i finally broke down and rooted my Tbolt. I installed Rom manager and am trying to install a new rom. I have tried cyanogenmod 7.1.1 and also Liquid smooth 3.2 . the process seemed to go fine, but each time it got stuck at the splash screen,not the white HTC one, but the "intro" screen for the rom i am installing, i let it run for several minutes, finally removed battery and restored my backup.
anything i am doing wrong?
here is some more info on the phone,
Downgraded to 2.3.4 , rooted with revolutionary root, running the most current free version of Rom manager free from market
any help would be appreciated
First thought
Have you wiped the data of the phone before you tried to install the ROM? I am now expert here but I had a similar problem and when I searched forums for the answer that came up quite a bit. I might start there.
Also the ROMs have very specific install instructions and I would follow them closely to avoid any problems.
I searched and read so much before I rooted and installed my first ROM, it does get easier.

Update your CWM version in ROM manager.
It should be the top choice when you open ROM Manager - update Clockwork Recovery.
Make sure you have ample space on a FAT32 formatted SD card, as well a the minimum radio(s) required for CM.
Prior to flash, in recovery, make sure you wipe data/factory reset and clear cache - also go into advanced and format system.
Post back your results and we'll go from there.

First of all, please excuse my English.
I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (GT-P3110) (with Android 4.1.2) for my son and thought, before I give it to him I'll set everything up and do a nandroid backup, so if he plays around with it and it doesn't work anymore, I'll just restore the backup and everything is fine in a few minutes. So far, so good.
First I rooted the tab as described in "[GT-P31xx] CF-Auto-Root", and that worked fine.
Then I wanted to "install" clockworkmod as described in "[RECOVERY][P31XX] Official ClockworkMod Recovery (Normal + Touch)". The link for the "unofficial version" for odin (P3110 - 6.0.1.0) didn't work anymore, so I installed the RomManager and downloaded the clockworkmod via RomManager. Everything seemed to be ok, I went to recovery mode and yes, there was clockworkmod version 6.0.2.7. I was happy, changed nothing, just rebooted, and something seemed strange. First I didn't know, what it was, but then I knew it: there was no sound while the tab booted and the Samsung logo showed up. And from that moment on, there was no sound at all. No sound through speakers, no sound through earphones.
I then downloaded an original firmware from sammobile.com, I decided to try the new UK version with Android 4.2.2. I put this version on the tab (after a factory wipe), and ODIN said it was successful. And the tab shows in setting Android-Version 4.2.2. But there is still no sound at all.
I did this, so my son doesn't have to worry that he might break the tab when he is playing around, because I can easily restore everything. And now I break this damned thing.
So what did I do wrong? And much more important, can I fix it? What else can I do? I'm grateful for every help. Thanks in advance.

There's 2 more things I'd like to mention:
1. There's a video file from Samsung in the folder samsung\video called "Moments_of_Everyday_Life.mp4". Before the clockworkmod install this file played without problem. When I play it now, then the first 50% of the file are played fast forward and then suddenly the speed normalizes. When I play exactly this file on my pc, then it is played absolute normally from the beginning to the end (and of course with sound). So the file is not broken, but the video player in Android seems to have a problem, too.
2. After the clockworkmod install there was a file called "recovery-clockwork-6.0.2.7-p3110.img" in the clockworkmod folder (5,67 MB). Is this the file which RomManager used to "install" clockworkmod to my tab, or can I use it to reverse the changes which RomManager made? And if so, how can I do this?
use twrp recovery
That is the file RomManger used to install CWM. I really can't see how CWM could affect your sound.

I have never heard on any device of CWM killing the sound. Especially since you reinstalled the factory ROM with odin. That overwrote CWM and reinstalled the stock recovery. I don't believe it has anything to do with it. Have you tried with headphones to see if any sound is present? Could be a bad headphone jack.
TWRP is just another custom recovery like CWM. Some think it is inferior. Some of us don't. There are some added features in TWRP and I believe it is supposed to be quicker for backups. But if there is something wrong with your phone and you mention CWM a noob will chime in with install TWRP. Again it is a proven and now popular custom recovery but it has nothing to do with your issue.

