GPS - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

For those that have gps issues constantly...
use root exploer or file expert
navigate to
system/vendor/etc
make the folder rw
delete out both the gps xml files
remount as read only
reboot phone
open navigaton
hit nagivate you dont have to set a destiation
let gps lock
once locked exit out
now goto google maps give it 5 seconds or so it will now lock enjoy

im so gonna try this right nao!
imma make some backups just in case
btw.. what gps files? I can only find gps.conf..
This is its contents, is it good?

doh, i was at system/etc
sorry, got too excited. I've found them... trying this out.
OMG THIS SH#T WORKS!!!!
I did as instructed. Navigation took like 20 secs to lock on, which was TOO DAMN GOOD (considering that before I had to wait like 10min)... BUT then i went to maps and 1 sec fix :O but I kept going on. GPS AIDS also gets a fix in 1 SEC!! so does foursqueare, so does waze. ZOMG thanks!!!!!!!! well.. lets hope this lasts forever!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU (a non-gay amount)
update 2: ok, went outside again to try it out one more time. It took 5-10 secs to lock on, not 1sec like before haha but I guess this is as good as it gets. thanks a lot again. I'l try again tomorrow and post back results.

ya it always work hence why i remove it on all the roms i build * except forgot to on octane...

Would AngryGps.zip make it work better or faster? I just wanted to get your thoughts on this. Thanks

There is no /system/vendor on my SGS4G running straight 2.2.1 (KD1) via Kies.

File expert doesn't have an option under settings for root explorer. Es file manager does, but it doesn't work right. I'll just wait for your octane update. You'll throw this in I hope.

Hey rev, this fix worked on day one but on day three gps is taking a long time to get a fix.
Maybe it has to be with the fact that I have been changing up the ntp server from day one (before and after your fix)..

Thanks for the fix. Went from an accuracy of 4000m to 20m. Also used the angry gps fix that Somairotevoli posted. Was worried that they might step on each others toes but they seem to work well together. Really nice find.

I'm desperate... I can't get my GPS working! I tried all the ROMS found here, tried GPS Aids, every possible app on the market, this method. Still my GPS after an entire afternoon on the open window can't get a fix with this damn GPS... 7 hours!!!
When I open google maps it shows I'm in oulu, in finland!!!!
Also the compass is broken: it points to the south!
Never had issues with other phones, but this... this is getting me crazy!
Any suggestion other than take the phone and shoot it?

Being so new at this - only a month with a rooted hero - I didn't think to change my folder permissions on the phone level - so I went into Root Explorer and changed it to R/W - and it gets further than I had before - but no file transfer takes place
This is what I'm typing into cmd
adb push c:\bootanimation.zip \system\media
then I get: 950kb/s - (0 byes in ###s)
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
when I do that I get 'no such file or directory' which folder should I have the .zip in to make this easiest ? I just have it in c: right now

[MOD][THEME] Basic Black (5.24.11)

Hey all.
I was messing around today and decided to post this. If not for the current lack of development, I probably wouldn't even post this.
Just push twframework-res.apk with adb, root explorer or root manager. be sure you overwrite the existing .apk.
The screenshot posted below was taken on the fly. you'll notice I'm using TEAM AERODKNG's Notification bar... Frankly, their theme is radness, but I thought maybe someone would want a little change!
word up, folks. happy MoDding.

@Ricky download file to your computer hook your phone up to the computer mount phone to computer (USB mass storage) right click file go down to send to and send it to the proper mass storage for your phone I have vista so that's how it works for me that should put the file on the root of your SD card open root explorer first go into system/framework go down to the twres apk long press it and select copy you will see paste at the bottom of your screen hit the back button twice go down to SD and put the copy in any sub folder you may want I use downloads then go down to the new file on your SD card from robbitt long press it hit move go back to system/framework in the upper right hand corner you will see a r/w press that then hit paste it will say it already exists do u want overwrite click yes back out then reboot should work with no problem.I think what u did was move the orig twres file instead of copying it hope this helps you.And thanks to robbitt love this mod sometimes its just the little things

[MOD] GB Wifi improvement! [CWM Flashable Added!]

