What would you like your sensation to be after S-Off? - HTC Sensation

S-off is near and HTC Sensation is a great device! for me, i want my sensation to be the HD2 successor. dual boot Windows Phone and Android is kind of cool !!!

i agree 100%, ive completely given up on HTC in terms of bootloader and userful OTA's, XDA will continue to be the gold standard for HTC fones...
the only other phone i would consider is the herc, but thats several months away, which gives me plenty of time to play with my S4G (especially if teamwin drops fre3dom soon)

I got a reply from HTC after bugging then for 2 weeks and they still say "there is no roadmap for this feature to be rolled out" regarding the bootloader.

I'd like to control what my phone is running (even if that ends up being stock Cyanogen)... I killed a load of apps last night and doubled my free memory.
Also I can't forget that comment where some Sensation owner said they had tried the SG2 and it actually felt like a dual core device... placebo I am sure but my old HD2 was as fast as my Sensation so am looking forward to that ramp up.

thats what i noticed as well, i had 2.2.1 w/ sense 2.1, and it was just as fast...and just before i sold it i was messing with pyramid roms on the HD2, and after like 8 settling reboots, its was almost as quick, but with the expected glitches (rosie, camera, etc.)
i know its dual core, but it doesnt run like one, we need ASOP or a clean 2.3.3 w/sense3.0, but 2.3.4 has optimizations and fixed for dual core, i think the S4G will FLY when that is flashed

I want it to be an HD2 successor too. Ideally I'd like root & CM7, but I'll just settle for root for now just so I can freeze the damn bloatware.

Although having said all that, am I right in thinking that there is absolutely no benefit to dual core over single before we see Android 2.4 or whatever build number they give to 'Ice Cream' ?

Would appear to be the case, until we get full root, we won't know for sure

+3 Leo is fast running that new shiz! Ram is low low low on SG4 ,disappointing, however, LEO is the best allrounder!

I would like for my phone to feel like a dual core device and mult-itask a bit better.
Mostly I would like a bloat free, optimized for sensation, sense 3.0 rom running on here.

I would like the ability to change default apps
- specifically the link between the Contacts and Calendar address button to Google Maps instead of HTC Locations!
I can't believe they downgraded functionality i had on my Hero!
EDIT: Also, I'd really like to be able to customise the options in the 'Quick Settings' tab in the pulldown menu. Screen brightness and sound profile should be in there by default.

I came from an HD2 also ,so it was gonna be tough for any phone to beat it with all the dev support that phone got , I'd really just want a little more speed and for it to be rooted so I can enjoy all my favorite apps that require root ,but as I said before ill take any update that solidifies the phones system at this point

I would want this phone to be the nexus phone that never came out. Throw on some aosp or cm7, which ever is more stable, and this phone will be lightning fast.
I don't know if anyone else has noticed it but the sensation looks like the nexus one and nexus s with a 4.3 in screen

ARHD I hope everything will be better (I hate lag, especially on a dual core phone )

my three wishes...
If nothing else, I want to phone to be faster/smoother. This does not feel like a dual core processor at all. My HD2, on NAND android, moved just as fast with regards to screen swiping and processes. Second, I would like to have the magnifying glass search button to me able to lock the screen on long press. That would be epic. Get rid of Sense since I can't adjust the size of widgets I want to add. Keep the lock screen but scrap Sense. I would be happy.

try colorize widgets made by an xda member and has awesome widgets use to be free not sure if it still is.
also here is a list of the lg widgets from optimus x2 that are compatible.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046267
Launcher pro plus has a whole set of widgets that are very similiar to the Sense widgets. You can resize them also so they don't take up the whole screen.
Two options for you..
Colorize widget and Photo contacts widget. Not sure they will work in the stock launcher.
Photo contacts widget has been much better in my personal use but not better than the LPP widget.

