GPS on ROMS - T-Mobile LG G2x

Any ROMs work well with GPS. I find CM7.1rc very buggy and GPS works terrible.

I have just the opposite experience with GPS and CM7. Works great.
What problem exactly are you having?

If you're having trouble with your gps, I'd suggest (if you're comfortable doing so) editing your gps.conf. It's located in /system/etc. At the very least, change the ntp servers in gps.conf. If you're not sure what to replace them with (because it's based on region) I'd suggest starting here: http://www.pool.ntp.org/en/
Another option, there is a thread made by AngelDeath over in the hd2 android/general forums. It has a bunch of premade gps.conf files divided up into regions. You can always adb push them (or root explorer) to your system/etc folder. (He has cwm zip files, but they won't work on our version of cwm, the hd2 used the older install scripts).
Here's the link to angeldeath's thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953630 . If you go this route, you need to unzip the recovery file, go into the system/etc folder in it, and copy the gps.conf to your /system/etc (reasons explained above.)
Good luck.

One question about doing this since its region based.
What if I travel to a different region will I have to grab the file and move it for the other region? Or can you like say ...update all regions at once or so

It'll still work, it'll just be slower on the initial lock.

the answer for me
was to install the bionix rom! Awesome GPS and rock-solid.

For those that have gps issues constantly...
use root exploer or file expert
navigate to
system/vendor/etc
make the folder rw
delete out both the gps xml files
remount as read only
reboot phone
open navigaton
hit nagivate you dont have to set a destiation
let gps lock
once locked exit out

OMG THIS SH#T WORKS!!!!
I did as instructed. Navigation took like 20 secs to lock on, which was TOO DAMN GOOD (considering that before I had to wait like 10min)... BUT then i went to maps and 1 sec fix :O but I kept going on. GPS AIDS also gets a fix in 1 SEC!! so does foursqueare, so does waze. ZOMG thanks!!!!!!!! well.. lets hope this lasts forever!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU (a non-gay amount)
update 2: ok, went outside again to try it out one more time. It took 5-10 secs to lock on, not 1sec like before haha but I guess this is as good as it gets. thanks a lot again. I'l try again tomorrow and post back results.
ya it always work hence why i remove it on all the roms i build * except forgot to on octane...
Would AngryGps.zip make it work better or faster? I just wanted to get your thoughts on this. Thanks
There is no /system/vendor on my SGS4G running straight 2.2.1 (KD1) via Kies.

File expert doesn't have an option under settings for root explorer. Es file manager does, but it doesn't work right. I'll just wait for your octane update. You'll throw this in I hope.

Hey rev, this fix worked on day one but on day three gps is taking a long time to get a fix.
Maybe it has to be with the fact that I have been changing up the ntp server from day one (before and after your fix)..

[MOD] GB Wifi improvement! [CWM Flashable Added!]

Hey guys! I've been mucking around in a few ROMs lately, and I've found quite a substantial wifi improvement in this-
**If you are running a ROM based on official kj6 you won't see much improvement if at all, as its based on
it. Its mostly for the people who like their pre final roms too much to switch.**
**Users on 2.3.4 and below are reporting boot loop issues after install, I am looking into a resolution. Roms based on 2.3.5 and up should be fine with this! **
Attached will be two zipped files, the .zip is a CWM package, the .7z is a more raw package you can manually push, or insert into a ROM.
CWM: Download the .zip to your SD, Flash like any other package.
Without flashing:
Replace the wifi folder in System/etc with the one in the .7z below. (You could use Root Explorer or Super manager; Thanks nazcalito)

in case anyone wants detailed instructions, here's how i did it.
downloaded androzip to extract .7z file.
used ES explorer. root and system access (mount as rw)
rename existing /system/etc/wifi folder to /system/etc/wifi.bk
copy the extracted wifi folder to /system/etc
long press and chose property
change permission to rwx r-x r-x (to match old folder)
unmount system access (in settings menu of ES explorer)
reboot
wifi scanner used to show -95db at far edge of upstairs corner of house. now get -75. similarly for front and back yard
Great work finding this.

Its that simple! I've seen incredible improvements using this with the Octane and BSGS4g ROMs. I typically get ~1-2 bars in my room at home, I've got 4 now. I normally can't even reach the front door at work without dropping wifi, today I was outside about 30 feet from the doors with 2 bars. Just examples. Anyone care to test this out on other ROMs??
Because it is almost a mandatory statement, though EXTREMELY unlikely...
I am not responsible for any damage you may do to your device.
Does this improve kj6? Or just pre final roms that had crap wifi.