Hey guys! I've been mucking around in a few ROMs lately, and I've found quite a substantial wifi improvement in this-
**If you are running a ROM based on official kj6 you won't see much improvement if at all, as its based on
it. Its mostly for the people who like their pre final roms too much to switch.**
**Users on 2.3.4 and below are reporting boot loop issues after install, I am looking into a resolution. Roms based on 2.3.5 and up should be fine with this! **
Attached will be two zipped files, the .zip is a CWM package, the .7z is a more raw package you can manually push, or insert into a ROM.
CWM: Download the .zip to your SD, Flash like any other package.
Without flashing:
Replace the wifi folder in System/etc with the one in the .7z below. (You could use Root Explorer or Super manager; Thanks nazcalito)
atb1183 said:
in case anyone wants detailed instructions, here's how i did it.
downloaded androzip to extract .7z file.
used ES explorer. root and system access (mount as rw)
rename existing /system/etc/wifi folder to /system/etc/wifi.bk
copy the extracted wifi folder to /system/etc
long press and chose property
change permission to rwx r-x r-x (to match old folder)
unmount system access (in settings menu of ES explorer)
reboot
wifi scanner used to show -95db at far edge of upstairs corner of house. now get -75. similarly for front and back yard
Great work finding this.

Its that simple! I've seen incredible improvements using this with the Octane and BSGS4g ROMs. I typically get ~1-2 bars in my room at home, I've got 4 now. I normally can't even reach the front door at work without dropping wifi, today I was outside about 30 feet from the doors with 2 bars. Just examples. Anyone care to test this out on other ROMs??
Because it is almost a mandatory statement, though EXTREMELY unlikely...
I am not responsible for any damage you may do to your device.
Does this improve kj6? Or just pre final roms that had crap wifi.

I was going to say the same, thanks! ;P
ES file explorer has a root feature in it's settings too
I actually see a big difference with the official kj6 rom. With that said, would I be able to extract the files from that into the other roms? What rom is the wifi based off of that you have here?
If i were to replace this new wifi folder after the changed with my old wifi folder back up will the changes be reversed and do i have to restart after doing this?
I applied your wifi folder (delete and copy) to ICBINB KI3. Wifi now turns on, searches for about 30 seconds, finds nothing, then turns wifi off.
Any ideas?
-before someone trolls, yes there is wifi present.

I was having that issue when I was just copying the contents and pasting it into the file, instead of just dragging and dropping it =X No clue what the crap caused it for me.
Also which method did you do? The flashing or pushing it with an explorer? You may need to reboot after pushing it with an app (Haven't personally tested it that way)

simply unzip the file, use root explorer to copy the lib file and the app, set app permissions correctly, install, then reboot!

that is why you have to set permissions correctly.
Did you move it to system/app wwith root explorer?
Make sure the top row of permissions all have check marks.(leave the others that are already checked off checked, I sometimes jusst check off all 9 permissions boxes if unsure)
Reboot your phone, and voila widgets will be working
Holy ****. I swear I tried everything. Even the Guy who ported it couldn't find a way to make it work. Thanks.

No problem man!
It's funny everyone is hating on it in the CM9 thread. Personally I find it very smooth and much different from the old touchwiz.
I have my icons themed with a CM9 theme too and I like how it keeps the theming.
I have an awesome red ics theme.
I too have tried everything under the sun even begging cursing kicking and even tried praying and I still can't get it to work.. I tried installing the zip in cwm and it didn't install tried unzipping it and dropped the apk in system app folder aannk didn't work after unzipping tried installing the apk like you would any other it showed up as an option in the launchers but when I tried to run it of course it just force closed so I tried moving the library file still force close tried fixing permissions wiping cache and dalvick cache still force close tried settings apps all touchwiz home clear data still force close. If anyone knows something I hadn't tried let me know cause until then I'm stuck like chuck... guess I'll stick with apex launcher....

Worked for everyone else so I'll give simple steps.
Use root explorer.
Copy the apk to system/app
Set permissions correctly on it (check all 9 boxes if unsure) but don't install yet
Copy the lib to system/lib
Reboot phone
Then use root explorer and go to system/app
Click on the launcher apk and choose install.
There you go

That's because you don't flash in cwm. Follow the exact instructions in post above and it will work but you have to follow them step by step no shortcuts you must do it exactly like it says.

I did flash the .zip file in CMW, and then rebooted the phone. But nothing changed ! I've done this many times, but no luck. I've just wiped out everything and done a factory reset, then got my phone ugraded to ICS, installed CMW, superuser, and tried to do this again. But it won't work. I don't know why.

These are the steps you have to do if you want this work. Even though it is a zip file you do not flash it in cwm. Its not gonna work that way. You have to extract the files so you can get the apk file and others needed to do the steps above. You will also need a file explorer that allows you to get to the system files. I used es file explorer its free on the market. Follow the steps above and this will work..

Yea I know. Even after you told them not to. That is why so many phones end up bricked and a very expensive paper weight...

Thanks for your answers ! :d
But even though I use Es File Explorer as you recommended, I cannot set permission to the apk file. When I click install, it says Application not installed. I DONT KNOW HOW TO SET PERMISSION on it using Es File.
Do I really need Root Explorer to do this ?

And apply.
