Description
I wrote this app because I constantly forget to look at the free app of the day on the Amazon market and have missed out on a few really good apps.
Help Needed
This is version 1.0 so I expect there to be some bugs. If you have any questions, comments, or issues with the app please let me know.
I've added a good bit of info to the notification and plan to include more info with the addition of a custom layout.
How do I use it?
Once installed open Appstore Reminder from your applications. Click on the reminder time option and set what time you'd like to be notified. You can click on Test Reminder option to generate an instant reminder to see how it will look.
Clicking on the notification will dismiss the notification and open the Amazon Appstore app where you can download the app.
Thanks to everyone who test's this. I'd love to hear feedback good or bad. I plan on posting this to the market after it's been tested by all you fine folks!
UPDATE 5/24/2011
Now on the Android market as Amazon Free App Reminder. If you'd like to donate for future development please consider purchasing the Market version. This will also ensure easier updated in the future and I've got some good ideas for future enhancements.
UPDATE 5/26/2011
I've attached three new icon suggestions. Let me know your thoughts and if you like any of them. Also any modifications to these three you feel would help.
UPDATE 6/01/2011
I've attached the final three icon's for voting via poll. Let me know what you all think.
UPDATE 10/04/2011
It was taken down as requested by Amazon trademark department. They requested that the name be changed in the Market. During this time my wife had our third child and I unfortunately haven't had enough time to get back to this. Three kids under the age of the 3 and a full time job is quite the workload on it's own.
When I get home today I'll be uploading the latest version that's in the market here for everyone that needs the update. Unfortunately my big update that I was about to release right before my baby was born was lost due to some data corruption. I'm finally getting back into things and will hopefully have a newer, better, aster, more enhanced app out within the next few weeks.
Again sorry to everyone for the delay. I greatly apologize for the time it's taken me to get back into things. So the app is in the market now and I'll be uploading the latest version later tonight.
Thanks,
Cody
Change Log
Version 3
- Force closes should be fixed. With the exception of when there is no data signal
- Added options to enable/disable vibration, soundm and LED when notification is triggered
Thanks,
Cody (RaueSoft Development)
Here you can download the application
I've installed it and it seems to work rather well. It's nice that it tells you what app is available so you can decide whether or not you want to open to download, and that it provides quick access if you do want to. I'm curious though, why does this app need to access the sd card? Thanks for a great notification tool.

Very nice! Good work. This is something that should be built into the appstore. I don't see any issues at all.

esoomenona,
Thank you for testing. I believe the sdcard access is coming from using minsdkversion in the manifest file. There is a bug in Android that will show that permission when installing an app out of the market. Once it's loaded on the market that permission will not be needed. You can see the screen capture below from the market.
Thanks,
Cody

I agree. I have coworkers that also have asked for something like this. I hope to help people that forget like myself...
sorry if this is a noob thing, but mine is downloading as a .bin file, and ASTRO says it can't open it. what am I doing wrong?
Looks good. An option to toggle the vibrate on the notification might be nice.

Thanks, nice little helpful app.
I always try to get the free apps I like but there are times I forget and feel bad later.
I hope this app will serve as a reminder.
Not sure why but the notifier didn't umm, notify me, at the set time.

Can you do the theme from phoenix rom for heinz 57 (with 2fast's permission of course). It looks so awesome but i just cant seem to stay stable on phoenix for the life of me.
What issue is it that you can't get stable with? As gas's rom was built from the same thing mine is. Along with the fact he has even went to putting some of the same stuff in it.
The only issue as of right now is swype which I know what it is. I just have to get that far.

I dont know bro, I seriously love the rom, but it seems no matter what kernal i run it eventually will have some sort of data sync error and i end up with a "unexpected error" and i have to wipe the data. YOu have any sort of IM? i promise i wont bug you much on it, just easier to describe.
Could there be a fully skinned, fully working gingerbread theme for EE19? please?

I would greatly appreciate it :3

Hi All,
If you are one who loves photography or takes lots of pictures (of family, trips etc), you might have wondered that if you could use your own awesome taken pictures as wallpaper for your android device, well here is a free version of such application.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nettech.android.awallpaper.free.main&feature=search_result
It allows you to select a folder containing all of the pics you want to use, and then set up a schedule, by minutes, by hour, by day or weekly, it will keep on changing wallpaper, quietly without any issues unless you set the app to not repeat...
Please be kind and let me know if there are issues so that we can fix them asap for you.
It should work for most android devices, however screen is optimized up to 4", it will have no problem with larger screen as functionality will work with any device with android =>2.1
Thanks
I was looking for an app like this! Thanks, will check it out!

