ok, so ive been looking everywhere for a solution and haven't found one. I've been trying to replace the .png's for my data icons so i will just have 2g and 4g, rather than e and 1x and h to get all those confused. I followed all the steps on many tutorials and nothing seems to work. I do everything on the phone itself, i have ninjamorph and root explorer, someone have an answer on why i cant change it? or is there an easier way?

Hey alright heres the deal i flashed the new cyanogen onto my g1 (test 2) and then i saw that artifex had a new rom out (artifex 18 i think it was) so i decided that i would try that one. Now I did the right thing and wiped system/dalvik and all of the others then installed, and tried out artifex's rom and it didn't work to well (market etc..) so i decided to go back to cyanogen's. After wiping and re-flashing and booting, the icon for the 3g switches constantly between an H and the usual 3g but my data wouldn't work whenever it was on the 3g icon only when it was on the H icon. My thought was that maybe something didn't get wiped right or the new method of apps2sd might have had something to do with it. Basically i would like to get it back to where my signal doesn't change randomly from 3g to H and back but only works when the icon is H. Also i have tried to take my phone back to vanilla just start over but i still experience this problem so I'm not sure as to what is making it do this. Anyone out there want to help?? oh and sorry for the really long post
Ok I got it just had to wipe out my sd card :/
Everything went fine. Except that I don't hear any boot sounds ,, I also did restore to factory settings, now I lost the beats audio boot up, htc quietly brilliant is still existing though but without sound. Could anyone help me on this? I'm just new here, that's why I couldn't post on mike's arhd thread. Any help would be greatly appreciated ^^,
im also running ARHD and dont have a boot sound.. I guess there is no boot sound included in the ROM everything works flawlessly.
dont panic.
If you really want the boot sound, download the attached .rar file, extract it and place the "android_audio.mp3" in System/Customize/Resource.
there is no bootsound on arhd
thanks for the help, it's fixed now but I have another problem.
My WiFi Signal is not reading correctly, its stating 1 bar on mu notification bar, but on the wifi options its full bar. There's no direct impact on my internet speed, but I'm wondering why its reading incorrectly, but when I restart my phone its reading correctly for the first 5 mins then it will stay at 1 bar again.

did u flash leedroid tweaks or any other stuff?
Nope, this is my very first ROm
I only followed all the instructions provided to flash this Rom, I haven't attempted to flash other stuffs yet. Though the signal meter problem is pretty random , sometimes its not reading correctly, sometimes it does, even though in like 3 steps away from the wifi router.

Google Maps is called "Maps", may you just searched for the wrong App Name.
You can look in ES file browser, after check the boxes in Options to for root partitons, if in data/data the folder com.google.android.apps.maps exists,
if it is not there, Maps is not installed currently.

Which baseband are you using? If you're not using the July baseband, I'd suggest upgrading to it. Just search for July baseband and you should find instructions. If you're already on that baseband, try updating your RIL with the GetRIL app from the play store. If none of that works, try wiping cache and dalvik in recovery, then fixing permissions.
I have the new baseband and have tried numerous wipes and fixing permissions and also the getril from market. Has anyone one fixed this with a new sim card I have read if you can find an old style card things work better in the g2x?
Are you using WIFI at the time or mobile data? I have issue with MMS using wifi. Everyhting works as expected when using mobile data.
I can receive messages with wifi calling on and that is the only time I can get them on wifi or mobile data nothing
Hey I'm having this same problem. Has anyone else been able to solve this? From what I've seen, it seems that the OP and I are the only ones with this problem
I tried tons of other things and never got it to work correctly I ended up exchanging phone under warranty for 5 bucks and with the new unit had none of the problems that I was having with the old one so in my opinion it is a hardware issue that you can not fix with out changing out phone I ran across a few others that ended up changing out phone. The only thing I can recommend is somewhere I saw a thread where some people had flashed a experimental rom and lost the ability to text and they had to use some kind of at commands to the modem to get it back in the right mode you should be able to find it if you search the fourm