Launcher Pro has the most htc sense like widgets, the dev has built in many widgets that almost duplicate HTC's sense widgets. Also, you can get fancy widget for free today from amazon app store. It will do the same thing the weather app does for weather animations etc..
1+ Launcher Pro
It has a friends stream which combines Twitter, Facebook, gmail, sms, etc.
It also has separate widgets for each (which is what I use).
The latest version you can also theme them, which is awesome. I'm using the "Clouds" one. Sweetness.
Launcher Pro is the best!

yeh took about year of development for the hd 2 to be in its current stable...I got the phone when it was still under window os I wanted to throw that **** out the window every other hour it crashed,
On the other hand the g2x hasn't given me any major problems yet other than the battery life but I had to suffer a similar scenario with the hd2

Sensation uses qualicalm old rusty chipset architecture. It will be a nice phone don't get me wrong, just won't be able to do what tegra 2 can do in the right developers hands. Unlocked bootloader developer support from lg and nvidia, I couldn't do the sensation, but it is a nice phone for a person that doesn't mod their phone.

i agree. i bought my hd2 day they came out after 6 or more sold out stores! but yeah it took a while for the development to get caught up and you can do almost anything to an htc phone. i like the g2x but my heart belongs to htc and i love sense roms. the front camera isnt quite as nice as g2x but i believe it will be a monster once the devs get a hold of it. the hardware is impressive even though its slightly older technology.
but you are talking dual 1.2GHz chips and more ram.....i think they will both be insanely fast once development gets in full swing. just my.02

Engadget had a post today saying that HTC was considering unlocking the bootloader.
In a market where the (good) phones are currently even so far as specs are concerned, a company would be shooting themselves in the foot by restricting a system that the others are leaving open.
My 2 cents.
My other 2 cents is if you can wait, then wait. Play with the Sensation when it comes out. You like it, buy it. You don't, buy the G2x.
My last bit of change, if you are content for the time being with the phone you have, don't jump for either until at least a month after the Sensation has come out. Right now, the G2x user experience for the majority of us is frustrating and I can only imagine the Sensation will be the same. Just wait and see what comes of both of them.
Get all of them!!!!! :d:d:d:d:d
I posted a TON of information why I didn't like the Sensation. The encrypted locked bootloader was high on the list but here are others:
-The Tegra 2 is like 33% more powerful then the dual-core snapdragon
-HDMI/microUSB = No HDMI Out + Charging (since no TV's support the MDLP yet)
-Locked encrypted Bootloader + New Sense = Mercy of HTC for bug fixes
-NVidia pushing devs for enhanced Tegra Apps = No go on non-Tegra devices
-Lower Res Front Camera
It does look like a sexy phone though. We'll see what problems it has out of the box compared to the G2x.
The G2x does have its problems but Tegra chips are new. Most work pretty well out of the box. Most of the issues we have is from the phone shipping with a 2.2 Kernel and everyone is flashing the leaked 2.3.3 rom. The drivers and stuff get funky but we're expected to get an updated kernel soon (the OS was already leaked).
I would agree though that I would wait a few weeks. While the G2x is great, it would be best to know your options to what best suites you. The Sensation is due out soon and you can compare the two side-by-side.
If the bootloader was unlocked, I could "possibly" live with the other stuff.
Wait and see what our big gingerbread update looks like on the g2x because like someone said before, this has been a frustrating experience so far... once we get that bad boy out and assuming it is a stable, quality build with much better driver support then the sky is the limit with this device! it will be the tegra2 flagship phone for the next 18 months
few things about the sensation that bothered me from my n1, and this is an HTC issue, their external speakers are a joke to say the least, poorly positioned, horrible sound, never loud enough... the g2x's external speaker is pretty solid in my opinion. And the HTC cameras are nothing to brag about either. I saw a video of both phones doing 1080p recording and the Sensation had a horrible red-shift problem...

