Yes I'm a noob & I hate myself.
I bought the Infuse 4G 2 days ago, and I've had this problem since.
In my message threads, half the time the conversation is all out of order.
Example.. I just texted my friend and asked him if he had an extra SIM card I could have.
I said "Hey do you have an extra SIM card I could have?"
He said "Nope."
But the "nope" popped up on top of the message I sent him first, instead of below.. It's driving me insane
Is this happening with anyone else? If so, pleaseee help me. It's just really annoying. & one more thing.. is there an app to change the bubbles or something in the messages app? They are so ugly IMO. lol
Try a different messaging app like "handcent"

You see, I am having this problem where MMS's sent by someone to someone else are coming from my number and I called T-Mobile's G1 Support Dept and they want to sent me an OTA, but they need me to go into my settings and give them the exact firmware version I read there. Problem is I am jailbroken, so I didn't want to give them that, so I said I was on my cell and did not have another phone around I could use to call them back (which was actually true). So I have the following three questions:
1) Is anybody experiencing the same problem as me? Feel free to comment here or in the original post on HoFo.
2) What does the official build description read? I want to give them that one instead when I call back.
3) If I am jailbroken, is it OK to receive OTA's from T-Mobile? Will I even receive them? Will they install successfully? Will my jailbreak break?
Thanks a lot in advance!
more info needed
if you changed your phone to use the developer keyset (ie: JF's androidmod + modded rc 30), you should be fine even if they send it to you it wouldn't install because your phone now wants updates signed with the dev keys not the REAL tmob/htc keys...
I doubt it would fix your problem anyway, could somebody be "spoofing" the messages with "your caller id info" there are websites that will do this for txt, mms & even voice calls, that would be my guess.
Every once in a while the sms msg centers will just wig out and do wacky stuff from time to time, I have had messages show up hours and even days after they were sent, somebody the otherday msg'd me saying I had sent them a text, I hadn't (i checked sent msgs folder) so who knows it could have been just an anomolly.

this occurred shortly after the initial launch of the G1. some suggested wiping the phone, but not sure if that fixed the issue. maybe you could reinstall jf's RC30 and then wipe and then restore your info.... might help?

I think that's what I did, so I guess I won't be calling TMo back and I guess I'll have to live with this for now, having people I don't know message me weekly asking, "Who's this?" I just need to make sure I don't send anything compromising if I sent MMS's. *LOL*

Not at all. In both cases, the people asking who I was because they received a picture from my number confirmed they know the person who sent it to them and they did nothing special to send those messages, just use the native Messaging application.

This sounds exactly like what I have been experiencing, only I have only seen it happen with MMS's, not SMS's.

I never saw reports of this before. Guess I missed them. See my response above. I will just wait and see what happens. Most likely, this is TMo screwing up and once enough people complain and TMo realizes the liability they have in their hands, they will move and fix this. Besides, I just saw in one of the threads that we should be able to install Cupcake, so I will explore that or wait for the next jailbreak update.
this was happening to me as well and it happened to be my father's iphone account weird, but yes i get really scared when i send my gf stuff now lol from my gmail account. i grabbed his phone to make sure he didn't see anything and just make sure it addressed to the right person when you send lol
i also input my contact into and when my father texts me (yes he just learned), the sender is my email address....odd
idk how to change it....