The problem is, the installation did not make my phone better. All applications started to
crash (force close) especially Facebook, Whatsapp and messaging.
The crash occured in regular basis everytime i used some functions in the apps. The warning message says: " ...... has stopped". I can not even send sms anymore since it was always crashed seconds after writing the message.
I have done all of these steps suggested in many forums but they did not work:
1. Wipe partition and cache in recovery mode
2. Delete data and cache of the apps
3. Fix permissions in apps to fix their UIDs (i used fix permission app downloaded from google play store)
My questions are:
1. What is the best installer app to install ROM from computer?
2. What is the best ROM for Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite SM-T111?
3. When installing the ROM, Does it install the new kernel as well?

If you're installing a stock ROM use ODIN always if its a Samsung device, if it's a custom ROM use a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP.
When installing a custom ROM it will install a new kernel most of the time (Very rare when a ROM doesn't contain a kernel and it's always custom ROMS). A stock ROM will always contain a new kernel.
Finally there is no such thing as a "best" ROM, everyone has a personal preference but to get you started I would recommend trying out CM11, Paranoid Android or PAC-ROM as these have a nice stock feel whilst containing useful tweaks.
To restore your phone to stock just download the stock firmware from SAM Mobile and flash using ODIN and select the PDA file in the PDA button area and then flash

Thank you for your reply but can i just replace my current ROM with correct custom ROM that will not make my phone crashed? I have installed the stock firmware but it did not make my phone any better.
I have also installed dr ketan custom ROM but still the phone functions not working properly. All apps crashed after only a few seconds opened and sub menu can not be accessed.
I wish someone can help me fix this because i have only one phone i use for work.

If you have the correct custom recovery installed and the correct custom ROM on an SD card sure you can replace the current one
using kingo withot issues
no offence but using kingo from last 20 days, typing fm same 111 tab, but no isssues, not installed cwm,twrp(actally thry r giving only bootloops) hense stock recovrry 4 now, so apps who depends upon cwm.... cant run

I got sick of apps not being able to write to my SD card so I eventually got the guts to attempt rooting (which worked) and then I even convinced myself to try and install TWRP because I heard I can type commands in there to get my device still rooted after encrypting since superSU does not work after encryption (not tried it yet).
I updated to a new version of TWRP 2.8 I think? Any way, what kind of safety net do I have now? I am in the process of doing a fresh backup (everything ticked) with this new version of TWRP and I will trash the old one once this is done. I had zero intentions of flashing custom OS' on my Galaxy S4 mini (I9195 LTE) for fear of bricking my first ever brand new android phone.
Once this backup is created (and duplicated on every damn hard drive I have for backup purposes...) what kind of protection is this? Could I experiment with Cyanogen Mod and have no fear of it failing to load, have problems with it once installed, something go wrong and phone won't boot up? Would I be able to load my backup into TWRP and magically the phone would be in the state it is in today, rooted and everything?
If there are any things I should know I would appreciate being made aware of them before I dare proceed with any (what I assume would be potentially dangerous things) flashing custom roms etc because I want to always ensure I can get my phone to exactly the state it is now, with all my google apps still installed and everything. With everything ticked on my backup, is there anything that wouldn't be able to be restored, as in apps/data or anything?
Sorry for sounding like a noob, but as far as android and flashing is concerned, I am a noob.

The backup covers /system (Android OS with settings) /data (all user apps with settings) /EFS (Latest TWRP should backup this, too - MOST IMPORTANT as it stores your IMEI and baseband code) /boot (kernel) + caches (not that important)
In any case your phone has a "DOWNLOAD" mode integrated in the bootloader that will allow you to restore all partitions except "EFS" by flashing the stock firmware via ODIN. So as long as you have a EFS backup and nandroid backup and you don't screw up the phones bootloader (You could do this by flashing a firmware for another (incompatible) Samsung model via ODIN) you're on the safe side. You stock rom backup or a custom rom backup can easily be restored via TWRP. Even if TWRP brakes, you can flash it again via ODIN as long as your bootloader is fine.

