Full ROM Installation Instructions From Stock:
I'm currently trying to get Infused 1.5 on my Infuse.
1) First get root and install modded 3e recovery.
-done
2) Install ROM Manager from the Market and launch it.
-done
3) Select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and choose "Galaxy S i9000".
-done (I clicked it and nothing happened)
here it is becoming very confusing.
do i donwnload ROM first from the ROM Manager download section (if yes where does it store it)
4) If you've booted into CWM recovery since installing it, skip to step 5. If not, select "Reboot into Recovery". When 3e recovery comes up, select reinstall packages by pressing the power button. You will have to select it twice and then CWM recovery will come up. Select "reboot system now".
- this is too much
5) In ROM Manager, go to "Download ROM", select my section (gtg465x), select the latest release, and hit the download button.
The way i understand it is i download it first and then reboot into 'recovery mode' and from there i locate the ROM and choose flash.
6) When you get to the "Installation Type" prompt, select "Full".
7) Select your addons and follow the on screen prompts.
8) When you get to the "ROM Pre-Installation" prompt, select "Wipe Data and Cache" if you're coming from another ROM (or stock) or want a clean installation. You can uncheck "Wipe Dalvik" as it's included in "Wipe Data and Cache".
9) Press OK and hold your breath. When 3e recovery comes up, just select reinstall packages.
And another thing is how do i check whether i successfully installed 3e. I used a different file explorer, NOT the root explorer so i am a little worried, however, it let me mount as R/W and i managed to rename recovery into recovery.orig in system/bin/ as suggested. They both are in that folder now, the new recovery and the original one.
Please share your thoughts.
After you flashed clockwork mod, select "reboot into recovery" in rom manager. If it brings you to the blue(writing) recovery select "reinstall packages" you my have to do that a couple of times. After that it will bring you into green recovery(clockwork recovery). Then select reboot, after that go into rom manager download the rom you want, select full install, addons, wipe, and then it will restart the phone and start the install process. Since it has a Voodoo kernel it will take up to 15-20 minutes to boot up for the first time. Oh and after you see it saying installing rom, select reboot system then it will bring you to the samsung screen for a while(converting to ext4 voodoo).

it's not nearly as difficult or scary as you may think.. If you follow the instructions step by step, you'll have no trouble.

Doesnt matter... You havent done anything distructive yet
I prefer to have everything dowloaded and ready before starting, incase my internet connection goes down.

There is a much simpler solution to this.. From stock, simply odin flash the voodoo community kernel and let it do it's thing on bootup. Voila, your rooted, lagfixed, and have red cwm... Stick a ROM on your sd card and flash away.
You can get into red cwm from turning off the phone, holding down both volume keys, press the power button until you see the samsung logo, and continue to hold the volume keys until you see red text
One note, at this point, never use rom manager, unless you want a brick. Green cwm doesn't know how to handle the ext4 partition. Only flash from red cwm.

