no Ext4 conversion...
Check the voodoo folder on your SD card. See if there is a disable_lagfix folder inside of it. If so delete and reboot. If not then on to the next possibility.

Well ****. Try reflashing the otb kernel and see what that does. If it still doesn't convert. May try a different recovery

Ok.. i tried that.. still the same issue. its actually worse now.. with gmail FC lol. im using CWM voodoo lagfix recovery 3.0.2.8x.ti from time infinity.
That may be why. I had some hit a miss issues with that recovery. I use the one by nemisses. OTB recovery. I will link it too you. Its possible there may he something else going on. As for the fource closes. Can try clearing app data on those apps and that may fix that. Heres the recovery. This can he flashed the same as the kernel. Flash the recovery. Reboot into recovery and then try flashing the kernel. Also to make sure you did get the voodoo OTB I will link that as well.

OK.. still having issues... once i install ee19 pnp1 i have issues. it allows me to set up gmail ect.. but once i reboot it causes FC on google frame work.. clearing the info on it doesnt fix it. also once i reboot all of the settings i input previously are undone. ok as far as the kernel.. it still doesnt format to ext4.. ive checked with voodoo app to confirm this. my steps were as follows..
I fresh odin EE19.. then odin cwm.. i reboot into cwm.. then flash the cwm version you linked me... then i reboot into cwm and flash pnp1.. then flash otb kernel you linked me. reboot into phone. begin initial set up... gmail ect... i reboot into cwm and enable lagfix.. no response.. also upon rebooting, all my settings are reset from previous boot.
hmmm never had such a difficult time before.. i was on EE10 pnp previously.. never had issues besides my fone not getting phone calls on occasion lol...
i tried to be clear as possible on my steps.. any ideas?
I have had the issue where all my settings and such was undone on reboot before. Don't know what was causing it and it eventually fixed itself. But never had a issue with Voodoo not converting. That is wild. Honestly I don't know at this point. Its like its there but not at the same time. Have you been on anything other than touchwiz based ROMs. MIUI, CM7, or AOSP of any sort? That is the only thing I can think of. I know its the holiday weekend but some of the actual devs should be in and out through out the next few days. They may have some insight as to what's going on. Another option would be to jump on the mesmerize IRC channel and see what they say.
One last thing. Do you have voltage control installed? If so. When you open it does it say incompatible kernel or does it allow you to adjust settings and such?

I'm having no issues with my flashlight app. I use Tiny Flashlight
The only issues ive had with Heinz57 is that I cant get the clock on the status bar to change any color but black. And sometimes the market does some weird things, and force closes. So I am having trouble downloading apps/games.
EDIT
I fixed the color issue by restarting my phone after I changed the settings. That worked.
Im still having trouble with the market though. I will try to reflash my phone and see what happens.
Is anyone else having that issue on Heinz57?
my setup
EC10 with root and recovery
CWM 2.5
Heinz57 v4.40.11
OTB Reloaded v 1.3
so far 0 problems whatsoever and its faster than hell. if you dont match this setup. try it. its been literally flawless for me.
i cant get Heinz57 to install. i got the latest update version (5/3/11) and i also completely wiped my phone all the way back to stock (Froyo 2.2) and i have followed directions to a T. but my problem is when i select the zip file to install the ROM from the red recovery it gets to "Installing Update..." and just freezes. the loading bar does nothing and the phone is useless. any suggestions?

My guess is that you aren't waiting long enough. This Rom takes a little longer than most to install.
how long should i be waiting? i can run the EC10 PnP v0.3 ROM with no problems but when i want to switch to ANYTHING else it just stops when it gets to the "Installing Update..." step. it even still has the lines in the loading bar instead of being solid with the download progress. AHHHH! it's driving me crazy! i've been going at it for two days solid now with no luck (although i'm only a noob).
try using the 4/30/11 or wahtever it is. thats what im using and its perfect. the only changes in the new version is he fixed a bug with the MIUI lockscreen i beleive. its basically identical.