ES file explorer has a root feature in it's settings too
I actually see a big difference with the official kj6 rom. With that said, would I be able to extract the files from that into the other roms? What rom is the wifi based off of that you have here?
If i were to replace this new wifi folder after the changed with my old wifi folder back up will the changes be reversed and do i have to restart after doing this?
I applied your wifi folder (delete and copy) to ICBINB KI3. Wifi now turns on, searches for about 30 seconds, finds nothing, then turns wifi off.
Any ideas?
-before someone trolls, yes there is wifi present.

Also which method did you do? The flashing or pushing it with an explorer? You may need to reboot after pushing it with an app (Haven't personally tested it that way)

Marcusant, you know, you never have to unzip a rom. You can drag and drop files from other roms, edit them by double clicking and saving and then confirming the save thru the extractor and delete them with the delete button. Also, you need to add all the scripts from cm7 like bmlovermtd and updater.sh and all the other stuff besides /system. And finally, you should probably say to use a TW kernel on a TW ROM and use the CM7 one on any AOSP/MIUI/CM7 ROM.

Certain apps like Maps, Street, Youtube, Voice, etc. are generally stored in System. Through regular updates, they also install a copy to Data, without removing the System copy. I prefer to move them so they only exist in one spot. This way they're also remove-able by the end user.

Thank you. This is one of the cardinal sins of ROM making is to put a bunch of crap in /data (especially when the data is custom app settings, and or the only launcher). This can leads to all kinds of fail if the user has to do a factory wipe/reset.
I experienced this with SRF 1.2. I was business trip and I got a case of unfixable /data corruption (an all too common occurrence with SRF). So I did factory reset and when my phone rebooted THERE WAS NO LAUNCHER, because the only launcher was in /data/app/.
I guess I could understand putting things like youtube in data, but this still means you will be forced to download those if you do a factory reset.
The best solution is the have a script in /init.d that runs a `first run` setup script at boot and copies stuff into data from a compressed archive in /system
CM7 has this built in, though I don't know if they utilize it.

Hm, I see that most of your problems stemmed from the disabled journaling of SRF 1.2. A 'feature' I'd been vehemently opposed to since the beginning, and that I countered with my very first rom many many months ago.
However, I will have to respectfully decline on the opposition to /data usage. I cater first and foremost to users looking for a clean start. For me, a rom that didn't have so much as a file explorer to access my sdcard upon first boot was bothersome. I feel the phone should be fully featured the moment it turns on, not once you download and sign into everything 30 minutes or more later! From there, I'd have to download mybackup and restore apps that should've been there and ready to use the minute my phone booted. I also recommend a manual task killer, and to that end, include one configured to the safest and most effective way I've determined.
That said, Epic storage is at a premium (or at least it was before MTD conversion), and having google apps stored on /system as well as /data is a redundancy I prefer to avoid. I also include a 'full' version for those users that reallllly want the most suggested apps installed. At the same time, while my downloaders appear to enjoy the functionalities such as flash, polaris office, swipepad, adaway, and voodoo on first boot, I prefer to take the opposite route of Sprint/Samsung and ensure that every one of these 'features' is also user-removable.
However, I will concede that a launcher should potentially be installed to /system in the event of a factory reset. I myself prefer to 3-finger into CWM and re-flash rather than ever factory reset. Especially since (in the case of SRF 1.2) it was near impossible to make it to that option through all of the FC's.
Here's something to think about:
If every rom had the same stripped down apps, the same standard featured mods (volume, hotspot, etc.), and obviously the same access to themes, then most of the available roms would be identical.

That's mostly the case with TW-based ROMS. Aside from that basket of mods and included/excluded apps, the diffs come down to the init.d scripts (RAM & tweak scripts), build.prop, some tweaked files in bin & lib, plus theme files -- depending what the Chef did. Like you said, the secret is in the frosting .

How did you convert it? If you did it this way then it is flashable on MTD. You only need to Odin back to BML if you are going to install a BML ROM or BML backup.

