Hi, I just rooted my friends g2x. After I was done I tried to get into hboot/bootloader by holding volume down + power button like I do with my phone. But when I did, the g2x just rebooted really slowly, and everything took long to load like it wiped everything.
I guess my question is, does this phone have bootloader installed or would I have to do that? If so, how?
Thanks.

Look up nvflash in the dev forum. Follow directions carefully.

So it doesn't come with hboot?
After that's done I would flash recovery via rom manager right?

Sorry I just read it. Thanks man!

Anyone test this?

I was part of the beta test team. It worked fine then.
I ran it this weekend. It did the s-off after 3 tries (had to reboot computer one time between tries) then it offered to install the 4.0.1.4 clockworks mod recovery. Other than having to try several times, it worked great.
So is it confirmed if this will work for the Aria. Are there instructions on how to do this? I used Unrevoked when I first rooted. I haven't s-offed my phone because I don't understand SDK tools and using command prompt so I'm glad a "one click" finally came about.
How is this different from AlphaRevX? As I recall the second beta version had the option to install CWR as well. Does this version also install Superuser.apk?

You don't have to understand how to use the SDK tools or much of command prompt. Like when AlpharevX came, it basically did the work for you. All you had to do was download it and enter the beta key for your device and it does the rest.
I was finally able to S-0ff my phone! Took a while to get 3-4 hours but I just had to read A LOT and have patience. So I will say to anyone trying this don't panic just follow the instructions and read as much as you can. Chances are whatever problems you face have already been addressed somewhere.
My first issue came pretty early on when I kept getting invalid beta key's from the key generator. Turns out an "L" was really an "I". Once I got that I had to uninstall HTC sync and download the fastboot drivers. Once I did that Revolutionary took care of the rest. Once I was rooted I just restored my CM7 that I had backed up. Thank you all for the great writeups provided by XDA.
At Last !!!
After 2 days of buggering about I finally decided to start all over again. So I downgraded my Desire to its original and unrooted state, then I did the official OTA upgrade to give me Hboot 0.93.0001 ... and finally I ran Revolutionary on it from a Linux NetBook ...
I now have a properly S-Off-ed Hboot ... and I can start from scratch on formatting my new SD-Card, and looking at a few new de-branded roms ...
And the whole job only took about 45 minutes from beginning of the downgrade to the S-OFFed end.
THANKS GUYS ... Clean as a whistle
I used this method to root and get s off and now my power key is acting funky. I got a replacement aria and used this method then flashed cm7, now whenever I push the power button I get the power off menu instead of just turning screen off? Anybody have any ideas? I tried going back to stock Tom and same issue.

Yes - power button is a little more touchy - just a quick hit and it goes to screen off - any longer, you get the control screen

I think it is more then that, because even to turn on the phone it takes a few presses of the button. I think I'm going to return it completely to stock with s on and no root and start all over to see if it happens then.

Good luck with that, I don't think there is a way back to S-ON.

Okay a little background bought my aria used in January so since I had no warranty anyways I was rooted and running a custom rom within hours of getting the phone but this whole S-off thing had me a little worried because of the upgrade to a non rootable hboot if something would have went wrong I would be stuck. So been watching and reading since Alfarev showed up on the scene. I worked up the nerve tonight to go for it. I am happy to say I was S-off rooted and had my nand back up restored in half an hour. Just a couple things I wanted to mention the link in the original Alpharev thread now takes you to the same place this link in this thread does the Unrevoked+Alpharev and it was pretty easy after entering my key code the app s-offed my phone and then asked to install recovery I said yes and it grabbed the file on its own from the site and installed revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4
So for those that are a little worried about trying this I have to say it was much easier than I thought it would be. Well that my story and thank you to team Revolutionary!!!!!
Edit
Also special thanks to Gene Poole for the 2.2 flash update zip he made.

please help me. thanks
sorry for my bad english
From what I'm getting from this, you want to RUU to 2.2 (Froyo) . If that's what you want to do in order to Full Root. Then power down the Phone. After it powers down, toggle the Volume Button down, and hold it. Then while still holding the Volume button down press the Power Button. It will put you into HBoot. Use the Volume Buttons to navigate up, or down. Navigate to Fastboot, choose it by pressing the power button once. Plug in the USB Cable, and run the 2.2 RUU from your Destop. It will prompt you through the steps. Noticed that your little flag says your in Mexico. If your having trouble with the English explanation, PM me. I will write it up for you in Spanish .
Tanks! I finally root and A-off my EVO shift.
I install newsense Rom, but what is you recomendation?