Honestly, I love this phone but the lack of custom ROMs is starting to annoy me. I want a damn MIUI ROM or at least something other than CM7 and EaglesBlood (I love AOSP though but MIUI on top of AOSP would be perfect). HTC phones always seem to end up with the most development behind them and their touch panels are some of the most sensitive in the industry (quite unlike the G2x which annoys the hell out of me sometimes with how hard I have to press on it). I think the tides will start to turn on HTC development though with the locked bootloaders.
That said, between HTC, LG, and Samsung - I'd pick the Samsung. For one, HTC uses Snapdragon chips - Qualcomm has a long (very long) history of promising that their chips will do this, that, the third, and even the fourth - but they never come through. Tegra 3 is coming out this year though and that's going to be a beast to contend with - the Exynos from Samsung absolutely decimates the Tegra 2.
Build quality on my Captivate was phenomenal - I've never had an HTC phone with great build quality - and that's going all the way back to the PPC-6800. There have always been issues. This is my first LG phone and while I enjoy it a lot, the touch panel sensitivity is a huge issue when I'm gaming and really needs to be fixed.
Also, HTC tends to say that the phone has "x" amount of storage space but what really happens (like what happened with the Inspire) is they partition and format it in a way that means you get slightly less than half what they advertise. HTC also has a history of shoddy driver support.
The only pro I see with the HTC is how fast HTC does device updates - that said, they're always sloppy releases and devs have to take them apart anyway - add in the locked bootloader and I don't really see a lot of devs going that way. Also the TegraZone is quickly growing - developers are really taking to the Tegra platform and producing some astounding applications as a result. There is no Qualcomm or Samsung zone and Tegra-optimized applications will not run on another chipset.

Thinking of getting rid of Sensation for g2x....

The sensation is a great phone, but there are some things that bother me about it. Sense 3.0 is just too much...uses too many resources. The screen is decent, but I still can't figure out why the g2x screen I saw in person looks better (maybe because the g2x is an IPS screen?), and the speaker on the sensation is terrible (how is the speaker on the g2x)?
I've been reading that the official gingerbread update has (so far) fixed some issues that the g2x had, which is why I'm thinking about making the switch.
Any opinions on this?
honestly as this recent leak is, cm7 is still better and more stable with alot of extra features, until t-mo releases the official ota with upgraded baseband and upgraded to a gingerbread kernel, this update is still inferior to cm7 imo
gingerbread is still far off, if this is the latest rom LG has, then i wouldnt say its close to being pushed to t-mo for review wich still leaves us a few months away from anything official, unless they really plan to make the final update run on a kernel that doesnt even fully support the tegra 2 chip.

Both phones are great. Had the G2x but switched it out for the sensation. I have no regrets because the G2x was very problematic. I guess I was one of those unlucky ones that got a bad g2x (reboots, freezes, shutdowns, etc).....and I had 2 G2x and both phones were bad and I didn't want to wait for the update lol. However, a working nondefective G2x is a beast phone nonetheless. It's faster than the sensation imo.
The sensation on the other hand is also a great phone. And im Lucky that I got a nondefective one from the start. I prefer the sensation over the G2x but it all comes down to the user itself.
Im not boasting or bragging or putting down any phone, just stating my personal experiances with these phones.

The g2x is an awesome gaming phone with all the tegra games and stuff.
The sensation i feel is a little more boring but more reliable and professional looking. Also i noticed that by disabling sense and the bloatware that cane with the phone, ive been able to make it as fast if not faster than the g2x. Specially the browsing. I dont have the problem where it takes a while for the browser to open abd once it opens its seems to reopen the last website, which i belive was due to my g2x running low on memory.

