Which route should I take when it comes to extended battery? - HTC Sensation

I'm not sure if I should buy the PowerSkin extended battery and kill two birds with one stone. I'll have a case and a extended battery all in one.
http://www.amazon.com/PowerSkin-AP1...ensation/dp/B005441EVQ/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_1_1
Or I can always buy a separate extended battery and then the Invisible Shield Maximum Skin
The thing is, I don't know which of these two should I buy?
http://www.amazon.com/GoCharge-Exte...ENSATION/dp/B004Z8QM32/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_2_0
This one is 2000MHz capacity, I like how this one can charge two devices at once, and can be charged via the car
http://www.amazon.com/Anker-SlimTal...ensation/dp/B0054U7A0O/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_2_2
This one is 3200MHz, I like how this one is a lot larger and despite only charging one devices, I don't mind.
So, which route should I take?

Seidio.com has the 1750mAh Slim battery ready to ship. 49.99usd

Here are my thoughts.
The Powerskin is ugly as sin, and you're stuck with that extra thickness, weight, and the lump on the side all the time.
I carry a extra power supply that holds 2 AA batteries, and a retractable usb cable when I'll be out and may need extra power. It's cheap, light, easy to get replacement batteries and charge them. Most of the time the phone is unencumbered, but I've got extra power if needed. I can also carry a spare pair of AA's if needed. If I'm out walking I have a backpack anyway so carrying the extra parts isn't a problem.
But this all depends on your aesthetic sense, how often you actually need extra juice, and which is more convenient for you personally.

7800mAh and not too big

$39?
This $6.50 gizmo holds 2 AA.
http://www.amazon.com/WHITE-AA-Powered-Backup-Charger-USB-Powered/dp/B003XTMVN4
I use 2650 mah rechargables, so 5300 mah, and you can always carry a couple of spare AA's, giving you 10,600 mah total on the go.

I bought 3 1450 batteries for £15. I didn't give much expectations, however, they are seems good enough as HTC original battery.
Surprised.
Send from my awesome HTC Sensation + XDA Premium app.

I got the Powerskin and although it adds bulk, I love what it does. Gives me plenty of juice for the day so I don't have to worry about charging... it lets me charge my friends phones as well when they run dry (for food btw ) and also near the end of the night, I can leave it in the car and just run the phone for when I go out so it doesn't look like I got to buldges in my pants

Nexus One 1600 mAh Battery from Seidio

It sounds like the 1600 mAh battery from Seidio will fit in the stock battery place with no need for a different cover.
Is there any reason not to get this battery, other than spending $55?

For a really rough estimate, if your average battery life is 12 hours, then an increase by 200 mAh (~14%) will give you and extra ~ 1.7 hours. Emphasis on really rough.
Probably not worth it unless (1) you are away from a charger for long periods of time, or (2) your original battery goes bad.
what about the one that adds only 5mm of extra thickness? that doesnt seem to bad
5mm may not sound like much, but the phone is only 11mm thick now. so, it'd add almost 50% to the phone's thickness. that's significant.
I would not mind getting any battery with improved life, battery life is pretty important to me. I am just wanting to see how much extra will I realistically be getting - before I make the purchase. Other than the 200 extra mAh, build quality can influence how much more (or less) the battery life ends up being. If it add's 25%+, I may just buy it.
Same here, the more battery the better! As long as the size is the same which is a plus!!
sounds like it's more of an additional battery than a better replacement, considering how little additional juice it'll potentially give.
I'd be interested how it compares to the price of an original battery, then just buy the cheaper one to have an extra batt
I picked up one of http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002FU6KF2/ref=oss_product
It's a charger, works with any gadget that uses USB, it's TINY (smaller than the phone itself by a good bit, easily pocketable) and it can roughly double battery life. Slightly less convenient than a spare Nexus One battery, but easier to charge, store and use, as well as being able to use it with ANY usb device.
does anybody know if the battery guage will be able to recalculate for the bigger battery? i had that problem on the tilt/htc tytn II and that was really annoying because you have a bigger battery but no idea what the actual charge is
The Seidio is too expensive.
I would rather buy Momax from Hong Kong.
any luck on ebay?

I picked up a 5000mah external pack recently, which is about 3 times greater than the typical external battery. Works great. Charges the phone up 3 or 4 times over with no problem.
I've just ordered a wind up charger.
5 mins winding gives about 30 mins on the phone, it'll be good for geocaching, as we often run out on the difficult ones!
only £8

Innocell 3300mAh Extended Life Battery (no longer 3000mah)(pics update, Review later)

Just received the battery from mobilecityonline.com. Ordered Tuesday came on Saturday $60 shipped. Here are some pic's will do a review when I can test it. Any question's please ask.
Initial impression:
The battery itself is bigger than the China 3500mah, The back cover doesn't fit over the sedeio battery. The plastic is thinner than the china back cover but thicker than the oem samsung back cover, not able to stand it up on it's side. The case it difficult to put on, but fits very well. It's gonna suck when my phone locks up and i have to pull the battery.