[TUTORIAL] Recover WIFI password CWM ZIP

This is a simple tutorial how to create a CWM flashable ZIP for readding your WIFI
password (useful if it's really long).
WARNING: ONLY USE GB WPA_SUP. WITH OTHER GB ROMS, OR ICS WPA_SUP. WITH OTHER ICS ROMS, NOT ICS WITH GB (thanks crybert)
First download the attached file and extract it to whereever you want.
Then, take your phone and copy the wpa_supplicant.conf located in /data/misc/wifi/ to the SD-Card to get it into your Computer.
- Open the attached homeNetPrepared.zip with WinRAR or 7zip etc..
- The attached zip file includes a folder named data, in it there is misc and there is wifi . Insert your wpa_supplicant.conf here.
- Now close it and put it on your phone.
If you flash it, you'll be able to connect to your network without retyping your (long) password after a factory reset or etc. .
i hope this is useful

yes, but after flashing a new rom/wiping data it's good to have that zip to flash right after the rom, so you don't need to type in the password again
When you will use an wpa_supplicant.conf which was used in ICS for example and then flash the file on a gingerbread rom, It can break you wifi.
This is because of different ctrl_interface names.
At least this happend to me once.

JB 4.1.2 GPS positioning solved

JB Leak 1, 2, 3 (official JB) and roms which based on the JB Leaks GPS positioning problem solved with gps_driver change!
The JB leak gps.conf i edited so many times, over and over and it was disastrous. After booting, it worked well, but after 1-2 hours the positioning / fixing was very slowly with or without wifi / data connection.
I thought that the problem is not with the gps.conf.
Yesterday I was looking for the official ICS and CM 10.1 roms - which have good and fast gps localisation - and after i found in the system\bin a gps_driver i compared this files - and changed on the JB Leak 2's gps_driver to ME ICS HKTWN's gps driver.
The result is excellent.
First test in a car - cc.30 km/h - when I turned on the GPS and it positioned approximately 30-35 seconds without wifi and data connection.
Secondly, in the first position of approx. 10 km tried - i waiting at a red light, after starting 7-8 seconds it has satellite connection, and after 16 seconds there was 18 meters of accuracy as indicated. A half hour later, 60 hours km/h started the GPS and 20 seconds after 3 meter accuracy showed my position. 1 hour later the next test - 10 seconds and 11 meter accuracy.
With data connections in 12 seconds and 8 meters accuracy. I woke up in the morning turn on gps and wifi and after 15 seconds I have 11 meter accuracy.
Download the attached file. It works only rooted phone
After downloading, extract and copies of internal storage on your phone or on the SD card and then file manager wich has root privileges (for example: rootexplorer) perform the following:
Copy the gps_driver to system\bin, whit this you overwriting the original file and set the permissions:
rwxr-xr-x
Use some of these gps.conf - original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953630
and copy to system\etc, override the original gps.conf - or just leave the original gps.conf (you choose) - , and set permissions:
rw-r--r--
Reboot the phone and use it.

Try this: In the Phone - Settings menu there is Assisted Dialing - turn off. Basically it's on and it's set to China (+86)

There are a few more GPS fix method on china website which you may change ur gps driver.
And Wang also provided his gps_driver which can instantly lock our position less then a second!

gps_driver change not equal gps.conf change. If you read again the first post you see: this gps_driver was in the CM10.1 and ME HKTWN ICS.
I tried this gps driver file and works well but i tried place the gps config in system but seems nothing

hi, I have a rooted Atrix2. I dont know how to set permission. I have bootstarp installed. So, can I just flash the zip file you have provided in your link to get this working?
I have now installed root explorer. Copied your gps_driver file, after unzipping, to the SD card. Using Root explorer I tried to set permission for user to read write and execute, ( all three). But once I press ok and then if I recheck it doesnt show permission which I had set before.
Can you explain step by step to set permissions and the rest of the procedure please?
Thanks

JB Leak 1, 2, and roms which based on the JB Leaks GPS positioning problem solved with gps_driver change!
Copy the gps_driver to system\bin, you must copy it from overwriting the original file and set the permissions:

Guess I have a language problem sir,
when you say " you must copy it from overwriting the original file and set the permissions"
Do you mean to say, I must replace the original file with this?
and then set it for read write and execute ?
on system\etc, you already have a gps.conf, what should I do with that?
I am sorry, if I have been really silly and stupid

Yes, you are right. I missed a comma: "you must copy it from, overwriting" - you must overwrite the original gps_driver .
It is not necessary to change the gps.conf, but with the new .conf files the gps have faster positioning.

I overwrote the gps driver files and copied the new gps.conf files and set permissions as directed, but GPS stopped working completely after I did this. Now the GPS Status app does not show any satellite at all, just can't figure out where I went wrong. Can you post the link to the correct driver files and a working gps.conf file. I live in India.