I was able to find this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19794570&postcount=9
but I'm a little confused because he says that he "saved" the settings or something after he clicked refresh, but I don't see any option to save. any time i leave that menu and go back to it, the numbers are gone again.
it has been my experience that even with completely stock, unrooted builds, MMS picture messaging does not work with wifi. even in jacksonville, fl and new orleans, la (both 4g markets), that while on wifi, if you receive a picture message and attempt to download it, the phone will connect to the 4g mobile data service to download it. it happened on both my g2 and my g2x. i want to say that with wifi calling turned on you can download picture messages, but im not entirely sure.
I have the samsung galaxy 4g T679 phone which I bought from TMobile when I signed up for service with them this month. The phone has OS 2.3.6 Gingerbread. I am on their $60 no contract 4G plan.
here is what I want to do:
1. remove unecessary apps that came with phone which i cant uninstall like "bejeweled 2" and "T-Mobile HD TV".
2. install a new theme that provides a complete makeover for gingerbread 2.3.6
3. speed up the phone/performance by freeing up the RAM and possibly overclock it?
here are some issues that I hope to fix by rooting the phone:
**I definately need to improve the overall speed/performance of the phone. sometimes, when i click on any icon, it takes 3 or 4 seconds to load the screen.
**webpage and image loading is slow even though I get 3mbps download speeds on the speed tests when the phone is on 4G connection. I switched the phone to my Home Wifi connection and did the speed test. This time it came back with 12mbps download speeds and yet the page loading speeds are exactly the same as the loading speeds I saw with the 4G connection active. I have tried many different browsers for the phone but I have not noticed any change in the webpage loading and image loading speeds. I have seen the same thing happening with apps that use the data connection like googlemaps navigation app, and the places app. No difference between the 12mbps Wifi connection compared to the 3mbps 4G connection.
I read this thread about rooting the phone but it is very very very confusing....-----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=26859816
I have a general idea of what to do, but the instructions are super confusing. forgive me but I am a complete noob to this!
so i understand i need to root first, then back up, then make modifications to the phone...
where do i start.. the thread mentions several methods.. i dont know which one i should choose.. i dont understand how to root it, how to make sure that I can unroot the phone if something goes wrong... and make the changes that I mentioned above..
so do i need a kernel? rom - i understand is a whole new OS for the phone which i dont want..
I am just completely confused!!
1. need to root the phone - i have a small idea of how to do this
2. back up the OS so that I can restore it to stock
3. how do i make those changes i mentioned above
4. how do i unroot the phone if the need arises?
5. how do i restore the phone to stock?
please someone help me in this matter.... I am tearing out my hair trying to figure all of this out. I dont want to do something wrong and end up with a phone that is completely non-functional or completely bricked and unrecoverable.
I have read the general guide on rooting here but it is not very well written as it fails to clearly explain some of the more important aspects of rooting like kernels and custom ROMs. Also the guide is not clear on what is Clockworkrecovery mod.
If some kind soul here can tell me what i need to do, I would greatly appreciate it...
Thanks.

I choose not to root the phone since the option sound a little complicated to me.
I just cleared data from the stock/bloatware that increased the phones speed dramatically.
You can do that by going to Home>settings> Applications >Manage Applications >All>and just clicking clear data on each one of them.
Note: I didn't clear data from apps like Android System and Contacts etc. as I tried not to lose any important data.
That definitely made a difference as to it doesn't freeze almost at all now.
Some other things that worked for me are:
-While phone is off when volume up & down and then the power button are all pressed and hold together,
it will take you to a memory dump screen which seams to increase the speed.
Once you get to that screen you simply then press and hold the power to turn off and
then turn the phone back on as you normally would.
-Other things you can so is shut unused apps and click on clear memory at the RAM manager,
all located at the task manager app.
and removing the battery when it completely freezes.
Hope you find it helpful

I realize that this was posted last year and only ONE reply was made, I'm just hoping that someone will see this now and have a solution or some help.
Have you gotten an answer on this topic, because I'm totally in the same boat as you... I want to get rid of the bloatware and speed up my phone cause, as you said, it's slow to open most apps and such.
If anyone could help me/us, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
i am doing a theme for v20f stock roms for the roms on my phone. I did an atnt one and everything was smooth, i'm now working on a bell one where the data signal and in out icons are seperated. I really don't like this and want to merge them.
i tried a few things with signal_cluster_view.xml but nothing worked. it also doesn't make much sense because i used the same framework-res.apk and systemui.apk that i already moded on atnt rom, to save time. the files worked fine but for some reason the rom still uses the other signal layout so i'm thinking maybe this is controlled elsewhere? wierd to me that just flashing the sytemui and framework-res from the other rom didn't change it. anyways if anyone has some ideas i would love to hear them. i can post any files from my phone if it would help, compiled or decompiled, i can also get the smali code if needed. thanks in advance.
if you don't understand what i mean i want the data icon to be like Cyanogenmod instead of being a data icon with a huge H+ to the left of it, and under the h+ is the data in/out arrows, i want to move that ontop of the signal, and move the h+ontop of the signal to the top left (i have the icons made for this already
