[Q] No 3G on MR2 Non-rooted - Thunderbolt General

Hello all,
On June 10th, I installed the leaked MR2 update for non-rooted phones. Everything had been working perfectly for 20 days (GPS was great, not a single random restart).
Exactly 20 days later, sometime yesterday afternoon, the 3G connection went off and never came back on. I can still get WIFI and 4G connections. I had Juice Defender on my phone, and uninstalling it did not fix it.
I have tried:
- Rebooting
- Removing battery
- Removing Sim
- Turning mobile network off/on
- Turning airplane mode off/on
- Switching from CDMA Only to LTE/CDMA
- Switching WIFI on/off
- Searching for software updates in settings
The weird thing about it is that if i manually check for software updates under "settings' the 3G will come on, the upload/download arrows light up, then it goes back off.
For reference sake, here is my software info:
- Android Version: 2.2.1
- Baseband Version 1.39.00.0508w, 0.01.69.051w_3
- Kernel Version 2.6.32.21-g0606a3a, [email protected] #1, Thu Apr 14 11:59:44 CST 2001
- Build Number 1.66.605.2 CL343045 release-keys
- Software Number 1.66.605.2
- Browser Version WebKit/533.1
- PRI Version 1.41_002, 1.64_002
- PRL Version 15011
- ERI Version 5
I appreciate any thoughts or ideas. Thanks!

I never even lost my 4G while running MR2 nonrooted except while on vacation in a non 4g area.

I had this happen on my first TB. I reflashed, cleared data, changed roms, radios, removed SIM cards, did full resets, flashed back to stock, changed radio settings in the engineering menu, you name it, NOTHING worked.
I ended up flashing back to stock and getting a new TB - as far as i could tell it was a hardware failure.
My symptoms were EXACTLY the same as yours.

So I have a theory as to why this has happened to a few people including me. I too was on froyo running 1.6.3 bamf remix to me exact. Out of no where I lost all data (I'm not in a 4g area yet so i couldn't try that). I called Verizon and after about an hour a tier II guy says " force your phone to check for a software update, if that doesn't force the phone into 3g, nothing will." I tried that and it worked, but only for a sec then I lost data again. He said well its a hardware failure and sent me a new phone... In the meanwhile I continued to do a software check and after about 10 hours (checking about every hour) it finally stuck and my 3g came on and stuck.
My suggestion is go into a 3g area and try what I did. I believe the problem to be the Juice Defender app. Multiple other people have cited the exact problem and were using that app. And to be exact, its not the phone that is the issue...its your sim card. Replacing your sim should also fix the issue or at least it has foe many of the others. Hope this helps.

Hmmmmm, so randomly this afternoon after my last post, the 3G just started to work. I seriously hadn't touched my phone in a couple of hrs, and then i picked it up and 3G was on, so i have no idea what happened.
I really appreciate all of the suggestions, and will definitely try the ##778 if it happens again.

To anyone who has experienced this problem i found a fix that works, For some reason or a other during the sprint activation, some MSID numbers become corrupted..DONT ASK ME HOW..But this is directly related to the problem. I even noticed mine was even deleted.
*Call sprint and request a new 1. they will guide u though the set up..
FYI most sprint reps dont realize that the ## codes are different because all they do is read a script.. remember USE *#*#_____#*#*
This will allow your profile to update and your prl to update
Sprint does not offer much support for the nexus
THIS fixed mine and almost positive it will fix yours..If you get a Stupid rep hang up call back..
What I've done is enter *#*#4636#*#*. Change your phone information to CDMA only. Press home key otherwise it will switch back to WCDMA preferred. Try updating your PRL and profile. Go ahead and change it back to WCMDA preferred. I've had success every time I've done this. I hope this helps.
I had to move to an area with 2 bar signal (rather than just 1 bar) to get it to work.
I've got a nexus s4g and it fails every time for profile and PRL, running stock Odexed but rooted rom. Yesterday i unrooted and reOEM locked. Flashed the original oldest rom and let it do the OTA updates. Still can't update PRL or profile =((
ive had seven nexus s 4g's and they have all had this problem.
also, regardless of how you exit the info screen, it will always revert back to wcdma preferred.