Just order one came out to about $60 the don't charge tax at least in California. Still have my cheapo ebay 3500mah battery but it still doesn't last me the day. Will post review when i Get it.
Hrm....so then what about those of us that bought the 3000 mAh Innocell? I'm wondering if this battery is actually 300 mAh bigger or if they just changed the rating on the battery. I'd like to get my extra 300 mAh, especially as much as the 3000 mAh cost.

According to androidcentral.com it is a different battery.
http://androidforums.com/epic-4g-accessories/244950-review-seidio-3000mah-extended-life-battery.html
Customer79: Hi Kevin,
Customer79: I have a Samsung Epic 4G phone.
Kevin: hi
Customer79: I see that you have a 3000 mAh and a 3300 mAh battery for this phone. Is this indeed the case or is it a mis-type of some kind?
Kevin: we have updated the 3000 to 3300
Customer79: If I bought the 3000 last week, is it a 3000 or is it in reality a 3300?
Kevin: 3000mAh is 3000mAh
Kevin: the new version is 3300mAh
Customer79: I think I read something somewhere that suggested that the 3000 was originally intended to be a 3300, but was de-rated to correspond better with real-life use. Is this the case? Could I get performance approaching 3300 with my recently purchased 3000 battery?
Kevin: no that is not possible
Customer79: OK. I sure wish I knew the 3300 was coming up before I ordered the extended 3000 batteries for my 2 household phones.
So...I guess the 3300 is a 3300. I think we all have to accept that technology is constantly changing with these phones. You got to hop in when you can and expect things to constantly upgrade and change. Clearly, my battery situation is much better with this 3000 mAh battery. My daily life no longer revolves around find a place to plug in my phone. Is 300 mAh really going to change your day? Not really.
Yea it's not a huge deal to me, at least not enough to go through the process of exchanging my battery. Just wish they would have made some mention of the 3300 coming so I could have just waited. Of course they wouldn't do that, because then no one would buy their 3000's and they'd have a bunch of leftover stock.
Would love to see a test between the 3300 mah and the cheapo 3500 mah batteries. Any chance that you would feel like running a test like that???

I planning too when i get the sedio battery.
While I haven't ran a methodical test but I know my Innocell 3000 mAh definitely lasts longer (or so it seems, placebo effect?) than my generic 3000 mAh. Of course, if the Seidio is actually 3000 mAh, then that should be right since the generic 3000 mAh is just two 1200 mAh batteries wired together.

Seidio extended batteries are usually around 82% of rated capacity.
That would put the Seidio 3000mah at around 2460 mah.
That is why I would love to see a test between the two that reduces all variables to make it as fair as possible. Something like putting the phone in airplane mode with brightness and volume maxxed, setting the phone to play a movie file repeatedly until it turns off and measuring the time.

The only way to test the "battery life" is to see how many charge and discharge cycles you can get. You need a tester circuit that accelerates this process or you will be doing this for a long time. Alternatively you can do a discharge test and so long as you use the same circuit you can then make some intelligent guesstimates in comparing the batteries.
The problem with mfgs are that they don't use the same parameters in testing. Thus two identical batteries can be rated at different capacities.
The short answer: Buy a high quality battery and forget the BS.

Same here, the only downside is the thickness the battery adds to the phone. I HAVE to use my extended battery at work since I'm nowhere near a charger, listen to my music all day and paint in a dungeon so there is a lot of crap that could possibly get inside my phone when switching batteries but on the weekends I rock the regular battery.

Extended Battery Help

We need to find out if anyone has a battery that is bigger than 1500 mah. It looks like the Optimus 2x uses the same battery so I would hope someone has a 1650 or 1800 mah out there. Let me know if a source is found. It would be nice to have an external wall charger as well.

Or maybe a dock with spare battery charger on the back to at least hold a stock battery to charge
Check on Ebay every few days. I haven't seen one yet but they make it for most phones. The batteries are thicker than the standard ones and it also comes with a different rear cover to accept the thicker battery. It is usually from China and around $15 or so.

Sometimes there are extended batteries made that are the same exact size as the stock one but have a larger capacity. For example, I bought a Seidio extended 1750mAh battery for my Droid X which was the same size as the original battery but had about 250 more mAh to it...it gave me a couple more hours on one charge. Hopefully something similar is made for the G2X!
Maybe a bunch of us should just write to seidio and ask them to start on developing one for us...

