4G sucks after installing wireless or USB app - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I notice my 4g is worse than 3g speeds after using or just installing and not using wireless or USB teathering. Also rooted phone with 1 click method and now clockwork doesn't even show, just regular recovery shows. Have Sprint, stock rom, since clockwork doesn't show, don't know if I'm still rooted . Any ideas?

If there isn't a hack or tweak for signal issues soon, prolly use the D720 rom posted in this section for restoring to stock. Not looking for awesome speeds, only what my phone should be doing in the first place.

[Q] 4G Speed

I rooted the phone and without a custom rom i get the h+ with the check mark. But I get no connection.
So I tried to install a custom mod and now i dont get the 4g speed i get an h with an up down arrow but I can connect to internet.
Can anyone help me. Please
Make sure the battery cover and sd card/sim card cover it on. Check settings>wireless and networks> mobile networks, and check your apn settings.
the h or h+ is irrelevant.
rooting procedure breaks the h+ connection. known fact. cm7 speedtest=.62 megabits down. .12 up. stock s on in same spot= 2.30 megabits down. .76 up.

Then there is something wrong with your flash. CM7 gets me the exact same speeds as any sense ROM.
Custom ROMs do NOT have the h+ icon. That is all it is. You may have to edit build.prop to get the 14.4mbit connectivity back. But no towers can even go near that fast right now.

This man speaks da truff.
Yup. LeeDroid's rom shows 3G for HSPA, and H for HSPA+, from what I can tell. I've had it cycle through the icons after a reboot. I haven't messed with a rom yet that had the H+ icon.
I just got 1514k / 1321k using the Gingerbread version of Android Revolution. Mine only shows an "H" icon.

Which rooting procedure did you use? I used bubbys and my download speeds are way slower.

While I know you weren't asking me, I too used Bubby's tool and my speeds are as fast as can be expected based on the time of day. I've seen as high as 3.79dn and 1.5up.
Dl Prop Editor from market and see what your settings are in build.prop.

I personally used the hack kit before bubby's came out.
Custom ROMs tend to remove the H+ icon, so all you will see is an H.
The speed varies on some ROMs. Edit your build.prop and reboot twice, and you should be good to go. I got 2.5ish on stock ROM, I get 5+ now.
GL!
I know mine varies all the time depening on the time of day. Used bubbys on 3.5 rev rom and have seen 4.6 and 1.9.. it varies though
Waiting on the new gb we will see what speeds we get there

Oh heck yeah I am. But I hadn't made any changes to apn, telephony, build.prop when running these tests. Stock settings. Just root added through my method in the dev forum.

[Q] 4G problems?

Just recently flashed BAMF GingerRemix 2.0.6, and noticed I no longer have 4G any longer at home (Mountain View, CA). I first thought my 4G was entirely gone on my phone with the new radio+ROM, but then it came back about 20miles away from home yesterday.
I'm currently sitting here next to another rooted Tbolt that has 4G, but mine is showing only 3G. I've tried toggling 4G on and off, but to no avail?
Any suggestions out there? Would reflashing the radio do anything? I was coming from Bamf1.7, but can't recall whether I had the same problem then.
Thanks for any help!
I have the same damn problem and can't figure it out!

T-Mobile Data Connection Problems?

I recently upgraded my phone to the new ICS software, I flashed the Virtuous Inquisition 2.1.0 and then 3.0.0 they both worked fantastically but when I turned my phone on after being on standby it would have a data connection but it wouldn't communicate with anything.
So getting fed up with that I flashed the update given by InsertCoin ICS and then flashed the ROM.
It is now doing the same thing again?
It's very finicky as to when it works and when it won't. But when it works it works well?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

same problem, it works, but not well, it used to go from 4g or H to 2g, now it goes to 3g and hangs. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Same here. Data seems really buggy on all the ics builds I have used for my tmo sensation. Not sure if it is firmware or Rom problems.

+1 I think I've had this problem with every android phone I ever had. I wish there was an option to just leave the data on at all times like home internet. I hate that it has to search for signal and connect every time I click something because it always hangs. Yea 4G is fast but if it has to dial up the internet every time I use it whats the point? The only fix I know for hanging internet is to toggle airplane mode. Which is some BS in IMHO.
Is there a way to disable 3g so it only bounces 4g to 2g?

