Okay, I'm a Noob! I recently flashed Cyanogen 7 to my captivate. Bad idea since it is still in development. So I decided to try MIUI. I downloaded it and installed through ROM Manager. Everything went well, pulled Titanium back in and restored all of my apps and data. Then did a Clockwork Mod Flash. Problems started when I re-booted the phone. After the AT&T screen I see a Cyanogen 7 logo, then it switches to MIUI. After that nothing works as I get pop ups stating some Android processes are unable to function. I rebooted into recovery and re-installed Cyanogen, which I'm really not fond of. Can't figure out what I did wrong here. Maybe I should download MIUI onto my SD card and install from recovery instead?

First.. I want to say hello and that i've been reading around these forums for quite a while since I got my Droid about a year ago. I haven't posted anything till now.. but that's only because everyone else usually get's the answers typed faster than me. lol
On to the problem... I think I screwed up. I JUST bought this thing today. I got a little too excited about getting this tablet rooted and might have jumped the gun a little. I used the apk that has been around to root. No problems there. I got ROM Manager loaded... and I ended up flashing the newest recovery from there before realizing that everyone else says to use something else.
So... at this point, i'm unable to reboot into recovery at all. It starts up, acts like it's about to, and then just reboots again into the OS instead. Is there a way to fix this and get it on the correct recovery image or have I totally screwed myself over? Maybe through ADB? I can only tolerate this horrid TnT OS for so long. Took me 20 minutes to get it to update without a FC... Browser, weather, calendar, and a bunch of other stuff FC on me when I tried starting.. Fortunately, those issues are less frequent with the update, but still not working keeping.
I need some "stock(CyanogenMod)" Froyo goodness.. lol I can't have my year and a half old phone outclass this tablet for too long. If anyone can offer any help on this, I would greatly appreciate it.
The good news is you are still booting into the OS, so I doubt you've screwed anything up too bad. Most likely Clockwork Mod just never flashed so you are still running with the gimpy stock recovery and it's puking on the update.zip file you have on your internal sd card for some reason.
First suggestion is get a copy of Clockwork Mod 0.8 and try installing it. The instructions here are geared toward installing from an external from an external MicroSD card: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245 I am not certain why they say that's the only way to do it, since I never did it that way.
I just downloaded this: http://www.mediafire.com/?dvleg4oatkfxm7w and stuck the update.zip and recovery folder into my /sdcard directory, then turned my tablet off, then held down Vol+ and turned it back on. Clockwork Mod should install itself and boots into Clockwork Mod, and that was that.
I never used ROM Manager at all on my G Tablet, so I can't speak to doing anything that way, but I would stick with the tried and true methods at least until you have Clockwork Mod running.
If that fails and you really can't get any recovery working, maybe something did get botched and you might need to use nvflash to fix it, but I doubt it.
Once you get Clockwork Mod running properly, just copy over the update.zip for TNT Lite or Vegan ROM, flash, and wipe data, then you should be good to go.
Worked perfectly and entirely from the tablet! I installed CM6.1 and I'm a bit upset at the lack way it looks, but then, its packed for smaller screens, so I understand. Thank you for the quick reply. I'm off to try TnT Lite now.
I bought the Gtablet yesterday and immediatley took it home to Install a Custom Rom.. I installed clockwork recovery, and then installed the cyanogen 6.1 beta 4..everything installed correctly and it rebooted, however it did not have the marketplace or flash support, and would not autorotate with the device smoothly, so I thought I might try a different ROM but when trying to access my device VIA usb it closes quickly and will not allow access .. also I am having issues with the SD card, I can mount USB in Clockwork and copied over Vegan 5.1...it said it installed succesfully but when it launches it still says cyanogen, but says vegan in the "about phone" section this did give me a few more icons including marketplace..but it launches and then has a white screen.then closes automatically...I am afraid I have really messed something up here...any help would be greatly appreciated ...I would like to move forward with a Custom ROM and right now I dont care which one as long as it works...
issues
1. no USB connectivity
2. Marketplace and Flash issues
3. mixed ROMS?!??!?

You may have to start from scratch.
Via recovery, wipe data andcache, then flash a more stable rom like vega.
Then flash gapps and adobe flash.
.
I also just realized I posted this in Devel and not general..if a mod can move it I would appreciate it...my apologies
thanks for the quick reply...I was reading and found out i installed the vegan supplement instead of the full download...i know have vegan 5.1 ...and its starting to function a TON better...the USB is working..im going to apply the update..I think it has market and flash...I will try that..sorry for cluttering...really happy with the way this tablet is turning out...extremley happy im not bricked!!!
I need some serious help ...
I rooted with Z4root, and it worked great, and EASY!!!!!
I downloaded and bought the RoM Manager from the Market because after weeks of reading, reading, and reading some more, I just couldn't bring myself to install a RoM myself. The only 2 RoM's that popped up for me was PlayfulGod & Cyanamogen 7.
I first chose Cyan... and it was great except the Market was gone, and a few other things didn't work all of a sudden. Then when I tried to change with RoM Manager it kept saying I needed to get the newer version. Long story short, I was finally able to switch over to PlayfulGod via RoM Manager. It's been a long few days, I don't remember what it was that made me want to go back to Cyan, but I figured I could just download a new Market and all would be fine. So, RoM Manager again ... download Cyan, install, backup. While it was backing up I went to sleep.
When I woke up this morning, my phone was in a looping bootmode! I get the movie thing that Cyan boots up with, then the android guy - then the movie again, android guy, movie android, over and over. I can't even get to the Volume Down, End, Power spot. When I try, I get the Huawei screen and that's all it'll do.
I was too scared to "flash" a RoM myself, and now I am completely lost. Please help me fix my phone ...

