Can't flash? - Verizon Droid Charge

Every time I try to flash stock ED1 in odin it crashes half way through >.< any ideas?

Got it to run all the way through by leaving the battery in never mind.

Edit: reposting...
So, I had the same problem...found some fixes on here. The ones I remember are:
A: try a different USB port
B: charge the phone a bit before you attempt Odin
C: put the battery back into the phone once Odin has recognized it.
I went overkill when I was trying and did all three at once, but it worked!
Also, none of these ideas are mine, I read them in other posts, so thanks to those people who initially posted, even though I forgot who they are.

lol thanks I saw your post right when I replied to mine. Honestly you could have kept it in case someone else had the issue and the battery isn't fixing it for them.

bricked epic, please help :(

ok so its really only half bricked. it started after i flashed the 1.6ghz ROM...my data wouldnt kick in. a clean wipe and flash, i opened the market to begin my restore of apps and contacts, and when i tried to sign into google, it said "cant establish a reliable data connection" okokok dont panic, i wiped dalvik, and rebooted to no avail i turned 3g on and then off, no go. i tried signing in, and then opening the browser to kick the 3g into drive, and still no joy. i noticed that the upload arrow was the only one being colored in. i called sprint, and they had me do a master reset and STILL nothing. so in a last desperate attempt, i am trying to ODIN and it keeps getting stuck on factoryfs. i googled it and found a few threads involving it, but no real solutions (i rebooted and changed ports before even googling it)
im sorry if this is uninformative ive been working on it for 2 hours and my brain is numb so please if you have any ideas i beg you to share cause im starting to get worried
obliged

hi there i tried this and it didnt work, still stuck on factoryfs
im gunna take that as a hint it might be a bad download of the tar/pit? imma redownload and see what happens
Try a full redownload of the tar. Make sure it's about 255MB or so.
Restart your PC, the phone and Odin. Put the phone into download mode, start Odin, and only THEN plug it into the PC.
I heard that sometimes removing your sdcard before odin may work.. may not do **** but worth a shot. I've had good luck with odin personally.

Okay, I had this happen to me last nite.....Depending on where you got your instructions from you might be putting the TAR file in the wrong section. Please make sure that you are putting that TAR file in the PDA box and not PHONE....I am assuming that around 35% or so it'll just stay at Factoryfs.rfs...Correct? This is probably why so check that out and also make sure that the only two boxes checked on the left are "auto-reboot and debug en"...you should be good to go.
Odin is a very technically retarded program, as it gives limited output as well as ridiculous requirements to get it working correctly. I have had it work flawlessly sometimes and not at all others, so keep at it and eventually it will work, just try every possible combination of settings you can think of and restart the phone/computer multiple times if things still seem to lock up. Hope you get it fixed, I've been there and it sucks!
Sent from my Xtremely Syndicated and Emotionless Epic 4G
I used Odin this morning with no issue at all. I battery pulled, and pulled out my sd and left it out until i got my phone back to factory settings. Also restarted my PC before trying running odin. Worked great for me hopefully will do the same for you.
You know I had this SAME EXACT problem! So im sure you wanna know what was up, well, try going to menu, sdcard: see if the sdcard is greyed out in unmount, and format. If so, re-insert your sdcard.. Hope that helps
Oh BTW, if all your trying to do if go back to stock, all you need is the "MD5 tar file for DI18". Put that file in the PDA section, and over to the left there should be 2 boxes checked, 1 should be "reboot" and the ONLY other 1 should be checked is the "Debug" box! MAKE SURE that no other box is checked. Another thing, you can obtain the "DI18" MD5 tar file from the sticky wicky page....
Ok, check this out. I had the exact same issue. My phone freaked! Lemme ask this, did you phone have problems transferring large files (i.e. roms and such) when you would mount it before? Turns out with me, for whatever reason and I'm assuming software. It was an issue with my computer that screwed me. At least try this, get your laptop or any computer that you haven't used to mod or connect your epic to. Download the Samsung USB drivers to it and odin. I found that Odin3 v1.3 works the best. Here is the zip which has everything you'll need for odin h**p://rapidshare.com/files/429741564/Odin.zip . However you'll have to get the samsung drivers on your own. As soon as I used a computer that I had not used to previously mod my epic before, it worked flawlessly. Just get the phone into download mode. Wait til odin is on and then connect it. Only check debug. You should not need the pit file with this, only move the md5 file into pda. That was all I needed. I hope this helps.
Sounds like you've tried alot of the "standard" fixes. The only thing I don't see mentioned is the usb cable that you used. I've seen numerous posts where a cheap 3rd party cable would cause hangs during the ODIN transfers. Are you using the cable that came with the phone? If so, do you have another good quality cable to try?
Good Luck!
oh wow...all the responses! you guys have been amazingly helpful, ill be forever greatful.
good news! odin decided to work this morning, it was definatly a bad download (the .tar was like 5kb lol) and i got my phone up and running
bad news! still no data. i dont understand how an odin couldnt fix any possible software issues....is sprints 3g down, or is my radio shot??
i can still make calls and texts and receive them, but for the life of me cant sync my contacts and i have about a billion ppl calling my today (my day off )

