Hello Guy
I have being working this last 5 months in a game inspired heavily in the Advanced Wars series. I wanted to create a turn based strategy game as rich or even more than AW, with more types of terrain and units. As i really dont like spending on apps I will make this game free to play. As of now, the state in the game is still in development but I am expecting it finish it by the end of the summer.
For this game I had a series of goals:
-Fun (obviously)
-Scalable, support for small maps or huge big maps
-Customizable
-Multiplayer
-Intuitive control
By the state the game is now all of this goals seem really close. So I would like to hear also what the community has to say, what would they like in a turn-based strategy game like this.
Update:
Gameplay style:
As I mentioned before this game is inspired by Advance Wars, but I want to state clearly that this is not an AW clone. I want to make it my own game with my own touch for what I think will make it a game optimized for phones and tablets. Right now I have most of the ideas of how the game will work and how the gameplay style will be, but I also want to know what you fellow xda'ers think.
-The moving style is similar, to AW where you can move the unit to the desired tile and you can either choose your path or let the game decide the fastest path. The purpose of this is for more strategy reasons, the fastest way is not always the best.
-The units can perform an action(attacking, building, repairing, etc...) and move independently. This way you can also attack and then move.
-This buildings are independent from the terrain. I am planning on using cities as a source of income but units will be build using barrack that will be created by engineers.
-Engineer are one of the most important units, as they will create buildings for producing units, towers for defending, and com centers for support.
- I will still have naval and air units, and their behavior will be pretty much similar to the ones of AW.
With this changes I am planning on making the game more fast and strategic. So I want to hear what you guys have to say and if you think I should add something or remove something.
I will be posting more information soon.

I got an asus transformer and it scales perfectly for tablets.
Sounds cool, how about some screen shots?
swyped from a galaxy far far away
Never actually heard of Advance Wars, looked it up, now im quite excited.
Would love to see this game. Do post the screens soon!
please please no open feint. I hate this thing in ways unimaginable.
The logic of the game is almost done but I am still lacking some cool graphics. I will throw some advanced wars sprites and I will make some screenshots.
Ok one more update
The game itself is not near completion and I would rather not show any screenshot or videos as it doesnt have any feature that will set it apart from any other TBS. I will keep working on the game and probably by next week I can have something that is worth showing. Thank you all for your comments, I really appreciated.
Sounds like its going to be awesome, can't wait!

One of the ideas I had was to make the game modular so that the instead of using and artwork set, the people in the comunity could create "texture pack" to change the look and feel of the game. But for now I need some sprites at least for making the first public demos of the game, intead of use the Advanced Wars sprites. If you know how to do graphics design I would be really pleased to have your coopertion. If you are intersted PM me back and we can figure something out.
Thank you for the interest.
Just an update,
I have being really busy moving to a new apartment so I havent got time to work too much on the game and the screenshots this last week. I am almost done with unpacking so soon I will bring more info.
Sounds good. I will test when its available. PM me when you need testers...

I haven't really posted here before (just rather used xda for learning/issues mostly) so im sorry if I'm posting in the wrong forum for requesting apps. I've done some reading and it seems a dreamcast emulator is still a ways off, but I'm not really worried about dreamcast as much as I am the game ikaruga. I only played this game a few times at a friends house but I fell in love with it. I think this game could run well on newer phones with good processors. I have a droid x and would be forever grateful to whoever could bring this game to the droid and I would totally pay for this if it were released. Just a suggestion..
I would pay for this as well! Definitely the best vertical shooter in my mind.

I agree. Not only was this game beautifully laid out and full of action, it was also a puzzle at the same time. You had to shoot the hell outta things as well as change the light/dark modes to avoid masses of bullets/missles/debri/etc...It was very hard yet challenging and you had to pretty much remember the patterns of each level in order to get further. Like you said, the best vertical shooter i've ever played in my opinion and I only played it a few times.
Ikaruga was fun. Although it wouldn't exactly be possible to do a direct port.. Especially as it's a commercial game where we don't have access to the source and DC emulation isnt great on computers. rRootage (concept based on Ikaruga, nowhere near as good) is open source I believe and was ported to the PSP a while back. Kenta Cho's games are awesome

Ya, I've read nothing but troubles with dreamcast emulation. Even though new phones could handle it, I know that the process is very difficult (even though I know very little about programming/development). Even a game like you mentioned thats based off Ikaruga would suffice. I want a vertical shooter thats not just shootem up but actually has a puzzle-like atmosphere where you have to you use your problem-solving skills as well as be very quick and strategic with your enemies. I was just enchanted by a game that was so difficult when you first started but got easier as you remembered where to switch light/dark as well as handle an onslaught of enemies (who were also more weak/resistant to each of the modes which added for even more strategy.). Almost impossible at first, but with promise to move further if you had good skills; unlike some games that are basically impossible to beat without cheats. You'd think I played this game a lot seeing how much I'm talking about it but I only was able to make it through the first 2 levels or so b/c it was so difficult and I only got to play it a few times at a friends.
Back to the subject though, someone pretty pleeease develop a game similar to this.
Quick question,
Does anyone know of any good Flight Simulation apps for the Android?
Thanks!