Wrong. Using the above mentioned method I successfully switched to CDMA Only and was able to update the PRL and Profile. When I went back into the menu it was still on CDMA Only so I switched back to WCDMA Preferred (as per the instructions). It has made a PHENOMENAL difference in 3G speeds. (It would literally take minutes to see the Market screen or search for anything, and downloads would be around 100kbps)

I just did a return to stock and wasn't able to update my PRL or Profile either. Thanks for the tip about *#*#4636#*#*. I didn't even need to change the mode, as soon as I got to that screen, I hit the 'Ping Test' button (can't remember the exact name). As soon as I did that, the 3G Data and Signal Strength indicators turned from white to green (I'm new to the android, not sure what exactly that means), and it immediately updated and started downloading a software update.
Interesting. I have previously been able to update these but recently I have been unable to and would get some weird popping sound from my speaker. I went in, ran the ping test, set to cdma only(mine has been saying unknown), pressed home, went into settings and was able to successfully update!
I had the iissue where I could update and profile or Orlando immediately after rooting.
I had to get my msl. *#*#msl#*#*
I tried many methods but I would up I putting my phone number in for my number and my msid. Then after that it rebooted. I went immediately to update my profile and prl and it worked and had worked since then.
I tried many many different ways. I input my msid and my number and nothing worked. It only wokred for me after I put my number in the number and msid slots. Very odd.

[Q] HSPA data issue, Help!

Okay so here's what's happened.
My phone is the LG-925g from Rogers, and it's unlocked to work with Koodo. It WAS working just fine.
Sometime around my update to V20c (I don't know exactly when, so I can't say forsure it's the update) data stopped working properly on HSPA. It didn't entirely stop working, just sustained connections.
Let me explain.
On WIFI EVERYTHING works.
On 3G I can browse, check e-mails etc... but I can't download anything. Market I can browse, but not download. Youtube works in the browser, but not the youtube app. Shazam doesn't work. Facebook updates work in the browser, but not the Social+ widget. Weather updates fail.
I can browse and check e-mail and that's about it.
so data IS working, just not properly.
Here's what I've tried....
-Formatting NV partition
-Formatting Cache Partition
-Formatting internal SD Card
-Complete Phone Reset
-Took my phone to a Rogers store, hooked it up to the rogers cell network on a store-sim and it worked great
-Took my sim card to a koodo store, stuck it in a demo android phone, worked great.
- Factory Reset of phone
- (phone was not rooted at time of problem) rooted to install and use networking tools
-went into hidden menu 3845#*925#
-went into Other Hidden Menu: *#*#4636#*#*
-ran every test in hidden menu and looked for settings that may affect this
-Installed APN Remover to remove all APN's except Koodo
-Verified (with a koodo rep) every APN setting and even tried removing some or messing around with them
I'm about to downgrade and re-upgrade my phone to see if that works. Any chance that may fix it? any other possible solutions? I'll even take crazy solutions at this point because netstats pings, etc etc are not showing me anything, I just get a lot of Syn_sent connections without ACK's.
HELP! (And sorry for the wall of text)
have you tried setting up your APNs?
APN's
Yeah, I tried setting and resetting them a few times, even with a rep from the cell company.
I'm losing my mind!
Thanks anyways though!
Im using 21d. Seems to have somewhat similar problem. Getting unstable connections.
My problem:
phone kept switching from H to 3G to G and H again. Speedtest app revealed very low and inconsistent speeds..Reception bar also kept changing.
Phone was previously froyo. Im not sure if it's because of gingerbread baseband. I have some suspicions on that.
Im from Singapore

I agree. I think it's a GB thing. I'm on v21a, and I have the issue where upload arrow keep blinking, and I get the H -> 3G-> H.
EDIT:
I'm having this on v10d too