That's the nice thing about the Seidio ones. They are a legit company, and they can usually squeeze an extra 150-400 mAh out of the standard size battery. They aren't too terribly expensive, either. I am thinking for now, though, I may have to give one of those ebay ones with the separate battery charger a try....I have had good luck with ebay laptopt batteries, so....it might be worth the $20 for it.
Also, I will start spamming Seidio's twitter. Lol.

Actually, they just re-label their inferior batteries with bigger mAh numbers and make a big profit for their efforts.
No company has ever made a legitimate higher capacity OEM size battery ever.

Agreed. Seidio does make some legit extended batteries, like the 2500 and 3500 mAh one's they put out for the EVO and Droid X, etc... but the ones that are the same size as the stock battery don't hold any extra juice, they take advantage of the loop hole in the rules concerning how companies can label batteries.
Batteries have a range of mAh that they hold. Say the battery in our device has a range of 1300 to 1700 mAh, most companies will use the average and label the battery at 1500 mAh. Seidio on the other hand will label theirs on the high end of the range at 1700 mAh, which is perfectly within their right to do, but is rather deceiving to the consumer.

There is no range. All the OEM batteries I've tested were within 3% of their tagged rating.
Regarding Seidio, there is no explanation as to why their "same size & higher capacity" batteries consistently deliver less power than an OEM battery.
But don't let me stop anyone from buying their snake oil.
Regarding Mugen, that first link shows a disassembled 3000mAh battery that contained 2 1200mAh cells. I call it fraud, plain and simple. They all do it, I've proved it.
i just ended up getting this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000N63AC6 . i have a body glove case and they're a pain to snap off everytime i want to replace my battery while at work. for me, this is much easier.
now if they made a good extended battery with a custom back cover like i had on my g1, i'd get it.

[Q] how you will fight against not removable battery?

well i like it this phone htc one x its pretty nice for me i want it, perhaps the only thing start bother me its battery, i had an evo 3d and i usually have extra batteries, and works well, perhaps im not sure how you will beat this?
im thinking the extra chargers that works as usb battery but not sure wich one are the best and cheap xD
for example like this:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/portable-12000mah-rechargeable-power-battery-pack-white-119917
what do you think?
I wouldn't buy anything like that from dealextreme. There are plenty of portable chargers out there such as the powermonkey:
powermonkey
or some solar versions:

Powermonkey Explorer
Monaco
Monaco Solar Charger
or if you are looking for more power for a really long time away from outlets:
New Trent - Ranges from 5000mAh to 11,000mAh
New Trents on amazon
Although it is very disappointing not to be able to just carry another fully charged battery that you can just change. I have been using an extra battery and desk charger since the early 2000's and now technology is leading towards phones without this feature and without removable SD cards. It seems like a step backwards. I managed to go on after the change from hardware keyboard to touchscreen as there was a benefit, but there just isn't enough reason to take away these features.
We all know where this whole idea of not allowing SD cards or removable batteries came from. Everyone is trying to be the iPhone. Next Google will force you to install Gtunes before you can use your phone.

Next Google will force you to install Gtunes before you can use your phone.

looks well, perhaps i will check this brand on ebay, since amazon charge me a lot for delivery to my country :S
Not SD its not big deal for me but battery? that suck and if htc will make not removable they should be at least like razr maxx in battery mah
thanks a lot, and why you dont like DX?
The stuff from dealextreme is great if your are looking for cheap stuff that you don't mind if it breaks in a month. Also you may be waiting a loooooong time for shipping. For the cheap stuff it's great, but you DO NOT want to charge your phone with some cheap electronics from Hong Kong. It will mess up your battery and then you will really have a problem with keeping a charge. Don't want to have send in your expensive One X for repair because of a fried battery. Seen way to many phones ruined by cheap chargers. Spend the money on a good one.
I went back and fixed the links, but if you need to buy from somewhere else, that's fine. Powermonkey are sold in other countries and have adapters for different plugs if you travel. Then again I guess you could find an adapter for any of them.

thanks, damn htc i was so cool just switching batteries anyways i will check on ebay thanks, i read about powermat but seems expensive.
i wil check it thanks a lot
Non-removable battery does have a very good reason, because if battery is removable, they must make the battery strong enough to be able to take some potential stress from being dropped, etc. Non-removable batteries can have thinner walls because the phone casing will protect the battery, and since it will not have to be removed very often it is possible to have the battery have more surface area on the phone to occupy.
We need cases like these. my friend gets about 2 days heavy use on his iPhone 4 with it. Unfortunately I've only seen cases with batteries for iPhones.

wow would be nice for the One X i hope we can get this
No kidding. I am so envious of him. That case also allows him to charge using a regular micro USB cable. I'm surprised at the lack of cases for most Android phones.