I flashed the virtuous firmware update and formatted all partitions except for the SD card, and its been working for the last week very consistantly.
To my knowledge there is no way to turn on and off searching for 3g and only switch between 4g and 2g. Because I believe Tmobile's. 4g is just faster 3g? Idk.

[Q] Network upgraded to 4G but I only get H

hey there I/'m living in St. Kitts in the Caribbean.
LIME the network provider upgraded from EDGE to 4g on Friday, but I realise since then my phone is only showing H (3G) and not H+(4G).
i am wondering if this has anything to do with the rom i'm currently running (trickdroid) or not?
I was in the city centre friday night where they had the launch and pretty close to the cell tower so I know distance isn't the issue
Thanks for the help in advance
Most roms don't display the +. Its purely cosmetic. Only roms I know that display it are based on the inspire 3.20 version.
Again its purely cosmetic and does not effect speed. Heck the phone is only capable of 14mbs Max. I would say 3.5 g Max
Thanks for the response I was just wondering. Makes sense with what you are saying. And I just realise something I tried another Rom, it wasn't even loading so had to restor this on and realised that while booting up it went from E to 3G to H. But I don't think I'm getting even 2 mb from this will take a screen shot and post to you.thx again for the response.

Depending on what ROM you're using, I've found Speedtest to be somewhat unreliable for whatever reason. For example, I'm running Sabsa Prime 7.0. When I do a test on wifi, I get 15+mbps down and around 4mbps up with 30 ping. When I run it on 4g, I get 7kbps down and 2mbps up with 150 ping. Obviously my actual 4g speeds are not 7kbps. On ARHD with the same radio the test showed 6-8mbps down and 3.5mbps up with 70 ping.
In summary, unless you feel that your real use speed is really that slow, forget what Speedtest says.
Ok cool got you.
But I can tell it's really slow as well. I will try one of those other rims cause this one iy takes a while to switch to programs etc. And I don't have a lot running in the background. The only thing I've realise though is that I've not yet learned how to bring over my settings ( WiFi and apn etc even my contacts ) when going from one Rom.to the the next.

Actually...
If you edit your build.prop, faster speeds can be obtained.
Also H+ is 4G, but its not like LTE speeds or anywhere close. It is more like a couple mbs above 3G.
Speedtest is fine. Your data icon will sometimes lie to you. No joke. It'll say H+, but in reality it is 3G. All depends on your signal strength.
- hit my thanks button if i helped you -
Thanks, how do I edit my build?
I am not sure what's going on it is.very slow and I am wondering if the Rom is the problem wondering if I should go back to the original 4g Rom that came with the phone

You'll need an app like "Root Explorer". Through the app you navigate to "/system" and long press the "build.prop" and edit. You may encounter an error message with something like "file is in read-only" which then you will have to change the settings to "write only" or something like that to edit which can be done in the explorer app. Once you get that far you can edit the build.prop to your liking. For settings that people have found useful search the forums.

If you're syncing to Google, your wifi passwords, contacts, even wallpaper will automatically restore when logging back into Google after switching ROMs.
Thanks I realise the apps came back bit not sure the WiFi passwords did. I'm really trying to find a Rom for Inspire 4g that

[Q] Blaze does not get 4G after mod

I have not been able to connect with 4g since I modded Blaze.
I have used many ROMs and settings, searched for weeks to find answer to activate 4g, no joy.
4g works perfectly with stock Rom. My wife has identical phone that easily and automatically picks up 4g sitting next to me while my modded phone only gets 3G or occasionally H+. We have swapped SIMs to confirm SIM and hardware are functional as well as signal reception.
I have uploaded and reloaded many different mods: stable, nightly, paranoid, Pac man, etc.- Same result, everything works pretty well except never 4G
All installs were clean and fresh.
I have seen this question in this forum and other, but no replies/ solution.
Anyone have an answer why the 4G does not work on my modded Blaze?
H+ is 4g it's just displayed differently. Nothing is wrong with your phone.

I suspected, but could not confirm that H+ and 4g were the same, Thank you
P.S. Speeds on H+ with 4 bars are ping 1048ms, 9.19 Mbps Down and 1.87 Mbps down. Isn't 4G faster?
Our phones do not have true 4g. The stock ROM shows 4g more as a marketing gimmick. I'm my experience with the blaze 3g has better ping times while 4g or whatever you want to call it has better speeds. Of course it all depends on location

If you want 4G, get an LTE phon

Not really helpful replying to a really old thread. You are pretty much talking to yourself by saying that comment.