I traded my g2x for a sensation, them back to the g2x. The g2x is way better..
Sensation wifi was horrid..
Kept my G2X but use my Sensation as my daily driver. The only time I really pick the G2X up is to play Tegra games or flash ROMS. Like someone else said, if you keep Sense on the Sensation, your phone will be laggy. HTC did a horrible job of optimizing the new version of Sense. If you load ADW on the Sensation, the UI will become as fast, if not faster than the G2X. Loading apps, using Google maps and browsing the web has always been faster on the Sensation than on the G2X whether your running Sense or not. Getting rid of Sense and stopping it from running makes the UI as responsive as one could get.
Can't go wrong with either phone. I didn't have a bad experience with either of them (until I loaded GB onto my G2X). Some people had a bad experience with the G2X and went to the Sensation. Some people had a bad experience with the Sensation and came back to the G2X. To each his own.

Well, looks like I'm keeping my sensation.
Installed launcherpro, and for some reason it even opens up apps quicker now (even though sense 3.0 is still there running in the background). I also love the fact that I can still use the sense 3.0 lockscreen with launcherpro. Phones feels like an entirely new beast now.

Yea man...Sense sucks anyway. The only things good about it is the lock screen, sms app, contacts and email. Everything else is just annoying eye candy. Good part about using a launcher is you get to keep all of that without the eye candy.
Check your available memory now. It should be somewhere around 300. Also, if you think LP is fast, check out ADW.

If you are a developer then get the G2x, but if you are looking for a overall solid phone for day to day use, keep the Sensation. But if you don't etheir one, then can't go wrong with either phone. The Sensation is more powerful as it uses a better GPU.
The screen on the sensation is superior in some ways, just overall looks sharper and alot more more detail. But the G2x, colors look more vibrant.
WiFi issue I notice to, if you touch around the top area and when signal is fair, then drops, but with a stonger signal, not as bad. Notice it doesn't affect the other radio's inside.
But the G2x seem quicker, but battery last more longer on the sensation, I guess theirs tradeoff's ethier way you look at it.
Long term Sensation is a better choice, In quadrant test score lower due to screen resolution is higher and does affect the score, but CPU/GPU is better in the Sensation as it use a powerful 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor with Adreno 220 GPU, which is known to outpreform the Nvidia terga 2 chipset, only thing lacking is the ram which is 768MB LPDDR2, which is good, they sure have when to 1gb. Alot of people think the Samsung Galaxy s2 is going to be faster, it's not, it only use a Adreno 205 GPU, but the ddr II 1gb ram helps but screen resolution also make a big different, put the same screen in all and see who wins?
I didn't have any problems with my G2X to begin with, but updated to the GB update and it runs even quicker and the battery life is also better.
One thing that deterred me from getting the Sensation was the locked bootloader and only 1gb of internal memory. Not all apps can be moved to the SD card. Plus I think the G2X looks sexy with it's curved Gorilla glass edges and sleek body. stock Vanilla is a big plus, and the dual speakers at the bottom of the phone and not on the back that get's muffled was another deciding factor. HTC always has crappy sounding speakers.

[Q] I jumped ship to htc to try the htc sensation and regretting it.

i recently jumped ships and bought an htc sensation 4g (tmous) and i rooted it yadda yadda yadda flashed insert coin, leedroid, and revolutionhd nonsense.
now coming from a galaxy s vibrant running bali 1.8.8 kernal, bionix v 1.3.1 and lcd density set at 192 which all worked so good for me.
i need you guys to tell me this is a good phone and i should keep it bc i want to give it a shot however all the roms i flash for the sensation are slow for me.
im looking for a clean no sense build and revolutionhd no sense is that rom. when i run a quadrant the phone gets about a 850 900 on revolution hd. i kno quad scores dont mean much but the phone feels sluggish and slow.
can someone direct me on what im doing wrong and why this phone appears to run so slow? i mean really slow. is this how htc phones perform? my last htc phone was a mt3gslide running cm6 at the time
Try revolution HD 3.0.1, 3.0.2 was kinda slow on my phone but 3.0.1 is mega fast. If its not fast enough, then this might not be the phone for you, but for me and most others its fast enough. Also, quadrant doesn't even utilize the second core.

