I really want a new boot animation...
As long as they are Edify compatible which I just checked the MW3 one, and it is EDIFY compatible, then yeah flash away.
Or
Just take the bootanimation.zip out of the zip and stick it in /system/media on your phone.
Bam done

Perhaps, permissions. Just take the bootanimation.zip out of the downloaded zip and drop it (adb push, root explorer etc. move it to /system/media)

Use a file manager with root access and copy the zip file to system/media deleting the old one first then rename to bootanimation.zip. edit:beat me to the answer

I finally figured out how to add sound to a bootscreen. I've attached the file if anyone would like to use it. Thanks go to sdotcarlisle for the original port of the bootscreen. Thanks to zachg432 for making the flashable zip. Attached below (droidboot.zip). You still need to remove your old bootscreen.
There is a post over on the eris development page that has what your looking for, a guide.its on the first it second page. Maybe third. Good luck

Try unzipping it first then put it in the folder I think that might have been how I did. Also did you try deleting your old bootscreen?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
should i delete the things in the bootscreen folder and then copy the contents of the zip
Either that or just delete the entire folder and add the folder from the zip.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App

You don't need recovery to install it. If it's the actual bootanimation.zip file from inside a rom, you can just paste it over the current one in /system/media with root explorer or advanced push. Be sure to mount /system as r/w to copy it over.

You shouldn't flash the boot animation. Just replace the one located in /system/customize/resource with the stock animation .zip...make sure you name it the same name of the boot animation that was included in your rom.

Extract is as in get all the .apk and system files? Or extract as in pull the .rfs file out of the .tar file?
I tried mounting the .rfs file in windows and cygwin. No dice.

is it hard to make a app install and overwrite the existing one using a flashable zip..???
Not really. The easiest way is to take an existing flashable zip and modify it to do what you want. That's what I do, anyway.