CM7 Galaxy LTE post airplane mode no data issue

So, everything works great, except when I activate airplane mode via settings or notification menu, a problem occurs AFTER airplane mode is de-activated. Only the cell network is active, neither edge nor 4g connection is available UNTIL after a reboot. WiFi CAN activate but no cell network DATA available.
I attempted to:
1. search forums and google (similar issues noticed, no solution available)
2. flash stock Rogers radio then re flash CM7, didn't solve
3. Redo APN seetings with different inputs, didn't solve
4. shutdown remove sim, startup no sim, shutdown reinsert sim, startup, didn't solve
5. now on stable (seemingly faster) UCLA3 modem didn't solve
wipe emmc etc., flash SkyIceCream ROM, and then the problem solved!, wipe to factory and wipe cache, flash back to CM7, and the problem returns!
So I'm thinking it's the kernel and/or ROM. My device doesn't FC or SOD atm it seems very stable.
I use airplane mode a lot since I do travel on airplanes quite a bit. I can reboot after airplane mode every time but it's a pain plus sometimes I don't have the time to wait for a reboot literally. Please help, I love the ROM.
Hey brotha - I had a similar problem with mine. When we went on a trip to Phoenix, it took a good 10 minutes or so for the bloody network to come up. I had a bunch of data charges too when it did finally come up... but no description except medianet data charges (sent data not received). My wife's iphone also had some large charged data for sent. I don't know what it was, but the Phoenix market has LTE (obviously nothing to do with the iPhone) - but I figured that because our home network was not the same (4g here) that was a lot of ATT internal configuration fighting going on and it took a while for their systems to parse it out. All speculation and what not, but reboots on my phone wouldn't help until if finally popped open, but I'm betting it's not a device problem, it was a network issue (based on the 60ish meg upload charges we both had our our different phones... and no, we weren't posting airplane bathroom porn to youtube...
I couldn't take it anymore so i flashed nexusmod4 and now i don't have airplane mode problems anymore. So for anyone having this problem on CM7 don't worry you can fix it by flashing another ROM.

[Q] Not registered on the network problems

I've read a lot on the internet but have not found a good answer for me. In certain locations, almost daily, I get either a "not registered on the network" message or a "sim not allowed ##3" message on my Infuse. If I switch the phone to airplane mode and then back off of airplane mode it always reconnects to the AT&T network. The problem started after I changed my ROM from Infused 1.5.3 to Zeus 6. I've flashed to Mind of Mac 1.4 but that didn't fix the problem. I've tried a new SIM card, different APN settings and several other changes, but it didn't help. If I have a good 4g connection it never has the problem. It never re-registers on the network until I do the airplane mode on and off thing or reboot the phone. My iemi number shows up weird on the phone too. What is the best way to fix this problem? Thanks.
No one has a clue?

Modem
I currently have UCLB3. I have tried a few different ones but it does the same thing with each one I've tried.
Sounds like you know what you are doing , unfortunately it sounds like a hardware issue. If going to settings > mobile networks > network operators and choosing AT&T does not fix it the only thing to suggest is return for repair or exchange. As you know, you will have to return it to stock so after you do that you may want to test it one more time. Sorry, not the answer you wanted but the best answer I have, Regards.

From recent experience - I would avoid using the fixes listed above as they will change your IMEI.
I say this as I was having a similar issue -- I had been running on the ParanoidAndroid ICS rom for a few days and my I997 started to do the same thing. Network connection was fine most of the time but it would occasionally drop out to no network. Except swapping between airplane mode didnt always fix it. If i rebooted the phone and it would pop up with "Unknown" Baseband Version, and no IMEI/IME SV until it connected again... whenever it decided to do so.
I flashed a few different modems to no avail.
Used GTG's stock restore... and it still showed no baseband or IMEI.
Searched through everything i could find and I found the 2 above posts. Being the cautious person that I am, I was skeptical to run the "fix" since I know playing with the efs folder can do.. fun things.. I backed it up with EFS Pro.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546
So after that - I did the fix from those two posts. It worked. I got a signal. HUZZAH. But I could only make a few calls before it would drop out, and I couldn't send or receive text messages at all they would just stall and error out.
So I took a look at the IMEI again and noticed that it was NOT *my* IMEI, it was presumably the imei of the person who Truckerglenn got the backup from so long ago.
Figured at this point my phone is going to have to go back to Samsung to fix since it's still dropping out, the IMEI is wrong and I can't send texts
Can't break it anymore than it's already broken right?
Go back into root browser, delete the EFS folder entirely. *poof* gone. Reboot. Use EFS Pro to restore the backup I had created (GOOD THING!) phone reboots. Instantly picks up the signal again, I get 15 text messages, 2 voicemails AND my IMEI shows what it should be now.
*HOPEFULLY* it holds onto its connection now. If not, back to stock and back to samsung it goes - now with the correct IMEI. heh
Sorry for the long story
Thanks! May have found a partial fix.
Thanks for the tips and information. I think I may have found a partial fix. It seems that picking the "WCMDA only" in the "Network Mode" options seems to solve the problem for me. If it is set on "GSM/WCCMA (auto mode)" option, it seems to cause the "SIM not allowed ##3" or the "not registered on the network" problem when I am in an area where the 4G or 3G signal is weak. I will do some more testing. It appears that if I don't have 3G or 4G available in any given location my phone won't connect to the cell towers at all even though other users can connect without any problems. Does this give anyone any other ideas? Do I possibly just need new APN settings?
Have you tried flashing a new radio? Does a complete wipe and restore to UCLB3 make any difference?
Has any of these roms/firmwares that you flashed been done so through Aroma installer? I know Aroma gives you the option to change modems, and if your download was buggered that could have caused it.
I'm just tossing ideas around here... I'm up early and looking to help.
The work around works
Yes, I have flashed the radio but that didn't help. I have discovered the "fix" is to set my phone on "WCDMA only". It seems that the phone will only work if 4G or 3G is available. I am not longer getting the original error messages. So that's a good thing. If I ever go to where 3G and/or 4G is not available I will have to try something else. Thanks for all the replies.

