[Q] Display Sucking all my battery! - Verizon Droid Charge

Since owning my charge i have yet to really experience this awesome battery life that everyone is talking about! I have used gummycharge 1.8.5 and am currently on eclipse v 1.1 and am losing 2-3% in about 5 minutes of sitting idely and that just doesn't seem right! I've noticed that my display is never using less then 80% can anyone offer any ideas or similar experiences?

App drawer > Task Manager > Running > Exit all > RAM > Clear memory
Make sure you do that whenever you are done using any app, and I mean ANY app, everything stays open and they will devour your battery life, hope this helps because doing this I get around 8-10 hours of HEAVY use :]

I had the same issue. I ended up going back to the stock rom with regular voodoo kernel. You should try the phone stock for a few days to get a base line for battery life. Also try wiping battery stats after your battery is fully charged.

My display is always ridiculously high too. Usually 70-80% on auto brightness. Something is not right. I'm on gummy 1.8.5.

I disable autobrightness and use InvisiBright. Also, touchwiz has the status bar trick (long hold) built in to help manually control brightness.

Juicedefender?

Does anyone use this app? I am using it and there seems to be a noticeable increase in my battery life. Is anyone else using it? How are your results?
No one has tried this? I notice a significant difference. I hope someone else tries this since it has added 30%ish to my battery life.
It works
I have used this app for some time and it works well. It consictanly lets me get over 20 hours of real use where i used to get 8-9. Now it disables data and then then only turns it on once every 15 min, but that is fine for me. Text and phone calls still work all the time.
Up until recently, this app was incompatible with CDMA phones running 2.1. Glad to know they've corrected that... gonna check it out.
I love this app, it also includes a widget that tell how much it is increasing your battery life, mine says it is increasing my life by x2.31, which is awesome! Goes great with Juice Blotter also!
I HIGHLY recommend this, and buy the upgrade also, UltimateJuice.
My 2 Cents,

im up to 4.20x but thats not saying too much with darchdroid for me. i was getting like 6hrs without putting it on the charger and i get about 12 now. so i unno where they get the 4.20x but it works.
i use it. its awesome.
http://groups.google.com/group/juicedefender
that's the google group you can get the newest .apk there. 177beta i believe. works on fresh 2.1.2 and darchdroid, about to try it on froyo
it seems to lag me pretty bad on DC... I think it is increasing my battery life... but it definitely slowed down my phone. Any tips?

Yes try darchdroid 2.7. It doesnt seem to lag my phone.
Using it on fresh. It's good. Can someone tell me their settings? I'm a bit lost..
Sent from my Gingerbread Hero using XDA app
i just recently started using it and it says im getting 1.48x more battery life... thats good i guess... wish it were higher but I guess it might increase over time. What does ultimatejuice and juiceblotter do?
ultimate juice tweaks the settings so that you can change when you want data/wifi enabled and for either 1 or 3 minutes at a time. For those who are rooted and overclocked, it allows you to tweak the cpu so you can save more battery power, also releives you from the need of set cpu or any oc app.
On my settings, I usually consume 1% battery every 2 to 3 hours when I am not using my phone So far I have had 12 hours of battery life on heavy use.. But every hero and rom is different so it is best to adjust each setting according to one's preferences.

[Q] Battery draining extremely fast. Any suggestions?

This rom used to be fine, now it is draining extrememly fast and I don't know why.
I am on Gingerbread KF2 and really haven't done anything else yet. I used to be able to make it through an average day of ~15 or so hours using the phone only for some messages, a call or two, and a few minutes of music. After this type of usage, the battery would be around 70-80% at the lowest usually. This is even with the screen at FULL brightness all day.
About a week ago, it started draining super fast. The same usage runs the phone down to about 20-30%, which is ridiculous. In battery stats, Android OS is always FAR above everything else with like 60%. A couple battery calibrations did nothing. I don't use task killers, but I do check my running apps. OS monitor didn't help me at all, and checking my currently running apps just showed mostly system apps that should not be draining hardly any battery at all.
Any suggestions? I think that about covers it all. This just has me stumped...
go through your apps and see how often they check for updates. there were a lot of updates recently and some settings may have changed. If nothing changed, can you do a quick scan with look out? Just to be safe. Also, try juice defender and set it to aggressive
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
Lookout didn't pick up anything and I set JuiceDefender to aggressive. Will JuiceDefender warn me of an app using excessive battery?
Nope, that battery is still dropping like crazy. (8% in half an hour from almost no use.)
Maybe I just need to reflash and start over fresh...
It will take a day out two to settle in. is your phone sleeping properly when the screen in off? Press the volume keys once it locks and if it makes the sound then it if still on.