How is it?
I'm not normally one to play/use flight sims, but it's a high quality one in my opinion, good graphics, smooth control on my desire, and fairly easy to use, but with a lot of options. check out the site if you wanted to know more about it, just google "xplane". That's the only one I know of on android too
X-Plane is the best one. You can choose your plane, your map your Weather... you control everythings in the plane... but it cost 10$...
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X is a nice arcade flight shooter, if it's of any interest to you.
X plane is good on graphics. But doesn't have many locales. Also, you can't practice instrument approaches. Only buy it if you want to play for fun.
There are some really good iPad apps for flight simulation. Android is still far behind in this realm. Hopefully there are more apps developing.
+1 With X-Plane, a great achievement on the Platform. Am still hoping for some Retro conversions, Birds of prey for example.

X-Plane is quite a good simulator here too, I mainly play it on my Nook Color tablet though.
Curious why you say you can't do instrument only approaches? there is an instrument view where you can set the different beacon settings and you can see your glide scope etc... At least I think so. I am not a pilot, and I pretty much suck at landings so I haven't tried it. I believe I saw it in their online usage guide too.
It'd be cool if it could cache Google Maps or something and fly over.. I know the desktop version has much more detailed data in this regard and a mobile app just won't be able to, but it'd fun flying over your own house.
Great information. I plan on trying out the different sims next week, Ill let you know what I think of them.
Cheers!
@khaytsus
I am a pilot, so for me just the 6 locales are not enough. But its a great start in developing such an app which makes use of the device's gyro. Worth the buy if you want the cockpit experience.
No way! Im a flight instructor at Embry Riddle had to get the CFI, couldn't stand ifr multi or commercial. Lol.

hey guys,
just installed a game called Pirates and Traders from android market today..
i'm so surprised that this game is *very* similar with java game for symbian Sid Meier's Pirates!.
what drives me to the wall is this game asking for payment to remove the annoying ads. this sounds like davinci developer.
whatchu think?
well its not like its a game on android that it has been ripped from so cant really say its stolen. ive not seen any other like it for android yet. perhaps they took the idea from the symbian based version and ported it over to android. even if it is a pay to remove ads, people porting games need to be paid to as its not like they can just copy, paste, and change the file type.
Two points:
Firstly, there is nothing illegal or wrong about making a clone of another game; the idea for a game is not copyrightable. If it was, there would not be very many RTS or FPS games available to buy. In short, if P&T was a clone of Sid Meier's Pirates - which it actually is not - there would be nothing wrong with it being so.
Now, if all you had done here was accuse me of cloning this game, I wouldn't have bothered replying to this post. At this point, I've read people claim (with varying degrees of hate or love, depending on the person) that P&T is a clone of 6 or 7 pretty different games - including one that got released 6 months after Pirates and Traders (I apparently own time machine technology ). I can live with that - like every other game ever made, P&T is inspired by many of the games that have gone before it.
However, you go beyond that to make unfounded accusations, which brings me to my second point.
If you have played the game (which I almost doubt, given your comment), you would surely have noted that:
1) Pirates and Traders is a turn-based RPG/strategy game, not real-time with arcade mini-games. In other words, completely different game mechanics.
2) The graphics used in P&T are completely different.
3) The game interface is completely different.
Which makes me wonder - how exactly do you get from there to the idea of comparing me to the davinci developer? You know - if you don't like the game, that is your prerogative - I make games for my own fun, first and foremost. But the next time you wish to accuse someone of being a thief or copyright infringer, please do a little actual research first.

Nice.
Good to see the Dev come forward. Well put Sir
i actully have it on both my lg optimus one and my motorola defy, while its not the most high end graphics hog like soem of the gameloft titles i play, its great for killing time better then poker or solitare. as for the ad's and what not well chit man i look at these apps like i do the repairs i do for people on thier vehicles or bikes, ya its a hobby for me but time spent on x person repair is time i could be spending with my woman or kids s oa little bit of compensatrion would be appreciated as such the guys who dev these apps should also be compensated for there time spent doing it

There are reviews on the Android Store too about this good original game being a copy of another game (usually Sid Meyer's Pirates), but I think the only explanation for those is that those people simply only themselves know about one game on the subject before this, and incorrectly think the one they know was some sort of original idea, rather than the (historical) subject of many games and books and movies and so on. And yes, even if there were only one other game on the same subject, it would not be a "rip off" , and in any case this game is notably different from Pirates.
Hello!! I'm a student and a self claim indie game developer in Taiwan!!

