what are some good apps that i should download after i have rooted my phone?
thanks.
Adfree, titanium backup, msl reader if you don't know your msl, set cpu or overclock widget, root explorer (or any other file manager that will let you mount /system as read/write), a screen capture software such as shoot me, and a shell application for your phone, such as connect bot. Check them out on the market for more details. Adfree is the bomb.
Well thank you kind sir, I will check them out.

Some of my most used apps:
Quickboot
Titanium Backup
Root Explorer
Switch Pro
SetCPU
ROM Mgr
Speed Test/Linpack/Quadrant Standard (These don't do a lot for you but they are good for bragging )
LCD Density Changer
Spare Parts
Just a couple that I have used. I have so many downloaded to my phone that it is hard to keep track. Hope this helps out. Sorry if there are any repeats.

Umm, the xda app is a good one. much faster than just using the browser.
Google translate
Gps where am I
Quickboot
.podkast
Hulu (soso, browser works fine for that)
Musicbox
Titanium backup (careful with restoring system stuff, mostly just backup/restore apps)
Sms backup/restore (if you picture flashing often and care about keeping your texts)
Wired tether was a huge must have for me, but I noticed it broke my 4g (not totally broke, flashing a diff Rom got it back. Something in the bin.ip -if I remember right- in the symlink it creates. Davidlightle has taken over development of it for Evo, but seems to be taking a little break from it. That said, there are others whose 4g was unaffected by it. There's a good thread on it if you search the devs name and wired tether) hell, I rarely use 4g. Too much battery hog.
Multitask manager is great. Very configurable. A must-have in my book.
IMDb.
Album art grabber
I know some of these are repeats. That's just me double-suggesting them. Especially quickboot.
Good Rom? Personal opinion, obviously, but my hands down favorite is Virus Rom RC3 with carbon theme. Been running it for a month and haven't seen anything to make me even consider switching. Check his thread in the development subforum.
Enjoy.

Switchpro is just handy I think. I have one of the widgets on the home screen for all of my roms. I like spare parts for the battery history and information.
As for Roms:
My daily driver is Burnt Droid. I like a bare bones Rom with out all of the extras. I just keep tweaking it and adding/subtracting things as I like. But I also have backups of CM6 and Virus on my SD card that I will switch to from time to time.
rom manager, adfree, and wireless tether were the 1st three i downloaded. awesome apps!

Can't wait for wifi and gps to be finished!!!! Simply amazing work guys!
So what all would be required to get calls working on this? Is it just a matter of getting a phone app on there or is it a more complex problem? Id love to see this get to be a full fledged, stable rom.
It won't ever have working phone stuff.
This is honeycomb, not meant for phones

You could have a duel boot setup to have both in one device, easier than switching backups. I'm gonna give this a run, any kernels work best for this?
Loaded this up, slow I expected. No on board keyboard that I got to work. The physical keyboard did not have functional numbers that I got to work. I could not get the power button to work either.Nice work though, looks good.
So, sent from my mobile. What's new?
sorry to bother, but i've a question.. i've got a samsung i9003 that has chipset mostly identical to droid, the rest of the hardware is different, i know, phone, gps, wifi, etc. it is possible to recompile kernel from milestone to samsung, knowing the differences, and adding the kernel modules to make it work? gingerbread for this phone is arriving next month, but no rom have been spotted, but i hopo... sorry to invade your section, but i wanted to ask to some developers and i hope a good reply... sorry for my english.
True, the original software isnt meant for phones BUT, he just managed to boot it on a phone, opening up the possibilty phone use. I want to know whats required to get it working.
I loaded up the rom and it works but there are missing elements, without them it is pretty much useless. I had no wifi or data so I could not load anything on it. Neat to play with though, needs a 1000 MHz kernel just to tinker with.
kind make me happy i made the choice of buying this phone in july last summer.
How about root access? Flashed another overclock kernel pushed setcpu but no root access
Very impressive although for phone use doesn't do much there. Plus I can't use the power switch to shut device on and off
did this project die? hopefully not just seems no development has happened in a while
Really, its not going to get any better than this. Only reason I ported it to my phone was because I wanted to see what it would look like. Then people started requesting ports. This was never and will never be anything close to a DD. Its just something fun to flash and play with for a minute, then go back to your ctual rom.

What purpose do these packages:
Phone.apk
TelephonyProvider.apk
serve on a wifi only device?
I've renamed these on my wife's nook color to supposedly save some battery live.
Does this need to be done on the XOOM too?
or do they just sit there and never actually run?
With the nook color and the roms available for it are phone roms. With the honeycomb rom on the Xoom its a tablet only rom that doesn't have the same files as the froyo and gingerbread roms.
That's not helpful.
Which is why I think its weird that Phone.apk, and TelephonyProvider.apk are on my XOOM with HC 3.1
You might have noticed in the OP that I asked what purpose they served.
SIP Phone support and they are disabled by default
honeycomb is gingerbread
honeycomb is written or was written over gingerbread. it has recently come out that honeycomb was not written from scratch as claimed by google. it was not written to be a tablet specifc system. it was simply a few tweek on gingerbread with UI changes. for proof, there have been several post on the internet where people can simply change the lcd density, by lowering it it will change to gingerbread UI, so basically honeycomb will someday be on phones as honeycomb and not gingerbread. here is a link to pcword article. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2385710,00.asp, or search google for keywords "LCD Density Change Honeycomb to Gingerbread"
lol yea I saw that just a few days ago, either on the XDA blog or the androidcentral one, I forget which.
So are we assuming that when its running in HC mode that the Phone, TelephonyProvider, Mms, and VoiceDialer (etc. if more) services are disabled automatically?
They don't take up that much space, but still kind of waste if they aren't going to be used on whatever device the OS is being installed on. *shrugs*
Google has already stated that as of Ice Cream Sandwich (God these names...) they intend to run a single version of android across all devices -- phones, tablets, mp3 players, toasters, "personal" massagers....you name it. Therefore there may already be some apks that can't be used on all devices. As for the phone.apks, remember that some devices that have/will have honeycomb also have phone capabilities, such as the Galaxy Tab line.
If you want to delete the phone apps go for it, I doubt it will cause a problem...but I am not sure if it would be worth the effort.