Sleeping just fine.
Yea, I guess if you can't figure it out, you can reflash. That is a pain though. I would say to try out jd for a while longer and see if you get results. fb us usually the culprit for my battery drains, but if you checked all of your apps and changed them to manual, then there isn't much more you can do.try putting your screen to auto brightness

So either juice defender is helping or ADW launcher was using excesive battery. It is working better today after I switched back to launcher pro, but still going down pretty fast.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
ADW doesn't really drain much battery for me. It actually uses less RAM compared to LauncherPro and Go Launcher (for me).
I think you should just try reflashing your ROM, maybe flashing the new GB ROMs too.
Also, are you sure you're doing the battery calibrations properly? That might also be an issue.
Maybe it's not your phone or ROM...
I've had several ROMs in the last few weeks and have noticed this behavior on many of them....after searching, I found this.
T-Mobile has apparently noticed some abnormal battery issues in areas with their "4G" HSPA+. They're asking people in their support forum for a bit of info to help them find the issue.
support[dot]t-mobile[dot]com /thread/3544
The problem was initially believed to be affecting the G2 only, but is now believed to be affecting all phones in their "4G" footprint that started when they updated their towers in late July. The update provides the government an emergency channel to use, but it appears that it may be causing network issues.
Thanks for bringing it up, this is affecting me too. i lose 20-40% battery PER HOUR of use on the phone at 25% screen brightness playing a card game online (no wifi, just on HSPA+). This is on a BRAND NEW flash of KH2 (GB 2.3.4).
The top half of the phone gets really hot and battery drains like crazy. ceasing data use cools it down and reverts to normal battery use.

Terrible Battery life problem

I recently got a new lg g2x. Seems like an alright device (it's not the best out there, but it was free so it'll do). The only thing I can't stand it even with pretty low usage i'm getting around 12 hours of battery life max. With the same type of usage from the sensation I had before I would be getting around 24 hours or more.
Any one got any ideas of what to do? I'm currently on eaglesblood, I was on CM7 latest nightly before, and before that was stock. All battery life sucked though.
Any help would be appreciated. I did order a spare battery on ebay, that i'm hoping might do some good.

What happened to your Sensation?
Have you tried calibrating after flashing a new ROM? Personally, fitsnugly's CM7 Kang plus Faux's or Morfic's Trinity kernel has always given me really good battery life. Around 24 hours with average useage.
I'm returning it via American Express premium returns. By calibrate you mean?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Use the battery calibration app in the market after flashing new roms. If you can't figure out how to make your battery last longer, just buy an extended battery for like 12 dollars off ebay. Everybody has had good luck with them. There's a thread over it in the accessories portion of the g2x forum.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Alright, I already ordered a spare battery, but I'm not sure what else it could be. I'll post back after I get the battery and try calibrating it.
Just in case you may have overlooked this....turn your wifi off when not using it. Wifi burns goood.
My wifi is always off, although a few times when trying to turn it on when just flashing CM7 it resulted with not being able to turn it on due to some "error." A recent example of my battery drain is: Cell Standby 43%, Phone Idle 32%, Display 16%, Android System 11%.
Calibrating would be my advice. I get a good 24 hours of usage with CM7 with normal usage. I get 30+ with light usage, and this is with wifi set to never sleep.
Everyone that gets 16+ hours, do you have Data running all the time?
Data + Light Use = 8hr MAX
Juice Defender "Data Off" + Light Use = 14hrs MAX
Juice Defender "Data Off" + Medium USE = 8hrs
Only did a couple texting and my battery is at 35% already, and its only been 6 hours...
Battery Calibrate = Flash new rom > 100% > Calibrate > use and recharge for 3 days...