Glad you got it sorted out . Was wondering if you ever got it sorted out. As for newSense Rom is a very good choice. I would suggest running it for a while to really decide how like it. If after a while you decide you want to try something else, do a Nandroid Backup first. Then do a full wipe and flash your new Rom. That way if you do not like the new Rom, you can just Nandroid Back.

I ALWAYS backup when I'm uncertain of something.. I miss how easy it was just to use z4root to root phones Thats all it took with my hero cdma..

I wish . Every time I've Rooted until recently it's been manually . But at this point it's what I'm used to.
hi all, i am a novice at all this stuff, and i am sorry for posting probably a similar thread to what others may have said but my problem is a little different. i am having a problem with my wifes att network htc inspire 4g. i rooted it last year with the ace hack kit. the problem is that it is stuck in ace hack kit clock work recovery. it will not start up at all unless it is attched to the computer, and thats when it will go to cw recovery. it will vibrate 3 times and blink a red led and the screen goes blank unless i press the volume down button but it doesnt stay lit up only when i hit the vol down button. then when i hit an option by hitting the power button the phone resets to cw recovery again. if i try to acess hboot, it vibrates 5 times and lights up yellow. i have tried wiping, formatting, and everything but reboot to cw recovery again. from the posts that i have read similar to this problem, everyone says to get another rom and flash from hboot. being that i cant get to hboot any other ideas.

If you wiped and formatted, then you've probably erased whatever ROM you did have. At this point I'd probably use the ACE Hack Kit again, using the option to return everything to stock.... then use it again to re-root the phone. Then I'd install 4ext Recovery instead of CW. Then use 4ext to flash another ROM. I'd recommend Ice Cold Sandwich, found in the DHD development forum.

What happened when you used AAHK? Were there any error messages? Was your phone shipped with Froyo or Gingerbread?

This is my wifes phone. She said that she didn't get any error messages that she knows of. She went to use her phone one day and it was stuck in clockwork recovery. I believe the phone had froyo installed when it came factory but I updated it to the att gingerbread before I rooted it. The phone worked fine till just recently. Was there another update from att recently? Any who that's where it is stuck. No error codes just the lights like I explained above. Thx

That's probably what happened. If she didnt iniate it then it probably auto updated. She's not to technical about that stuff she probably ly was hitting button's like she does. Any ideas on what to do from here. I could probably get a older romantic for it but the way it is now I can't flash it.
Best guess is to flash a ruu.
Try uninstalling the htc drivers (if you have them) and install them again to see if the computer recognizes the cell.

So, before everyone says to use the search button, im gonna say that i used it and didnt find anything, but to my problem. So i just then took out my HTC Sensation from the cupboard and decided to start "playing with it". So i read tutorials about rooting, and finally got it rooted with the help of this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632553
After i got it rooted, i thought you can put roms just like with Samsung phones. So i downloaded this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2115520 I put it on the sdcard and flashed via CWM and now its stuck, even tho it said everything went ok.
My question is that is this fixable and do you have to do something with HTC phones before flashing a rom?
Hi
Greetings,
According to the info you gave I belive your "s-on"
Your phone is recoverable.
Download 4ext recovery for HTC sensation .
Install that recover and boot into recover,
Recover>tools>enable smartflash
After enableing smart flash, flash the Rom you want your phone will boot.
Remember to make a clean installation(wipe everything except sdcard)
For more info search for guide" how to flash Rom with son" in general sector
IF I HELPED YOU, HIT THE THANKS BUTTON or HIT THE THANKS BUTTON.

Hi,
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I'm trying to downgrade my MyTouch 4G Glacier to 2.1 Froyo, but I'm stuck on the HBoot step. Holding down the power button + the volume down key together doesn't seem to work. The phone doesn't even turn on when I'm holding down the buttons but it instantly turns on once I let go of either one.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance, guys.
EDIT: I'm on 2.3.3, if that makes any difference whatsoever.

I figured it out, but now I'm getting an invalid CID error. How do you turn S-ON off on 2.3.3? I've been searching for hours but I've yet to find an answer. Otherwise, I can't rollback to 2.2.1 so that I can run Visionary+ and install CWM.

Have you found the root guide for the panache? Thats what I used. Except I skipped the Gaining Temp-Root part.
I used the HTC Supertool v3 for temp root. First prep, then attempt perm-root.

I'm getting an invalid CID error every time I try flashing the 2.2 zip. At this point, I'm open to any suggestions you guys may have, even if it ends up bricking my phone.
Also, the perm-root feature in the aforementioned Supertool AIO doesn't do anything other than flash a "rooted" banner after a couple of seconds. Also, the "Sense Debranding" feature caused my phone to bootloop and now I can't even get past the HTC splash screen.