I'm regretting my switch from the galaxy s as well.. Hopefully things will change soon with new rooms or something.
Sent from my HTC Sensation.
thats what i figured about quadrant. is the cpu1 being used at all on revolutionhd?

true story. i went to take it back and tmobile wanted me to pay a 50 dollar restocking fee which is ridiculous. its listed locally for 400
il straight trade for a nexus s
Before trading it in, please try the 2.3.0 version of Leedroid.
High benchmark scores (check thread), superb battery life (1,5-2 days with light-normale use) and very smooth.
The Sensation should be the best phone there is atm considering the hardware. Unfortunately HTC didn't optimize the ROM + drivers for it.
Also damn you HTC for being so ssssslow in releasing the 2.3.4 kernel. Lot's of people could do magic with it
i have a few pms about trading for a nexus s. im sorry guys. my heart belongs to samsung. i gave htc a second try and realized it wont work between us.
yes she looks good wrapped in that metal but samsung phones are just down right a dirty girl
if you ever owned a galaxy phone you will understand this and agree
Making me miss my captivate.. but i still love my sensation
phone runs great for me on... MT-S4g v1.1.2 (tmous 2.3.4 tweaked stock looking though)

That's what i'm running and the ROM is smooth! If this guy wants to go back to Samsung let him. Its his choice

Yep, Go back to your Samsung and leave the XDA building
hahah no hating man. but yea going back to samsung. wish you all the best of luck with development
First aosp rom is done. It will be posted within 24hours. Flash that one and please tell me what lag.

If you're willing, wait till ROMs come out that have proper dual core support. Not this madness where you force once core to be on all the time, but a ROM that intelligently manages both cores to maximize performance/battery life. Also ICS should bring better dual core support. If you can't wait, then jumping ship seems like the answer.
I would wait to jump ship. It's a new phone, New set of hardware. The dual-core is still being delta with. For the most part, I think this thing fly's. Small bugs, but time will heal all. If you trade now, two months from now your gonna kick your own asset around for trading. Just saying. Good luck to you

Okay eww on Samsung, I had (still have but dont use) a Captivate, they don't have working GPS, TW is so laggy, samsung makes great tv's, ****ty phones. Good luck. I love my Sensation, maybe I got lucky, I have none of the issues I read about on the forums. I am still on stock because, as of now, it's perfect out of the box. I tried a few ROMe but without kernel source for 2.3.4 they are full of bugs. Maybe it's perfect for my daily use, idk, so far, it's been a great two weeks.

hear hear! it its a really good fone, but SOOOOO different from the sgs/sgsII when comparing hardware/software...
the processor is far too advanced for the software to actuaal make proper use of it, aSync is a little tricky, but the devs here are doing some AMAZING work to get both running at the same time (bear in mind this processor is NOTHING like hyperthreading for dekstops, its practically like 2 physical processors on a single chip)
it will get much better before it gets any worse, and my saving grace is that this fone launched almost 6 months before the iphone 5, and the specs are STILL better take that jobs/cook!
I came from an SGS with custom roms which was pretty smooth but I have to say the Sensation with P3D Neon rom is a lot smoother and the Sense animations are very fluid. I also find the browser to be a lot better than that on the SGS especially with the extra qHD resolution.

HTC Sensation vs HTC Desire HD

recently, I had a chance to play around with my friends Desire HD and what I found
really disturbed me.. about in my aspects comparing the two devices side by
side, in almost all app launch and even sense apps and widgets, the Desire HD opens
first over the Sensation.
one really annoying thing was in picture pinch to zooming, the Desire HD was way faster
than the sensation, while the Sensation was smooth, but its really slow compared to
the Desire HD (same picture tested)
note: my friends Desire HD runs Stock ROM also in my Sensation on Stock 1.45 ROM
this is really shocking. I am thinking of returning this device.
anyone had this experience? please share, while many would recommend using
custom ROMs, but surely the comparison above are both on Stock, so it wouldnt
be fair.
HERE IS THE VIDEO COMPARISON

POST 23
Just got my wife the DHD and can confirm everything that you have said.
I'm devastated! How can i explain to her that my phone is better than hers in the real world terms .
How can htc bring out a device that they are incapable of producing proper software for.
I would gladly forgo the minimal changes that sense 3.0 brings over sense 2.1
to have a device running as smoothly as the DHD does. I don't want to have to
keep trying custom kernels and i have yet to find one which doesn't invoke it's
own issues (not meant as a criticism to kernel dev's as they don't have everything to work with)
Come on HTC get your finger out.