You should make sure you're using the latest version of cwm located below, let us know if you still have the issue. I typically flash the .tar in odin (it will replace the existing blue stock recovery so that you don't have to apply any update.zip to get into CWM)

For heinz 57, you require to already have EC10 and the PnP already installed.
So the order i did things in was...
1. EC10 Root and Recovery flashed using odin
2. installed update.zip from blue CWM to get red CWM, , then cwm-recovery-all.zip to keep it red on boot (i think i rebooted once here to make sure i got to red right away alright - no problems)
3. installed mesmerize ec10 .5 pick n pack, from red CWM,
4. then Heinz_57.Hybrid_v4_30_11_OTB.zip installed from cwm red.
hope this helps - i had problems installing heinz 57 until i ready very carefully.
addition: you only need EC10 for heinz, but i could not get just the EC10 root and recovery to work with heinz, so i tried installing the PnP ater the Root and recovery and then heinz installed fine no problems. I am, however having problems with the gps. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1067693 for details if you can help - thanks).

er...not exactly.
I've flashed this rom a dozen times, and every kernel available. It works just fine.
Try This.
1: Do a stock (non-rooted) odin flash.
2: Boot your phone, do any account setup, blah blah.
3: Turn Phone off, flash custom recovery-all-fixed
4: Reboot, let fully boot, then turn off, reboot to custom recovery.
5: Install heinz 5/3 (it comes with a kernel, and it's rooted) from zip on sdcard (not update.zip)
6: Reboot, let fully boot, then turn off.
7: Boot to recovery, wipe dalvik and data and then flash your theme.
8: Enjoy.
Make sure you read all the info provided by the devs on their respective threads. If you're applying a ported theme, then read the original thread for that theme.
And remember kids...if you don't know what you're doing, and you have trouble following clearly outlined instructions, and don't check in chat for answers, fail to read guides and tutorials sticked, or are just downright simple...you probably have no business messing with your phone.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Read, alot, ask lots of questions in the right places if you can't find the answers you need from reading. Then post a thread.
And tell 'em J sent ya!

This is something with mrhome. I will add to my op post about it. I didn't know that Livewallpaper work with the transitions.
Hello everyone -
I installed the GAS EC10 PNP based rom through CWM after clearing my Dalvik cache. Now my home screen button doesn't work, my search key doesn't work, and I cannot download anything from the market (just says "starting download").
What should I try next? I can go back to Heinz 57 but I was looking for something FAST and my Task Killer still had me running at <130MB on H57 as installed.
Appreciate it. And check it out: this is my FIRST post EVER!
Happy first post! As for your problem have you tried a reflashed of that rom? Also did you do the prerequisite data wiping? And a note about your task killer and the memory being used....Android leaves applications in the ram even when not in use so they start up faster. That will not make a big difference in the speed of your phone. What will is your kernel, processor speed and what type of file system you are on. (rfs-stock, ext4-voodoo, mtd-latest aosp file system) Have you tried a voodoo kernel with lagfix enabled? Or one of nemesis's kernels that you can overclock?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Thanks for the feedback!
I have now flashed 3 ROM's and I am kind of freaking out because the home softkey and the search softkey no longer work in the ROM's. through CWM, I ran a "keytest" and they all gave me numbers so they did seem to work (whether or not the numbers were correct, I don't know).
Re: your comments on the speed and kernel, etc: I don't know! I followed this newbie guide and in my CWM it says "CwM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery". Does that imply I have the voodoo kernel? Is the lagfix enabled by default or do I need to do that as well?
ANY help would really be appreciated! I am hoping I don't need to flash back to the USCellular standard and take my phone into the store for service...

That doesn't mean anything necessarily. How the phone is actually running for you is what to pay attention to. RAM numbers can be misleading.