Got PM'd a few times in CM7 Nightly Forum asking for the exact steps I took to get CM7 installed and running well. Learned a bit from trial and error reading the following forum threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973683 (thanks jz0money)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=985463 (thanks kali)
These are the steps I took to get a solid CM7 install - if I made any glaring mistakes or redundant steps, please let me know.
First off, if you haven't already, root your Inspire with attn1's hack kit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
This looks like a very complicated procedure, but just follow the steps, and you'll be fine. If you have problems, or need help, follow the IRC link in the thread to get some live help. Belac got me out of a jam there during my issues (I was a bonehead and missed a .sh in one of the commands). I am aware of bubby's Easy Root method, but I haven't tried it.
Download the version of CyanogenMod you want from here: http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=ace get RC2 or the latest nightly (I choose this option).
Download Google Apps here: http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/...120-signed.zip (I realize this is a link to an older version of gapps - the market will update them to latest version anyway).
Don't extract the .zips - just leave them the way they are.
Put both files on the sdcard in your Inspire where you can find them. I personally keep them in sdcard/@ROMs/Cyanogen (your @ROMs folder will be at the top of the list in CWM - saves excessive Volume Down presses when flashing ROMs)
Open Rom Manager on your phone, and select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" to get the latest version of CWM on your phone (3.0.0.6 at the time I'm writing this).
Now, Select "Reboot into Recovery." Your Phone will reboot into ClockworkMod.
First, you're going to backup your current ROM. Volume Down to "backup and restore" and push power. Select "backup" and let the scripts run. This takes 5-10 minutes, so make yourself a drink or something. You'll receive confirmation that the backup is complete.
Volume down until "wipe data/factory reset" is selected, push power, then select "Yes". This process takes a couple minutes. Next, select "Advanced" then Wipe Dalvik Cache" then "Yes". Then, "++Go Back++"
Now its time to install CyanogenMod. "install zip from sdcard" then "choose zip from sdcard", then browse to the location where you put the .zip file. Select the .zip, select "Yes" and then Cyanogen will install. After the scripts finish, "++Go Back++" and "reboot system now"
Enjoy watching the awesome boot image of the skateboarding robot for a bit, until Cyanogen loads. Once you are at the home screen, push the power button and do a normal reboot. Once you are back at the home screen, hit menu, select "Wireless and Networks" and setup your wireless network. Cyanogen needs a reboot after the initial install for wireless to connect.
Now it's time to install Google Apps. Push Power, Select "Restart" then "Recovery" then OK. One of the many benefits of CyanogenMod (and other custom ROMs) is the ability to get into recovery by pushing the power button .
Back in CWM. "install zip from sdcard" then "choose zip from sdcard" and select the gapps .zip from wherever you put it. "++Go Back++" and "reboot system now".
The Google Apps installer should start up - if not, open Market. Select the Google Apps you want, and sign in. If you had installed other apps via the Market, most of them should be downloading on your phone now. If you want to check status, open the Market, hit menu, then select "My Apps."
From here, you should be all set to enjoy the awesomeness that is CyanogenMod.
Thanks again to attn1, Belac, jz0money, and kali

This is awesome! Thanks for the great tutorial Misterjunky, makes me feel a lot more at ease about flashing =)
has gtg gotten past the signature verification now? if yes then that's awesome! if not wouldn't you still need to push a modified recovery?
also gb users. follow this to a t. if you don't have the rom on the internal sd card(last i checked cwm red didnt read the external sd, could be wrong though) before the kernel is installed the phone will not be bootable and it will be difficult to move a file to the sd card. if you don't know adb you might have to use odin to restore a gb kernel.
A job done well!

Great tutorial with Great detail!
Just (1) small suggestion:
Your Step #6 reads:
#6: Boot to the blue text recovery menu of your phone
by pressing the up/down & power keys at the same time
then after 10-15 seconds letting go.
The way to know whether or not you held the buttons down long enough, rather then counting, you can let go once "SAMSUNG" in white on black screen blinks. It seems that all the samsung android phones do this "blink" when you are manually putting the device in Samsung Recovery (blue letters)...
*edit*
also, there is NO "wipe data/factory reset" in the "advanced" menu in cmw...
I get a 'E: Signarture verfictation failed Installation aborted.' when trying to apply the update.zip
that's because (as i already pointed out) the op is missing the part where you push a modded 3e recovery with rageagainstthecage (froyo only) or the part where you root and push 3e recovery with the sig check removed (also froyo only because rooting gb means flashing a kernel in odin in which case you already bypased this whole tutorial.) sorry op but this is useless.

Try this, I am sure it will work. Follow instructions step by step.
Making this modification will allow you to flash un-signed .zip files due to signature verification being turned off. (3e requires root)
* Download and extract the .zip http://www.mediafire.com/?srhipjqvy7mpdde
* Use a terminal emulator or ADB Shell and mount system as read/write.
* For backup purposes, use adb or root explorer to rename the current recovery file in /system/bin to recovery.orig
* Use a file manager (Root Explorer) and copy the new recovery inside the zipfile you just downloaded to /system/bin
* Reboot and your 3e (Froyo based rom or stock) recovery will no longer require signature checking.
Now boot into the recovery menu (should be blue) and select "Reinstall Packages" you may need to reinstall packages twice before you see the red recovery menu.
Good luck, this should help
GOT IT!!
Question - I had to remount to read/write.
Will it always mount to that now? Do I need to change it back?