I had that problem once, I think is was some stupid fix. I did a couple things.
1. I called sprint and they did a re-activation-- I dont recall that working right off
2. In the browser it asks for your phone number the first time
Http://vision.sprintpcs.com
Then it seemed to work.
After that I have had no problems, even after flashing new roms.
Strange huh.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833608&page=2
I'm assuming I was affected by the network down-age too. But...
You guys are amazing! Really rose up to help me out, I can't believe how great it is to know if someones got a problem, ya'll help. Double thanks to the guy who PM'D me. I'm sure you guys will be glad to know I did indeed get ODIN to work, and my data eventuall came back (almost seems faster, too!). So...idk...group hug! Or something
Would it be wrong to hijack and ask some questions before this gets moved(feel free anytime, mods, and again, my apologies for that) ill just go ahead hehe
I'm looking for an aosp theme. I'm running baked snack, and its performing beautifully, but I don't like the water mark nor the general theme at all. I looked thru all 10 pages to no avail. Any suggestions? If there isn't, that'll be my contribution (meaning ill make one)
Blue led. It seems retarded its only used when the battery is full. Id prefer to have it in reverse...blue for notifications, and blue until its fully charged. Is this possible?
Four buttons in the notipanel. If they were customisable or something, or you could scroll and there was more, id like it...but it seems other han wifi, they chose the 4 shortcuts I use the least. Are these changeable or removable?
I asked this on a while back...about swapping the camera and power button. I find that when its changed in the .kl that when I turn the screen off it turns right back on...and if its off for a while, it lags when being turned on. Has anyone else tried this and suceeded? What was your method?
Thanks again guys!
My turn! Odin not working.
Edit: Never mind. johnyardavid's download of the newer Odin fixed it for me. Thanks so much!

Question, hoping to fix..

Ok, I've been having this problem, ever since I first wiped my batt stats. I've never had this problem with any other phone, and I've had a few, evo, G2, mytouch and so on... well, the phone wont sleep when its plugged in, it sleeps like normal unplugged.... dunno what the heck it is... ive flashed every rom just about, and every one has yet to fix it. I've searched... asked... and nothing....
also, I wipe everything on any new rom, i've redone wiping the batt stats. ive used the app. and No, stay awake is unchecked in settings. Could it just be the phone?

Are you restoring any system data after flash?
No, I did not have this problem when it was stock. But im pretty sure i didnt have the problem after i rooted, only untill i wiped the batt stats. I didnt go through the whole process, normaly you charge to 100% wipe the stats, then drain to 0% and recharge with no hick-ups. Well, i charged it, wiped stats, drained it, then only charged to like 40% before i had to unplug it, then i noticed when i got back home and started charging again it was doing this. And havent fixed it since. Thanks for responding.
And no. I do full wipes and manual app loading , i completely redo the whole rom each time, sometimes ill wipe manualy
format-sys
Format-data
Etc.
Sometimes 3 times.