I think this is because the Desire HD is running Sense 2.1 while the Sensation is running 3.0, which is more "heavier". But I don't having any lags with apps launching or pinch to zoom.

I agree with mzmo...but no one can deny that the desire HD is an awesome phone

There's no lag in pinch to zoom. It's just slow zooming compared to the Desire HD
I dont think the Desire HD stands up at all, I developed for both and the sensation is just much better all round IMO, screen is crap on DHD (Compared to Sensation) Not really a good comparison
i will post a video comparison of this in youtube once i have a chance to see my
friend again. for the mean time, i'll see what the performance will be on stock and
S-On.
right just managed to get back to S-on,
now testing stock 1.45 ROM. (hhmmmmmmm, just thought about it now, , , , , im back to s-on
I could return my device and exchange it with hhmmmm , , , , whats nice out there.
No not really, i want to test this on for some time and decide later after exhausting
all avenues. the progress and the findings of this testing may help others

Return you Sensation!? You must be crazy lol. The Sensation's cons can all be resolved software wise, except for the battery (which you could just buy the EVO 3D or a Anker battery). How's it running now?
as promised, here is the video. If I could have 5minutes of your time
HTC Desire HD compared with HTC Sensation
Rooting it and installing a custom ROM will fix it
Having had both of these phones for quite a while now, the sensation since release and the DHD since it's release.
I have had nothing but problems with my sensation (the wifi has now completely broken) force closes, overheating, reboots, that damned bootloader at launch, problems with kernels not kicking the two cores off properly, the phone giving mad battery readings, to name but a few issues which have plagued the sensation.
On the other hand the desire hd has simply plodded on without fault, yes the battery is crap and yes it does have some issues, but overall it has been a much more reliable handset than the sensation, by quite a margin imho.
On it's day the sensation eats the DHD alive, but unfortunately that day doesn't come around very often and it's usually spending it's time rebooting or causing global warming, right now mines about to die because the battery is too low and it's inability to now connect to wifi is just the most annoying thing i've ever known.
Sorry but on paper it's the sensation, in the real world, it's the dhd.
Quite sad.
I've had both phones so far (also concurrently) and I must admit Sensation is much better than Desire HD when it comes to performance, display etc .. but what bothers me most is the loudspeaker on the Sensation which is in no way half as good as the Desire HD's

Ive just done that, now back to S-off and Rooted, but decided to stay on Stock
ROM also unlocked using method 2.
but as I have stated, comparing it to a DHD on Stock Rom would not make it a
fair contest. Thanks for sharing your thought anyway.
Sorry, but I watched your video and could not understand a word you said. I didn't know which phone was which or what was going on.

DHD on the left and Sensation on the Right
its about the speed of pinch to zoom and
speed of app launching.

bravo!!! well stated!!
whoaahh am i actually happy with it!!! NOOOOOOOO!!! but this should
pose a challenge to the Devs and Chefs
I don't think it is really that valid to compare the two. Sensation has a lot more pixels to draw for the screen than Desire HD.
And some apps most likely just don't run as fast on dual core than on single core. My reasoning of this is based on desktop CPU. When multi core CPU first came out, many software actually ran slower on multi core CPU. Software needs to be optimized for multi core in order to take advantage of the hardware.

That's a good guess "pixel draw" I personally think it is a probable reason
but unless this is confirmed then we don't have a good place to start.