In a distant future, a dark force gained control of the universe. Everything stopped moving – the time is frozen and gravity is gone. The only hope of recovering the universe relies on “Constant C,” a robot gifted with a small circle of power, allowing Constant C to move and to revive the time and gravity within the circle. When Constant C approaches an object, the object becomes “alive” and when Constant C leaves, the object becomes frozen again. By making good use of Constant C’s power, your mission is to remove obstacles ahead and find a way for Constant C to reach the control center of the dark force.
There are 29 levels. To solve the puzzles, you need to be intelligent and creative. Each puzzle gives you a new experience, and along the way, your will learn important skills that can help you solve the puzzles. It's amazying.
I made it to halfway through world 2- here are my thoughts.
This game is beautiful- it looks great, and the way it works is absolutely fantastic. I can honestly say it is one of the best games I've yet to play on Android- maybe the best.
That being said, it is way too big. 5MB should be the max before installation to SD should be implemented- this game is over 20. Either work on reusing more textures, or have it install to SD.
I was playing with the device laying down, and the gravity button was flipping out- switching every update cycle and just going crazy. You may want to have it display an X if the values aren't high enough to justify a gravity switch (I love the way this mechanic works, by the way!)
Fix these issues, and most standard prices you would ask for would be too low for this game- I would gladly pay for more worlds. (Though, if more worlds were added, you may want to work on the difficulty curve- if you want my thoughts on that, let me know). Again, great job!
Thanks that's huge compliment you give us there.. we are really appreciate.
We will work on the to SD feature.. since a lot of people had demanded it! I'll update it ASAP.
there are some reason makes us can't reuse texture though
first .. our artist is new in drawing texture for games... he just draw whatever he feels right and not considering about texture size and reusability. (we will do it better next time)
second.. in some device.. too many sprites makes game really laggy.. so we tend to use huge jpg file for background
i don't know anything about marketing on android app.... because we are totally noobies in this... Actually this game is not only our first game on android.. it's our first android app if you don't count "Hello World" as a app XD
After we think we learn enough to build this game. we go straight into it. It take us 5 months to build because we need to learn new stuff along the way
I use XNA mostly, and my brother use c++ and some graphic engine from his lab, neither did we use andengine before. and we love it!
We are thinking putting ads in it....and yet it's something we never tried XD, so I might need to check documents. After that we will release a clean ads free version for 0.99$ i think..for us.. most important thing is people can play our game. and feel it's not waste of time. those few hour must actually means something
Downloaded to my htc inspire 4G. I Am amazed by what you have created. This is awsome! I love free...but this needs to be a paid game. It is worth every penny.

it's a great game!
Just read about this on the portal. Downloaded it on my A100 and started playing, will have to download it to my EVO 3D later. Love it. This is definitely better than some of the games that other devs charge for. Excellent work.

If you haven't seen it yet, Further Beyond Fighting is now officially Xperia PLAY Optimized.
I remember playing this on iOS... and it was kind of a wreck... kinda >_>.
Looking at the reviews on both the iOS and Android versions, it's clear that "touch-screen" and "fighting game" just don't belong in the same sentence... this game got rated a lot lower than it deserves just from that.
Swapping between touch and physical controls, it's a MASSIVE difference.
Now it's all smooth-as-butter performance, WITH controls that respond

I had Street Fighter IV Volt on my 4th Gen iPod Touch... Capcom did alright with the limitations they had to work with, but compared to buttons it still sucked ass.
I'm hoping Capcom will release SFIV Volt on Xperia PLAY too so I can play it for real.

Of course it does... people been playing it with horrible touch-controls.
Lol if I had to play a fighter with touch-controls, I'd give it a very bad rating too. It's not perfect, of course, but after playing with touch controls then getting a substantially more responsive experience on Xperia PLAY, this feels like a brand new game. This is why Xperia PLAY kicks every other smartphone's ass at gaming.
Bad reviews because of it being poorly polished, that is. Judging from the game's screenies and video, it looks mediocre. Half-cooked. That's why.
I'm kinda addicted now.. I just love fighting games.. Eventhough I can't jump, no touch pad support, no good combo, only few characters.. but i'm sure this will not take that long because of those issues..

This doesn't look good at all.
No, this game looks terrible. I mean if this game had better gameplay and graphics then it would be worth it. It seems like a bad game from a fly by night vaporware dev. No offense to anyone who enjoys this game.
Exactly. Nailed it.
Hey There!
Hi Guys, it's us from PJS-Coding - developers of Further Beyond Fighting!
First: Thank you TLRtheory for this thread. We're glad you're all discussing our game.
Regarding all your feedback: We plan to implement new combo moves shortly.
New moves are a top priority for one of the next updates. And if you have any feedback and features you want us to implement, just drop us a mail: support.android(AT)further-beyond-fighting(DOT)com
We're available 365 days a year and respect all the feedback we get. TLRtheory can confirm that; he was one of the persons who asked us to add Xperia PLAY support. And now it's here!
Stay in touch!
Now that's what I like to see from a dev.
I think its great that you are listening and participating through the Xda community. I wonder is or was there ever a demo release of the title? It seems that a round or two of the game would open the flood gates for areas of oppurtunites.

Thanks. We'll start by adding some cool combos. The upcoming v1.1.1 will come in several languages. In the meanwhile, we'll be working out some cool combos for you!

IMO a demo would be a better idea than a "free to play" version, I tend to stay away from free to play games or free games with in app purchases. As these tend to alway run in the background, and flood your notification bar with "special offers" Gun bros by glu is a prime example of this
I really loved playing Gun Bros but uninstalled for that very reason.