Hi, I've already searched and unless I am blind I haven't been able to find this so I figured I'd ask here;
I miss the look and functionality of Mediascape from 1.6 and would like a port of it to 2.3. Is this possible? I know that the stock music player now is probably faster but I still miss it. Any devs out there care to shine some light on this? Thanks a lot in advance and if this is surplus then by all means this can be deleted!
Cheers, Galcactus

developers from sony ericsson took more than half a year to port the one from 1.6 to 2.1, and it lags as hell, and they took another few months to fix the lags and add on a few more features such as one finger zoom. finally they gave it up on 2.3
now what do you think?
Well we are never going to even get the preview ROM of ICS yet here at XDA we have a relatively stable ROM working. So I guessed if the latest OS port is going well, then porting one pesky little app will be no problem. Also it doesn't hurt to ask, does it?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I feel your pain. I suffered serious withdrawal symptoms after upgrading form 2.1 to 2.3. As the honourable member says, mediascape is a bit of of an engima even for seasoned developers. Lets hope SONY come up with an alternative to the moded android app.
Once i saw this thread i was like (HOPES UP!)
one of the reasons i bought the x10 was because of the timescape and mediascape @[email protected] when they scrapped it in 2.3 i nearly cried T_T
So let's try and get a dev in to help us! Start up a petition?

Will the 2.1 ones work? I still have my nandroid back up.. I just need to extract it.
There should be a forum containing all the firmwares of the x10. While I know little about actual developing besides what I've read and the methods to recover my phone, I believe that the 2.1 global generic stuff should be perfect (or at least, better than 1.6 - works better. If possible upload both as Pvy wanted 1.6 too) as for Pvy, thank you very much for taking on this little project. Once I get near a computer I will find the links for you. If someone beats me to it then make your you either upload the whole firmware or both the frameworks, the system apps and the de-odexed versions of the apps too. Thanks people, this is starting to kick off!!!

1.. Mediascape was laggy and tbh not worth the device that ran it x10 was too good for it, 2nd it cannot be brought over, i think wolfbreak may have attempted this (feel free to correct me if am wrong) and it wasnt possbile to do, its a dead feature, although u could always go back to 2.1 for it
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
Whilst I appreciate your views, I feel obliged to point out that it was buggy for various reasons; the x10 ran on 1.6, or 2.1 back then, both dubious iterations of Android with not even a JIT compiler, let alone the sort of sophisticated RAM managers we have now (I know not quite the same thing, just making a point). Also whilst I love my x10, even on the vanilla like OSs, e.g. cm7, the x10 lags unless pretty much maxed out with no apps installed. That is a hardware failure, our rather it's simply outdated. Finally while mediascape was laggy back then the x10 is capable currently of running most things from either 2.1 or even 1.6 relatively smoothly. If you were to compare things like quadrat scores you'd see a drastic improvement. In addition, I am hoping that the various tweaks available with different ROMs well help us to smooth the app in it's transition from eclair to gingerbread! Pvy, anything worthwhile to report?

For those who does not like the mediascape please don't pour cold water on our hopes. It was among the reasons why we bought the original x10 in the first place.
Remember the countless times their adverts have timescape and mediascape? so hush please and let us wait for the news from pvyparts.
hope OP not misunderstood my post lol. i was saying mediascape is really hard to port, because many other devs have tried before.
glad to see somebody is taking a look into it again, can't wait for good news to come!
honestly i hope timescape can be ported too! timescape on SE 2.3 looks totally nasty and it's extremely laggy..

I like this guy. Even I got my X10 because of mediascape and timescape and if someone manages to port back mediascape then I swear I'll never use any other music of photo viewing applications. That **** was the beast!
PROJECT CLOSED DUE TO INSTABILITY! Please visit the GenericGinger 3.4 BETA ROM thread instead, it's far more superior than any Sidekick 4G ROM out!

Cool, thanks. Let me know what comes up. What seems to be a problem, what seems to be broken, how the GUI looks.
if anyone knows how to disable the power saver feature, so that your screen and keyboard don't get all dark once you hit 15 or 10% battery, and also so that you can still use your camera at 10% battery, I think it would be cool. not sure if this power saver annoys other people or not, lol, but there were ROMs for the Epic 4G that had this tweak, but I never found out how it was done.
Your skype version doesn't work properly. The advance features crash the app. Also just a sidenote the skype is for gingerbread not froyo so that's probably why

Thanks for letting me know. Does it run faster than GOV2 did? Any glitches?
It's good for your first rom I've had a few androids now and for not being a heavy developer it is good. Personally i cant give a good comparison as i have my gov2 supercharged, it seems to run just as nice though. I didnt use this rom super long, more like i just wanted to test it out. yeah, same here, constant force close loop, with only about 2 or 3 seconds to try and do anything in-between force closes.
Thanks for the feedback guys! From now on, I'm going to leave this ROM but I may come back to it in the future for whatever reason. For now on, please use the latest version of GenericGinger, which at the time of this post is 3.4 BETA. Thanks!
