sense. Some ppl absolutely despise Sense, so there will always be demand for alternative launchers & widgets. Good luck with your TB, if you decide to keep it.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I would trade my Bolt for a Bionic IF the bootloader is unlocked. And I wouldn't be an early adopter on the Bionic. I would only buy it after CM7 is stable on the phone. And by that time... Kal El Tegra 3 phones will be out nearly (they're due by X-Mas, and the Bionic isn't due out until August).
I would say, if you have a Thunderbolt, it's probably best to wait until Xmas/CES time the end of this year/early next year. There are going to be some crazy phones out in 6-9 months from now.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I am good with the Thunderbolt until early next year when we have a new crop of phones. I wanted to the Moto, but was on blackberry and didn't want to wait until the moto dropped when we kept getting pushed back to get 4g and Android goodness.
The battery could be better but I have 3 spare batteries and an external charger for them so it is all good.
Personally the screen is the killer for me. The crappy light leakage, terrible in bright lighting, and don't get me started on the spot lights. Terrible blacks. I bought a $4300 65" plasma to get an amazing picture, why would I not want that kind of picture on my phone if possible.
I dont see how comparing a $4300 dollar TV and a phone makes any sense.

Love my TBolt. Everything has been great with it so far. All the whining you are hearing are from people who haven't tinkered with their phone. Things like low battery life can be solved in a matter of minutes and a google search. I am now going on 10 hours with 65% battery left, which is better than my old X.
Plus I got it on a 2 year plan so 1. I will hopefully be grandfathered into 4G and 2. Will have plenty of time to see how new phones are going to develop before jumping right into them (Kind of like what I did with my TB).
I see nothing but good for the TB for at least another year. Soon the RIL will be released alongside of Gingerbread with 4G speeds. Come on you can't go wrong.

I came from an enV Touch(piece of dog crap) and kept it the full 2 years, I don't know how you guys can afford to switch phones every few months haha. Am I the only person who stays on the same phone the full 2 years?
Well anyway, coming from a non-smartphone this thing is incredible(not htc)!
-Super Amoled+ screen is awesome, it makes the screen on my dads Droid X look like crap!
-Battery life is alright, just calibrate the battery then download JuiceDefender and you'll have around %30 battery left by the end of the day with some heavy usage.
-Microphone quality is fantastic, first day of having the phone people were telling me I sounded a lot better(and the enV Touch had a pretty great mic!)
-Speaker is awesome, VERY loud. A few of my family members complain about their smartphones being great but they can hardly hear stuff through the speakers. You won't have that problem with the Charge.
GET READY FOR THE DOWNSIDES TO THIS PHONE:
-It sucks out of the box. It needs some modifications to be the perfect everyday phone, kernel change, ROM flashes etc. The software on it is just sluggish and ugly to look at. You could use Launcher Pro but I went the flash route.
-Putting the phone to your ear is quite uncomfortable. I noticed this on my first day of owning the phone and it's quite annoying. I just turn the sound up a little bit and hold it away from my face, you'd think this would get annoying but it's really not even noticeable anymore. Still kind of sucks how uncomfortable the metal is on your face when making a call.
WELL THERE YOU GO! Those are all my favorite pros and cons about the Charge, none of the cons turned me away from this phone at all. I still love this thing, I was considering waiting until the Galaxy S2 came out in the U.S. but I needed a phone now, I'm very glad I chose to get the Charge because it really blew me out of the water. I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I did :]

Any rumors on CM7 for the Charge? How is dev support for Charge community?
My charge shipped out yesterday (monday) and it'll be here wednesday, I was told it was being overnighted. The rep at vzw said the 4g sim card was coming with the phone and I just had to *228 to activate it. Is 2.3.5 any good?

Does it change battery life for the better?
Are data connections actually more reliable?
Any other real improvements??
I no longer have my Nexus, but I will buy another one in a second if the battery life is improved!
UPDATE:
Ok, so far it looks like people are indeed seeing improved signal and speeds.
What seems up in the air is the speaker volume (some are louder, some are not...)
Also unanswered as yet is how this update affects battery life. At least one person is saying his battery has gotten worse...

Thanks. In terms of signal being better, is dBm better, or just the # of bars present? (they apparently jacked up the # of bars that show for a given signal strength, similar to what Apple did with the iPhone 4...)

Better meaning...louder? If so, does it get distorted when cranked?

Every small cellphone speaker will distort when turned all the way up. It definitely gets much louder than before which is great for my morning alarm.
It is louder, it was not cracking on mine but the music I listen to doesn't have heavy bass. I should try listening to some club music to test it out lol

I wonder which developer is working on this version right now
I think it would be better getting opinions after a week. Tonight, for my area at least, there was a data outage. I called sprint on another issue and they knew about the data and said it was nationwide. I made the impatient mistake (again) of using the samsung flasher back to stock. Every time I do that, I have to call sprint and have them reset something with my phone and the towers. I get error 16's.
am i missing something.........how are people testing the speakerphone? that is the only thing I really wanted from this update (along with 3G updates since I don't get 4G), and I notice no difference WHATsoever.
were they referring to alarm sounds, music, phone calls....what? did anyone have to perform a hard reset to notice the difference? the sounds have no difference in volume to me, especially phone calls and music.
Wow, google effed this one up. I now have a constant connection to my airave, full bars all the time. Only problem is I cant recieve calls now, they go straight to voicemail. Sprint rep says its a technical issue with the update and it will be looked into. In the mean time I have to unplug my airave and roam at home :/
Yea, as long as signal bars are not green I can recieve a call, as soon as they turn green it goes straight to voicemail. Also, my phone does ring alot louder now.
I've seen really no difference from 2.3.4 to 2.3.5.

^^^wondering this as well. I get complaints from people off echoing when using speaker phone I was assuming this was the issue it addressed, but i am not so sure now. I have seen numerous reports that the update kills the free hotspot and tether, but saw a few people that had it intact still. Can I get a confirm on this?

We are talking about the speaker (as in playing music), not speaker phone per se.
well that kinda sucks. I was hoping it was about the echoing when in speaker phone. Any one else have complaints from people on the other end when using speaker phone?

Did you try to reinstall the update?
Why doesn't everyone quit whining like a gaggle of *****es and realize that the boot time is about 4 seconds total, steaming lag is gone in the browser and we have a improved radio? Damn, you would think that someone in this forum would have enough common sense to realize that he who cannot do better should shut his trap.

All my tethering options are now gone. I can select them, but once they're active my 3G disappears. I have to turn off the tethering, then reboot my mobile data to get it back. I guess this is their way of making people pay for it.