The text doesn't mean anything, they all say Voodoo Lagfix Recovery. To check if lagfix is enable just go to the Voodoo portion of recovery and it should show some text at the bottom saying if lagfix is enabled. And no it is not enabled by default. You would know if it was enabled because the phone will take a good 5 minutes or so to boot up during the initial filesystem conversion and the voodoo lady talks you through the process. You'd know if it happened.
I got a request earlier today to make deodexed versions of the EP3HA release, as I had made for the EP1W (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1260214) release. So here it is. These files are 7zip just like the original release from TBH. I tried .zip .rar and .7z and found the highest compression was with .7z so thats what I used.
There are absolutely no changes from the TBH release except that it is deodexed. It will delete all data and leave you stock rooted, including the recovery, so you will certainly want to follow up your ODIN flash with a flash of CWM 4.0.0.8, which is also attached.
EP3HA Full Deodexed
EP3HA Debloat Deodexed
CWM Recovery 4.0.0.8
In case you want to use the Debloated version, but there are still some apks that you want from the full version, here is a link with all of the original apks from the full version:

Yes, that is the stock theme. However, because it is deodexed, you can either theme it yourself, or use a theme that is already out there.

Deodexed allows [easy] theme creation and install. It is possible to theme without deodexing, but its more difficult. Aside from that, no advantages that I know of. Some have claimed performance differences one way or the other, but I don't think there is any substantial difference.
If you are asking what is deodexing...http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-odex-and-deodex-in-android-complete-guide/. Basically, for each apk there is an odex file, by deodexing you combine them into a single file.

Buzzing, popping crackling noise issue solved?
I've had issue with buzzing, popping crackling noise during a phone call running several different Gingerbread roms, until I encountered this one. I honestly don't know the reason or the cause of the buzzing noise running on other GB roms prior to this one.
I've been running the full deodexed version of this ROM for a few days now, and it has been running flawlessly, no more buzzing noise issue so far. I made sure I took cautious steps installing it. First, I installed the factory EE4 rom properly, back to stock, before I odin this rom. Then I installed Imnut's [8-17-11] Clockwork Mod Recovery (the orange version), and backed up everything. Then I installed imoseyon's GB kernel, v3.1.0, and backed up everything. I use GO Launcher EX (not a big fan of TW stock launcher).
I'll continue testing and will report if I run into the same issue.
hey stranula just a quick question, would it be possible for you or someone who knows how (if its not hard I could even learn myself) to make a CWM package of the debloated leak? I like to be 'bleeding edge' lol and run rom betas but its a pain in the ass to have to Odin back to stock every time to start over when I mess something up

Lol. No prob. FYI, when I said I ran a backup, I was using CWM 4.0.1.4 to do an image backup of the whole system.
I hope that solves your buzzing issue. I'm still buzz-free so far.
Well I just made a couple phone calls and no buzzing or crackling. I hope it holds out. I didn't do the cwm backup. Do you think that's necessary to avoid the static noise?

No, no effect to the static noise issue.
I just recently discovered this nifty tool (cwm backup) myself. The image backup/restore feature lets you backup your current system, as a whole, in case you want to restore it at later date. It stores it into a file in clockworkmod folder. Usually whenever I'm satisfied the way my system works, I'd back it up to the card. And if I want to try a different ROM, for example, I'd run a backup before flashing the new ROM, and if I feel like going back to my previous system, I can just restore it from the card. I may choose to backup the new system prior to doing that, just in case I want to flip back to it. The feature seems to be working well for me. YMMV.
I had flash multiple roms on the sgs4g and eventually flashed back to kg4 stock after having random shut offs and other issues with those roms and now consistent reboots right after it turns on. I wiped caches fixed permissions All I can do is get her into download mode and cwm voodoo red screen. At one point during the reboot it went on to AT&T network
The kg4 i have is a stock leaked version with ext4 installed on it. After a day of flashing the phone usually goes into a reboot loop. Has anyone experiences these issues before? Could my motherboard be fubar?
I wonder if your bootloaders aren't hosed? If you can get into CWM, I'd suggest turning off voodoo, get it into download mode, and ODIN chadster214's KG4:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183413
I've found that ROM to be a good starting point for GB ROMs. Let me know how it goes.
Thats actually the kg4 rom I am on and have always used for bootloaders. I factory restored it in cwm and it stays on chad's kg4 the rebooting has stopped for now. As for voodoo linda cant convert due to sd card even though shes done it before and its already partitioned to do so.I think the kg4 bootloaders are fine since they lasted this long until now. Can launchers and voodoo cause this rebooting and shut off problems? I'm going to odin it to chadster's again so it can erase everything.Ill give it a day before problems occur again and report back. Thanks for the response.
Firmware: 2.3.4

