What does the error say? It seems like this information might help...

its says "Were having trouble creating this smart dj mix. in settings, make sure the connect with zune option is turned on, and connect your phone to your pc" i have done both of these.

Going back to the old ZuneHD
Make sure you have enough music on your phone and that you've listen to enought music. Thats was the fix with the Zune HD should work on Windows Phone

There are two different error messages, one is his "Cannot create this Smart DJ..." and the other one says "We don't have enough music to create this smart DJ playlist..."
I assume since he is getting the first, more generic message something else is wrong, and its not due to not having enough music, otherwise I assume it would have given him the 2nd error message.
Unfortunately I have not been able to replicate the first error message so I don't know what's wrong. The Zune HD was picky when it came to what songs it would work for, and I don't know if the case is the same for Windows Phone. You may to try these things if you haven't already:
1) Try a bunch of different songs/artists. Does it happen to all of them? And when you get the error, is it always the same one?
2) Try a popular, more recognized artist. You may also want to try playing an artist to see if any of the background images change to reflect that artist. If it does not, its a sign that Zune does not properly recognize the track or that your tags are wrong/incomplete. This is the top cause of Smart DJ and of background images not working as they should.
3) If you don't have a Zune Pass, then Zune will not grab content from the Marketplace even if you have the option to do so on.
4) In order for Smart DJ to work properly, you need multiple tracks from the same artist/album so that Zune can properly probe those tracks for information to pull similar artists/tracks.
5) Your region may be affecting what you can or cannot use on your phone. Certain features are restricted by region (Local Scout, Smart DJ, Podcasts, etc.). So if you aren't in a region that is supported by the feature, it won't work. Normally with Windows Phone, I've noticed that the feature doesn't appear at all if it isn't supported, so technically, I would assume that if you are in a region that doesn't support Smart DJ, you should not be seeing the ability to use Smart DJ. But then again, this is beta, and mistakes happen.
6) It's beta. It's not working properly for you. You may have to start from scratch, resync your phone, or some other drastic measures. It's not guaranteed to work, and frankly, I'm surprised my phone works as wonderfully as it should.
That's all I can think of thus far.

Great Post anyway to give you props for that?

thank you, it started working yesterday for some reason. maybe it took time to connect to zune services or something

shazam music id

ive just put it on my phone, connected to wifi and it cant identify anything ive tested.
is it a crappy program or am i missing a trick here?
Is it giving you an error or just it doesn't recognize it?
To be sure that it works try to identify a very popular song, for example Madonna. If it doesn't recognize it then something is going wrong . If it recognize it then the songs that you are looking for are not at the programs database.-
just doesnt recognise it
i tried a 'la roux' song 1st to give it a bit of a trickier one
then when it didnt get that i tried black eyed peas boom boom pow.
then after your suggestion tried michael jackson - billie jean.
whats the use in having a music id that only id's music that only an idiot wouldnt know
just says 'your phone was unable to complete the i.d'
Hmmm...
It works great for me. I will say that it doesn't work that well for picking up old(er) songs, but overall it has been very good for me.
Even shows the album art.

I would think that your phone isn't connected to the internet when you try to ID the song or maybe you dont have any reception. Because I got that error in an area where there was little to no reception and my phone couldnt establish a connection to the server.
Try it when your phone is synced to your comp (ie. Use your computers internet). See if that works.

[Q] Blueant Q2 and WP7

I'm not sure where to place this so please feel free to move this thread.
does anyone know if the Blueant Q2 bluetooth headset is compatible with Windows Phone 7 devices re downloading of the contacts to the headset for caller name announce? I'm planning to get one, would want to try but i cant find any store where I can try it out. I've also been tweeting @myblueant, asking about this for some time but they won't reply.

Yes, fully compatible, I use it daily... Definitely the best headset I've ever used. This also shows that bluetooth is capable of transferring the contact information and data, it just isn't enabled anywhere on the phone yet... But the Q2 takes care of it automagically.
Cool, thank you so much! Ordering one now. Thanks again!
Just make sure your contact list is how you want it before you pair, meaning if you like it Last Name, First Name, or First, Last because thats how it will transfer to the headset. There is always the update option, but its better just to have it done the first time perfectly. It'll take about a minute to transfer, maybe a little more.
ok i'll remember that one. thanks again!

Successfully transferred 1990 contacts from my Samsung Omnia 7 to BlueAnt ST3! (Just need another 10 friends to round it off!)
Took me two attempts, though. First time BlueAnt said phone wasn't compatible with the contact transfer feature.
I deleted the BlueAnt ST3 device from the phone (press and hold on device name on phone to pop-up delete menu) and it worked fine the second time.
Note that the phone said device was "disconnected" during the transfer process, but all seemed to work OK.

[Q] Updating 'altered' MP3s on phone?!