Undervolting
Having a charger in my coat pocket.
I really don't think it will be an issue to make it through a full day.
Have a feeling that portable chargers are going to get a lot more popular as the non-removable battery becomes more standard.
Have the New Trent 11,000 mAh model which can keep me going for a week away from a power outlet. I'm not usually far from an outlet as I have the home charger, car charger, and usb port from my computer at work, but always easy to carry around my portable charger as it isn't very big and fits in my pocket. The other ones are even smaller.
Not too fond of the idea of having to use a case that makes my thin sexy phone into a hulk for just a little more juice.
iphones dont have removable battery so we will be just like them

I hate the fact you can't remove the battery for a lot of reasons, one big one is I aways carried an extra battery because I did not buy a powerful phone to tweak it so it can't use all the power it came with.
They really need to put bigger batteries inside phones like motorola did , or make the back of phone from solar cells so it could recharge at daylight when flipped over

Alternative to PowerSkin Monstrosity

If you're anything like me, the sexy thin-ness of this phone is one of the reasons you decided on it, and to put a powerskin monstrosity on it isn't an option; especially at $50 on sale! I personally have had an Xpal 8000mAh "portable" charger for a long time, and love it, but its fairly bulky, and takes a while to recharge, so it's gotten less practical of late.
So I did a little poking around on Amazon and found this:
The PowerGen Mobile Juice Pack.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004UP491W/ref=mp_s_a_3?qid=1338131488&sr=8-3
I plan to pick up two and always have one on me, while the other one is charging, and for $44 that's $6 cheaper than the PowerSkin on sale, so is a no-brainer for me.

You know you dont always have to keep the PowerSkin on it, right? You could just put it on when you actually need the extra power?

Kind of makes the PowerSkin pointless that way, doesn't it? I mean you could spend $50-$60 on a 1500mAh back up charger that either makes your phone ugly and provides little protection while on,, or $22 for a 2900mAh back up charger that lets you keep the case of your choice on the phone, including no case at all... I can't see a good argument for the PowerSkin, sorry.

I wouldn't necessarily put mine in the PowerSkin at all times, but when I do, it'd mean not having to carry around a separate pack. Days that I know I'll be out/using my device ALL DAY that I'd want the extra power, basically.
I already have a general case to use on regular days, I'd swap it out with the PowerSkin on days I felt it was necessary to have the extra power.
*shrug* to each their own.
I agree with everything said here - the case is obnoxiously big and it is completely unnecessary for the nub coming out of the side. I also agree that if you had a time when you needed the extra juice, maybe a function where you would be hammering the camera away, you could throw the skin on. To me, $60+ is unreasonable to use once in a while. I'm probably going to get the S3 which will come stock with 2100 mAh and then I'm sure we could find a 2500+ mAh - plenty to go around and no extra thickness.
I think this Anker battery pack is a much better deal
http://www.amazon.com/Anker-5600mAh-External-Flashlight-Motorola/dp/B005K7192G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338306512&sr=8-1
5600mAh for $34 basically mean you can give the phone a few full charges and it also include a bunch of different of adapters to charge different devices.
I was actually researching after I noticed that the Zagg one was 50% off for Memorial day (6000 mah for $50), but it has AWFUL reviews, so I went digging for a different model.
The reviews on the PowerGen Mobile Juice models are overwhelmingly positive -
5200 mah (single usb port) for $33.99
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005VBNYDS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=AKBC2HTGGFZVH
8400 mah (two usb ports) for $49.99
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0073F92OK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=AKBC2HTGGFZVH
There's a bunch of options, but the 2900mAh version in the op I like because it is thin like the phone and doesn't stretch my pocket even with the phone in there with it. Those others aren't as slim/convenient, but are still better than the PowerSkin.

The Anker branded has 5600mAh also at same price and a lot of good reviews like the PowerGen.
I would like to find a case with external battery integrated just like the xpal but cheaper. The xpal is nice but it cost too much, anyone know if there is an alternative?
Xpal makes a case of a battery in it?

yea but it cost 50 us dollars and the battery has just 1500 ma
anything for us uk members?
I bought my mobile battery from thinkgeek.com its a newtrent and has 9900mah I forget how much I payed for it exactly but it has two USB ports. Each output a good 5v/12a. It's a bit heavy but 9900 mah is wellworth it and besides one step closer to being zombie apocalypse ready lol. Also I have like a million gadgets and something always needs to be charged