1.So I flashed chadsters kg4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=1392615 with odin.
2.Then I successfully rooted it following the instructions from the link. Phone works fine no reboots after about 8 hours of use. (I fresh reinstalled apps from market no Titanium restore)
3.Next I flash the kernel stock+Voodoo-T959VKG4.tar from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194032 which gives me red CWM with voodoo ext4 lagfix. After flashing that kernel I start experiencing the random shut off when screens locked, and rebooting issue. Also I get the "can't access the system/tmb/csc error" everytime when flashing in cwm and reg recovery, and im wondering if thats normal.
So I guess its the voodoo kernel thats causing the issues for my phone. Before I started flashing other roms it was fine, now its acting up
Sounds like lagfix is enabled but is causing you troubles. Get into cwm and disable ext4 lagfix, that should keep your phone from reboots.

I no longer have voodoo installed since I i flashed Kg4 again and left it rooted. The rebooting has stopped. Now the issue is the phone shuts of silently on occasions when the Screen is locked and turned off in m. Then I have to hold on power to to turn it on again. Are there any other recommended stable roms?

KI3 seems to be the "newest" and most stable leak. I personally find the KJ1/3 leaks to be very unstable.
Do you use a task killer? If you do, remove that and never touch anything like it again. That definitely causes random reboots.

I believe you have to disable voodoo before flashing, else you may be stuck with some parts of the file system in ext4. I'm wanting to say I had problems after going from a voodoo kernel to a new ROM when I forgot to disable. I ended up flashing chadster's KG4 ROM, drhonk's KG4 kernel, going into recovery, disabling voodoo on everything, then re-flashing to a non-voodoo ROM/kernel.

I have advanced task killer but I don't use it (probably running in background). The only KI3 i can find on this forum is valhallas KI3 and that comes packaged with voodoo. As of right now I'm following stephens tip on flashing dr honks voodoo back and disabling system lag fix and voodoo lagfix, then reflashing to non voodoo rom.
I will report back on results and thanks a lot for the help guys I really appreciate it.

Stock KI3 is out there. I'm running KJ3 which is the latest. It seems your mileage may vary as others find the KI series more stable. Stock KI3 is here:

Good luck
Alright thanks Ill try the ki3. I just did the recooked gb and put froyo back on and i still have the random shut offs while its in sleep mode. I noticed the more I use it or the phone is active it doesn't shut off. Chances increase when phone is put away or not in use.Its like a chuck norris powersave mode, turns itself off when im not using it.
When phone is charging it doesn't happen. Its very hard to duplicate the issue, and my heart races every time i click the power/wake button. Ill do some more research if not ill deal with it. Thanks again.

Sorry, I just lol'd when I read "Chuck Norris powersave mode", LOL! :x
Anyways, I would suggest you to remove your task killer anyways. In the worst case scenario, it might actually be faulty hardware. :/
I have been running Tweaked 2.0 for a week or so, and it's great, but I continue to get hotboots. I'm not running anything else...no tweaks, no other kernels, just plain ROM...and still get a couple of hotboots a day.
I wanted to try the FP1 PBJ kernel, but that requires EXT4 for wifi to work.
I have the ext4_formatter_all.zip utility on my sd card, I booted to recovery, ran the formatter, reflashed Tweaked 2.0, then restarted.
My phone hangs on the Samsung logo.
The only method I found of getting it working again is go back to stock, take the OTA, then put Tweaked back on it.
So, I am doing this wrong? I used to be formatted for EXT4 in other ROMs, but I can't seem to get it to work now.
Not sure where you heard that PBJ requires ext4 for wifi to work because it doesn't.
Running the formatter does exactly what is says. It formats the partitions. There is nothing at all in them when it's done. You have to run the formatter, then reflash the rom and kernel.
FWIW, PBJ will likely do nothing at all to fix your hotboots. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you're running a lockscreen with music controls available. If you run the Circles lockscreen, it will probably fix your hotboot situation.
I must be mixing things up with respect to file system format, pbj kernel and wifi. My bad.
My steps are the same as you listed except I was not flashing the pbj kernel after flashing the ROM. I thought I could do that from Tweaktools. So I was trying to let the phone boot up, was gonna check that everything was EXT4, then install pbj.
But now that I think about it, are you saying the only way to use EXT4 with Tweaked 2.0 is to have the pbj kernel installed? If so, then that's my answer. If not, then I still don't understand why my phone won't boot after I format ext4/flash ROM.