Well, I've wiped my battery stats, and many others have too, and this problem doesn't happen, so unless you somehow wiped something other than the actual .bin file, I think that may be coincidental. I've never drained my phone to 0%, so I guess my battery calibration attempt wasn't a pure one either, so I don't think that would have anything to do with it.
It sounds like you aren't a rookie when it comes to flashing, so, I personally don't know what else it could be.
Only thing I would possibly do, if I were in your shoes, is try flashing back to stock, if you haven't tried that already. I don't know if that would be any more effective than trying any other alternative roms, like you've been doing, but...
Hopefully somebody else can give you some better ideas...
Well thatnks for thinkin with me anyway, im all out of ideas, i dont see how flashing to stock would fix it, unless something went wrong during bubbys method, i might try re-rooting again, it wouldnt even be a big deal if it didnt take 4 hours to charge rather than 1&1/2hr. Well we will see what happens i guess.... Thanks for tryin though

No problem.
Just remember, you said you didn't have this problem when it was stock. The only way to put your mind at ease, if you're out of ideas, is to get it back to PURE stock, the way it was when it was problem free.
Then, if it still does it, you'll know it's something with the phone itself.

Yes. There's a link to it in the stickied guide in the general section.
Or you can download bubbys simple root program, run it so the program extracts its temporary files, find that temp directory, pull the PD98IMG.zip out of that directory, get it to the root of your SD card, and flash that through hboot. This is not pure, pure stock, because its rooted and all, but I can tell you it behaves identically, aside from being rooted, to how my phone did when it was bone stock.
Though getting the RUU in the stickied guide might be quicker, I've just never used it personally, and I grabbed the stock image via the bubby method above for myself, just in case... Haven't had to use it yet, but its nice to have.
well, I downloaded bubbys one click again, I could not for the life of me fine that pdimg, so i went ahead and re-rooted, still no luck, same thing different day, i dunno what to do, starting to think about calling the warranty center... thanks for all the help though, it was worth a shot.

You have to run it so it will extract it's files, then search for PD98IMG.zip on your computer, it should find it.
Well, if you go the warranty route, just make sure to put it back to stock and s-On, first.

HELP! Bricked Mango update?

So everything was going fine, I used this method and it was about 90% done with the second of the two updates.
Then my dog walks into the room and pulls the cord out from my phone.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry right now, but it just stayed on the update screen (computer and phone with a white arrow, etc.). Pulled the battery and it just started up back to that screen.
Please, any suggestions on how to restore from a backup?
HOLY ****.
So after it restarted and was on the update screen, I replugged it in and found the computer/Zune didn't recognize it. Then right after I posted this thread, the phone reset and what the **** do you know, the update completed!
I am going to go do a happy dance now.
So for anyone else that might have this happen, just plug it back in and hope for the best! I might have been lucky I was so far along in the update, but it's worth a shot.

congrats. I've seen this (or very similar) posted in one of the longer Mango threads. That person reported that the upgrade failed, but when he restarted the phone and connected it to Zune it finished and reported success.
If you run into an issue you can always flash a new ROM
just ran into the same problem (laptop reboot for no reason). Phone looks fine now and shows mango installed. Should I restore and re-start again?

If everything is working fine, don't do anything.
I would suggest restore and redo the update, for one. Especially since you know something went wrong.
You don't want to end up with incomplete software/update and keep in mind that if it works for now it's not a guarantee it will work later.
Your call, however.

Indeed. The device might be "working" fine but something may be unfinished/bugged on the back end, you won't be able to know until it's too late.

Samsung Infuse Bootloop?

