How to know if my device is S-OFF ( locked bootloader? ) - HTC Sensation

Some sensations come with the unlocked bootloader right? mine is one of the newest sensations, and i think maybe it's unlocked, but how y can know that?

Make sure Fastboot is turned off in Settings > Power
Power down the phone.
Hold down the volume down button and power at the same time until it takes you to screen
That will say Ship S-On (locked bootloader)
Or Ship S-Off (unlocked bootloader.
I believe that's it.

"tampered" and s-off

OK, so I am learning android (using HD2 now) and from what I understand when you use the htc boot loader unlocker you end up with a "tampered" warning somewhere that will let htc or your carrier know that you have unlocked your bootloader.
Does having s-off help you to be able to trick the phone from knowing that you have been into it if you flash it back to stock?
I am just worried about keeping insurance on the phone if once I unlock or s-off they will no longer cover it.

I think that particular device will say, tampered. Soff is like security off you can fash roms and do many things with soff but no it does not trick the device into thinking its not tampered. With my device I can s on return to stock but I'm not sure about yours.
It might have tampered marked on it.

It doesn't set a "tampered" flag. The stock bootloader has a caption at the top of *locked*. When you use htcdev to unlock the bootloader it will change that caption to *unlocked* and it cannot be undone.
S-off, on the other hand, does not notify HTC or your carrier of what you have done. It is also reversible if you really need to set things back to full stock.

When you use HTC Dev to unlock your bootloader it does show Unlocked on the Hboot screen. But if you re lock the bootloader it displays re locked on the Hboot screen and not locked as it is originally. S-off can be reversed with out any trace of it being S-off. And now that the unbricking project has come up with a way to recover your de ice if going S-on soft bricks your device it is way less dangerous now.
At realsis, think about S-off as being like HSPL for the HD2.
I believe someone has figured out what was being set differently, and you can in fact return to "locked"

Go on........
Don't know if this works for the Sensation, but if someone is trying to go back to locked hboot, give it a try.
Go back to totally stock. Flash a RUU, preferably GB so that you have an earlier hboot that can be easily S-OFFed again.
fastboot oem write secureflag 3
Reboot and you should be S-ON again. AGAIN, MAKE SURE YOU ARE TOTALLY STOCK WITH A SHIP HBOOT OR YOU WILL BRICK.
Use revolutionary to S-OFF again. Hopefully, you will be locked at this point.
If not, repeat, but use JuopunutBear to S-OFF.
If you're still unlocked, this method doesn't work on the Sensation.

Carrier unlock and bootloader unlock are two different things. You can run the software update just fine.
What does Tampered mean?
Hi ,
Still a little confused ( sorry, total newbie)
I'm using a at&t Htc one x in India. When i load it in HBoot it shows:
*Tampered*
*Locked*
What does the tampered mean? can i still run the RUU?
on the HTC site, i could find only a CRC file... can i install the Asia version or should i install the Usa version
Pl let me know.
Thanks!

If it says tampered that means it was unlocked at some time and was probably supercid.
You can try using fastboot to determine the CID, it may be changed back CWS__001 or could still be 11111111
You would most likely brick if you try to ruu to 3.18
You would have to S-OFF first which is somewhat advanced and creates a big security hole if you don't know what you're doing.

finding the correct RUU

hello,
I won a 32 GB HOX and I need to completly stocked my phone using the RUU
I just dont know which one I have to choose
my CID is : HTC_044
Thank you !
That seems like an endeavor HTC one X. I would ask in their forums. Ours are carrier locked phones with different hardware.
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
32gb, HTC__044 would fit an Evita from Singapore region.
smk444, do you know if this phone is dual core or quad core?
Or if it is a One X or One XL eg Endeavor vs Evita?
Nearly all One XL are carrier unlocked as far as I know. Maybe just the AT&T is locked.
smk444, power the phone off completely. It is best to turn off "fast boot" in the power settings or your phone is unlikely to want to fully turn off.
Push and hold volume down and then breifly push the power button while still holding the volume down.
Take a picture or type exactly the info that is shown at the top of the screen
Eg
EVITA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
CID-
HBOOT-
RADIO-
OpenDSP-

yep sounds like a se asia endeavor, type "fastboot getvar version-main" in your command prompt/terminal and post it
No one xl are carrier unlocked unless you buy if from a 3rd party vebdor. Most are carrier locked since they are typically purchased from a carrier.
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
Evitas purchased from Telstra (Australian carrier) come carrier unlocked.
Sent from my Evita
Hong Kong stock is also unlocked.
I believe the Singapore stock is also unlocked.
Other than AT&T users I have not heard of the device being locked to a carrier.
And it is just as likely a Singapore Evita as an Endeavor.
So far the only points pointing in either direction are the user saying HOX vs the user posting in the Evita forum.
Telus and Rogers are both locked.

[Q] Stock ATT RUU?

Im new to the one x community, bought one today from a guy on craigslist but came with cyanogen rom. Can anyone point me to the Stock ATT RUU for this phone because i plan on sim unlocking it tomorrow. ATT HTC One X. Also if anyone knows the straighttalk apn settings for this phone?
Here's the at&t 3.18 RUU. Before you run it it's very important that we check a couple of things so we will need to see your bootloader details. The reason is if the phone is s-on and has SuperCID then you run the RUU it'll brick the phone, we don't want that. To get to the bootloader power the phone off, hold volume down and then hold power so you're holding them together, after a few seconds let go of power but keep holding volume down until you reach the white screen with text. This is your bootloader, please post the first four lines. In regards to the apn settings you should be able to Google it or contact your carrier to get them.

Ok, you can't safely run the RUU because you're s-on. SIM unlocking should work ok on a Sense ROM so if you flash one from our development section you can try. Or you can get s-off and run the RUU.

[Q] Faux hboot when sending replacement.

I'm getting a replacement device from verizon after having multiple signal issues and problems with the IR blaster. Is it okay to ship it back s-off and unlocked with the faux hboot in place or should I lock the bootloader and turn s-on? I've already RUU'd it back to stock. thanks in advance.

Just lock the bootloader. S-Off doesn't matter for warranty. I wouldn't flash an hboot with a fake status. What if that phone is refurbished and given to another user? Besides if they find out you flashed a modified hboot that's way worse.