It will revert to READ/ONLY as soon as you exit the file manager so each
time you open root manager or file manager and want to rename, delete,
or change permissioons you will need to make it read/write.

I am new to the process of rooting and installing. But I was able to root and install jellybean on my galaxy SL i9003. Now I have an issue. I am unable to enter recovery mode to install gapps. Please help!
How can I enable the "install zip from sdcard" option?
Hello and Thanks in advance. I have a problem and believe me, I havent found a solution here in 2 days and seems like people do it easily but not in my phone... As I know I should:
1. Root -> done
2. Get Gapps to the SDCard -> done
3. go to recovery mode and "install zip from sdcard" -> I dont have this option
* Installing Gapps app by app gives parsing errors, so I want to install the whole .zip (as I see people do).
My setup:
Huawei Y511 + android 4.2.2
I bought a Huawei Y511 in China, so there is no GAPPS (and I cant find a non-Chinese firmware for my phone), then I rooted and used this page tips to download the GAPPS (android 4.2) to the SDCARD. Every post says "go to recovery mode and install the zip". Nobody explains this step, but I installed QuickBoot, which takes me to the recovery mode, but there is no "install zip from sdcard".
I only see "install using ADB", but that seems difficult, I preffer the "install zip from sdcard" option.
(The +Volume button while resetting takes me to a test mode, where I can test stuff, but no recovery options.)
How can I enable the "install zip from sdcard" option? I am missing a step?
i just updated my GT-P6210 to ICS and want to install CWM & ROOT the device so i have now the Android factory System (3e) recovery so i found this Thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379532 saying
Boot into recovery mode.
If the recovery version banner is "CWM-based Recovery v5.x.x.x", then you already have a version of CWM installed and should skip ahead to the proper section. If the banner is "Android system recovery (3e)", then you have the factory recovery and should continue with...
Installing from factory (3e) recovery:
Use the volume up/down buttons to move the highlight up and down, and the power button to select the highlighted option.
1. Select "apply update from external storage"
2. Select the file you placed on your storage card (starts with "p6210_CWMR".)
3. Sit back and watch it run. Read the information that is being sent to the screen. If there's an error, it'll display some message. If it works, it'll display a message starting with the word "Done!"
4. Select "reboot system now."
You now have a CWM-based recovery installed, and your tablet is rooted.
Please skip ahead to "Finishing SuperUser installation"
so i went through the steps and got E:signature verification failed for both files

I am using the P6200 but i was having a similar issue yesterday.
How i solved it was doing a re-stock to ICS and installing the CWM-SuperSU-v0.94.zip file in the stock recovery, meaning it might be better to root before you install CWM, Also the App SuperSU app from the market, once this is done.. proceed to install CWM..
This was how i managed to get it going. This worked on the P6200

i just updated my GT-P6210 to ICS and want to install CWM & ROOT the device so i have now the Android factory System (3e) recovery so i found this Thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379532 saying
Please skip ahead to "Finishing SuperUser installation"
so i went through the steps and got E:signature verification failed for both files
p6210_CWMR_20111210.zip
p6210_CWMR_20120107.zip
any idea ???

There's an easier way.
First, obtain root by the method in this thread, which can be done using stock recovery. I did this on my GT-P6210 (wi-fi only, not from T-Mobile, so don't worry about that).
Second, get the newer and better CWM Recovery from this thread, where aorth recommends using Heimdall to flash, but I (and a lot of others) had trouble getting Heimdall to work, so I ended up buying Mobile Odin from the Play store and using it to flash. It worked perfectly. Now I have rooted ICS with CWM Recovery.
@Bad2hold: I feel your comments are uncalled for. There's so much info on here that it's not always easy to tell what's old, what's new, and what applies to your exact situation. Why not be helpful instead?
Yeah, general is better than development section, so here ya go:
Easiest way is to do exactly what you have described above, but using temporary cwm instead of 3e. (Links in the quote)
(Actually the easiest and fastest is the heimdall way but it needs some reading and drivers)
ROOT AFTER ICS UPDATE
Flash with heimdall. Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508703
Code: heimdall flash --recovery recovery.img
Use aorth's img version from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29077817
And rename to recovery or type full file name instead of recovery.img
Than flash root+supersu from recovery. flashable zips here:
http://goo.im/superuser and that root.zip what u already have
Or use this method here with temporary cwm touch
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28689474
Confirmed working but only temporary cwm with that way.

