Losing Wifi everytime!!!

What is with this? I 've gone through several HTC phones on the EVO and everytime I lose my wifi. Anyone can help?
When do you lose the Wi-Fi?
I use the wi-fi in my house and it will maintain a constant signal.
UNLESS
It goes to sleep mode, then it turns off the wi-fi as well.
Whenever I bring it out of sleep, it always has to re-connect.
I don't know if there is some registry setting you can set to keep wi-fi turned on.
I think the risk is that it will drain the battery much quicker though.
I'm using the MAPL build 2.60 beta for a Dash 3G and the battery life is incredible.
You can make it stay on by going to: Comm Manager>Settings>WLAN Settings>Power Mode and unchecking the "Auto turn off..." box. And yes, it does suck the battery like a vampire and makes the phone HOT! You can also adjust how long it will stay on for after LCD OFF.
Wifi question
Hi, before i drive myself mad, I am convinced that my phone uses gprs for data, not wifi. And my bills seem to agree with me.
When I use things like MyPhone, either connected to my PC or connected to my wifi at home, it seems to appear on my bill as a data charge, which would indicate that it is using the network??
Am I right, wrong or stupid? Any help greatly appreciated.

[Q] HTC Desire S Sleeping Mode Problem

Hello everyone,
I'm using HTC Desire S (Android 2.3.3). I've been having a weird problem lately. When my screen goes off, I stop getting notifications after 10 minutes or so. I've never experienced such a problem before. My phone was running smoothly. I used to get notifications from Whatsapp even when my phone was on sleeping mode... I started not to get notifications from any application unless I turn the screen on and wait for 5 minutes or directly click on the application wait for it to establish connection with my mobile data. I guess my mobile data dies when my phone is on sleeping mode or something. I'm not sure though because my mobile data connection is always on but somehow applications lose connection with my mobile data until my phone wakes up. Can you help me with that? I've installed an application called Juice Defender awhile ago but I deleted it since it messed up my phone. I also tried to reset my phone but still no luck... Is there anything I can do?
Thanks
do you use "Juice Defender" ?
if so, try to disable it... i had the same problem (with other device... not the Desire S) and it been solved by disabling "Juice Defender"
Not sure what could be causing that if it persists after a factory reset.
Have you looked at using Tasker instead of juice defender? I also found juice defender quite buggy, and it was in searching for an alternative that I found tasker. I think it has a free trial period. Instal a plugin called synker. Your can then set tasker to periodically force a sync of your accounts. My profile forces a sync for
2 minutes every 15 minutes, then turns auto sync off (if my screen is off). Works well and saves battery too.
Taker is quite tricky to get used to, so if you struggle, get those two installed then send me a PM and I'll send you the tasker profile. Import it and your problem will be solved!

ive had a simaliar issue
wifi and data go off randomly when in sleep mode
im on stock 2.3.5 and not rooted
no juicedefender apps
On my DS after the phone is left asleep overnight - I never turn it off as it's my alarm clock - I frequently get "NO SERVICE" and have to reboot.
Never got to the bottom of it either....

Data Network Shuts off....

So, my friend recently got this phone...
Its not even a week since he bought it....
We use WhatsApp Messenger to chat but there is one problem.
His Data Network is always on but when he going to sleep he keeps his Data Network "ON" but it actually goes into something like sleep mode....
My messages don't get delivered to him via WhatsApp.....
It's like every time he turns off his phones display, his Data Network goes onto sleep mode, doesn't matter What time of the day it is......
Does anyone have had this problem before and is there any solution to it?
By default the background data is switched off. You can change it in the setting.

[Q] Keep wifi alive when in sleep mode

I was wondering if there really isn't a way to disable my HTC Titan from turning off wifi when in sleep mode?
I have alot of push email, fb-sync, twitter-sync etc. And when it disables wifi in sleep, it uses 3g for these syncs, which has used my up dataplan of 200mb in 2 days (in android I didn't use the entire amount for a month), and 3g drains the battery ALOT faster than wifi does.
I would think the devs here at XDA would have been able to do something about this, but I can't find anything?
Thanks
man, this is a very old big problem, many topics like this have been discussed but the answer is simple: wait for Microsoft
If you leave the phone plugged in, it will use WiFi. If you plug it into a PC and the PC is running the Zune software, it will actually connect through the PC's Internet connection.
3G may drain the battery faster than WiFi when in active use, most likely because the 3G signal needs to be stronger (has to go further), but WiFi uses a lot more power than 3G when idle. Even with push email enabled, the connection will be idle almost all the time (if it weren't, you'd blow your 200MB in minutes, not days).
I'd suggest either disabling auto-sync or disabling cellular data if you're on such an incredibly limited data plan.
U are better off turning off the wifi,
Because the phone when in sleep mode and push update enabled does not use wifi to check for updates. The wifi is sleeping all the time unless on charger.
This is a design flaw .
I suggested that timed toggles should be implemented,
WIFI uses ALOT less battery then 3g. I know this because I now have managed to keep wifi alive when in sleep. If I keep spotify running in the background, that will keep the wifi running. Now the battery for my HTC Titan is at 60% after a full days use, in stead of 5% with 3g in sleep.
So if you want wifi alive, download spotify, start it, press start button, and use your phone as normal. When you make it go sleep, wifi will stay on.
Moved to WP7 Q&A
This is a question not development, Please post in correct sections.
Take it easy

Does anyone have any idea how Spotify does it? I have a developer unlocked phone, so I wonder if I can replicate it in code without having to run Spotify.

Atrix 2 known wifi problems?

I have an Atrix 2. It has been replaced twice by AT&T due to this problem. I have factory reset each phone and tried every battery mode, data saver, sleep policy and wifi channel.
The problem:
The wifi turns off by itself! not sleep, off! As in the checked box is unchecked. The phone does it during use and when not being used. The timing between instances is random. The wifi sometimes stays on for hours. Other times it wont last five minutes. I have 4 other wifi devices connected by wifi to my secured router.
Note: I travel across the country for work and the problem occurs at airports, hotels, mcdonalds, ect.
I have called Motorola and their only option is to send it to the with no replacement. I could use some help. I have been searching online and others with this problem dont persist, they simply state that unsecuring their router fixed the problem. That is not an option for me as the routers are not mine.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Hi, I recently noticed this problem started after I installed the ATT Smart Wi-FI app. Mine will connect then turn off, wait a second turn back on then I get the WIFI networks avail message and I check it and it's not connecting to the network til I tell it too then it will stay connected all day.
I"ve had my atrix 2 for about a little over a month. It's doing the same thing. Wifi will randomly shut off. I have to go into the settings to turn it back on. It will work fine for a little while then just shuts off again. Does anyone know if this seems to be hardware or software related. I've tried different apps and WiFi sleep settings to no avail. I really like the atrix but this is kind of annoying.
I have the same issue also, except I have top reboot my phone for wifi to work again.

i have the same problem, it's not my wifi connection, but the actual wifi setting turns off whenever i turn off my screen and yes, i've set the wifi sleep policy to "never", so that's not the problem. i've also tried "never when plugged in" and "when screen turns off" and i still get the same problem. i was thinking about going to at&t and asking them about it but decided to come here first.
(a white iphone 4 is looking better and better ) can anyone help?
I had this problem but after I disabled the power saver option under battery and data (set it back to performance) it went away and Wi-Fi works perfect.
Tried different battery saver settings as well, nothing changed.