Ok, so Odin is the only thing that could screw my phone up, given that I have a backup? What about if I attempt to install an incompatible rom via TWRP? Is that just as dangerous? Also if I were to some how screw up the bootloader, how would I fix that? In what circumstance might the bootloader get screwed up? From putting a custom mod on? Or is the bootloader getting screwed something specifically I would have to foolishly mess with?

Yes, in case flash TWRP via ODIN, restore the backup and you should be fine.
Bootloader repair is about 40$ on ebay.
. Before flashing any new (different) rom,perform a NANDROID BACKUP" + manually internal SD Crad backup and then a FULL WIPE (/system /data /cache /dalvik cache /internal SD (Virgin like)
- If you just install a newer version of the same rom e.g. 03/01/2015 -> 03/14/2015 you only need to wipe /cache /dalvik cache (Not so virgin like)
- You can restore all apps/settings from NANDROID backups with "Titanium Backup" on your new OS
- I never heard of flashing a custom rom via recovery messed up the bootloader on Samsung phones, (In rare cases the EFS but you got the backup)
- Use only THIS GApps and make sure you pick the right version (For Android 4.4.x / 5.0.x / 5.1.x) -> Smallest (Pico bundle) will totally do it, you can install any other needed apps (also google's apps) from the pklaystore. Legit and safe.

Oh I will read everything before trying anything serious like this. I felt as if I was smashing my phone into the ground when I rooted it lol, so dangerous :S, even though I was following a guide. But now that I have all the tickboxes ticked and backed up and I have also copied that backup to 2 different hard drives... I should be safe with that.
So for my additional questions.
Is it possible but unlikely/impossible etc that a custom OS rom install through TWRP would break TWRP to the point of being non-functional to perform restores? (if so I know I could follow the guide again to install TWRP again)
Just to clarify, I should wipe everything except EFS right? When I do a completely new OS rom, perform the install and it should work or it will break. Regardless if it is broken and non functional OR it worked and I don't like it for some reason, I do the same thing again, boot to TWRP, format everything except EFS and install my backup and then the next time my phone is ready for use it will be as if nothing was ever done to it. Does that sound about right? If so, I might have an experiment with Cyanogen.

Does that also cover incorrect roms for a different model of the handset or completely different phones? Does that mean 11 and 12 won't work on my S4 mini or that it would be a mistake to install it on my phone? Or is there a method I can tell which one would be the best one to get for my phone (newest best)?
Lastly, as for odin, since I have TWRP and a backup of my phone as it is now, is there any reason to use odin for anything other than maybe reinstalling TWRP? If so, what else would require me to use odin that TWRP couldn't do?

I don't like going into things blind, I'm a computer techie and like to know what I am doing and why I am doing it. This phone customization business is entirely new to me beyond changing settings and themes lol.

--> Every rom has an updater-script that (normally) checks the compatiblity before TWRP installs it

--> Stable means NO BUGS, Nightlies are updated nearly every day with the latest commits as they are in development status. May or may not contain bugs. Check out the specific rom thread on xda. Stability of the rom / bugs are discussed there by the users every day. So you can check out which version will work.

I am having trouble finding any specific information about the S4 mini LTE and CM12. I don't know if I should try the last version of CM11 instead? Not sure to try a CM12 or CM11 at the moment. I am sat here ready to perform the wipe but I just can't make my mind up which to try :|
Which reminds me, if I use the latest CM11, will there be any further security updates and things? Or are updates only on the nightlies? I would hope they will update CM11, I'd hate to think the only way you get updates is on the bleeding unstable edge :S ?

Which reminds me, if I use the latest CM11, will there be any further security updates and things? Or are updates only on the nightlies? I would hope they will update CM11, I'd hate to think the only way you get updates is on the bleeding unstable edge :S ?