- Download these 2 files ( CWM.zip and root.zip ) and put in your SDCARD:
- Reboot to recovery: (Hold Volume Up+Power till it reboot to recovery)
- Choose apply update from external storage.
- Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
- Once the cwm recovery appear: Touch the screen to choose and navigate the options
* This cwm recovery is only temporary cwm recovery.
Once you had install the cwm recovery, navigate and;
- Choose install zip from sdcard.
- Choose zip from sdcard.
- Choose root.zip ;and Yes - Install root.zip.
- Once done, choose reboot system now.
* Your device is rooted without permanent cwm recovery: If you don't need cwm recovery. You can stop at here.
You will find superuser app in your drawer

If u need permanent cwm, use aorths, linke on top, just flash with mobile odin available for free here on xda) by renaming his file to recovery.img
Or search a flashable zip and also flash it via temp. Cwm

No overclocking possible allthough rooted
Hi!
I got an old Xoom and I'm pleased with it. I bit on the slow side. So I thought I would overclock it a bit. I unlocked the boot and rooted it. I flashed the recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img and everything went ok. I installed a cpu overclocking app and granted access to root.
There is no option to get over the 1mhz. only under. So why cant it be overclocked even though it was rooted? What is missing?
regards
ATA
What's the model of your Xoom? MZ601-MZ604 ?
It is a MZ600.

Download this:
TWRP RECOVERY: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kqxehhw8ibbtrih/R.A.H._TWRPv2.6.3.zip?dl=0
and TWRP Bigpart: http://d-h.st/nmP
ROM KITKAT 4.4.4: http://www.duckbox.info/android/omni-4.4.2/latest.php/stingray (for 4G/LTE)
or this
http://www.duckbox.info/android/omni-4.4.2/latest.php/stingray_cdma (for 3G)
Google app: http://duckbox.info/android/pa_gapps-modular-mini-4.4.2-20131215-signed.zip
and Superuser: http://download.chainfire.eu/372/SuperSU/
Put this 5 zip folders on your SDcard.
Start your tab in your actual recovery and install R.A.H TWRPv2.6.3
Reboot and after wait 3 seconds when you see the red logo MOTO then push volume up and after volume down for enter in your new recovery TWRP.
1. Install TWRP BigPart but don't reboot.
2. Go into wipe menu and wipe. go into advanced wipe and tick everything (system, data etc....)except sdcard.
3. Go to reboot menu and reboot into recovery. Disregard the "No OS" warning and don't install SuperSU when asked.
4. When you come back into recovery, it will think your data is encrypted but it's not. Go into wipe menu and "format data". Type "yes" when prompted. When done, go back into wipe menu. Select "Advanced Wipe". Check "system" and "cache" and wipe them.
5. Hit Home then go to reboot menu and reboot recovery. Once again, disregard "No OS" warning and don't install SuperSU when asked
6. When you come back into recovery, go into mount menu. You should see "cache" and "data" checked. "System" will be unchecked. Check it to confirm it mounts, then uncheck it. Congratulations! You are now repartitioned!
7. Go into install. Recovery should show your microsd storage by default. If not, using the navigation panel, navigate to root then go into "sdcard". Install the rom OMNI 4.4.4 don't reboot, return to menu install, install the Pa-Gapp modular and finaly the Super SU.
Reboot the tab.
When you are in this rom go to menu "configuration" last menu "about the tab" and touch 10 times the number of version to be a supper devloper.
The menu up is "performance" you can now put maximum frequence to 1.400 or 1.700
I have put it back to stock and locked it, But I'll try the OmniRom. Just to be certain. The recovery.img inside R.A.H._TWRPv2.6.3.zip is the one that I flash with fastboot instead of the tiamat from cwm that I tried earlier, right?
BTW, when I rooted it I followed this guide
djsmobiles.com/2013/01/how-to-root-your-motorola-xoom.html
Is that the correct method when using the R.A.H._TWRPv2.6.3?