Did you check what is using battery? And if your phone is actually "sleeping" in battery info?
I'm running [ROM] [PORT] G2X SINGH UI v1.12.30 (MIUI + MODS)
Cell Standby 26%
Phone Idle 23%
Andriod System 17%
Telephony System 15%
FOTA Kill 7% << Don't know what that is
Launcher 6%
Voice Calls 5%
10017 4% << Don't know what that is
Everything else is 1%
How can I find out if my Phone "Actually Sleeping"?
If it's actually sleeping, then your phone would not have any activity under "awake" while the screen is off. Also currently I'm on 30 hours battery with 33% left.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
It show that it's was awake the whole time... the past 7 hours...
When I scroll down it show these that is on the whole time:
Launcher
Telephony Service on and off
Messaging
Facebook
Gmail
Email
Weird though, I have Juice Defender on Extreme.. so there isn't any data running until I enable it.
Well to find out if it's been awake the whole time you have to go in one more menu deeper. You can do that by pressing the graph in the battery stats.

i recently installed stock froyo (just rooted) and i actually get amazing battery life...not even running juice defender or anything and ive been using my phone quite frequently. data on and off throughout the day, near constant texting, approx 1hr worth of talk time and other miscellaneous activities and i still have 60% left of my battery...its been on for about 16hrs now

Well I just installed Advance Task Killer again.. even though alot of people said it doesn't work. I'm going to test that for the rest of the day.

I'm currently exploring which programs are preventing the phone to stay "asleep."
I freeze lots of programs I don't use, the only ones I see constantly active now are Google maps, Facebook, and the launcher (which I hope isn't one of the issues).
I froze the first 2 and I'll be doing tests today to see exactly what it is.
Do you guys use the default MIUI launcher?
Yeah I'm using the default MIUI launcher..
I also freezed MAP and FACEBOOK... see how that goes for the rest of the day.
Phone was off for about an hour straight, think I'm getting better "sleep" periods. Launcher activity is constantly blue.
I use the modified launcher with the extended settings. Only widget on it is fancy widget pro.
Going to see how well the phone fairs for the rest of the day.
EDIT:
Been doing research, apparently telocation causes a lot of battery drain, and alarm manager (although mine is almost always asleep).
I recently uninstalled fancy widget in hopes that launcher won't keep itself awake, and froze the telocation and no freeze or force close on anything.
I had a major battery issue with my last install of CM7 on a new G2X, what fixed it for me was enabling "use wireless networks" in location and security settings. I noticed something was odd when I ran speedtest and every time it would try to connect to servers in NY or NJ(I live in NC).....I'm not exactly sure what was going on, but enabling it fixed my battery life.

What is best ROM for battery life?

Hello,
Anybody who flashed tons of different ROMs, can you comment which ROM provided best battery life for you. I'm not looking for absolute numbers but comparison of different ROMs as far as battery drain is corncerned for the same user.
Is less about the rom and more about the kernel and u/v u/c in my opinion...radio can have an effect too
Currently I am on coca-cola with dag's .3 kernel using the Gideon battery saver script.
I like using that on the quickwiz rom too

Ive been flashing a lot of roms the past week. I'm currently using [ROM][UXKJ2]Buoyancy v1.3.0||Rogers/AT&T||[1/25/12]
Deff the best so far. Very quick and it's been 11.5 hours and I'm at 57%! Kudos to jomeister15 and his team!
You are on ATT network and in LTE enabled zone?
Nexus had the best for me. I also hear Buoyancy is great as well. Sky ice cream sandwhich is what im running now but i charge my phone a lot. An update should be coming soon for battery life fixes on it though.
radio on or off?
I've been running TPC v3 on my 727R for about 2 weeks, with his oc startup script. My battery life wasn't so great until I decided to start turning off data while not using it. Made my battery life go through the roof.
From full charged, I was still at 69% 20 hours later. Mind you, I wasn't using it that much but even still.
Which leads me to wonder: are people actually turning radio off when not in use? Because with it on, I can't get anywhere near those numbers.
What will you be missing if background sync is off while screen is out? everything relying on push notifications will stop working or will be there some other noticeable changes?

I use skyICS and I get pretty good battery.
The pic is of my first battery cycle on skyICS, with pretty decent usage on it. The red little bit at the end is me trying to kill the battery. I had wifi on, data, sync, flashlight, and ran quadrant standard non-stop for about a 30 minutes.
I think a lot of it will depend on how you use the phone. As mentioned above, simply turning off data saves you a lot of power. Going into airplane mode saves even more. I lose almost nothing in airplane mode (I put it on at night). You can get an app in the market that will auto turn off settings for you if you're too lazy to do it yourself.

Anyone getting good battery life with an ICS ROM?

