Benchmarks - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Okay, here's the deal... When I run Quadrant Standard vs AnTuTu Benchmark my scores are always higher on the latter, usually about a 10% increase. Now since the update for AnTuTu that has changed to an increase of about 30%.
Now I know that some have expressed that the scores mean nothing, I on the other hand have noticed that as my scores have risen so has the performance of my device.
So, my question is can this be explained?

what is your clock speed?

can someone post what their default minimum and maximum clock speeds are which is shown in quadrant benchmarking app? i downloaded setcpu and its gay, uninstalling does not undo the changes it made...
I have mines at 1000 over 1000 but it gets way to hot

I get 998 1st time and 961 2nd time on my SGS4g. I am surprised that the score is actually better than the SGS.

Quadrant isn't a good test or benchmark of the Samsung Galaxy line of phones.
It was designed to bench Snapdragon CPU's. Hence the reason the MyTouch4G scores in the 2000's and the SGS4G scores in the 900's.
Side by side comparisons are much better than benchmarks anyhow. Don't worry your SGS4G is just as fast as the rest of the 1Ghz phones out there.
Additionally the PowerVR SGX540 gpu in your phone is unparalleled in the mobile handset market right now.
I wasn't complaining about my score, was saying it's better than the original vibrant

When I O/C my TB,....

From 1.2GHz to 1.4, I get no increase in Quadrant scores, but my Linpack goes up accordingly. Have I hit the brick wall with my O/C? Diminishing returns at 1.4, and leave it at 1.2?
The o/c scores have been proven to be innacuratr and improperly weighted. Don't go by them.
Do you notice any real world improvement? If not, just leave it at 1.2, if so screw the numbers and put it at 1.4.
My tbolt has been stable at 1.8. My quadrant score sky rockets, as for real world applications, barely noticeable difference between 1.2. I've been happy with mine staying at 1.2

How come some phones get high quadrant scores?

Hey
I overclocked my Galaxy S and I did some tests in quadrant to see if my clock gave me lower performance.. Anyways I got 2950 as my best score @ 1.5 GHz but I see some HD2's getting 4400 in socre @ 1.5 GHz. I thougt my Galaxy S would get a better score then a HD2. Is it becouse the HD2 running a slimmer rom with less background processes or are they just lying?
I believe quadrant scores are heavily varying and dependent on the device, and for the most part, do very little to reflect "real" performance.
I don't have a straight answer, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Your scores are still magnitude's higher than my Hero, my absolute highest (with unsafe tweaks to the clock and kernel) was about roughly 500

Overclocking is just ramping up the processor in your CPU to higher frequencies for faster performance. There are limits, you can't go too high because you risk damage and overheating, and going too low can cause severe slowdowns and instability.
BUt finding a sweet spot for the minimum and maximum processor speed can result in a much faster phone when the screen is on and a way better battery life with the screen off.

Anyways,there are many many ways to cheat quadrant.Running the app from a ramdisk,patching SQlite,running a rom from SD(I think) all boost the scores.That is,however,because Quadrant relies heavily on I/O,which gives unreal scores.Remove I/O benchmarking from the test and you have a helluva accurate benchmark.Pretty good too.
But on the SGS,let me make my guess.Are you running Cognition rom?If yes,are you using interactive governor?Again,if yes,switch to performance governor and yay,4000+ points in Quadrant!

Unfortunately, it requires a custom kernel, which in turn requires a custom recovery (and in some cases, a custom ROM) to achieve.
ohhh crap!!!! thats the reason i want a forum or some dev to create interest in my device..... hey can u tell me somethin j shud do....????

Im using CM7 with Glitch kernel. And I used "smartass" when I got the score but now I get like 2470 in score now even with performance. Plugged in the charger and now I got 2888 in score so I guess the charger helps a lot in quadrant to..

Cannot agree more. It sure is fun showing around your quadrant score but a quadrant score never reflects true real world performance. Maybe, Neocore would be a better benchmark but then again non of these benchmarks would show how fast apps could load or how smooth you switch between apps.
I use an LG GT540 Optimus. I was able to reach 64.3fps on neocore and 1250 on quadrant after overclocking to some 800MHz with performance controller.
Quadrant also doesn't reflect the core memory/cpu usage. ie Sense UI eats more resources than vanilla. So, same phone running vanilla and sense will have different scores.
I believe Samsung uses TouchWiz. Perhaps, you could score better with a vanilla rom or cyanogenmod.
Last but not the least, Quadrant scores could be faked just as easy as you could fake version numbers in About Phone.

Quadrant sucks use smartbench the sgs is one of the most powerful single core phone out there an smart bench proves it

Low quadrant scores

Seem to have low quadrant scores oced to 1.5 with faux kernal and cm7 stable only getting like 2640 quadrant score wtf?

Yeah, scores tend to change. I had around 2900 when I first ran a month back. Just did it tonight 3 different times. 1st time: 2400, 2nd time: 2200, 3rd time: 2700. This is why I don't care when people flash these scores in my face. I find them pretty much useless.
If apps are running on your phone your scores are going to be lower. Kill everything before running your benchmark app to get the highest score.
Who you trying to impress with quadrant even if you get higher scores?

2640? That's not low. Quite average from what I gather. I think the tits ones you see are anomalies. If you know anything about chip manufacturing you know it's not entirely consistent. I chalk it up to that. The mid/higher 2000's seem to be pretty standard.

I openly consider the opinions of those who are for or against overclocking, I have heard both sides of the argument regarding its usefulness. Personally, I'm not fully decided. I respectfully ask we keep the thread on topic- posting your overclocks!

I have heard people getting 1.4 GHz with the Charge, although I have heard of that some can't get above 1.2 GHz stable.

I go the opposite route. Rather than overclocking, I'm undervolting. It really helps battery life and doesn't affect your performance. I'm running stock clocks with -30mV across the board using Tegrak with the interactiveX governor on EP4 at the moment. Using StabilityTest from the Market in scaling mode to test stability. Going to try to drop the voltages down a bit more soon, as I've been fully stable for almost a week on these.

I actually find Quadrant useful for verifying lagfix and verifying over or under clocks.
One thing that overclocking allowed for was smoothing out 480p Flash video in the Browser that was choppy before.
Now that you guys vented your overclocking and Quadrant hate, back to the posting your overclocks!
*EDIT* Forgot to ask, does anybody know if there is an appreciable difference in battery life when overclocking at stock voltage? Theoretically, battery life should be the same no matter the clock speeds if the voltage is constant.

Overclocking without a kernel that supports undervolting probably scales the voltage up appropriately.

If you look at the overclock app it actually runs on medium volt. ..

That is not true. Transistors have different power dissipation when they are switching versus when they are not. The faster you clock them the higher the power dissipation even when the voltage to them is the same.
I can't believe how long it took for someone point out the DBZ reference on a message board filled with nerds.