Possible security issues can be fixed later by modules. By the way, stock firmware is also updated just a few times and stays at this state. If you want as less trouble as possible a CM11 variant will be more sensefull for your purpose. Feel free to get some more informations HERE

I am on the latest CM11 snapshot Amazing! Although I am confused by some of the options. Is there any documentation on the OS? I see for Network modes things like "2G | 3G", or "2G | 2G + 3G" and "2G | 3G | 2G + 3G" . I pretty much can assume I know that 2G | 3G means 2 or 3G but when it comes to ones with +'s that is just confusing. 2G and 3G at the same time? No idea lol.
Unfortunately the compass sensor does not work. I may have to either risk trying a CM12 or go to CM10 :/ What would you recommend?

2G = GSM Data
3G = UMTS / HDPA / WCDMA Data
Do you often need the compass sensor?
SlimKAT is a fast, lightweight rom and should be working.

Not always but when I am using offline navigation software, it is very handy to see realtime if I am pointed in the right direction instead of having to wait for enough distance to be detected to determine what way I am pointing. I don't like limitations. Period. That is the root of why I am messing with... well, root and roms. I could not use software to write to my SD card because of some security "enhancement" which just crippled the functionality of having an android phone. First I rooted and used SDFIX or what ever it is, now I am testing roms to see if I can find a good one. I have the latest (this year) stable AICP installing and gaps currently. I will give this one a whirl and see what I think. I was disappointed that I could not find a nice "Hey.. this is why you should choose our rom!" page. Nothing. Just a download link and ability to get the source code.
I want to read about all the amazing reasons and features why AICP (or any rom for that matter) is a great choice. But I found no such page.

If you can't find any custom rom that fits your needs, you can also choose a modified (debloated) stock firmware if you need 100% functionality.

I should have read before I answered Seems not to exist for your phone. I don't know the reason.

Help is needed..
I flashed TWRP on the phone since it was not long ago updated to version 10.3 (China).
It flashed well (without errors).
The reboot was successful. No data was lost.
In the morning I decided to check the email, turned on the WIFI, and it went off after 2-3 seconds (everything was OK in the evening, it worked like usually). I thought that restarting the phone would fix the flaw, but alas, I was stuck in BOOTLOOP. Starts with the Mi. LOGO, then goes out, then shows again and goes into Recovery. Recovery runs. All data can be accessed. Restarting is possible only into RECOVERY and FASTBOOT.
What could be the snag here and how to solve it?
P.S. Have tried 'dirty flashing' 10.3 and 10.2 versions from TWRP, changing the kernel (androplus 7-9), reflashing Magisk (recommended by some users on a russian forum), recovering the boot.img (since it it the only recovery I have got).. All that to no avail.
Bootloader was always unlocked since I bought it and rooted. It was MIUI v10.0 then.

Back up, wipe, flash, restore
Ok. That was the one thing I tried to avoid, since my backup is 27G (nandroid) and internal storage is 133G..
Will try and feedback.
Hi all,
Got it back again, of course with all data and apps gone. I have done nandroid backups (since there is no other way of backing things up from TWRP, except copying everything) from recovery before starting the upper described process. I figure they are of no use to me now or are they?
Please advise
P.S. restoring from nandroids brought me back to square 1..

Something not right with your data so start over
Restarted, redone. Recovered only Data. Looks ok but works a little laggy..
Upd.: needed to set up the screen lock after had done that and a restart, all works like it was, except with a new OS version
Install TWRP from xiaomi.eu, the official one from here seems to be a lot more buggy.

I took it from twrp themselves, not bothering to search any forums. It's not like digging for gold or the like
Upd.:
I read that the official TWRP doesn't support some mounts migrating from EU to global or CN-->EU V Global. It was discovered that it has some bugs with mounting paths. People recommend the LR Team TWRP over the official because of that, besides it has more options under Advanced tab e.g.
Personally I prefer the one that does the job for the moment and is the latest, so it was an easy choice for me ? especially installing a fresh OS update.
