New got questions? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hey all just got my g2x. I'm coming from a nexus s and this phones sick. I do have one question though. When ever I hold down the volume rocker and the power button to go into recovery it formats my phone. Doesn't go into recovery. The only way I can get into cwm recovery is from the app itself. Do I need to rename a file or physically replace the old recovery with koushes recovery or what? Is this a known issue or am I doing something stupid?

Power+volume up = format
Power+volume down = recovery

Wow thanks that's funny. That's my duh moment for the day

[Solved]Trouble getting into Clockwork Recovery

I don't know if this has been posted before or not, but there is a simple solution for those who are having problems getting into Clockwork Recovery after they root their phones. I for one was one of those people...until the solution was brought to my attention last night. WHILE RUNNING THE ROOT PROCESS, when your phone reboots unplug it and pull the battery BEFORE it gets past the initial samsung screen, THEN BOOT INTO RECOVERY and viola!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have Clockwork Recovery. May I remind you that this wasn't thought out by me...I'm just the messenger.
[EDITED] Sorry folks, in case you didn't know already, I forgot to mention a couple things. To get into recovery you need to hold down the VOL DOWN and CAMERA buttons while pressing and hold POWER button down until the recovery screen comes up. There are two types: BLUE TEXT=ANDROID RECOVERY or GREEN TEXT=CLOCKWORK RECOVERY. You are good to go if the text is green.

Don't forget to add the differences between recovery and clockwork. Recovery is blue and clockwork is green. If it's blue you are not in clockwork. Also to hold down volume down, power, and the camera button at the same time when you boot your phone to get into clockwork.

LOL, that was happenning to me recently (sometime yasterday). I thought that was it, the end of my Inspire, and I did VOL UP+POWER , I even trying to hook up to pc and redo the rooting, wouldn't work at on. Then google is my best friend , VOL DOWN+POWER got me back to Recovery mode, I will remember for the rest of my Android phone's life
that takes me into regular recovery not clockworkmod
Do you see an option that says Recovery after you get into hboot?

Also, make sure you don't have a PD98IMG file on the root of your SD card or it will always try to install that and not let you select recovery from the options. ( this happened to me multiple times before I realized what was going on.)

has this problem already came up if so I missed it a link would be nice to fix my phone Thanks
I could be misunderstanding your problem here but I think i had a similar issue... first of all make sure you're holding down the power button long enough to boot up. Seems to take 4 or 5 seconds with this phone.
Also when I had the issue i took out the bat, put it back, plugged into a wall charger and then held the power button that worked. But I think really my issue was impatience not holding the power button the first time long enough.
no i am the screen wont say updating or whatever when i hold the up and down button but it looks for a driver ?? and installs the Right driver
helpppppppppp your way to the search button.
Thread moved to proper forum.
You only hold volume down and power. I had the same issue. Holding both volumes will cause the phone to not boot.

People in Hell want Ice Water!
So you flashed the recovery before you rooted. Try reflashing the original recovery. I don't know if that will work. You should have rooted then flashed recovery.

thats what im doing now but gewt stuck at waiting for bootloader to int for some reason
Well your g2x will never go out of the updating screen you have to wait until one click says it has transfered the file. Wait a minute or so after that and unplug the USB and put your battery back in the I would do a master rest.

thing is my lg screen is black can i still root with a black screen ? like i said only action i get out of the g2x is if i hold the vol up And Down and plug it in then i hear the sound of the computer finding it witch gives me hope
I would try recovering recovery befor trying to root again. I would do the nvflash but pick the original recovery instead of cm. Then after that master reset by original recovery which is hold power and down volume. Recovery will rest your rom. Rooting puts you root permissions I believe into a different partition any ways that's how a master reset does not wipe them. Your problem sounds like more of a recovery issue then root.

It is problem is it stays at Waiting for Bootloader int how long should that be there?
are you holding the volume buttons down and plunging in the usb before you select the version? you have to continue holding them the whole time. should pick it up in matter of seconds.

HTC Screen only on startup. Volume control faulty

I've got a curly one. I lost super user app so I was doing a restore through EXT4 boot as I have no working volume rocker.
The program got stuck and screen went black.
Upon restart , I get to the HTC screen of death and nothing else.
I cannot hold down volume and power button as volume button is shot.
Is there a way to connect through USB and fire up a recovery screen ?
i've got somewhat of the same issue - due to some water damage, my vol - button does not seem to function anymore. i would like to keep flashing ROMs, but am afraid of getting into a bootloop and not being able to access hboot. is there any way to bypass the vol- power button combo for getting into hboot?
I've got a faulty vol+ button here. No clue why.
ADB reboot recovery
My vol down is starting to go hmm I wonder what the fail rate is ? I smell a design flaw.

Did a lot of reading on ADB recovery ... Installed Android SDK and rebooted into recovery where I was able to do a reinstall off the SD Card.... Happy chap here .... Thanks all
Installing ROM Manager from the market will also allow you to reboot your phone to recovery.

Yes but you have to be up and running to use it.
I use 4 ext boot which allows me to use recovery with out the need for a volume control. Just need power, menu and home . buttons.

4ext is based on cwm. Cwm can use the soft buttons too.

Voldwn+power=bootloader volup+power=nothing?

I just recently got my referb bolt ( my original died.. capacitive buttons stopped responding...)
speed rooted it using the AIO thunderbolt tool and all went well.
However, I have ONE really odd issue. I can get into recovery using rom manager, power menu options and through the bootloader reboot into recovery, BUT I CANNOT use volup+power to get into recovery and I cant figure out why.
I tried re-flashing CWM using the AIO tool. I tried using TWRP I even re-flashed CWM in rom manager and cleared my caches. This isnt a huge issue, but 99% working isnt cool and I would hate to have something go wrong later where i need volup+power.
appreciate it guys:good:
I thought it was vol down

Yea volume up and power never worked for me to get into recovery. It's volume down but it takes you to the bootloader not recovery. On my eris it would take you to the recovery but the dinc2 and this device dont.

i dont recall vol up and power ever doing anything on HTC phones. I know it doesnt on the TB. I think you might be getting mixed up with Samsungs.

I must be going crazy, but I could of sworn we were supposed to be able to boot right to recovery using vol up+ power on the bolt. I knew about vol down for boot loader.Maybe I just haven't flashed my phone in forever.
I DO have a Samsung device...maybe I'm confused.
