How Do I know Which is SAMOLED and SLCD - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm in the UK and about to buy the nexus s, just sold my xperia x10 (I will never buy an se phone), I want the SAMOLED version, is there any way of telling which is which?
Thanks.

I went through this recently. If the model is a 9023 variant then I believe it's Super LCD. If it's a 9020 variant then it's probably Super AMOLED. But be sure to explicitly ask the seller before you buy. I bought one on eBay which was decsribed as SAMOLED and when it arrived it wasn't and there was a big argument about taking it back, even though he'd wrongly advertised it.

thank you very much for your reply. I'm thinking of getting one on eBay. so if you go to settings, the model number should be GT i9020?

Check the serial : 9023 is slcd always. I'd go with that better battery life...

"Bad ESN" means that it's (most likely) been reported stolen, and it's been blacklisted at the provider. Changing SIM-card won't work.
It's probably the NS4G which is Sprint only (hence why it has a bad esn)
and on the other hand, every gsm version of the nexus s should work fine in the uk.
I have got a uk model now

[Q] Is there a THE Nexus S? (I'm confused with all the models)

Hey Guys,
I'm interested in the Nexus S, I'm sorry I'm creating a thread to ask this, but it's just driving me crazy.
I plan on using T-Mobile in the US. When I search Evil-Bay and other online stores. They just put up i9020 as the model number and list all the bands. Is there a Nexus S version that has all the bands (I hope I'm using the right term) that the i9020T and i9020A have?
I bought (haven't paid for it yet) this Nexus S off of Evil-Bay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/12086207081...NX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_766wt_1267
and the description says it's a i9020A (the wrong one I need as I was later told by friends). I contacted the seller to ask which model it is and the seller is telling me it has the same Band Network as T and A model.
SO, is there a version that has every Band Network available?
Thank you.
No Nexus S has all the bands. Linky for reference.
You want the i9020 (original) or i9020T, or even an i9023 (this is slightly thicker and has the SC-LCD, not SAMOLED). The 4G obviously won't work for you at all, though the i9020A will sitll give you 2G/GPRS/EDGE calls and data - you'll get no 3G with T-Mo with the A model.
Edit: In fact, you might get some 3G with the 2100mhz band. I don't live in the US to guarantee anything though, wiki says T-Mo is 50% 1700 and 50% 2100mhz.
If you live in the USA, buy 9020, not 9023, you won't have samples screen with 9023

E-bay is full of crap ... Try Amazon and look for "I9020T" if you want T mobile,(or I9023 for AMOLED screen is not important for you and you save 20-30 bucks)
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-GT-Go...2C48/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330109609&sr=8-1
If seller doesn't specify I9020T in item discription , move over ...
check out cowboom.com they have REALLY good prices but they very from day to day so...
Thank you for the info guys!
The seller contacted me and said the phone I purchased from him is:
model GTI9020.
BAND: Tri-bandHSPA(900,2100,1700MHz),quad-bandGSM/E DGE(850,900,1900MHz)
But, did they ever make a White i9020/i9020T model? The only information I found for the white version is that it was made specifically for AT&T so did they ever make a white version for tmobile ?
I don't believe they did, but there is a white i9023 which you'll probably need to get shipped from Australia or Europe if they have them. I personally prefer the SC-LCD over SAMOLEDs (even all the SGS2s ive seen have ugly tints), it's just a little harder to find cases that fit since it is a little thicker.
Also, if it is in fact those bands, it is the i9020T. Get him to post a picture of the sticker behind the battery and see if it says i9020A, just to make sure.

TMOB US -- S3 as warranty/insurance replacement!

I am a us tmobile customer and my original phone had S4 printed on the spec list, which was located on the side of the retail box. I had some issues with the phone, which was ultimately replaced under the extended protection that I had on the phone's plan. The replacement didn't arrive in a retail box and it did not have a spec list printed on the box. Is it possible I was just sent an S3, as qf bench states that I am clocked at 1.7? I thought all US phones were S4. Whats the best way to determine this and if I were in fact sent an S3, do you think I could possibly reject the S3 replacement and request an S4?...
I guess one way would be flashing an S4 ROM and if the phone bricks then I know I had an S3
Use CPU Spy. If it is S3 it should go up to 1.7GHz. If it's an S4, the max should be 1.5GHz.
I would reject the replacement and ask for an S4. You paid for an S4, you should get one. Or ask for a discount lol.
Sent from pixels to more pixels
If it has 1,7 Ghz than it is s3. Download antutu benchmark and check phone info in there if you find any where writteb Ville C2, than you can be sure you've got s3 version.

In Bootloader , if you see VILLEC2 PVT Ship S_on RL , then it can be sure it's S3.

Check bootloader, and if it's VilleC2 then you should definitely take it up with TMOUS and demand an S4. If you paid for a version with an S4, that's exactly what you should get.
T-mobile always send replacement in plain box not the "retail" box. You're assuming it's an S3, best thing to do is check using any of the method posted above.

The method I used to make sure the One S I bought was an S4

I was determined to make sure that my One S was an S4 version. Given that its a pure gamble which
version you will receive when purchasing from a retailer, and the fact that the odds are now well stacked
against getting an S4 version anyway, I had to come up with a workaround for this problem.
My solution was to buy second hand, this way I could know the exact model I was buying beforehand.
To do this I singled out a potential purchasing candidate on Ebay and then sent a question to the seller asking
him to tell me the model number stated on the box. As long as this was Z520e, it was ok to purchase.
This I did and got it for about £250 (brand new on amazon they are £310).
Sorted. Or so I thought... On examining the phone I saw that the serial and IMEI numbers were different
to that which were printed on the box label. Either the phone had been put in the wrong box originally or
the phone had been out for repair and substituted for a different model. Either way it could now be an S3
or S4. I downloaded quadrant and ran the test, luckily it was an S4 Phew!
So for anyone wanting an S4 from Ebay, be sure to ask for the model number printed on the box and for
the seller to check that the serial numbers on the box match up to the phone.
I bought it in the same way but not second hand, a new one!

Can't you just check the box when the retailer brings it our of storage? the box clearly states the model number so you can tell easily, that's what I did!

You could do that, but round here it means paying about £400 for the privilege of buying from a store.
boot to bootloader!!!.if it says "ville" ==> S4 else ==> S3.
good luck!!
I got my One S from an online retailer for about 370AUD, which is just around the same as 370USD. It was specifically listed as a z520e, which made purchasing much easier.