A have a link to a video that I would appreciate you to check out. My Samsung Infuse 4g shut off randomly during use and constantly reboots itself. The rest is explained in the video's description.
*i can't link because I'm a new user.. However.. The phone shuts off and pulls up the Samsung screen, i have flashed a custom CM9 ROM onto it, however it ran fine until it just randomly shut off.. I don't know why it did it. But now I can't get it into Download Mode or into it's Clockwork Recovery.. I'm not sure if it is bricked or if there is any way I can fix it.. The video is titled "Samsung Infuse 4g AT&T (Please Help)" it will either be under Brandon Meadors or androiduser360. Please and thank you for help.
Thank you so much for any help you can give.
Hi M8! Yesterday i posted a thread about the very same situation, i have two motherboards with that same issue. My guess i that youre not used to flash cell phones, so my guess is also that it means that you dont have develop good soldering skills. Theres a development made by a guy named Adam Outler in here called Unbrickable Mod. He is very highly skill developer. I have the same issue you have right now with a couple motherboards i have. And im going to apply that mod today to see if i can restore my cell phone back. If it works ill let you know, so that maybe you can find a way to do it. If thats the case, i suggest you to read, read, and keep reading lol... Theres a lot to learn about when we deal with situations like that. Ive never deal with something like that, but ive done UnbrickableMod many times already. So ill let you know
Well you can always use a usb jig if you want it will boot your phone into download mode then flash to stock.
Heres a good link on how to make one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604707
Yeah its a good idea Ty113096, the problem is that the JIG doesnt work either. When you insert the JIG the phone will get to download mode ok, but then a couple seconds later it will reboot and the bootloop goes on and on. Oh! By the way UnbrickableMod didnt solve it! The phone will do pretty much the same when the resurrector is applied. Very strange situation but such is life i guess...

Sudden Death Brick?

Hey all. So I put my phone back to stock, followed all the guides to the ".". I then took the OTA update to 4.3, and now I believe I have the sudden death brick. When i attempt to power on my phone, it just keeps vibrating, and won't actually start. I was wondering if there are any fixes to this or am I SoL? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I can get it into Download mode for all of 2 seconds, and then it appears the phone shuts off.

That unfortunately didn't work. Does the same thing as it did before hand. I did notice that I can get it into download mode for a second or two. Does that help me at all?
By the way, it says recovery booting when it turns on following that guide.

Try to repeat the process, rewrite the image to your sdcard, then try again (usually obtain results after 3-4 trials). Make sure you pull the battery, then insert the sdcard....like the instruction said!

This sound crazy but works for many with power button issue:
"Today my phone kept turning off for no reason. Instead of hitting it on the table, this time i hit it against my washer on the rounded corner so i can precisely hit the power button. I had to do it like 10 times but its back up and running. I think its better to do it this way as the washer is plastic. Just a precaution so you don't break your phone"
Also ThePagel had suggested to some folks on this forum and they said it works!
Give it a try, if not working, maybe you need to hit it a little bit harder..without breaking your phone..
Give it a shot! When it happened to me I put a crappy thumb drive under my mouse pad and made sure only the button area got the impact. Be careful doing this. To light and it won't work, to hard and you might crack your screen. You might need to hit it a few times at "just the right speed" before the power button gets unstuck. Make sure you take your battery out as a safety precaution.

To light and it won't work, to hard and you might crack your screen. You might need to hit it a few times at "just the right speed" before the power button gets unstuck. Make sure you take your battery out as a safety precaution.

So, it just randomly turned it self back on, and I am thinking this may be an issue with software more than anything, because I also noticed on one point in the screen, without me even touching the phone, you will see the blip of something touching it. I am wondering if maybe I didn't properly flash stock back on or something. I also noticed the bootloader software is running on rev 1 and not 3. Is there a way to use Kies or something to just erase all the contents on the phone and reinstall it like new without having to throw it in download mode? I am rather concerned now about turning it off now that it may actually be at a point where I can fix it.
Maybe this is actually just a hardware error. I am really unsure. Either way, ever since I recieved the OTA 4.3, the splash screen says "Custom". At the very least does anyone have any idea how to get rid of that so I can just call up samsung since it's a shade under a year and if it is hardware I can just get a new phone.

The fact that it powered up when you put the battery in tells me its more hardware than software. The only way to reflash 4.3 from here is Odin or Verizon utility. kies might be pushing 4.3 by now (wasn't last time I checked) but anyway you pick it will do a full erase. Even if you could redo the ota it could still hard brick your phone if it restarts in the middle of installing. Are you sure you have the ota and not one of the 4 or 5 4.3 stock roms?

actually had the battery in for a while. Kies does do 4.3 now. (Kies 3). I don't mind if i do a full erase, I have everything backed up in several locations already. I honestly just want to get this working, or something.
* any way you pick will require you to go into download mode including kies.

Kies 3 shouldn't be compatible with our phones. Besides Odin and even the Verizon utility runs much better than kies. it is a system hog with the chance of crashing in the middle of the install.