I agree, not really worth it.
The services aren't running, or seem to be doing anything at the moment.
But if they want 1 install to rule them all it would make sense (to me) that maybe the installer should notice that the device, has or has not, the hardware necessary to use the services before installing them.
No sense in loading the APKs for the camera or cell radio on a device that doesn't have them like a toaster. Likewise, no need for a toastiness level utility on a NOOK or Nexus S.
Its just waste of limited toaster storage space.

In a world of only intelligent, savvy users who are paying attention, I totally agree....but that is not going to happen.
If YOU had to pay the support bill, would you trust mainstream users to choose the right features and modules for their device, or would you just install everything and let some apks just take IP space?

sadly, you're probably right.
But I would release 2 separate installs, an Auto for the people that shouldn't be messing with it, and a manual install for the rest of us who want the choice, and understand the implications of our actions.
While we're dreaming how about some 512TB microSDXC cards for everyone? lol
I have started a comparison chart for the currently available ROM's for the G2X. Since we are just getting started with this device it seems like a great time.
I have made the spreadsheet editable by anyone, I encourage and would appreciate any help with keeping it current. I also do not mind any improvements you see fit, such as adding or changing columns, conditional formatting etc. I just put this together in the time I had available today and it is a rough draft. I know some of you here have much more experience in using Google docs and making something like this so do your thing! I'd like this to be a community project.
PLEASE do not intentionally falsify any information or in any way harm the integrity of this project, we all benefit from this site and there is nothing funny about ruining this for others. Also, I will make a nightly backup.
I can't seem to embed this into the post so here is a link.

Bionix has kernel .1.1 according to its changelog?
It seems you are trying to make a point or something with the voodoo lagfix?
If none of the phones have it, why would there be a column then?? The column would only be necessary if one of the roms had it. Why put it in there?
We will never have a lag-fix as we already have a great file system (ext3 and ext4) only reason that would be needed is for Samsungs ****ty rfs file system. Might as well remove it from the chart
Good comparison chart though. ^^
Edit: Oh and mine does have spare parts, boot and shutdown animation changed as well

You know what, I actually re-flashed my old vibrant for the wife to use the same day I flashed my first ROM onto this phone so I remembered hearing the lagfix lady while I was flashing a ROM on here and so I thought.. well, maybe it was a little late when I put this together. Column removed.
Once again, if there is something silly like this that you guys see please feel free to make the change, I'm not claiming ownership of this spreadsheet.

Hi tweezit! Thanks for taking the time to reply. I am running your ROM now and its sexy Updated your info.
Removed the lagfix column, I guess it had just become a permanent part of my psyche.
Should I replace with a file system column (ext3 or ext4)? Or is that not important?
Also, is it safe to assume everyone is running the same base band at the moment?
Good topic
My ROM info is lacking
Stock launcher2
Included: T-mobile Theme Manager/Chooser, SpareParts, FileManager, Torch, DSP Manager, ROM Manager and WiFi Calling.
Kernel is 2.6.32.41 with latest patches, updates, OC/UV etc etc

Thanks for the info faux! I promise its nothing personal that yours was lacking. I actually think your ROM is brilliant, and your a bit of a genius![/suckup] I'm just sticking to froyo for now.
I really appreciate you guys (devs) posting in here. I've been working long days I just wanted to get this out there even as a really rough draft so it didn't just become a bigger and bigger task I don't get around to. I
Added Gigglebread and File System column.
Thanks to everyone who has edited with more info!
This is going to sound petty, but can we add a column for HD recording support? I know the leaked build doesn't support it (that's why I went back to stock), do any of the custom ROMs support it yet that are not Froyo-based? I presume all froyo ROMs would support HD recording with the LG camera apk.
What kind of problems would I be looking at if I copied/installed the Spare Parts apk from CM7 over to the Infused v2.0.2 ROM? Would it work or would it seriously screw me up? I'm only interested in getting it because I have screen density set to 200 right now and some of my apps don't fit the entire screen. I've found fixes on a couple of the apps, but not all. I remember on my Aria there was an option I chose in spare parts and it forced everything to resize. I think it was the compatibility mode setting. I don't want to install CM7 just yet. Waiting on bluetooth support.
BTW, I did search first but didn't find the answer in any other forum. However, my search-fu is kinda weak. lol
Thanks for any help!

The market version has advertisements added. Really shady if you ask me, taking a free open source app, putting ads into it, and then throwing it up on the market.