With any cyanogen mod you Have to flash google apps separate. That will solve for market problems. Since you have to flash GAPPS you might as well re download whichever cm7 check the md5 checksum and reflash that. You can find videos on youtube that give you a step by step of the flashing and backup process. Just search around the web.
Can somebody help me I love cyanogen mod and I'm trying to update my ascend to cm7.2 but it failed everytime I try any ideas please

Hi folks and especially Chainfire if he is tracking nu-bees,
Nu-bee here. Just installed Resurrection Remix Pro ICS firmware following instructions at Galaxy2Root.com. They had me install 3 files with the Remix package, GoogleApps and GoogleAppsFix. All went well. Then the instructions told me to install 10_CWM.zip so that ClockWorkMod would work. But CWM had been overwritten, so I couldn´t install something from my internal sdcard. I thought I would be clever and install one of Chainfire´s custom CF-root packages. I selected one close to the kernel number I have installed (LPJ). I flashed it over with Odin.
No joy. The phone booted, showed the opening logo and then lay there with a black screen. But CWM recovery still was active, so I wiped the system and reinstalled the files this time including 10_CWM.zip (4 files). This time I have ICS but CWM is gone again. I´d like to back up the ROM.
I´d like suggestions as to how to get CWM installed. I would be most grateful! I read the entire 450 page set of posts on Chainfire´s CF-root upgrades (whew). I´d use one of those if I was confident that I wouldn´t go back to a black screen again.....
still trying
Well, I haven´t gotten much of a response with this. With this 10 post limit for noobies, I can´t get to the developers forum where I would find the folks who grapple with these kinds of issues.
Anyway, I flashed the latest of Chainfires kernels, the LP7 version, and ended up with a black screen again. So I went into restore (and had CWM restore at least) and restored my ROM, etc. But of course, I lost CWM in the process. And had to reconfigure my phone all over again. I had used My Backup Pro and it didn´t save the connections to the Google Market, so I had to reinstall my apps all over again. Is Titanium better in this regard? My Backup Pro claims to make better backups for rooted phones, but this was pretty feeble.
So that will be my question for this forum - should I change to Titanium? Will it get all my apps, settings, and data back into my preferred configuration?
Have a great day......
I am in same boat as you are. I buy i just installed rom with Rom manager and i have Gapps fixer and remix one left and CWM ofcourse. So my problem is i don't have Ex-sd as they suggest to Install "Cwm.zip from external sd card from recovery". How to do so ?
Please help
Thanks in advance
EDIT: Never mind I sort it out Yesterday. I installed from Rom manager & Flash recovery from it and then boot up into recovery from App and then Flash Touch Recovery.
Hey Everybody
I'm new to the whole rooting process, which I did fine on Saturday the 4th of October 2014. Today (October 8th 2014) I tried to install Cyanogen using the installer, it said it worked, but when my phone rebooted it was in the original version of touchwhiz that came with my Galaxy S3 SGH-I747 Rogers version. I wanted to get my files back, so I went into CWM and tried to recover, which didn't work. I tried again and again and it finally loaded my apps, but I had no service and I was spammed with "failure to load .gapps.google" or something like that. I went into CWM and wiped cache, tried again, same issue. I then wiped everything, went back into it and it still was NOT working. What do I do? I have no service at all! I've tried pulling the SIM and putting it back, but no success. Please HELP!
EDIT: I flashed stock ROM using ODIN, which worked. I would still like to know why CWM didn't work though, and if it is still possible to try to get it to work

Anybody?
I'm a beginner myself, and i do not know much about installing custom roms on samsung phones, but maybe you did not flash a compatible custom kernel to support the custom rom? it seems like you did not flash gapps either, but that should not stop you from getting network service. my last guess would be that you need to also install a baseband perhaps. all this information should be there in the galaxy s3 section of the forums.

Hey there, first off, thank you for replying.
I didn't manually use odin or other flashing software to flash the ROM. Unlike the rooting method (which went smoothly) I used the cyanogen mod installer. The installer itself said that cyanogen was installed successfully, but it was not. After it said this, my screen (on the phone) turned off, and I was brought to a fresh install of touchwhiz. I've actually fixed the networking issue by flashing touchwhiz stock, but that still doesn't explain why my CWM backup wasn't working.
I see...I haven't used the cyanogen mod installer myself so cannot say...
What I suggest is that, if you're up for trying again, to manually flash a rom - either Cyanogenmod or any other. There seem to be a lot of good roms available for your phone, and whichever rom you choose will come with instructions for how to install. The usual method will involve the following steps as far as I know:
- Root
- Unlock Bootloader
- Flash Custom Kernel with recovery
- Flash ROM
- Flash GAPPS
These steps are not difficult at all as long as you follow the instructions for your specific phone. I have a Sony Xperia SL and thats how I installed a custom rom on it many times. Sorry I could not help much not knowing Samsung procedures but good luck!

OK,
Download stock ROM for your device from Samsung-updates.com according to device model and region.
Then flash it with Odin.
Good luck