I've tried them all, well, I did about a month ago. I can't get more than 5 - 6 hours of battery life. Went back to GB ROM and I'm up at 11 - 12 hours.
FWIW, been flashing ROMS since the original G1 so I'm not a n00b. Thanks!

I tried Sky ICS 4.2D-9, and battery life was decent. The best results I got from GB, I was also able to get on ICS. However, I was able to reach those results w/ GB more consistently. I was using NexusMod4 and now on 4.3.
I have the latest leak and I get much better battery life than the first two, but still not as good as gb.

it really depends on what apps u have installed, if they used data or not.
ive been through alot of phones, and never had a phone that I can use the net, and apps, and all that, and expect good battery life. if i let me phone sit and not talk or anything, yea i can get 2 days out of the battery lol.
The way i use my skyrocket, i get about 8 hours. By the time i get home from work in the afternoon, i throw it on the charger. and it get charged when i go to bed, no matter how much battery it has left.
Just buy the biggest battery you can find. lol and buy 2. batterys are cheap.
I use my phone before bed and sleep from 10 to 7 with it unplugged and next to me and barely kill my battery. I'm on pure CM9 though. Not one of the builds that are on here yet though. Can easily have it last for a whole 24 hours.

Yes the new release (ucle) is definetly the fastest and least buggy of the prior releases; on mohans embryo 3.0 I get all day battery life I strongly recommend his and Sean's new ucle rom I like mohans a bit more but try it out man this rom is comparable to mods nexus gb mod rom in speed reliability and battery life
I get absolutely terrible battery life with both the cm9 nightlies and AOKP. It drops about once every 30 seconds with my screen on...sad part is this is my 3rd battery replacement and my warranty expired like a month after I got the phone. So I'm stuck. Any battery tips for cm9?

I've tested most of the ICS ROM's and Sky ICS was the best battery by a noticeable margin - even better than stock GB.
Juice Defender is genius, it'll double most any ROM's battery life by disabling the data radio's while your screen is off... Great App, highly recommended.
Battery life is always going to be hit-or-miss; as a user you have to find the best ROM for your phone, and yours alone. You're going to see a couple people post battery lives that look ridiculous and you'll get a terrible pang of jealousy, but in the end their usage circumstances are likely wildly different from yours and you'll never be able to replicate what they've done exactly.
I found that I got better battery life with CM9 than SkyICS, even though seanz' ROM absolutely was smooth and reliable. In a situation where I was on LTE all day and had no wifi available with minimal, sporadic use CM9 used less juice than SkyICS...for my phone.
JuiceDefender is a great app if you don't mind going back to the Windows Mobile method of polling for updates instead of push notifications. I can't stand feeling like my device is a brick except once every thirty minutes or so. I find that for my usage my battery works perfectly well for what I need operating with all cylinders firing.
I just got over 24 hours with more than 30% battery left on CM9, 1h20 screen on, probably 30 minutes of talk time, Wifi on at all times. There is a great post on power saving tips, I can't find it but the tips are below. I've done most of them (4,5,6,7,8) and it's definitely helped. The other thing is that I found out by using CPU Spy and Better Battery Stats that after a full charge overnight, even though the phone was off the charger, it would never go into deep sleep because there was a kernel wake lock on the charger process. A reboot would clear it, and since then the power savings have been dramatic since it goes to deep sleep about 90% of them time. Might want to check that out as well.
1) Droidwall, without question my most useful app. Only applications that I WANT to connect to Internet can. It takes some configuring, but is well worth it.
2) I don't have any automatic email sync, which some of u may, so this probably helps. I just manually sync when I want to, no time sensitive emails for me.
3) Likewise with point 2, i have no active sync of any app really, including Google Talk, or Google+.
4) My favourite power saving app, Lux Auto Brightness. It allows you to custom set brightness levels in various lighting. It again, takes a bit of initial setup, but is worth gold when it's done. I have it set to adjust on phone wake.
5) Goes without question I'm using the ucle2 modem, best ics modem the skyrocket has at this time, for at & t and rogers
6) Under settings > performance, I've underclocked to 192 min and 1188 max, with on demand. I've noticed no performance hit, and it sticks after boot, even though if u got back into the menu the values seem to have reset. I check with cpuspy.
7) Disable surface dithering and enable 16bit transparency, that seems to have increased smoothness without sacrificing display quality.
8) Obvious one, under settings > developer, mke sure force gpu rendering is set to enable, and both Windows and Transition animation scale values are set to 0.5.