I insist. 611 from your G1 and complain. T-Mobile needs to get the pressure to move enough resources to address this.
This same thing has been happening to me. I am using an iPhone with SwirlyMMS. I did notice that when people responded to me with a MMS asking me "Who is this?", according to my.t-mobile.com my texts were originating from India or Russia, but were from people's real cell phone numbers in the US. I know this, because one of the numbers in question called me and they were from NYC.
this has happend to my girlfriend a few months back and she has a tmo sidekick 3. Also, about 8 months ago my roomate was getting phone calls from all over the U.S. from people trying to reach other peole after about 10 phone calls i called his phone from mine (tmo wing at the time) and it went to someone else. I then hung up and tried a few minutes later and it went to someone different. He called t-mobile and they said they havnt recieved any other complaints and told him to restart his phone. He did, it did nothing. but over the next few days it seemed to fix itself, of t-mobile had found the problem. But back to the mms, My girlfriend now owns a G1 and just a few days ago i sent her a picture of my dog and it said it came from someone else. we both have G1's mine has root hers does not so i dont think it has anything to do with your phone.
this happened to my wife and I right around x-mas and it only lasted a few days. she relied to a text I sent and it went to NY, 'cause they called back and told us where they were from... and they had t-mobile. It quit after a couple of days and haven't had a problem with it since then.
Okay, I have a droid eris, and it is crap. i have tried ROMs (Kaosfroyo) and Rooting, I've deleted double apps, I've OCed, and moved from system to data and vice versa. I have done everything I've seen possible to speed that baby up and still got nothing.
I loved my phone when I got it, and had to work my dad Forever to get it, Which Verizon screwed us with not advertising add a line for 2 for1. and I got a POS phone. ps, TEXT LAG IS RIDICULOUS!!!
I get lagged out, ALL THE TIME, get a full system FC i swear 3-5 times a day. it randomly reboots and it drops calls. aka, BRICK. I do find it funny however that i cant read Laputa cuz of FCs and trackball issues, so i can't read my AP book XP Its quite ridiculous that i spent 100$ on this XD
so.. I want to call Verizon, statwe my claim, and hopefully walk away with a Droid, maybe better if i got some Jesus in me er something, is that too much too ask? yes, why? because my dialer FCed all 4 times i tried to call Verizon. but i never get the one that calls a person.. who do i call to get the head hanchos??? I need help! if anyone could offfer any sort of advice, thatd be awesome, help a brotha in need!
Today, My girlfriend sent me a message and insted of it coming up in one big message, like the iphone, BB and other phones, it broke it down in to little 160 letter chunks, I know what SMS means that the protocal behind it but is there a way to get around the chunks and just make it one big message, i am okay with it being delayed a few seconds.
it would not bug me as much if they came in order, not 1,3,6,4,7,2,5
Any help would be greatly appreciated i love android sept for this one little problem.
ALSO this is on a HTC Desire Z
It may be a stupid question but are you sure this doesn't come from your girlfriend's phone?
Shes got a Blackberry It send as 1 message and when i revice it it show up as one message, i also just tested it from my iPhone to the desire Z and its still doing it.
and theirs no such things as a stupid question
thanks for your help
so ive been playing with this trying to remove it but when im in a text thread...
example,
John Wayne (M 1555555555) sup?
thats pretty annoying having their number next to their name.
it only does this to some people.
they only have one number as the contact.
if you have any info on this id appreciate it.
I am experiencing the same thing with some of my texts. I am going to see if I can find some correlation between my contacts and the messages affected
Same here, it was never like this on my Hero.
yeah I just installed handcent to take care of this, its a much better messaging app than stock
Agreed
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G
I just got home from my local ATT Corp store and the darndest thing happened while I was there.
The rep that was helping me happened to have an Inspire and was checkin mine out sayin how much he liked the screens(LP) and how fast it was. He then opened the app drawer to run speed test.net never noticing Super User while in there. He commented again about how smooth it ran and then noticed the lack of ads on the speed test app.
Once that was done he went to settings to check something else and immediately noticed the difference in appearance. Once he got to About Phone he checked the version and saw 2.3.4 and grabbed his to see what it said.
At this point I stated that it is rooted and asked if he'd like me to root his. He said he'd JB'ed an old iPhail but was scared to do the Inspire because of the steps involved. I gave him my bidness card, let him know that I'd be happy to help and left.
Maybe I'm easily entertained, but I thought it was too funny that an ATT rep wants a customer to root their device.
Tx
Thats hilarious! Nice way to make some easy money.
Yes I had that at bestbuy. I bought my case and he pulled his out bragging about it. So I ignored it and when I bought the case,I was attempting to put it on. He saw my locksceen at the time and noticed it was different. He asked what I did and told him. I was running cm7 with Rover theme. I told him to check out xda. Idk what ever happened to him.

Hell, I've been doing this since I parted ways with AT&T. Happened right before unemployment kicked in, so I've been rooting and jailbreaking for $50 per phone in my spare time while I looked for work. My last customer was an AT&T employee.
Hahaha, this is EPIC!! When I had my HD2 from T-MO on AT&T, it happened to me at least 3 times when going into the stores (both AT&T and RadioShack) to reset my voicemail by using google voice. The look on their faces was just right to snap a picture and upload it to FB or the such.