Installed CM 10.2.1 and now have no service

Okay so last night I installed CM 10.2.1 on my Samsung galaxy S3 (Verizon SCH-1535)
Everything's running smoothly but for some reason I don't have any service anymore
I'm using a Family Mobile SIM card and APN, still have my IMEI and MEID but in the phone status screen PRL version, MIN and my phone number show up as unknown. Also it says that my mobile network state is disconnected.
Right now I can't send texts and call anyone. However I still do get automated billing texts...
Not sure what to do right now. I still have a CWM backup of the stock ROM. I'm rather new to this custom ROM and bootloader thing so I'm worried that I'll accidentally brick my phone.
Nevermind, i fixed it!
What did you do to fix this? I've had almost the exact same experience over the past couple of days but haven't managed to recover my service.
Background: Flashed back to Alliance 23 (TW 4.3) to see if TW would solve anything and it didn't. I've flashed the ML1 modem and NE1 and still nothing. I even went to a Verizon store to replace my SIM in case the PRL got botched somehow. I can receive texts and send texts sometimes but not consistently, cannot make or receive phone calls.
On Alliance I have the CDMA/LTE/EVDO network mode selected (defaults to global). I was previously trying out CM12.1 and had issues with the modem type sticking to LTE/CDMA (auto prl), after reboots it would switch back to LTE/GSM and the network modes presented were LTE, 3G, and 2G which didn't seem right.
The last time I had a fully functioning radio was with SlimKat Stable. Was having issues sending/receiving MMS and figured it was time to upgrade so went to CM12.1. Since I've tried flashing Alliance and other versions of CM I don't think flashing back to SlimKat will do much but I guess that's next on my list..
I feel like I'm missing something simple. Anyone have ideas?

I may have managed to fix this. Remembering the IMEI issues that happened early on in this phone's life I figured it might have something to do with that.
My IMEI was correct in my phone status, however my phone number and MIN were not correct (phone was 000-000-0023 or something strange) and my MIN was 00. Something definitely broken there.
Steps:
It requires you to have an IMEI backup already. I had done the reboot nvbackup from adb ages ago and decided to give it a shot with a reboot nvrestore.
Phone rebooted but was stuck on the Samsung logo...uh oh.
Had to do a battery pull and reboot to recovery manually.
Restored Alliance 4.3 backup and voila! Full service, phone number and MIN were correct.
Restored my CM12.1 backup image I had been trying out. Right off the bat there was still the same issue of no service.
Dialed the phone info menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and changed preferred network type to CDMA only, ping test succeeded.
Went to Settings | Mobile Networks and things looked more normal which was a great sign. My Preferred network type was actually blank, so I selected LTE (recommended).
Tried a test call to #832 and success!
Rebooted to make sure everything sticks and it does.
That was not a fun experience...still not entirely sure what actually broke but I've got a usable phone again and to top it off it's on CM12.1 which is just awesome so far