Because running the formatter reformats the filesystem where the kernel is stored as well. Tweaked doesn't ship a kernel at all, so if you just flash it, you don't have a kernel on your phone at all.
...and regarding the hotboots, yeah I didn't expect the new kernel would help there. I figured if I'm gonna continue to get hotboots, I might as well see if I can get better performance out of it.
I don't use any lockscreens. I have it disabled entirely. And I rarely play music on my phone...Pandora once in a while. Maybe disabling lockscreens contributes to hotboots too?

have you seen dwitherell's hotboot fix in the TS 2.0 thread? there are several posts about hotboots there (mostly about changing the heapsize from 64 to 80 or 96 I believe).
I read on another forum that it could be attributed to an app or two that you are running (maybe even have that app installed on your SDCard - trying moving them to your phone's internal memory one by one and see if the problem persists).
regarding re-partitioning:
so here's what I think you need to do:
- download and install terminal emulater
- find out if you are RFS or EXT4 (if RFS, proceed to next step)
- download and CWM IMO's kernel (after mounting, wiping cache/dalvik)
- re-boot
- re-install the dirty PBJ kernel via CWM (after mounting, wiping cache/dalvik)
I have not tested this yet - as I have no real need to outside of just curiousity. so if you want to take the plunge, go for it. but I'm not responsible for what happens....
I tried the heapsize tweaks, stepping up the heapsize over the course of a few days. I think it might have reduced the hotboots a little (like 3-4 boots over a 2 day period instead of 4-5 boots.) I will start investigating my apps, though most are already installed on the sd card.
I'm formatting to EXT4 right now...fingers crossed!
Update: all good now! Thanks Shrike!!
Here's what I did when I moved to FP1:
1. Flash FP1 ROM of choice, and then flash imoseyon's Voodoo kernel (the fact that wifi breaks on this kernel doesn't matter)
2. Boot phone. Wait as the phone reformats as ext4 (saves your data too!)
3. Once phone starts up, boot back into CWM and then flash the FP1 PBJ. This will fix your wifi.

Thanks for the suggestion kv. I was hoping my question would result in the documentation in one place of the the methods to correctly format to ext4. Now we have that (assuming yours is correct LOL!) Of course it was my own dumb oversight that Tweaked 2.0 didn't come with a kernel that caused all my problems in the first place.
I opted for the ext4 formatter route mainly because of the hotboots I get with this ROM. I figured, if I'm gonna make changes, make the ones with as clean an install as possible...and the formatter wipes everything.
Fyi, switched over to ext4. Worked great except that my phone was stuck at the boot screen for 40 minutes. A simple power off and power back on and I was good. So the steps I outlined above worked (for me). But curious to see if anyone else got stuck at the boot screen after the repartitioning.
tappin' that....
Yep, same thing happened to me. Got stuck on the first boot after flashing. Powered off, restarted, good to go.
And on a side note, I've had zero hotboots since going to EXT4 and PBJ FP1. Was getting 3-4 a day before that.
actually just got my first hotboot - tried taking a pic with the Camera Zoom FX, and when saving the pic, it did a hotboot.... tried it again, and it was fine - so I don't think it was a direct result of the ROM or anything else...
Help - rfs or EXT4

I got stuck too on the reboot. I didn't wait 40 minutes though. Restarted after 5 minutes. Sometimes you just know when to pull the plug.