I'm sorry to ask this question as the answer is probably obvious to most (but not to me!)
Most of my MP3s vary a lot in volume so I discovered a program called MP3Gain to alter the playback levels so that they are more uniform.
The only problem is that the Zune Software does not seem to recognise that the MP3 files have been altered in any way and therefore refuses to update my Lumia with the new, MP3Gained files!
Is there any quick way to just update all the songs on my phone with the edited files automatically or do I have to delete all the songs and upload them manually?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated!
Hmm... did MP3Gain not update the files' Modified timestamp? If it didn't, that may be why Zune doesn't realize they've changed. If it did, and Zune still doesn't pick up on that... weird.
One sure way is to delete the music from the phone, then re-sync. This actually shouldn't take much (if any) longer than just re-syncing all the files would anyhow.
I should have said that initially!
MP3 Gain does modify the time/ datestamp but Zune still ignores it anyway!
That's weird... I've seen Zune automatically update files when I connect my phone even though I tweaked something (like my rating of them) on the PC when the phone was disconnected. It may not notice third-party changes, though... silly of it.
You could also try just re-syncing the files (select all your music files in Zune, then drag+drop them onto the phone icon). Zune may then notice the changes and send the update.
Thanks, I'll give that a try!
Doesn't work!
Even when I change the rating in Zune, it doesn't sync to the phone.
I tried giving a song a rating in Explorer and that also doesn't make Zune sync.
I'm not really sure what else to do now...
What's wrong with just deleting the songs from the phone (very easy to do in Zune) and then re-syncing them? I meant it when I said this wouldn't take any longer. You'd have to overwrite every song file anyhow, which will take just as long.
The problem is that I have 30gb of songs on my pc and only 10gb on the phone, so I have to remember exactly which songs I have on the phone from the collection on the pc!
Is there some way that the phone can just restore all the music on the phone in one go?
Every time I've deleted music in the Zune app on the phone and then connected to the pc, the music stays deleted and isn't restored from the pc.
The strange thing is that the Zune software recognises that the mp3s have been changed as it says that "media files updated". It just doesn't update them on the phone.
This is what I did: create a playlist "Music on Phone" (can be done from the phone if I remember correctly) and whenever you add, or delete music in this playlist, it'll get automatically synced. Should you decide to delete all music for whatever reason, it's a one-click-sync to get it all back then..
Regards..
Thanks ombre33, that sounds like exactly what I'm after!
I'll give it a go and see if it works for me.

Samsung Dex on pc, now working for S10+

I installed smart switch which prompted me, I thought. "No that's a mistake I know it ink out works on the note 10 as I tried this previously"
I installed it and it was working, well some of it. See below.
*Refresh rate seemed to be lacking
*Resolution didn't seem as clear as the 1080 resolution on my laptop
*Sky Q didn't let me view "protected content, so audio was there but just a black screen.
*starling bank, same again. Black screen
*Email. Works fine
*Linux in dex. Works just fine!
I think this is all since I updated the phone over smart switch to SIG version. It's odd because when I checked in the phone menu there was no update, but it was on smart switch.
Now the question is, why would you need this? You are on a pc, but want another cut down pc? Simple I would add it to my work machine! That way you can jump into your email on a laptop. Maybe even play films from Mx player on the train by using your dex!
Many possibilities, which aren't apparent until you change your mindset

Media storage got crazy on my old Android 6 Lenovo phone

I don't know what has happened to my old Lenovo Vibe X on Android 6.01 and how to resolve the issue without wiping data (no guarantee it would help - I'm now thinking...).
The phone is temporarily at my relative's disposal: i've switched to her Google account to let her use my old phone. She complained the call ring was very weak. I decided to change the ringtone, but I found out that I cannot do it anymore, the Media/Audio/Ringtones folder with standard OGG files is not visible (I cannot select ringtones from there anymore). "Other ringtones" option directs me to some installed Audio player, which does not allow to select any MP3 files in ANY folder (they cannot be played, because the player reports they are not added to Media storage). When I try to use "Scan media" option - it is just stuck. I've tried to use another programs like SD scanner, they either report Media database read error or finally report success status, however the audio files are still not playable.
I've tried to: clear caches (Android and Dalvik), disable / enable Media system app and delete its data.
I've also noticed that NOW my USB Audio player reports that HiRes DAC is not found (!) and does not want to play files in HiRes mode (through the chip instead of generic driver) - actually, my phone does have ES9018 DAC...
I am not sure this problem is related to Media storage, however all this together is very weird.
Any thoughts what could happen and what should I do?
How long was she using it and how good are her Android skills? May have caught a rootkit or virus. Anything below Android 9 is vulnerable to the Xhelper type rootkits that can worm their way out of the user partition. Real nasty critters...
If it just went nuts, I highly suspect malware especially in the hands of a novice user.

As @blackhawk wrote, the user may have infected the phone.
The only solution is to flash the phone manufacturer's stock ROM.
I will try to do this as soon as I get a chance, nowadays there is no other smartphone to use for my relative, so have to wait a couple of days.
BTW - regarding "HiRes DAC is not found" message... is there a chance that guys who replaced the battery in this smartphone soldered out ES9018 chip??

Likely a software, firmware or settings issue. Malware could also be the root cause for losing the high resolution DAC.
It's possible the tech damaged this circuit but probably not likely. Obviously if it was working before they got their paws on it then they are likely to blame.
